This story is told in first person present tense; a writing style I often struggle with. However, Raven J. Spencer did a fantastic job of narrating the story in such a manner. It’s also told in dual point-of-view, something I loved as it allowed me to get into the heads of both Penny and Carter.

The story revolves around a tried-and-true plot – Stockholm syndrome/love thy captor. But what set this story aside is the fact the abductor is female! Albeit a millionaire complete with all the things riches offer, including a luxury home on an island, complete with a yacht.

Penny is working as a waitress, stressed out and trying to get by. After a busy shift and an unexpected $1,000 tip, she goes home has a wine, then wakes up in some unknown location. Needless to say her life is turned upside down overnight.

Carter is smitten with Penny, obviously, or she wouldn’t have gone to so much trouble to whisk her away and also lavish her with gorgeous clothing and surroundings. Penny’s growing attraction to her captor quickly has her falling for Carter.

One thing that struck me as odd while reading this story was Penny’s numerous references to her situation being like what happened to people in fictional stories. For me, it kept reiterating yes this is fiction, none of it’s real. I can’t say if that was a good thing or a bad thing. I can say it stopped me from over-analyzing the story. Because, well, anything is possible in fiction.

As the story progresses, it becomes apparent not everything is as clear as one would believe at first glance. There are a few twists and turns to keep a reader turning the pages. And it comes to light Carter had a very genuine, and one could say caring reason, for abducting Penny! Although I found what Carter did for a living, and her reasons for taking Penny to be somewhat conflicting.

I’ve tagged the story as erotica due to there being some adult content, but most scenes are rather brief.

I’d most definitely recommend this story. Even though it’s the first in a trilogy you can rest assured it doesn’t end with a gaping cliffhanger – thank goodness.

I don't really know what to make of this book. I couldn't put it down, and I liked the idea of a billionaire romance where it's a woman and not an alpha dickhead guy, but... I kind of think the circumstances make this a dubious consent book, which I'm not generally a fan of. And the premise, once everything is unravelled, is kind of a bit much. I don't think I would have read this one if I'd known. I don't regret reading it, I just think this one might not be for me.

Too far fetched to really get into

Full disclosure: I don't normally read books with covers like this. I mean, furry pink handcuffs? How bachelorette party, ick.

I was excited by the genre of lesbian billionaire romance, though - why should the straight girls have all the billionaires? However, it went to improbable wickedly fast after one of the leads realized she was drugged and kidnapped by the other. I quote:

"Damn my crazy kidnapper for having such a sexy laugh. Damn me for being so easy. Stockholm syndrome starts early, apparently. The romance novels are wrong. This is not what I’ve dreamed of all my life—or is it? Crap."

No. Psychologically speaking, and healthy adult speaking, this isn't the appropriate reaction to bring kidnapped, even if it is by a sexy billionaire who brings you into a luscious, rich library in a tropical paradise.... Wait, what was I saying, again?

Distracting thought of beautiful libraries aside, this is even more far fetched on most levels than the typical hetero billionaire romance, and requires way more suspension of disbelief than I could muster. I considered DNF'ing, but read all the way through.

I really like the idea of this novel. I have often fantasized about writing something like this myself - a dark romance where the alpha dude is instead a woman. So, I certainly enjoyed this story. However, I had a really hard time following what was going on for a lot of the time. I think that the author wanted there to be surprises and twists regarding why certain characters did certain things. Unfortunately, there was too much that was masked for my simple mind and it left me feeling frustrated rather than thrilled. I think that revealing more of the character's motivations would have allowed the author to go push the suspense up several notches.

Even the sex scenes could have had a little less inferred (which is a strange thing for me to write...) I don't care much for the mechanics of a sexual interaction, but I was having trouble determining whether the characters climaxed or not - and what it took to get there. I mean obviously the characters have a passion for one another, but I know that because I was told, not so much because I was shown.

There is a sequel that I will likely read in the future, but I'm not sensing a need to run out and get the book right away.

A great short novel to escape to after a not so good day. I liked how there was more under the surface than a kidnapping. Carter was my favorite character. Sexy, strong and determined to get and keep what she wants. I'm def going to read the rest in the series.

Your glasses will get steamy

Penny wakes up in an unfamiliar room not knowing where she is or why she is there. After receiving an enormous tip from a customer at the elite cafe she works trying to make ends meet and pay her university tuition, at she is whisked away to her amazing holiday mansion on a secluded island. But Carter is not so forthcoming with her reasons as to why she has whisked Penny away, having drugged her and not telling her where she is. All she says is that she is safe here. As time goes on and Carter gradually allows Penny more freedoms, she starts to give her little snippets of her life and what it is she does, but not ever really uncovering her real motives behind the kidnaping. Not so reluctantly, Penny realises that she does feel safe with Carter and begins to fall in love with her.

Raven takes the reader on a mysterious roller coaster with this story. While not really knowing why Penny has been kidnaped but wanting to find out the real motives. She has described Penny’s character well and as the story progresses she gives enough tid bits of information about Carter to keep the reader guessing and wanting to find out where the story will lead. The story is well written with a twist that the reader would not have expected but makes the story more involved. As promised there is elements of suspense, romance and enough erotica to get your reading glasses all steamy. Well done Ms Spencer, a well written novel. 4/5 stars.

This story is simply astounding. The number of levels at work, the variety of subterfuge, and the ever heightening passion between the two main women had my heart pounding and my brain spinning. I loved it! Plus having a powerful and incredibly wealthy woman apparently controlling things was super enticing. A winner. Incredible!

Penelope Elliot is trying to juggle, manage, and excel at school, and at the job she needs to cover her expenses. She is stressed to the max, but vibrantly focused. Then her whole world gets turned upside down. She appears to have been kidnapped. Additionally, the evidence seems overwhelmingly solid that her abductor is profoundly and fully smitten by her detainee. In turn Penny rapidly develops intense feelings for her captor. The multiple feeling and passion levels that evolve and grow certainly seems to underscore a major case of Stockholm Syndrome at work. Yet the mystery and dance that ensues turned my head around again and again. Magnificent!

Carter Forbes is extraordinarily wealthy, dominant, and a mesmerizing individual. Right from the beginning it appears that she holds all the cards, but it is the passionate and loving attachment toward Penelope that completely knocked my socks off. All the pieces to the enigma about one Carter Forbes does not make it to the table until practically the end of the book. I was tossed for another incredulous loop by this. Then, although the puzzle seemed complete, I did require two reads of the ending for all the curtains to be truly undone. For me, that was a bit of a weakness within an amazingly engaging and satisfying book. Nevertheless, getting to finally see all the parts that make up Carter is definitely worth the ticket. Her formidable presence, command, and fervor raises the bar and made this book by and large unforgettable and pushes my horizons and appreciation for the excellence a committed woman can accomplish. Phenomenal!

There is a generous supply of passionate, loving encounters between the main characters that additionally places this book in category all its own. I recommend it. It is wonderful reread material, too. Conspicuously sensational!

I received a copy of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads in return for an honest review.
Can I just say that some of this was a little weird? I'm not sure whether to think that this was a type of parody or satire of billionaire romances. If it is, then I like it a lot more. The big thing for me is the whole abduction part of the story. The general idea is that someone with that much money can do whatever they want with no consequences. The whole idea of Stockholm Syndrome and how luxury and exotic conditions can cause it to kick in sooner. When you have no real option of resistance or escape, how long could you keep up a struggle against a captor that you were initially attracted to? But a more basic question for me is how could a love that started with such a power imbalance ever be equal? I'm not sure that question is resolved at the end to my satisfaction. It was definitely an interesting read, but there are issues here that aren't fully explored or resolved.

I'll be honest, I struggled a lot with this book. I had a hard time connecting with either of the characters, particularly Penny.

From the start, Penny frustrated me with how quickly she was willing to accept her situation. She was kidnapped, and yet she only barely seems to freak out about it. And as for Carter, she was too secretive and aloof most of the time. Based on the ending reveal, I felt like she should have been more open with Penny.

I didn't feel like they spent enough time getting to know one another for them to really create much of a bond. I would have liked to have seen them both more fleshed out individually; I didnt feel like I knew much in the end about Carter besides her businesses and wealth and Penny beyond her job and schooling. I'd have also liked to have seen a serious conversation about what occurred to bring them together.

Really difficult to suspend disbelief

This book starts with a most implausible premise and never makes it real. So many unexplained developments, so many improbable plot twists, so many continuity errors, I wanted to stop reading halfway through. But I persevered so I could feel justified this review. Is it disappointing and a waste of time? For me, absolutely yes. But, if you're into soft bondage and domination, you may be able to overlook all the flaws in plot, characters and rationale.

I wanted to like this book, but didn’t. I wasn’t a fan of the characters (characters are very important to me) and I gave up when I started to skim through the pages. It sounds like a great book, but didn’t live up to my expectations. Maybe I’m just not into the controlling billionaire genre. I tried 🤷🏻‍♀️

Surrender Your Heart by Raven J. Spencer
Book review by Jessica Lucci

This is a modern fairytale like Beauty and the Beast, except that the beast is also beautiful. Penny is a hardworking student who catches the eye of Carter, a glamourous and extravagantly rich businesswoman. Penny falls asleep and wakes up in a lavish setting: Carter has kidnapped her! Although the modern-day Belle is captivated by the huge private library and enchanted by the wardrobe of lovely clothes, she is by no means taking her kidnapping lightly. She becomes torn between the physical attraction she feels for her captor, and her sense of self that demands she be set free, no matter that her prison is a paradise.

The two women grow together in a loving relationship, and Penny starts to realize there is more to her kidnapping than meets the eye. Scandal, business gone bad, espionage, and traitors are in their midst. Penny believes she will gain her freedom, but wants to make sure she can be free with her newfound love.

This is more than lesfic. It is adventure, a journey into self, and romantic escapism rolled up in a fast paced plotline that twists and turns when least expected. The sex scenes are written with pounding anticipation, and manage to create hot intimate moments devoid of crassness.

My favourite line is Carter’s response to a work colleague accusing her of having a “lesbian feminist agenda.” She tells him, “What rumors? That I’m a lesbian and a feminist? You’ve got to come up with something better than that. Those are not rumors.”

Excellent job, Raven J. Spencer! I cannot wait to read more by this author.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book, usually, I am not the biggest fan of the first-person style since I'm not native English and struggle with understanding whos POV I read at that time - sometimes I also forget the name of the mains when I read more books at the same time so its nice if it is clearly marked. But not with this book the chapters are clearly marked and therefore easy to understand whos mind I read at the moment.
The book is very well written and I absolutely love the way Spencer builds characters and describes them.
I couldn't put away that book, while reading I always asked myself why would Penny be so chilled in this situation, whats going on why is Carter always telling her she has to stay for a while but is also pretty open that she can go if it is safe but she hopes she stays with her. To find out i knew i need to read faster - so I did ;)
There were times it felt so surreal, especially when the Gardner was involved, Carter who allowed her phone calls what a real kidnapper wouldn't allow. At the end of the book you will find out whats behind all this and I was surprised and didn't expect this to happen.

It was a very joyful read I'm torn between I would have liked to know the reasons behind it all at the beginning and just would love to see how Penny finds out and its perfect like it is because I never finished a book that fast.

This is amazing

Wow, I have to say, this book was so good.
I loved how the crazy plot unfolded.
I loved how penny drew me in and made me feel her anxiety, her unwanted arousal.. the way she was so conflicted.
Carter had me seriously wondering... I thought she was some crazy stocker.
But the Author did such a good job writing this story, I fell in love with them both, every time trouble came up I was holding my breath hoping the would be ok. Stressing out when the cops came.
This book was very well developed. It had a good cast of sub characters as well .

Ok so was there anything I didn't like about the book?
The cop friend of Carter's. Her back story and how they knew eachother was kinda short told.
I would of loved to have experiance their wedding with her family and friends ending with them together on their honeymoon. The epilogue was kinda short.
Other than that
I found this book to be very well written. It came around full circle to explain everything..
This is a must read. One of the best romance stories out there.

I haven't finished reading the book, I'm more than halfway actually. And boy Carter Forbes makes me angry! I want to bash her head with a baseball bat, that entitled crooked bitch!
I don't care what the fuck your intentions are but don't you call yourself a fucking feminist if you capture a woman against her will, lock her on the premises and disregard her questions! You snatched the right of freedom from her! You're no hero!
The author really justified the situation, leaving holes in the storyline. There were a lot of questions and intense reactions that should have been coming from Penny, but author omit them to make it look less problematic but instead making it more problematic! And the narration Carter's pov, it just felt like a creep's musing inwardly. Think of it, if the same was done by a guy, would you have felt safe? I won't ever feel safe around people like Carter no matter how much they splurge on me. I prefer my freedom.
Yeah, as you can see, I'm really angry and the outburst may look childish to you all.

Such an intriguing story! I was hooked from just reading the synopsis. Such a different concept, and Spencer masterfully wove the mystery and suspense while doing it in first person, and it works so well. Great characters, and not just Penny and Carter. Spencer had me wondering from chapter to chapter, whether Carter Forbes was a good person, or just another wealthy, entitled brat, with criminal intent. But one I would not mind meeting anyway! I love Spencer's ability to stimulate my imagination with as many questions as she has Penny voice to herself, and wondered to myself how I would react to the situation.
I was thrilled with the mystery and suspense, left breathless by the erotic and romantic scenes, excited by the action, and totally surprised as my questions were answered. I could read this every day and be left wanting more. An exceptional read...I can't wait to read the rest of the Trilogy!

This is the 1st book of an installment of three and the 1st book I read from this author.

It's the story of Penny and Carter, two so different woman, and yet they're bound to each other. The beginning of the book was a bit … not boring but not really capturing as well. There were a lot of things I could not understand (yes, it is the way the story is plotted to build suspense and in the end it was all good) but this unsatisfied feeling from the first pages never really left me. Penny was a bit too naive and Carter a bit too bossy for my taste - though I really like this kind of stories … Maybe it was not so serious in the beginning as I would have liked it … But the conclusion hit me like a thunderstorm! This was great!

All in all it is a good book and especially the ending would have been a 5-star-rating but because of the first quarter of the book which didn't captured me fully I give a solid 4 stars.

Raven provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, and for a long while it had me wrapped up the same was it did it's main character Penny; who is Carter Forbes, and where can I get one?

You will find yourself drawn in by this book, it's impossible not to be. Written in First Person, the view switches between Penny and Carter a few chapters at a time, but these are clearly labelled and don't cause any confusion. It can be difficult to write first person so thrillingly, and Raven does and exceptional job of it in Surrender Your Heart.

A real 'make you think' read, whilst not wanting to question any oddity of the situation Penny finds herself in with Carter. Lot's left to the imagination, which only adds to the wonder of this brilliant book. I highly recommend this and can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy.

Loved It!

I am a fan of Raven J Spencer. I know this book and series was written a long time ago with a storyline that is still fresh and exciting. It was just that. So good. It had a little of everything you could want with a slight mysterious twist. Penelope wakes up dazed and confused in a warm comfy bed that is not hers. Next thing she sees is the woman she met in the cafe a few days earlier. What transpired is a woman was kidnapped, me and being held and locked in her new quarters by a woman she found sexy and who left her a big tip at the cafe. What is going on? Penny has no clue and Carter Forbes is not big on explanations other than to say she is safe and won’t be harmed. As the story unwinds there a twists and more twists that keeps it exciting to the climax. On to Book 2.

I loved this story about Penny and Carter. Penny was attracted to Carter when she waited on their at the cafe, obviously Carter felt the same way. Who leaves a $1000 tip for coffee and cake? Then Penny wakes up in a strange home in another country, having been kidnapped by Carter. I love how fast Penny falls for the billionaire who kidnapped her.
Carter has other reasons for kidnapping Penny but it’s only alluded to in the beginning that there are other reasons for Carter to being so protective of Penny. It’s a great rich girl/poor girl story. Surrender your Heart is part of a trilogy and i’m checking out the rest of the series soon. I recommend this story.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book at first when I read about how Penny ended up at Carter's luxurious house. Turns out I couldn't put It down. It was so well written that I felt the way the main character felt about it initially. However, as I continued to read I got over that part as did she. I continued to feel how she did throughout the book. The twists and turns were exciting and interesting. This book isn't your usual straight forward romance. There was another storyline underneath that intensified it. The erotic parts are nicely written and hot! I very much enjoyed this well written,  exciting book. I would highly recommend it. I will be reading it again and looking for other books from this author.

Complex tale of crime and passion. 🤔😱😘

Initially, I almost discarded this multilayered novel in to my batch of other kidnap D/S stories.
Totally contrived and unbelievable.
However, thank goodness, the characters appealed to me because their reactions to the given situation seemed more realistic than in most others of this genre.
While this is essentially an erotic novel, page after page reveals deeper, more insidious levels that give a great deal of depth, not only to the characters but why abduction and secrecy are so necessary to the plot.
I understand that this is the first in a series and it’s good enough to capture my interest to see where the two main characters deal with there future.
It is definitely worth reading.

After Penny receives a $1000 tip from an attractive woman at the cafe where she works, she wakes up in this woman's island retreat, having been drugged and kidnapped. The woman, Carter, is a rich businesswoman who assures Penny she is safe. Once Penny adapts to her new surroundings and gives in to her attraction, questions still remains but go unanswered when other dangers come into play.

This is one of those poor girl-rich girl fantasies with erotic power dynamics mixed in. While there's a lack of depth into each of the characters and a bit of reality suspension involved, the story is a page turner.

At first, this book really annoyed me because Penny was abducted and Carter, her captor and also a mysterious billionaire, was making moves on her. After a few days (maybe a week) Penny became a willing participant. Kind of reminded me of the 365 series.

I gave it five stars because the twist blew me away. Penny was about to be kidnapped by a human trafficking ring, but Carter and her right hand guy, Nick, kidnapped her instead and hid her away on a private island until things cooled off.

STILL a creepy situation for Carter, but law enforcement in this story needs someone morally gray to step in and rescue women in peril while they gather evidence. I'm curious to see how this plays out over the series.

Penny lives an every day kind of life with school and friends and a job and wakes up one morning on an island far from home kidnapped by a gorgeous billionaire woman. She is held captive in velvet chains unsure of what to make of Carter. Carter falls for Penny and Penny falls for Carter but a relationship based upon lies and half truths will never work, or will it? Overall premise is a bit stilted and the suspense is not really gripping but the characters are likable and some of the intimacy is good. Book one of a trilogy. Good one to have in your collection. Ms. Spencer is a likable writer.
