What do you do when a dragon crash-lands in your backyard? That's the question Terra's faced with when one of these creatures plows down into her cornfield. Should she help out the hunk of a man the dragon turns into, or turn him over to the trigger-happy 'authorities' that have come looking for him? The deciding factor—he has no memory. Giving him up just doesn't seem right… at least until she knows the truth of who he is. Alex has forgotten a thing or two—his name being one of them—but he knows there is something important that he needs to remember, if he could just get his battered brain to work properly. A little rest might help, but there's no time for that when the bullets start flying. Now he has to follow the few clues he has to discover who he is, and why people are trying to kill him. But that's the easy part. The hard part will be keeping his hands off the lovely lady helping him. For the Memory of Dragons is the exciting sequel to On the Wings of Accidental Dragons by Julie Wetzel.
Originally from Ohio, Julie always dreamed of a job in science. Either shooting for the stars or delving into the mysteries of volcanoes. But, life never leads where you expect. In 2007, she moved to Mississippi to be with her significant other.
Now a mother of a hyperactive red headed boy, what time she’s not chasing down dirty socks and unsticking toys from the ceiling is spent crafting worlds readers can get lost it. Julie is a self-proclaimed bibliophile and lover of big words. She likes hiking, frogs, interesting earrings, and a plethora of other fun things.
Earlier this summer, I threw my hat into the ring with 'I am not a fan of dragons'. Julie Wetzel introduced me to Accidental Wings and I thought 'Okay fine, maybe she made me like them once, but it won't happen again'. A few months later, Wetzel hit me with Castle and I thought 'surely it won't happen again', yet for a second time, her dragons blew me away. When Julie handed me the chance to try her dragons for a third time, I didn't even hesitate to jump at the chance. Julie Wetzel has changed my bookish ways, maybe I actually am a dragon person?!
It isn't often I love every novel in a series, but each time Wetzel puts pen to paper, my bookish heart soars with delight. For the Memory of Dragons most definitely did not disappoint!
In true One Guy's Guide to Good Reads fashion, I'd like to get my negative thoughts out of the way first. I only have one, thankfully. When it comes to a great read, I love losing myself within the pages of a story, escaping the realities of life for a while. While Wetzel is more than able to satisfy in that department, I will admit that this novel was far shorter than I would have liked. Clocking in at just shy of 130 pages, I knocked this out very quickly. With novels of this genre, I have always come to expect a much greater length. Wetzel tells a full, thrilling story within these pages, but I will admit I would have loved to see a much longer story in this world. While every story in this series is a shorter, quicker read, I still thoroughly enjoy and consider them each to be amazing. This is just something that I, personally, would like to see changed in future installments.
Now enough of that, let's rave!
While I've loved every installment of this series thus far, Alex and Terra's story may be my favorite yet! When a dragon crash lands in the field behind her farmhouse, Terra's life is changed in more ways than one. From mythical beast to naked man, Terra must take this confused stranger under her wing to keep him safe. But from what? When Alex awakes with no memory, he must piece the clues together to save himself and the rest of the his people from harm.
Full of action, quick wit, and a few steamy scenes, Wetzel packs a punch with this quick read. Every page was jam packed with fun and excitement, with more twists and turns than you'd ever expect. Crafted carefully with new settings, new characters, and new insight to the mythical world of dragons, Memory really stands out in the crowd.
With cameo appearances from some of our former characters, Wetzel ties in this third installment perfectly within her world. While Alex's character is, admittedly, much like other dragons we've read about, I believe it was Terra who really stood out in this novel. She's intelligent, strong willed, and street-savvy. Her character development, and surprise ending, really rooted the story with a great amount of emotion and reality that I was really glad to see.
The setting and world that Wetzel has crafted with this series is incredible. From ancient times to modern day, the world of Dragons and their human shifters is definitely unique and memorable. Much like other worlds with their feet in our realm, Wetzel has done a perfect job of altering the fabric of reality to let the fantasy stream through into our own world. With specifics and magic that aren't bogged down with rules, history, or cultures, Wetzel is able to better tell her story and make it enjoyable to even the most casual of readers. A true testament to the talent of her writing, Wetzel has far surpassed my expectations for the genre!
With the next novel in this series (titled For the Heart of Dragons) slated for release right around the corner, I have no doubt that Wetzel will continue to exceed my every expectation and confirm my beliefs that my views on high fantasy are changing. Let that be a lesson to all hesitant readers: one great series can, indeed, make a difference!
With all of this being said, it should come as absolutely no surprise that I am granting For the Memory of Dragons a well-deserved 5-star review! Julie Wetzel has yet to disappoint me, and I can't wait to see what comes next. I highly recommend this read to all lovers of high fantasy, paranormal, and romance novels, though be advised of the novels adult content, violence, and language. Don't miss out, add this to your TBR today! *****
I received a copy of the book from the author for an honest review... I was hooked with the first book On the Accidental Wings of Dragons, but just awed with the For the Memory of Dragons.. Terra's whole life was changed the moment she heard a loud crash in the field behind her house. She goes outside to investigate and sees a handsome naked man that just transformed from a dragon. He is completely out. When the dragon turned man wakes up, he realizes that they are running for their lives and he has no memory of who he is. Eventually as things start to fall into place, Alex is realizing that there is more going on that personally involves him, but is now bring Terra into it. But as he is trying to handle it all, his dragon is claiming Terra as a mate. This book is exciting to read from page 1! I love how there is intrigue and mystery that keeps the story going with the romance with Terra and Alex. I definitely want more DRAGONS!
Another fun sexy installment to the series :-) I really enjoyed reading from Terra's perspective, especially her quickly humor (Terra Fied), and Alex's sexy dragony actions towards Terra. I loved getting a cameo of Carissa and Michael, and even the dragon King. I really liked that this book was super sexy but didn't have sex- it's harder to find these types of romances nowadays. Looking forward to seeing the plot develop further in the next book. Im dying to find out who's killing dragons and why. And how are these weird drugs being developed? I'm also dying for Daniel to get his own story :-)
This is the 3rd installment in the Dragons of Eternity series and each works as a stand alone but personally I would suggest reading them all. Like the great Anne McCaffrey the chronological path of these books does not follow the release order but that doesn't bother me. This was a fun installment with a great mix of romance and fantasy with moments that had me laughing out loud!! I can't wait to see where this series goes. The world created literally opens itself up to pretty much unlimited options and I imagine I will enjoy every single one of them!
I quite like Terra's farmgirl down-to-earthiness and her get-it-done attitude. Those got quite the workout with her introduction to an unconscious Alex. This takes the amnesiac alien trope to another level, complete with conspiracies and pursuers with dastardly intentions. Seeing how Terra and Alex handled their roller coaster of a road trip kept my eyes glued to this story. Such fun!
Having fun with this series. The first book is free right now. Be sure to get that one. I like the dragons instinct. The author picked a good spot to start the next book. Getting the next book now. 😊
I'm a fan of the fist book more, but Julie Wetzel did a great job with this couple as well! Not only is the romance awesome, but the overall story arc is really picking up in this one. Guess I'll have to grab book 3...LOL
This was a fun story, and I liked the hero and heroine. My favorite dialogue in the book was, "Go ahead and keep yelling at me...It won't do you any good. I don't understand 'squeak squeak squeak squeakity squeak'."
I love the first book so much, I bought this one. I didn't enjoy the story as much, but I enjoyed the storyteller as much. Humor is the spice of life. These stories have enough humor to be palatable.
I found this book a bit more thrilling and on the edge of my seat. I think this sereies gets better with every book the goes by. I'm excited to know more and if the overarching story is delt with.
Different main characters, this time it was Terra and Alex as the human and dragon respectively, and I liked that it switched POVs like it did in the first book, too.
The story does go into a little bit of detail of what the 1st book hinted at: the dragons that are being kidnapped and killed. There's a mole among the Elite and a few things fall into place as a cause of this book in Alex's POV, but it doesn't go into that much detail because it mainly focuses on him getting his memory back, his human mate, and the fact that she was turned against her will by the bad guys into a dragon, which everyone is going crazy over because now they know what the bad guys are doing with all the missing dragons, they just don't know how or who exactly are the bad guys.
On the other hand, the book is fairly romance driven, meaning there was a lot of steamy scenes and angst, and other romance tropes thrown around, but I can't help but be on an impasse on that: on the one hand all the romance parts was adorable and I loved reading how they felt about each other, but on the other, it didn't really give that much help in figuring out the underlaying plot/problems like the first book did. At least in the first book, Michael uncovered more about the bad guys than Alex did in the whole book. This sequel focused more on him finally finding a mate and at the end, how they helped her with her dragon transformation and the such. And of course it left the ending hanging on who the bad guys are and what exactly do they want.
The other thing that I really enjoyed was the fact that Michael, Carissa, Kyle, and Daniel make appearances near the end of the book, and it was great seeing them again.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A dragon crash lands in Terra's backyard. Trouble shows up on her doorstep to confound the situation with the mystery dragon with no name and very little memory. Not to mention he is a very brooding dragon...
Another book I could not put down. A great standalone story.
It is quite a fun read. I like the silly funny romantic plot in the beginning. Sadly after the Alex regained his memory there wasn't any fun nor excitement. I think especially the last 30% of the book is pretty bland, could do more with hot romance or suspicious suspects or even twisted subplot!
This was my favorite in the series. I just loved the scene where Alez's dragon was pushing him to claim Tara and he was trying to hold it off. Too Cute.
