Lies. Betrayal. Deceit. Carter knows them all too well. His whole life was based on them. He decided long ago that his life would be on his own terms. No one would dictate his future, since he'd had no control over his past.
Desire. Lust. Love.
Julia is the bosses' daughter. She's everything that Carter wants, and nothing that he thinks he needs. She's got plans of her own, and Carter is one of them.
Both determined to control their own paths, can she show him what his future could be like if he just lets go, or will he send her BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD?
L.L. Collins was born and raised in the eternal summer state of Florida. She lives with her high school sweetheart husband and is driven mad daily by her young adult boys, but her three doodles keep her sane and well loved. LL has been writing since she was old enough to write. Always a story in her head, she made her lifelong dream of becoming an author come true in the self-publishing world. She's the author of contemporary romance novels. Look for more of her emotionally charged novels exclusively on Amazon!
We remember little Carter from the Twisted series. Well, Lianne and Blake’s son is no longer little ;-) He has grown up, yet life has made him skeptical about love and he doesn’t envision himself ever having the type of relationship his parents do.
Julia is his new boss’ daughter and very attracted to Carter. His unwillingness to pursue anything with her just makes her push harder. At times it feels like things will go her way, but then his bullheadedness takes the best of him and things move backwards again.
This is a story of despair and heartbreak, yet laughter and love are also strong components.
I loved seeing the strength that Julia seemed to possess, yet her vulnerable side was very touching. Carter is also a strong character, although his vision of what’s important is a little distorted. Seeing him grow and come to terms with what it is he really wants was extremely satisfying. The way both Carter and Julia used games throughout their relationship to get to know each other was very refreshing and interesting.
True to LL Collins’ fashion, this story is about real characters going through real problems. Their emotions can be felt through the pages and their journey is one we go on with them. They make you love them while at the same time you want to whack them over the head for their stupidity. Collins has a way of bringing her characters to life, touching you in a way that makes you wish you knew them. I fell in love with Julia and Carter.
I say yes to this love story and you should too. LL Collins has put herself in the league with top notch romance authors. This book, oh my! The feels! I couldn't put it down.
There was not a lot of angst but enough intrigue to keep you rooting for these two. Julia and Carter learned how to love from each other. They put each other first and set a model for building a lasting love.
As a reader I knew these 2 were meant to be. The author foreshadowed the relationship by giving us their inner thoughts and struggles. The family connection was endearing and I love revisiting his parents relationship.
If you desire a true romance novel that will touch you as the characters develop a lasting relationship then this book is for you. I highly recommend this book and consider it to be in my top 5 books I've read this year.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have yet to find a L.L Collins book I do not love and cry in. Each book is emotional and character driven. Each character is beautiful and flawed but always has a good spirit and heart.
This starts with Carter having a heartbreaking shattering experience. You see this totally sweet guy who loves his family have his world come apart. He has to work hard to get back again. But this affects him. He no longer believes in love but becomes more goal oriented.
We fast forward a few years and Carter meets Julia at his interview and is just head over heals. He doesn’t think so but he is. Problem is she is the bosses daughter and he ends up working for her as a intern.
The chemistry though is explosive between them. These are two genuine people. They love family except Julia believes in love and having a family. Carter not so much. The story of his mom and dad though Princess Bride epic. Watching these two work together and interact while trying to keep a professional decorum and not act on the feelings is so much fun. They are really struggling. Each has that best friend telling them how to deal. Carter’s trying to get him to open up to the chance and Julia’s trying to caution her.Julia doesn’t try as hard as Carter to fight though.
Carter is warring with himself and sends so many seesaw signals. This does hurt Julia and he doesn’t want that. Finally he gives in and wow. Just wow. They are sizzling and sweet. They open up to each other and support each other fiercely. Carter is so understanding about Julia’s brother who is such a softy underneath the bad boy exterior. His love for his sister knows no bounds. It is this bond that creates a bump in Carter and Julia’s relationship. At first carter is a doof and doesn’t do what he should. Than he goes nutz and his family and him try to rectify the situation. Finally he stands up for her to her parents and it is tear jerking. He admits his love and everything. So kleenex ladies.
These two are just amazing. The book itself flows wonderfully and never falters. The emotions role off the pages and keeps you in the moment. The story of two people one hurt by his past and one trying to be what her parents need while still staying true to herself and still love and be there for her brother finding one another and being the spark that is needed for them to change is incredible.
You can’t get two more suited characters. They complement each other. They are kind and fierce. Loyal and stubborn. Both family oriented in different ways and both have strong moral compasses. It takes Carter longer to come to terms with being in love and realizing that she comes above all else. Julia helps alot by calling him out when he is a doof. Carter helps Julia by showing her love unconditional love. Pure and beautiful love and understanding. He supports her and encourages her. Their friends are amazing. They give advice without judging.
A beautiful emotional journey of two people finding their way through past pain and family to be together and show each other love and support no matter what the circumstances. I do though want to see about her brother and see him get tangled in love especially after he says love is a prison.

~ 4 Stars ~
Back to the Drawing Board was an enjoyable read. It had what a good romance novel should have. There was laughter, angst, sexy times, and of course love. This book didn't have a whole lot of drama and what there was of it was short lived. I really liked that, because it focused on Julia and Carter.
This book is kind of considered a third in a series, but I would also say it is a standalone. I didn't read the two prior books and I didn't feel lost at all. This is more of a spin off if anything. This book was about Blake and Liane's Son Carter. Even though I didn't read the other books about Blake and Liane, I still got the full jist of their story and how it plays into Carter's story.
I will say that this book started out different than I expected. The prologue sucked me in and is not what I was expecting. (Totally is a good way) We get most of Carter's backstory in the prologue and it sets up the rest of the book as to where Carter's head is emotionally. This story is told in Dual POV, which I love. I felt this was a complete story also. I didn't end this book with the thought of I wonder how the characters end up down the road. LL Collins does a fantastic job giving us Carter and Julia's full story.
If you are a fan of angst then I would definitely recommend this book to you to read. The push and pull that Julia and Carter go through in the beginning was a lot. I understood why Carter was pushing Julia away….it was almost a taboo type story, being that Julia was his boss, and he didn't want to jeopardize his career. One thing I truly loved was that Julia was the aggressor in this book. Usually we see the Hero being the one to pursue the heroine, but not in this one Julia went after what she wanted (Carter) and wouldn't take no for an answer. I really liked that!! Now at times I felt Julia was a strong lead, but then there were times I wanted to smack her and tell her to grow up. I would've liked to see that strong female lead all the way through the book.
What I truly enjoy about LL Collins's books, is that she creates real stories and real characters. Her stories are stories that could happen in real life and we get the feelings and reactions of characters as they would handle things in reality. She is able to tell the story so that the reader is able to connect with the characters and feel what they are feeling.
I will warn you though that this story is kind of the insta-love/lust type story. Right from the get go, Julia and Carter are attracted to each other, but their feelings grew for each other fairly quickly. So if you aren't a big fan of that type storyline, then this might not be the book for you. For me I really liked it and felt it worked well for these characters. This story really shows you how even the best laid plans can be changed when you meet the right person!!!
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is the third book in a series, but I do think you could read it without having read the others. That being said, I will say DON’T read it without reading the others because you will be doing yourself a disservice. The first two books in the series are about Blake and Liane. This one is about their son, Carter. L. L. Collins has this knack of pulling readers in with realistic characters and situations. These are real people with real problems. They are human and make mistakes. But, they love with all they have. While I read on of her books I feel every thought and every emotion through actions and words. You will be blessed with reading this book. The prologue explains Carter’s past. If you read the other Twisted books then you will know what poor Carter has gone through. His past has shaped him. Let me rephrase that, what his “dad” did in his past shaped him. And, I’m not talking about Blake. That would be the evil Ronan from the first two books. Carter is a character who changes throughout the book. His parents, Julia, and even Julia’s family changes who Carter thinks he is. Carter has just graduated and covets an internship in Denver. The first day there he meets the boss’ daughter, Julia. Whoo!! Hoo!! But, being who he is he fights every emotion. I. Like. Julia. She is blunt with Carter making her exactly what he needs. I’m not sure which Carter I like the best. Jealous Carter? Sexy Carter? Loving Carter? Mad Carter? Scared Carter? He has so many facets. I loved the games that these two played while getting to know each other. One of my favorite scenes was when Carter was chatting with a little boy named Garrett. That was precious. I love the way that L. L. Collins incorporates music within her books. There is always a playlist at the end to go along with the book. My favorite quote from the book would be: “Because love not only shows up, it stands up. This is me, standing up for you.” I am honored to have read such a great story. I love Carter, Julia, and Carter’s family. And, I must say that L. L. Collins made me even begin to like Julia’s family at the end. I can’t say enough about this book. I promise that you will enjoy every second. If you have never read anything by this author before, then you have found a new favorite. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed the 2 main characters in this book! They were both strong in the exact way the other needed, making them a perfect fit. The secondary characters were great as well, and I would enjoy reading more about several of them! I didn't know this book was part of a series until I saw some reviews about it. It can easily be read as a stand alone, but I plan to go back and read the first 2 books in the series since I likes this one so much! I did have a few questions about Carter and Ronan, but nothing that interfered with my reading pleasure. I look forward to learning more about what happened with the 2 of them in the past when I read the previous books. I highly recommend this book!
The love story of Blake and Liane was epic in the Twisted Series. It is taken to a whole new level when we get to know Carter, their son. The man he becomes surpasses all obstacles in his way. He chases his dream. So driven by the goal to land the job. What he finds...his own epic love in Julia. Something he thought impossible and something he never knew he wanted. This book was so emotional for me as are most books written by the Master of emotion herself...Author L L Collins. The most powerful message being...love does so much more than show up, it stands up and gives completely of itself at all costs!
L.L. Collins has done it again! Back to the Drawing Board is a gripping, compelling, and amazing book that I was unable to put down!
In Back to the Drawing Board we meet Carter (well you've met him if you've read the Twisted Series) as he's about to interview for his dream job. When Julia is asked to sit in on Carter's interview by her father, the world seems to stop for Carter and he is drawn to this beautiful woman that could potentially be his boss. After the interview when Carter decides to get some food and a few drinks before his flight leaves the next morning, he never expected to run into Julia. When they share a night that neither one of them can remember things definitely get awkward between the two of them.
When Carter is back in Denver, he has one thing on his mind, to succeed at this job and to come on to the company full time instead of just an intern, the problem is, Julia is his boss, and the chemistry and sexual tension between them is too hot to deny. At times Carter was kind of a jerk, but I loved this about him, he has a troubled past and doesn't believe in love, so the only thing he cares about is doing well at his work. Julia changes Carter's idea of what life should be like and she pushes him. I loved seeing Julia being the aggressor in this book and not backing down with what she wanted.
I become emotionally invested in Carter and Julia's story. Both of them have things in their past holding them back and both of them want each other but aren't sure how to handle it. I loved the games that the two of them would play to get to know one another better, and how they never really finished their games, but the games definitely helped each other understand one another better and allowed them to open up more than I think they would have without them.
Julia is a strong character, but she's not doing something she's passionate about, and that hurt my heart for her with what she's dealt with throughout the years. Getting to know her back story, as well as other people's in her life was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
When things come to a head, I felt horrible for Carter and for Julia. It took something huge for these two to finally say how they felt about one another, and even if it wasn't under the perfect circumstances, seeing them together was beautiful. They definitely have some bumps on their road to happiness, but their characters balance each other. Julia helps Carter see that there's more to life then work and that it is ok to have feelings, and Carter helps Julia follow her dreams and to stick up to the people who have all but abandoned her for decisions she's made.
This is a beautiful story and I couldn't help but fall in love with Carter. He may not be perfect, but I think that is what makes him perfect. Julia is the kind of character that you wish existed in real life, because she would be an amazing person to hang out with as well!
This story is a stand alone, but if you plan on reading the Twisted Series, I highly recommend reading that prior to Back to the Drawing Board as it does contain some spoilers. This is a beautiful story and the ending was amazing! I loved how L.L. Collins told Carter and Julia's story, it was just perfect!
I truly can't say enough about this book!! I love everything that LL Collins writes & this one hits a home run!
We meet Carter in the Twisted series but you don't have to read them to understand this book! However, if you want to know his parents story, I would highly recommend it! He's all grown up & hot as hell! Carter is perfectly content with his new internship & has no plans for love! Julia is forbidden because he's the bosses daughter but how do they fight the obvious attraction?
This book is so full of twist & turns!! I love the passion & love Julia has for her troubled brother, Johnny! It shows everyone's true colors when dealing with that situation! I was so proud of Julia & Carter for standing up for what was right & what they believed in!
I loved seeing Blake & Liane again!! I just adore those two so much!
This book has all the feels! It wasn't an ugly cry like most of LL Collins' books are but I did have a few tears! I loved how I felt every emotion with this one! It's a little bit of everything wrapped up in a nice, neat package!!
Carter and Julia <3..Another hit from LL Collins :)
I have been a fan of L.L. Collins for a while now.I have read all her books and loved them all. Back to the Drawing Board is another fave! I am so glad we got Carter's story. Even though this is a standalone, I personally would read the Twisted series where we are introduced to him. Carter just wants to start over since 5 years ago was the worse time of his life. He's in Denver applying for an internship at an architect firm and comes face to face with Julia, who is the owner's daughter.
From the beginning, I was hooked. Carter and Julia had undeniable chemistry. The both of them have issues which we learn throughout the story and you can't help but get invested in them. Carter was all about work and never expected to fall for her. They don't realize it yet, but they were both what each other needed.
Julia has dealt with alot and I felt so bad for her. I will say that Johnny had my heart. When you meet him, you will know why. They go through their ups and downs and it was great seeing Blake and Liane again. (They are from the Twisted series).
You will love this story. Its about finding love when you least expect it, forgiveness, and family. The Epilogue was just what was needed to complete their story!..AMAZING!! You can't go wrong with that! Highly Recommended :)
Okay, it was a YA novel. I wish I 'd known that before I bought the book. But that's okay. The author worked hard to write the story and there is room for everyone at the writer's desk. My principle disappointment was the construction of the story. The author lost focus on the story line of two people falling in love. The prologue was a mistake. Throwing in Carter's other dad issue left me confused and did not advance the story. Julia's character was especially shallow in the first chapters. There was no backstory to her character that would explain why she got drunk when she met Carter, fell into his bed and went into instant lust. It took us twelve chapters before she satisfied her problem. Another problem I had was the story construction of the POV between Carter and Julia. The author used separate chapters for each POV. It was tiresome. Let's see, I finished Carter's POV. Now it's Julia's turn with a new chapter. There are techniques that allow separate POV within one chapter. I wondered if the end of the book would ever arrive. We have to solve everyone's problem. Couldn't we have had one unresolved issue. The book is written for a YA audience. I'm sure they will enjoy the story and want more. My shelf is full of books. Think I'll try something else. Nuff said.
The story has laughs, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.
This is Julia and Carter’s story. Carter has been deceived by one of the people closest to him. Now he is living life as he wants. He is hoping to get his dream job. The only thing that will stand in his way is Julia the boss’s daughter. Can they stay away from each other? Will Julia and Carter be willing to try and work on a relationship? Will he be able to put his trust in her? Will his stubbornness and trust issues be the thing that keeps them apart? Is Julia willing to fight all the walls Carter has up in order to have him in the end? When secrets are revealed will they both come out of the aftermath alone? Or will they fight to stay together?
I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
I really enjoyed "Twisted Souls" and "Twisted Paths" so was excited to read Carter's story. Unfortunately I didn't care for it. I think my biggest problem with this book was Julia. Her father is the man who owns the architect firm Carter is dying to work at and she is Carter's boss. Carter is attracted to her but doesn't want to jeopardize his chance at his dream job so doesn't act on his feelings. Julia has no qualms about constantly throwing herself at Carter, even after he tells her no. There were several instances when she manipulated Carter into doing what she wanted, just to have time alone with him to make another move on him. When she felt like he might be responding, she acted like a 12 year-old girl and came across as needy and pathetic. If Julia had been a stronger character I would have enjoyed this story but as it is, she ruined it for me.
A story of two people finding their first love. A powerful book written with lots of emotion. Carter has vowed to never fall in love but with one look at Julia all bets are off. He thinks that his dream job is what he wants but when Julia pursues him and doesn't back off, can Carter follow his dream or does he follow his heart? There are some twists and turns that factor in this quest of love. Are they strong enough to fight for each other? A book packed with everything a romance lover needs. Highly recommended. My favorite book of 2015!!
"Because love, not only shows up, it stand up. This is me, standing up for you." LL Collins Back to the Drawing Board Release date 8/10/15
**I was lucky enough to be a beta reader and also given this arc by the author in exchange for an honest review**
Wow, what can I say, LL Collins has done it again. I am always amazed at her talented, not only does she tell a good story but it is very well written. Love these two strong characters especially Julia, a women who knows what she wants and goes after it. Carter thinks he knows what he wants but after meeting Julia he not so sure if his dream job is still the most important thing to him. I really enjoyed the dual POV. This can be read as a stand alone but you are missing out on some really good books if you skip the first two. Typical LL Collins style, she hooks me right from the start and I can't put the book down. Will love win or are some dreams to big to give up, be sure to read this book and find out.
#ARC I finished Back to the Drawing Board last night at 3 am. A-amazing. This is Author L L Collins' best book yet! Everything to love about the LA series and the Twisted series has been rolled up and concentrated in this book. I couldn't put it down. I tried to ration myself and make it last, since i knew it would be over way to soon, but I got swept up in the story of Julia and Carter. Deep lovable chatacters, a gripping heart ripping emotional page-turning story, plus phone/tablet melting passion, all combine to guarantee a marathon read to the wee hours of the morning. #tbr #fivestars
Love at first sight never did run smoothly but boy can it be exciting, wonderful and passionate. This is certainly true for Carter and Julia. I love both of these two characters and this love grows throughout the book. When Carter stands up to his bosses I practically swooned. We also see his cute and adorable side when he is with his younger siblings and the little boy from Colorado Cares! Julia is strong but grows in strength with Carter's support. I did think the book moved ahead quickly in some places but that is probably just me. Another wonderful book by a great author!!
The story of Carter and Julia is amazing. It's heartbreaking at times, frustrating, funny, and loving. It is very realistic and well written and the character development is very well done. Carter and Julia have to go against a lot of odds including family, their own demons and many other obstacles to see if they'll be able to find love with one another. Loved this book and highly recommend it. LL Collins continues to grow and impress with every book she writes!
Holy Smokes you do not want to miss this. I was gifted this Arc in exchange for a review. Ll Collins has always been one of my favorite authors and this book was just as awesome as the rest. Carter will steal your heart and so will Julia. this is an amazing love story. I loved all of their little games!! especially the hot ones! girls get ready to fall in love with the blue eyed bombshell!!
She's his boss, he doesn't want to mess up his dream internship. Carter doesn't think he can ever have the love his parents have, Julia wants to show him that he can.
Love love love L L Collins!!! This book is so good! The feels this books brings on! Carter and Julia are so much fun. I love that this book is based in Denver :)
This was a new author for me and I was not disappointed. Carter and Julia were great characters and I'm glad that Carter realized that love was worth fighting for
Finally!!! I been waiting for Carter's story. Even since the truth about parents came out, I been dying to get into his head. I couldn't imagine being Carter and getting that life changing news after the serious accident he had. I was hoping and praying it didn't make him go down a dark and twisty road. L.L.Collins really did an excellent job with Carter's story. Julia was the perfect match for Carter.
We meet Carter in the Twisted Series. He's the son of Liane and Ronan oops I mean Blake.. Yes, this considered a standalone. But, the Twisted series gives you Carter's parents story from their childhood. This book picks up 5yrs since we last saw Carter and his parents.
Carter has now graduated college and headed to Denver to interview for the internship he's been dreaming about for the longest time now. He won't let anything or anyone get in the way. Carter has had a hard few years. He had his life all planned out. Or at least he thought so. When he found out that everything he thought was real was in fact a lie. Carter was in shock.
Julia knew Carter was special before she even met him. Her father has never asked her to sit in on an interview. Once she walks in and sees Carter her breathe is taken away. Then, listening to him speak she knows he's perfect and really hopes her dad will give him the internship.
That night they both end up at the same bar. Both running away from things. They end up running into each other. Both end up having too much to drink and don't remember what happened. They do know there's definite attraction and chemistry. And, both hoping Carter gets the internship so they can be together again.
Carter was ecstatic when he got the internship. He couldn't get Julia out of his head. But, he grew up with Ronan and his words kept repeating in his mind. Carter kept reminding himself this internship could turn into his dream job. He can't let anything get in the way.
Carter and Julia work great together. For Carter just starting out he's great at it. He has definitely done his homework. Julia and Carter try and fight this thing this pull between them. But, it's too strong. Or I should say Julia is strong. She knows what she wants and she wants Carter.
Julia is not afraid to call Carter out on his BS. Carter isn't the only one with a messed up family history. Julia is stuck between a rock and a hard place. While she loves her job. It's not her passion. Julia is so used to having to do what is right or whatever her parents wanted. That she has never spoken up for herself. Julia has secrets of her own. Ones she has only told Carter.
Carter grew up a lot in this book. Carter grew up thinking one thing his whole life. Ronan drilled it into his head about having a career first. Then, Blake came in and showed him something else. Love. Unconditional love. Even though Blake had been through a lot. He has a successful business. But, none of that matters or compares to his love for his wife and children. Carter went back and forth from hearing Ronan's words and then Blake's. In the end he did what he knew in his heart was right.
Carter and Julia were perfect for each other. Both were very family and career orientated. They do what they think it's right and not by what they're told to do. They had come up with the craziest ways to get to know each other a more. These two were seriously hot, seriously caring and hysterical. This story started with them going down one road. But, as they grew things changed. They're roads changed paths and started going down another road. Except this time they weren't alone. They had found other people willing to accept them for who they were.
L.L. Collins has a way with telling her stories. She brings you characters that you can relate too. They are characters I can see myself in or can say yup that person can so be my friend lol. Only she can do that. When my friends ask me for a go to author of mine. L.L. Collins is always in my top 5. Even though this is considered a standalone. I feel like it completed Blake and Liane's story. Because, when the Twisted series ended it didn't feel like it was complete. My mind kept saying I needed Carter.
I love how she explained exactly how Carter felt with the betrayal. And, how he moved on and embraced his new life. Even though she didn't make it easy on Carter. She did it perfectly. I'm glad it was her writing these characters and not somebody else. I will totally continue stalking her. Oops! I mean following her.
This was one of the most anticipated releases of LL Collins that I was most looking forward to reading. I went into the book with a mind set that Carter was just going to be this womanizer who didn't care about anything. This is a standalone novel but I would recommend reading the Twisted Series so you can introduced to Carter so that this book would make more sense.
Man oh man was I wrong. Carter is out of college and is interning at one of the biggest architecture firms known. He doesn't do relationships because it's not for him... until he meets Julia, the bosses daughter. He feels this connection to her but doesn't act on it well because his main focus is his job. You get to see a lot of sides to him and I love that. His sweet and caring side, his not so nice attitude, protective, and his fierce and loving (HOT) side. I can't decide which I love more!
Julia is a strong heroine. I love her don't stop until you get what you want attitude. She wants Carter and boy does she go after him. How far are you willing to go for the man you want?
You have to read this immediately. No major angst but you have two people who are different but the same i some aspect. They form a friendship and bond while at the same time learning about themselves. This story is amazing and I can't get enough!
Merged review:
Perfect in every way!

Back to the Drawing Board is a fun, flirty, standalone novel that will have you experiencing all the feels. Carter and Julia have something truly special and I enjoyed all of the ups and downs of their journey. One of the great things about this novel was that while it is definitely not necessary to read the Twisted Series before jumping into Carter’s story, for anyone who has read them there is a sense of coming home with Back to the Drawing Board. I got a deep satisfaction out of seeing Carter with his family and experiencing how their story effected his own. Julia and Carter’s story was the total package, making me laugh, keeping me guessing, and connecting me with the characters in unexpected ways.
Carter was a great character and right from the start I found myself invested in his growth. Carter struggles to reconcile the life he had growing up with the life he wants and L.L. Collins did a great job at allowing Carter to develop slowly and naturally, peeling back the various layers of his complex personality to expose his conflicting emotions. Underneath the confident, intelligent, and professional mask lies a genuine vulnerability that had him stealing my heart in no time. He certainly met his match in Julia and I absolutely loved her. Her own struggle to define life on her own terms allowed for some significant character development. L.L. Collins challenged and pushed Julia, while allowing her inner strength to shine through. The more time she spent fighting for Carter, the bolder she became in the rest of her life, resulting in a newfound confidence that was utterly captivating.
Back to the Drawing Board had a great storyline, balancing angst and emotion with humor and steam. Both Carter and Julia face personal journeys where they must decide what they want out of life and what kind of person they strive to be. L.L. Collins juxtaposes their individual stories, exposing the challenges they face as a couple. The differences in their journeys kept things interesting, while the similarities stirred up some intense emotional moments. The relationship that developed between these two felt genuine and the chemistry between Carter and Julia was undeniable. From the moment they met there was an energy between them that made this story vibrate with lust and love. Back to the Drawing Board is an addictive standalone novel that will make you feel and wish for more.
I've been a fan of L.L. Collins since she brought Dr. Ben and then Devin into my world. So I knew, without reading the synopsis, that this book was going to be something I couldn't put down and I was right. Back to the Drawing Board pulled me right in. The story line was original and well thought out. That prologue both gripped and gutted me. I wasn't expecting things to start off that way but it truly was the catalyst for everything else that happened in the book.
I liked Carter, a lot. He was a man on a mission, to land the job he always wanted. All the pieces were in place until the daughter of the man who has the ability to make or break his career walks in. Julia stunned him stupid and I loved it AND Julia. That woman was brilliantly talented and loyal to who and what she cared about. Especially her family and friends. I enjoyed her pursuit of Carter. She knew when to push and when to back off with her advances. Her games were fun and just the thing Carter needed to pull him out of his shell. As much as he tried to fight it, he couldn't deny how baldy he wanted Julia. When they finally gave in it was well worth the wait. Together Carter and Julia were the best versions of themselves; happy, light, carefree, stronger more passionate...But when a secret is revealed things really spiral out of control. Tough decisions have to be made, and made they were.
I enjoyed the change this book took towards the end. Carter's true colors really came out and when he had his big moment with Julia's parents I wanted to give him a fist bump. I think this quote sums up the progression of Julia and Carter's relationship perfectly
"Because love not only shows up, it stands up. This is me, standing up for you."
Can you say swoon? L.L Collins gave me all the things I've come to know and love from her. There was laughter, a few twists and some steam all wrapped up in a sweet love story. And a great cast of secondary characters. A few of my favorites were Colby, Tracey, and Johnny. I can't leave out Carter's parents, Blake and Liane, either (you may remember them from Collins' Twisted series- but you don't have to read that one to follow this book). I loved the relationship Carter had with both of his parents and his siblings. Everyone played a big role somewhere along the way in the development of Carter and Julia's relationship. I am really hoping for more from this crew- a story for Johnny- please, he needs some happy!
Back to the Drawing Board is a side book to the Twisted Series, but this book can be read as a standalone. We meet Carter in the Twisted books first.
I gave this book 5 "Let's play a game" Stars.
Carter has been through so much in his young life. Too much for a young man to go through, but he survived and although he has many scars that he carries around, he is a better and stronger person because of all of it. Julia is someone who has been tested in so many ways, ways she feels she has failed, but she is strong, beautiful and capable of so much more then she thinks she is. When these two meet the sparks fly, but they both have so much to go through alone to even think about being together. But that doesn't stop either of them from wanting more and thinking that this could be something that is perfect. Through all the ups and downs, ins and outs Carter and Julia are tested and shown that sometimes love is not just about loving a person. It is about living each day with them, easy or hard, and giving all that they have to each other. About building a life together that is stronger then steel.
This is a beautiful story about finding love when you're not really looking for love. About trusting someone with your heart when you feel like there isn't anyone left to trust. Fusing a bond that is unbreakable. Carter is such a beautiful bright shining star. I really hoped that I liked Julia because not anyone could be with Carter and make me happy. But LL did it! She blew it out of the park. I loved Julia so much.
Don't miss this story. It is a must read! I love LL's work and look forward to reading more of her work! I am a fan for life and will read anything and everything that she writes! Thank you LL for such amazing stories told from your heart! My life would be a little darker without them in it. <3
This book was quite the pleasant surprise. I hadn't read anything by this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Back to the Drawing Board was a great book about finding yourself, learning to stand up for who you are and what is right, and also to fight for the things you believe in. Carter has had a tough couple of years and isn't dealing with it very well. When he gets an internship at one of the best architecture firms in the country he is beyond excited and ready to start this new journey. One thing he wasn't expecting was the daughter of the firms owners, Julia. They have an instant connection and when Carter wakes up, naked, in bed with her the next morning with no memory of what happened, he freaks out.
Carter wants this internship more than anything he's ever wanted and he doesn't want a woman to come in the way of that. Julia is such a sweet young woman, I don't think there is anyway for someone not to like her when reading this book. She has always been the dutiful daughter and is set to take over the firm from her parents. Julia's true passion is interior design though but she doesn't dare say anything to her parents because she knows they wouldn't hear of her doing anything else. Julia knows there is something special about Carter and that they are perfect for each other. She pushes Carter out of his comfort zone and makes him realize that what they have could be amazing. Pretty soon they become official but hide it from everyone but a couple of their close friends because Carter doesn't want to lose his internship.
When Julia comes to blows with her parents, Carter realizes family and especially Julia are more important than a job. I enjoyed watching these two grow not just as a couple but as individuals. They really are two great people and when they're together, they make each other even better. This is definitely an amazing love story as well as a coming to age story, I recommend picking this one up! I know you'll love it as much as I did.
Okay, I first want to start off by saying, this isn’t usually my type of story. I am usually into the more Alpha Male, erotic, sexy story, but I have heard so much about this author and wanted to give it a try. I was pleasantly pleased.
I am also one of the readers who read this book without reading all the others before it. I did not have a problem following along. Ms. Collins was smart to fill you in on what the “back story” is all about in the prologue and then continues to fill in the gaps that would be important for you to understand why Carter is the way he is.
Oh… Carter, yes, he is a college graduate who is seeking an internship at a company that he has dreamed of since he was a child. He is living in Florida and if he gets the job, he will have to relocate Denver, Colorado. He will have to leave his family, but he really wants the job, little did he know his boss will be the beautiful daughter of the owner of the business, Julia.
This story had a bit of angst in it towards the beginning. I didn’t think I was going to like it, because I do not like “angst”, but it worked itself out and I no longer wanted to strangle someone. Then it moved on to a sweet love story. Very romantic and Carter teaches Julia some things, and Julia teaches Carter some things about what you want in life and love.
It was a “SWEET ROMANCE”, not something I would normally pick up. So, if you like the sexy stuff like me, you will enjoy it, and if you like sweet romance, you are going to LOVE it!
