This was pretty funny. Example: "Earbuds do not make your farts silent."
It was also contradictory. Example: "Make sure to study in a yellow room because... Study in a green room... Etc." Okay, so basically I just just study in a room. But then "Try to study in nature because..."
And then sometimes it was just a joke. Example: "Put thumbtacks on the snooze button of your alarm and you'll never be late to class again." Uhhh... Okay, thanks. Sounds like a good plan.
Overall, I did enjoy reading this. There are about two tips per page, and the book is broken down into sections of common themes (like How to be Broke). There were also some cool numbered lists, diagrams, and checklists at the end of every chapter.
There were some very obscure facts in here. Then again, I found myself reading the same tips more than once a time or two. I guess because the author has them submitted to his site and the wording is different enough to not be an exact copy. Either way, it had it's flaws, but it was entertaining, innovative and informative.
if you’re in need of some college hacks, please read this!!!!!!! helped me hack college so well. i’m graduating with not even taking any classes and never stepping foot on campus!!!!!
It’s a bit more than three stars, but not four. It was helpful and covered a bunch of topics, which was nice. But there were some tips that were contradictory (like what color room is the best to study in) and I would’ve appreciated sources on some of the “facts” they gave. It just felt unreliable without them.
That aside, there were some useful things, so I’ll definitely be taking it with me for future reference.
It's Ok, but a lot of these hacks really don't matter. There are a few gems, but you could read up on them on the internet easily. Top 3: 1. Use Checklists and Organisation, it will make your life simpler 2. Always stick to your budget, find something you like doing to expand it though 3. There's no reason to stress about Uni-life. You'll either grow into it or you can read up on it if needed. It's really not as hard as you may think. Sure, its a big change, but learning all this is necessary at one point in life, so you might as well learn it now.
Like I said, not needed, but still useful from time to time
There were a few helpful things in this book that I hadn't heard before, but many of them were either sort of common sense or just not great ideas. Like, there was a section on homework and assignments and some of the hacks were just straight up cheating. I don't think this book will really aid me in my college experience.
A mixed bag of advice. Most of them seem really ad hoc and possibly just collected tips from the internet and not really verified or supported by science. Some lists and tips, on the other hand, are really handy. What was great in the German edition that I read, that all the websites or local tips were well updated to help German students.
It’s been a while since my college (student) days, but I decided to read this book anyway. There are some good tips mixed in with some questionable ones (like changing the date on your computer to make it look like a late assignment is on time), some good websites links as well as some broken links. Still, I’m glad I skimmed through it, since I work on a college campus.
lol i got this as a grad gift and some of it seemed legit but other bits i thought it was repetitive or contradictory, such as the color of the room to study in. also no sources!! i thought college kids should care about research validation? 🤨
I actually liked this book more then I thought I would. There were a lot of useful tips that I will come back and look up again once I start school in the fall.
It's a great book with some interesting hacks. I give it a 4 stars because some of the hacks were inaccurate. Ex: The discount code for Pappa John's Pizza didn't work lol.
HIGHLIGHTS: 1. SLEEP: - It’s been proven that lying on your right side will help you fall asleep faster than lying on your left.
2. SKILLS: - A high GPA looks good on paper, but networking and building connections is what gets you a job. - When you talk, you are repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new. - The key to confidence is walking into a room and assuming everyone already likes you.
3. SURVIVAL: - Minor in what you love and major in what will get you a job. - The biggest lie you will tell yourself in college is “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.” - Find three hobbies you love: one to make you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative.
4. CLASSROOM: - Never pack up early. Give your teacher your 100% undivided attention until the class is over. - The easiest way to build up your GPA is to do well at the start of the year when classes and assignments are easier. - Contribute to class discussions when appropriate. - Stay away from conversations with other students when your teacher is addressing the class.
Now this is a book I wish existed a decade ago. Could have helped save on a lot of time, stress, tears, and many a in-lecture freak out. It's a great little pocket guide to navigating the "post-secondary learning how to adult for the first time ever" phase that is college/university. This book has tips and tricks on everything that has anything to do with surviving that degree be it from how to make the best hot chocolate on the cheap (warm milk and Nutella...why the hell haven't I thought of that before?) to how to throw down on an exam and live to tell about it.
A great tome to give to anyone who could benefit from some seriously good life hacks. Fun to read when bored on the bus and small enough to not take up too much space in a backpack. And it's not just for those post-grad students. This thing makes for the perfect bathroom/coffee table/office desk read as well. You'll actually learn something useful every time you crack the spine.
