The Uncover series combines the best elements of a book with model elements to help readers truly "uncover" the mysteries of what makes things work. A fascinating three-dimensional presentation allows in-depth, hands-on exploration of the subject at hand. This unique "model" is easily build, deconstructed and re-built layer by layer, system by system just by turning a page, until an understanding of the topic is achieved. The complexities of the human body can be daunting, particularly for children. This book-model combination takes some of the mystery out of how the body works. It covers all the major systems and processes. Children get to look at each system on a different page, then by closing the book, combine them into a whole. 16 pages. Ages 8+

This series of books was one of my absolute favorites growing up and I have vivid memories of reading and re-reading these books, tracing my fingers along the arteries, veins, and muscles that compose every part of us. When I saw that I still had these books and that they hadn't been long to time or a hurricane or anything, I was ecstatic.

I know some of you out there are probably thinking, "Ew! Why would I want my kid to read a book about the systems in the human body?" I know my parents definitely thought I was a little weird being 7 years old and obsessed with these books. But I can tell you that I grew up not being squeamish about these things and I had a good head start on some science concepts that we discussed in school.

The book essentially unpacks the human body system by system and goes into detail about each system, what it comprises of, how it functions, why it's important, and more. I also reviewed the dog version of this work, but I liked having both to compare between. I would flip back and forth to the same system in each creature and see how we were similar or different.

I really think you cannot go wrong giving your students or children more scientific books and resources. The books also give fun facts and images for everything it discusses, so it is rather thorough. it helps to provide a visual and physical understanding of our bodies and how they function which I think is a great thing for all children to know.
As you progress through the book you essentially build or deconstruct the body. Each system has its own page and therefore its own page spread. I am not sure quite how to describe it, but once the book is closed or flipped to the back, you have a complete body with the skeleton, muscles, organs, veins, et cetera. So you can separate the physical bits of each system piece by piece. So the digestive system organs are separate from the urinary system organs and so on. Truly a wonderful book and a great educational experience!

This is a great book for students to take a hands on dive into the workings of the human body. the language is scientific and yet simplified as to inform the student or child reading to understand what they are absorbing. the model is also attached to the pages so that you know exactly what parts of the body you are learning about.

The model is very well done; as you turn each page some parts are removed and the next page focuses on the new top layer. Legomeister loves it. The information is very interesting, not oversimplified, but broken up into small, digestible chunks.

Warning: with constant use and abuse the model will break. The layers are held to the book by small clear strips of plastic. We've had this one about four years, and it has been well loved by Legomeister and Little Miss, and it's starting to fall apart. I have hot-glued it back together a couple of times, and that seems to hold ok until it breaks in a new place.

Really, though, they love it so much, and it's so informative and interesting, it's well worth it.

Purchased this book for Christmas at the Scholastic Warehouse sale. (If you have one of these near you look for their annual holiday sale online - great deals.) Anyway, the book is a huge hit with my 6 and 3 year old. The 3 year old is absolutely facinated by it.

My kids LOVE this book! As with many of the health and medical books I own, I have reads parts of them according to information I needed at that time. I am marking them as "Read" and they are all 5 stars!
