The one that everyone was cautious of. Maybe it was the tattoos. Maybe it was the way he gave off a ‘don’t screw with me’ vibe. Maybe it was because he just told them to leave him the hell alone.
Regardless, people gave him his space.
He was screwed up, and everyone knew it.
He got tattoos because he liked the pain. He was standoffish. He didn’t have many friends outside of work. And the only thing he had going for him was that he was a good cop.
Everyone wondered about him, but no one asked.
The only one that didn’t treat him as if he was screwed up was Nikki Pena, a woman that he couldn’t have.
Nikki was that girl.
The one that everyone loved.
The one girl that he’d destroy if he let her have her way. What did she want?
Him.
But, he couldn’t give her him. She didn’t deserve what it would take to be with him.
So Michael would suffer in silence…or so he thought.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
I really wanted to like this book. And I did - for the first 20 pages or so... Then it all went downhill. Here are a few issues I had with the book. - I HATE when authors push an agenda with a book. The hero studied to be a doctor but decided to give it up because he saw a woman getting an abortion- and she just killed her unborn child for no reason... Hmm- judgmental much??!! I guess saving other people's love lives just could not compete... So when I am reading a romance book with lots of sex, I dont care for that type of comment. It could have been written SO much better than that. - the hero has mental issues and doesn't want kids but the heroine gets pregnant ( the pill that didn't work thing again...sigh...) And then - BAM - he is OK with it... Oh and never mind that his mental problems barely get 5 pages in the book. - the heroine is supposed to be independent, but she just gets pushed around... These are just a few of the issues with the book. I want my 2 hours of missed sleep back
I love this author,so very glad I stumbled across this series,what's not to love,gorgeous Alpha men,strong women who love them and a true sense of family within the team as each member of the team meets the ONE for him!So many laugh out loud moments and edge of your seat suspense!all I can say is please do buy this book and the other in the series,you will be so glad you did
*ARC provided by the author in exchange for honest review*
The only think you need to know is...this book rocks, Michael and Nikki were awesome...but I did write a full review about how awesome this book and series are below...
I absolutely adore this series and author. I literally love every book she has written.
Michael and Nikki's book is probably the one book everybody has been anticipating. I know I was. From the very beginning Michael has this mysterious vibe going on about his tattoos and just about him in general. Everything gets answered in this book.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this book (I know, shocking right?). This one was just as good as the others in the series. It really don't shock how she comes up with so many different story lines.
I loved Michael and Nikki. I loved reading about them finally getting together and getting their HEA. I really liked in a few scenes we really got to see Michael's more vulnerable side. As for Nikki she totally kicked butt. I really liked her.
I really didn't want to give too much away because i know how everybody is dying to get this book and i didn't want to spoiler anything. But i will say is if you have loved all of the other books thus far you will love Michael and Nikki's.I really liked the plot in this book. Like it was kind of weird the things the "bad guy" done but it sure did keep my attention. I literally read this book in a few hours. So great job Lani. But I really enjoyed the scenes where all of the SWAT was together. And I love how Lani is a safe author. And by safe I mean none of the guys sleep with any other woman except the MC. Their might be exes but that's it.
A Big Thank You to the Author...
I would liked to thank the author for letting me read and review all of the Code-11 KPD SWAT series books. I have really fallen in love with these characters and cannot wait to see what she writes next. #FavoriteAuthor #MustRead #SheKnowsWhatShesDoing
Can’t tell you enough how much I HATED this book and hated the ending of the KPD Swat series. This book is rife with political agendas and it was gross. Inaccurate descriptions of abortions and hating the democratic party. I mean you always knew this was the mindset of the author, but she really went all out in this book. TRIGGERS there are a lot of murdered babies in this book. LLV really loves killing children.
So, we’ve been waiting patiently for Michael’s story. He’s been so sweet and funny in all the other books. Now he’s a complete asshole that can’t be bothered to care for or be involved with his pregnant girlfriend. F*ck I hated this book. Let’s get on with it…..
Michael (SWAT, doctor, bipolar, douche) met Nikki (sister of Nico, nurse, loud) at a party a few years back. Their timeline and backstory was sketchy. They dated for 6 months before they slept together. We don’t even get to hear about their first time together which always pisses me off. So the next day he tells her he doesn’t want kids with her and leaves and they don’t speak again until now, which is like 2 years later? Maybe it’s just 1 year.
So we start with Michael being divorced from a royal b*tch, Jocelyn, who is also a nurse where Nikki works and gives her hell. Nikki hates her. Jocelyn was cheating on him during their marriage and that’s why he left her. For some reason he didn’t tell anybody else that information. So his mother continues to invite her to family meals and holidays. It’s the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever heard. There’s more about that listed in the spoiler section.
You also have Michael working with the FBI on a case where someone is killing cops and their pregnant wives.
I don’t for one second feel like these two actually love each other. He definitely doesn’t act like he loves her. Plus, it’s about 75% her POV, so we don’t even know what he’s feeling. Even in the epilogue they’re fighting. Ugh so pissed off about this.
Sh*t I can’t really tell you about the book without TELLING you about the book. I’m putting the rest under..
POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW
So many f*cking issues in this book.
Bipolar: So Michael’s reasons for not wanting kids is because he’s bipolar and doesn’t want to pass that to his children. The second Nikki gets pregnant, it’s never mentioned again. He has no fears about it, they don’t discuss it, nothing. This was literally his only fear about having kids and then he just completely forgets it.
Jocelyn: So Jocelyn is the evil ex-wife that both he and Nikki hate. In fact, she’s currently f*cking 3 different doctors at the hospital. Then at family night, she announces that she and his brother are engaged. Nobody knew they were even dating. Michael does end up telling his brother why he divorced J, but he doesn’t bother mentioning that she’s cheating on him as well. Seems pretty rude. Then…… they make a big deal about her and how horrible she is in the first quarter of the book, then she completely leaves the story. She only pops back up during the epilogue where she’s suddenly a great person and a great mom and part of the family. UMMMMM WHAT THE F*CK. It makes it sound like she’s going to be involved in trying to sabotage Nikki and Michael – but there’s nothing. I think LLV is bipolar.
Michael: Once this fool finds out that Nikki is pregnant, he leaves her for over a month. Won’t talk to her. Won’t see her. Just texts occasionally. He’s had NOTHING to do with her pregnancy. Hasn’t bothered to go to ANY of her doctors appointments. Hasn’t asked how she’s feeling, if she’s having morning sickness, if she needs anything. NOTHING. He’s a complete bastard.
Serial Killer: So much mess on this. First, the media is gossiping about it like crazy. Michael and the FBI suspect the killer is a doctor working at a specific facility. This facility also happens to be the only one in town that treats the pregnant women in Kilgore. That includes all of the wives from this whole series. So Michael knows he has a pregnant woman, he’s got to assume she’s going to the doctor, but he doesn’t tell her NOT to go to the hospital that’s under investigation?? Let’s not forget, he’d know where she goes to the doctor at if he’d bothered being involved in the pregnancy at all. LLV really makes you hate him in this book. Plus, Nikki has to see a doctor who’s not her primary. She says immediately she felt a bad vibe from him. That his touch made her want to vomit. She felt that something was wrong with him. When Michael tells her they suspect the killer works at that hospital, she doesn’t recall the one evil doc that made such an impression on her??
Family: His mom loves Jocelyn more than him. Her mom tells her she’s sinning by getting pregnant and not being married. Stupid LLV and her agenda.
You’ve also got the usual things like vagina humor and the repetition of words.
This entire book was a f*cking mess. I hated it. I hated LLV for turning Michael into this jerk.
Okay friends yes we know this is the last KPD Swat book .. BUT … we are getting two new series! YES! They are the Kilgore Fire Department (giggles like an idiot) and a spinoff series of all the Free Kids. WHAT ?!?!?!?! -- Wait there is more --- you will see our boys (whatever with their wives .. Im kidding … ) in these books.
Lets chat about the cover shall we? Lani is brilliant in her cover choice. Myself, I would click the book just to have that on my screen to keep for myself. Yes .. Im that person. As I read everything including the dedications, etc I can tell you this mesmerizing man is Andrew England ... waving! Hi Andrew! Im a book lover, that means the cover, the snippet, everything .. LOVE IT!
This is my man Michael and Nikki’s story. As we know, Nikki is Nico’s sister. First of all Nico and Nikki are hilarious in this book. I laughed so hard at these two and their back and forth banter. There is a wrestling scene that I read over more than a dozen times because it was so dang funny. You also are blessed of course with the “words of wisdom” prior to each chapter … Love that!
We head into the book with Michael being expected at a family dinner which includes his ex wife Joslin and his arrogant brother Dean. Michael’s mom much less his family has no idea that he divorced Joslin because she couldn’t keep her legs closed. Michael's mother, in an attempt to keep Joslin around in the family, includes her in everything.
Nikki is a phlebotomist on the IV team and studying to be a midwife. Nikki and Michael were obviously in love and had four wonderful months together that were destroyed with a few small sentences out of Michael’s mouth. Nikki, the girl is sassy and full of fire. She is awesome. Marvelously written and thank the lord not a skinny blonde she is a female lead that you can connect with; a tough woman, bottom line.
Michael has some heavy things going on and I applaud Lani for writing about these “issues.” I use that word because I don’t want to divulge anything to anyone that hasn’t read the book or any of the others. I will tell you these things play heavily into who Michael is and how he handles his life. He is damn good at his job but walking in on the horrific suicide of a husband, small child and pregnant wife turned his stomach. Michael’s nightmare has just begun. Do I need to describe Michael. We know his past; quit medical school to go into the Navy; medically discharged and now carries a badge. He is one emotional man, beautiful even with all his self inflicted demons and fears. Fears that he has created in his head not trusting anyone to be able to handle.
This is a fantastic story. There are so many different things going on. We have Michael battling with his own self, a surprise announcement, and a series of horrific murders all targeting a specific “type” of family.
We get to visit with some of the guys again of course along with Michael’s sister Hannah and her son Reggie. As normal that’s about all you are getting from me as I don’t do spoilers. What I can tell you is that Lani once again has outdone herself especially since the book handles some serious issues with our guy. You get a fantastic and eye watering recap of the men and their families at the end of the book. It will leave you teary eyed remembering the brilliantly written family unit we have been honored to share with KPD Swat. There is also a new interest … Hannah and Wolf. I love that … really love that. You will see why as you move through the pages of Coupe De Grace. Wolfgang Amsel works for the Karnack Police Department. And then .. its over. But again have no fear. KPD is not gone; its simply growing.
You also are gifted a preview of Counter To My Intelligence coming January of next year. I was provided with an ARC for an honest review. Thank you Lani. Review to appear on Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
For me, I wanted to love this book. One, because it's Michael. But two, because it's LLV. Unfortunately I can't say I loved it, I liked it, just not love. To me, there were too many loose ends, too many WTF moments, or just random that didn't make sense.
I'm going to try to relay my response to this book without spoilers. Looking at that now, seems like it might be hard to do.
Okay, my issues. The ex. The cheating. No one says anything. The family never realized the wrong their doing . His brother and who he's dating. Her cheating. Again, no one says anything. What Michael said that caused the break up, never gets discussed in detail. How did they get back together so fast. Wait- she asked him if he would what!?!? Does anyone in this family have balls? And who the hell does this woman think she is? Why does no one stand up to her!?!? Hold up... There's a second person? Wait, what!? Where did that come from.
I felt like there were too many lose ends. Did I like the book, yes. But I felt like there was so much more that could have been tied up to make it better.
All in all its a good book. Typical LLV where you will fall in love with the male and the woman who stands beside him.
You know the saying "it's not you, it's me" when a couple breaks up? That was me with this book. I know a lot of folks love this book but I really struggled with it... A LOT.
What made me crazy:
1. Leakage. I'm sorry if I read that word once it was too much. The sheer volume mentioned in this story was WAY TOO MUCH. Yuck. 2. H - Michael - the glimpses we got of him in the other books in this series he seemed so promising. IMHO the author failed to fulfill the promise of Michael that we saw in earlier books. 3. h - Nikki - again, probably me, but this h had the depth of a shallow puddle. Other than the sex I was struggling to see why Michael loved her so much.
Unfortunately for me not a strong finish to this series.
Coupe de Grace is the seventh and final installment in Lani Lynn Vale’s fantastic Code 11-KPD SWAT series and is Michael and Nikki’s story. One of the things I loved most about this series was the way Vale was able to surprise me in each book with an imperfect hero – each one of them had some characteristic, flaw, or issue that they hid, dealt with or had to live with. Some of these things I never saw coming, and of the ones whose situation I did see coming, the surprise was in the way that character handled themselves or their issue. It was really refreshing to read about these totally badass alpha males dealing with some of these things, it just made these guys all the more endearing to me.
Michael ‘Saint’ Alvarez, the lone police officer in a family of medical professionals, is used to not meeting up to expectations. His choice of profession is a constant source of friction with his family, a family that includes his pediatrician father, surgeon brother and his mother and sister who were both nurses. Michael attempted to tow the line by going to medical school. But while witnessing a particular procedure during his schooling greatly affected him, he realized he couldn’t actually pursue the profession. Instead, he went into the Navy, while finishing up his degree, and then upon his discharge, he joined the Kilgore Police Department as a patrol and SWAT officer.
“I was in love with the woman. No ifs, ands or buts. So in love with her that I could barely be around her.”
Nikki Pena is a phlebotomist working on the IV Team at the hospital while studying to become a midwife. The younger sister of Michael’s police officer colleague, Nico, she’s the life of the party, notoriously and chronically late and has been in love with Michael as long as she’s known him. They dated briefly two years earlier when a comment by Michael didn’t come out exactly as he intended and a devastated Nikki ended it. For his part, Michael never corrected her understanding his mistaken statement, thinking instead that he was doing her a favor by letting her go.
“She would forever have my heart, but I’d never hold hers.”
For two years, the pair circled or avoided each other while studiously attempting to ignore their feelings for the other. When finally, on a really rough day for Michael, Nikki reaches out by doing something kind for him, and he realizes he’s had enough of being without her. He asks her out, she accepts, and they begin seeing each other again.
“I’m not that fucked up mess I was when I was fifteen. I’m not ever ‘in my head!’”
Michael is working with some outside agencies to solve a string of murders against police officers and their spouses, and this case is affecting him greatly. Coupled with the fact that he’s “being handled” by his family because of his brother’s engagement to his ex-wife, the hospital whore, nurse Joslin, he’s grateful for the light that Nikki brings to his otherwise dark life.
“…the thing about Michael and me was that we’d both gone through hell together and come out the other side.”
These two had a lot to overcome and deal with in order to be together. If he wanted to keep her, Michael needed to open himself up and share with her. It wasn’t easy for him, but he did it. For her part, Nikki had to trust in their relationship and that Michael was going to let her in. Having been burned by him before, this wasn’t easy for her. Nikki gets news that could rip them apart, will she trust this new Michael with the truth or will she keep it hidden?
“I just knew everything would be alright. Why, you ask? Because Michael said it would, that’s why.”
I loved these two! These two have always been in love with each other. Stuck in the barely friends zone for so long, they had their work cut out for them to get to the other side. Michael was determined, though, that this time would be different, and Nikki was hopeful.
“We had our scars. We had our doubts. But we also had each other, and as long as I had him at my side, we could get through just about anything.”
I loved the way that Vale portrayed Michael. He had a lot of issues revolving around his condition, and she nailed those issues perfectly. This was probably one of the more emotional books in the series, and it dealt with some heavy issues. Ever the masterful storyteller that Vale is, though, she managed to balance it out perfectly with light and funny moments. And of course, no Lani Lynn Vale book would be complete without those hilarious quotes that kick off each chapter.
Another book down, another series complete, and what is sure to be yet another bestseller for the talented Lani Lynn Vale. Coupe De Grace was a fantastic ending to a fan favorite series! I love this author, I love this series, and I loved this book.
Five hot, honest and hopeful smooches for Lani Lynn Vale and Coupe De Grace!
Lani Lynn is definetly right up there in my fav author pile.
Finally we get to read Michaels and Nikkis book! Iv been waiting on this since Nico&Georgias book!!!!
Poor Michael, he's doing everything wrong for the right reasons. He genually believes he's doing the right thing by not being with Nikki because of things he cannot help. It hurt my heart hearing him think he wasn't good enough for her and he's never be able to give her what she needs. Michael was definetly beautifully broken. He was so concerned about things that he couldnt help or change that it took over his life. He was always the question mark through the series, the one that made us all wonder about him, who he really was,what he's thinking?. He was dark and broody, very much the watcher of the group.
Nikki God I felt for her. She loved him with everything she had and didn't understand what went so wrong. She was always so nice to everybody until that Pena temper leaked through! God I nearly busted a gut laughing when she stole his truck!!and the fact that it was Nico who caught her!!! There was tears and everything while laughing at that scene.
When Michael finally realises that it's no use staying away from her that's when the magic started. When he took her to his special place and explained a few things it was heart breaking to realise her was expecting rejection when in fact all she gave him was acceptance. The sexy times between the two where smoking as per usual with lanis wicked dirty writting. And them tender moments between the were gush worthy. They didn't have it easy on the road to blissful love but it was for sure entertaining, between and mad cop killer, Michaels moody broody attitude and Nikkis Pena temper it was a joy to read them find there happy ending, with obviously a few surprises along the way;)!
It's always a pleasure to read these book I'm a forever Lani Lynn addict but one thing I will say is the ex wife seriously should of been gone. She was a bitch. I.did.not.like.her.one.bit! Always a pleasure hearing from the previous characters too and I just cannot wait for more!!!
Bring on Silas's book!! I'm mean come on Lani Lynn you freaking tease!!! I know have to wait till January to read! I just shed a tear at the thought!!! A whole month omg what will I do...:( I will wait of course because it will totally be worth it;) preorder yes!
FINALLY, Michael & Nikki got to tell their story. I truly enjoyed the humor infused throughout the story (those chapter headings are AWESOME), the touching on delicate subject matter, getting to catch up with characters from previous books & I absolutely LOVED Nikki. But, at the same time... I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this one. I wanted more. More from Michael, more of the strong connection that I know they had with one another, more passion... It was definitely a good read but something was just missing for me.
Nikki... I ADORED this woman! She had spirit, she was fierce & she stayed so very strong in the most stressful of situations. Stealing Michael's truck, her dancing at Salsarita Mamacitas, her relationship with her family & the hilarious things that came out of her mouth are just a few of the reasons why I loved her. I can easily say that Nikki is one of my favorite SWAT heroines!
Michael... I liked him but honestly, I wish Nikki would've made him work for it a bit more. After he made his play for Nikki once again, I appreciated the way he opened up to her about the tattoos, the way he turned Nikki into a "walking horny machine" & his determination in helping out the abused children in his cases at work (even if one led to their time apart). And he was super sweet in the epilogue.
There were a couple of confusing spots in this book for me. I was completely baffled with one scene that goes from flashback into present. I read & re-read it a few times because it felt like it should still be in the past but it wasn't... It went from past relationship to present relationship. Huh? Then the time apart stuff... WTF, Michael?! I definitely was not a fan of that communication breakdown. And one more thing... How come Michael's name changed from Perez to Alvarez (Bennett's last name) in the second half of the book?
Oooh, & let's not forget Joslin. I really disliked the way things ended with her. It would've been so much better without her sticking around for so long.
Coup De Grace is a must-read for fans of the SWAT series. Can't wait for the next Lani Lynn Vale adventure!! Will it involve Hannah & Wolf? Hmm...
So this came at the perfect time, you know, when you just finished a read that was...... not good. So let's just say this baby popped up on my kindle and I waited, I promised myself I would finish this book before I started, what to me, is a book by an author that is just AMAZING. Yeah, that didn't work, I said, oooo just 20 min with my coffee this AM....um.... 2 1/2 hours later, I was done....oops!
LOL anyways as usual here is your warning, THIS IS PART OF A SERIES, I DO RECOMMENED YOU READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS. WHY? YOU MAY ASK, CUZ YOU WILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT HAS HAPPENED OR WHAT'S GOING ON, AND LET'S FACE IT, STARTING IN THE MIDDLE OR END OF A SERIES IS JUST FREAKING CRAZY. Ok, you were warned...
So, finally we get Michael and Nikki's story!!!! And yes this was worth the wait! For those that have read this series, Michael and Nikki are side characters that we grew to love while reading Nico's story. Michael and Nikki had been in a relationship before, but for a couple of good reasons, it didn't work out. Will Nikki give Michael a second chance? We get to see everybody in this book, and I loved it. With a bit of a mystery, some drama, needing a cold shower sexy time, and hot alpha males this was fantastic.
I can say, I laughed and giggled probably the last....25%. Lani Lynn Vale pulls you into this world where it will play out in a movie, and have people around you thinking "what is wrong with her, she keeps laughing!", or in my case, "o crap, she is crying." LMAO I give this 5 stars.
"When we pulled someone over, we aren’t happy to do it. We’re wary. When we pull you over, are you going to be accepting of why we pulled you over? Will you rant and scream at us for doing our jobs? Will you pull your gun on us? Pull out a knife from some hidden place inside your car and stab us with it. Will your passenger do something? A car to most people is just that, a car. A car to a police officer is a weapon. It can run over us. It can hide larger weapons. It can get you away from us and put other people, innocent people, in jeopardy. It can house more than one person who could potentially harm us. So you see, there are multiple facets to look at when a police officer pulls someone over. "
I think this point in the novel, Vale was able to bring reality into this story in such a way it was impossible to ignore. In recent months we've heard numerous reports in the media about the struggles of stopping cars and I think it was just beautifully captured here.
So I'm finding with this series that the author is a bit inconsistent when it comes to the enjoyment of each story. I seem to like every.other book that comes out. The chemistry btwn Michael and Nikki was non existent. His reveal was anticlimactic and overall the story was just a big snore fest. 2.5 *HUGELY disappointed* stars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The long-awaited last book of a series that made me laugh and cry a lot from the first to the last book =)
What I particularly liked : - the second chance romance between Michael and Nikki that I was waiting for so much ! I must admit there were a lot of painful moments (Nikki's secret revealed at the party in particular !!) but I devoured everything >< - always the nasty ex trope, I can't get enough of it =D (add to that the family drama and I loved it !!) - all the horrible drama with the murders of officers and their families !! (the end !!) - the fact that the hero is neuro-atypical (and his love for tattoos which I found so endearing !)
In short, a final book that concludes this series perfectly ! If you want sexy romances that are a bit unrealistic for all dramas but very fun, I recommend it !
Michael knows he made a mistake when he broke up with Nikki, he knew she wanted kids and he didn't. However Michael had his reasons and now two years later he is willing to look at other ways to have a child if it means he can have Nikki in his life. Once Nikki understands who Michael is and the side of him he is afraid of, she loves him more. When Michael is pulled into a case that could put Nikki in danger, he does what he has to keep her protected.
There were aspects I liked in this one but there were a couple of things that I didn't. Michael is often in his own head and I think it keeps him at a distance for a reader a bit. Nikki is hilarious and hot tempered, she was delightful. Another good read in this series.
This is the final book in the Code-11 KPD SWAT series and it definitely did NOT disappoint! Michael has been the strong, silent man throughout the rest of the books. We'd catch glimpses of him but he was such a mystery. I knew this book would be amazing!!
Nikki is on the IV team at the local hospital and is also Nico's younger sister. She has been in love with Michael for as long as she's known him but that love wasn't reciprocated, or at least not that she knew of.
Michael is on the Kilgore PD and is also a member of SWAT. When we start the book, Michael is expected at a family dinner that also includes his ex-wife and his brother. Michael has a secret that has controlled his entire life. He is afraid to let anyone get close enough because he doesn't believe that anyone deserves his type of darkness but Nikki isn't willing to let go.
Can Nikki prove to Michael that sometimes love is all you need? Will an unexpected, life changing event bring them closer together or drive them apart for good?
This book was amazing! I loved Nikki and Michael together. The suspense piece was great. I'm sad to see this series end but I'm super excited for the spin offs!
Heat: 4 POV: Dual Tears: no Trope: Surprise pregnancy, second chance, mortal peril
Coup De Grace is everything I love about a Lani Lynn Vale book. Action? In spades! Hot, steamy romance? Oh yeah. Characters you care about? Yep, they're there too! I thought the plot of this was fairly predictable. You know Michael doesn't want kids, so of course, Nikki would end up pregnant. However, not being surprised by the plot didn't detract from my enjoy of this book at all. Coup De Grace is the finale for this series so you get everything wrapped up and its beautiful. You know when you finish a series and you sigh and smile? Yep, thats exactly what I did. I love this series and throughly enjoyed this final book. I am looking forward to new books and series by Lani, who has quickly become one of my 'auto buy' authors. If you haven't started this series, you really need to.
If you like: Maya Banks, Susan Stoker's SEAL series (another fav of mine!), Harper Sloan's Corps Security series, Kaylea Cross's Marked My full review will be on the blog on 9/6 http://www.thebookdisciple.com
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
One of my favorite go to authors has done it again! Loved it. I love the way "the gang" is always part of the story. Nikki and Mikey, Mike are great together.
My only complaint, and it has nothing to do with the story or the writing - I didn't have any laugh out loud moments or snickers with this one. I've come to expect them and was a little surprised that I didn't wake or stir hubby while having my Sunday morning read. Don't get me wrong it is still a great story. Given Michael's condition, maybe that's why this book had a more serious tone to it. I can't wait for the next story...I read the the teaser at the end, something I never usually do - it just makes me too impatient.
I've waited for this book since the release of Double Tap(Code 11- KPD SWAT #2), however, felt a little disappointed after finish this book.
I was unsure what disappont me most. Maybe the sudden change of H's mind to date h again? He suddenly forgot the reason why he broke up with her? Or his issue? Or was it because the similar routine of comedian child-birth process? Or the lack of build-up of emotion or their relationship?
I absolutely love these books.. I love the thrill,romance suspense it has everything I look for in a book. Michaels story was really amazing for me. To read about a man that has ADD and struggles with depression and is still able to do what he does is amazing. This author out did her self. I can't wait to read what's next...
Eh. This one was ok. It felt rushed. Character dynamics and the story/plotlines were underdeveloped. So many opportunities unexplored. We never got to see how and why Micheal and Nikki fell in love and I was surprised his issues and the dark moods we were continuously told about didn't play a larger part.
This was an okay book, but not great. I really had high hopes for this one since we knew that Michael & Nikki had something going on at one point based on previous books, but were now apart. We get some of the backstory: basically, Nikki dumps Michael after he tells her he doesn't want kids, but fails to get his reason as to why that is. The lack of communication seems to be a common thing with this couple.
I like that the author didn't make Michael a perfect Hero. He had his flaws (bi-polar and depression) and was learning to live with them. At the end we see this internal battle he has with himself when doubt starts to creep in. I had a lot of respect for him then and battling back to see the good things in his life and that he was worthy.
Nikki was a bit of a doormat. An impulsive doormat at that. She was always jumping to conclusions or doing something rash without thinking (like stealing a truck - come on man!). But she had a big heart and was a softie for kids.
It seems as though I'm always complaining about things being rushed or unresolved when I finish this author's books. In this one, the whole 2nd person that comes into play threw me, but then we hear nothing more about the person, only their name. What was the motive? You can't give us that type of scene and leave out a key resolution to the problem. Then there's the whole crazy ex that appears to have become a saint in the epilogue. For a while there I was wondering where she disappeared to. She was all-consuming in the first half of the book and was always making trouble. Then radio silence and we hear nothing again until the epilogue. What happened between her reign of terror and her reformation?
I read the Uncertain Saints books long before I went back and started with the first series to make it to this point. So I was happy to see Wolf & Nathan's story introduced in this one. I wouldn't have pieced that together without that connection in the end of this book.
This book didn't have many (if any at all) characters from the previous series make an appearance really, which was disappointing. I always like having that connection made again. Oh well, on to the next series.
This one was a solid read, as always LLV tends to write the best epilogues. Though I did see age discrepancy in the book, AGAIN, I love LLV but the devil is in the details and she doesn’t really focus on the small things like age... in this one Micheal says his sister Hannah had a baby at 18 and her kid is 2 which would make her 21 at the most, and he’s supposed to be younger than her by about a year which would make him 20. BUT in the beginning of the book they say he’s 35 so I have no idea how old these people are.
