Forgotten Memories is the third book I have read in the SWAT: Top Cops series by Laura Scott. If you read Under the Lawman’s Protection you might remember that Shane was Leah’s missing brother. Gabriella is a doctor who had helped Shane and may have saved his life.
In Forgotten Memories she is kidnapped and Shane rescues her. All of that in the first chapter so don’t think I have ruined the story for you… it is just beginning. Shane’s teammates are not sure they believe that Gabriella doesn’t know why she was kidnapped. Shane realizes the secrets are buried in her memories. Shane is kept busy trying to protector her from the continued attempts on her life. I wasn’t sure I liked the book cover until after I finished the book. It ties in nicely to the storyline. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
By the title alone I knew where the story was going, but there was some twists that I did not expect. The characters were likeable and human. You wanted them to work together.
Shane Hawkins was a character that quietly lives his faith. He believes in prayer, during his job and remembers to always pray over his food. I respected that and the other characters. Shane is a member of a SWAT team.
Gabriella Fielding is the youngest trauma Dr. She puts everything into her job. After working 24 hrs straight she is tired and as she is leaving the hospital she is kidnapped by three men and forced into a truck. She has no idea why someone would kidnap her.
Shane is going to the hospital to pick up some evidence when he sees Gabby leaving. He decides to go and thank her again for saving his life months ago. He is wearing all black SWAT clothes and sees the men take her and follows.
This is full of drama, action and mystery. It does a good job of keeping my interest in the story and not wanting to put it down till through.
I was given this Forgotten Memories by Harlequin and Net Galley to read so that I can give a honest review of it in return.
Forgotten Memories is one the better Love Inspired Suspense books I've read -- I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did!
I loved the characters, Witness Protection aspect, and suspense. It all made for a great story that held my attention and made me eager to see how it would all end.
I recommend this book if you enjoy romantic suspense.
*I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own."
I really enjoyed this book and this new to me author's writing style. I did find some of the moves by the main characters to be annoyingly dumb lol. But overall really enjoyed it. Didn't really get one of the threads at the end but enjoyed how the cover tied in!
This is the 1st book I read by Laura Scott. This book's story line was really good. I really liked the action in this story. I really liked Gabby's character. I really liked Gabby's toughness in this story. My heart broke for Gabby. I really liked Shane's character. I really liked the ending.
I enjoyed this book. Gabby is a surgeon who once upon a time saved Hawk's life. Hawk is actually SWAT member Shane Hawkins and now it is his turn to save hers. Seeing her being kidnapped, he saves her but now he has to keep her safe. Unsure if she knows more than she is saying, Shane is conflicted on what to do because his head and his heart are at war. He vows to keep her safe and help Gabby find out exactly what is going on. I remember both Gabby and Hawk from a previous book (actually when they met!). I loved how the book started with action right out of the gate. There was no slow build up but instant action. That pulled me into the story that really didn't slow down. I really liked Gabby and how assertive she was and could take care of herself. I also liked how Hawk was going to protect her one way or the other. The other characters in the story were great and I didn't figure out exactly who the bad guy was before the reveal so that was nice! It was a 4/5 for me. I liked all the characters and the story's pace was great.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
This book causes sleep deprivation in a good way. Let me explain. Most of the time I can start a book and read parts over a couple of days. I started reading this and didn't put it down until the end. The action starts immediately and the story zooms from there.
I liked Gabby and Shane. They were multi-faceted characters. Gabby in particular is a strong character. I liked seeing more than one side of her personality.
The last few books I've reviewed have been a part of a series in which I haven't read the first books. Laura Scott did a nice job of creating a stand alone without compromising the 'update' of the previous characters in the series.
A couple of things to note; this book is a christian suspense romance. It's not a knock you up the side of the head religious overtone, but it's definitely noticeable. It is also fairly heavy on the suspense and lighter on the romance.
Forgotten Memories gave me couple of hours of quick, enjoyable escape. (Despite the bags under my eyes)
Rating:5 Stars Content: Kissing, moderate violence, no language Source: Netgalley
This story started extremely gripping, Gabriella is kidnapped at gunpoint and from that moment on I was hooked.
The main characters were wonderful and the suspense was intense. I thought, even though at times it was a bit much, that for the most part what was happening was all very believable.
The mystery was good, didn't figure it out, and the ending was great. Definitely recommended if you enjoyed Christian romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.
3 1/2 to 4; I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. It began and ended by defying the "formula" - instead of "hunk rescues maiden," the female protagonist was the type of person who (positively) puts the "punk" in "spunky." Unfortunately, she had a personality transplant in the middle of the book, and, there was a subplot I am going to have to reflect on to understand what it was doing as part.
Gabby is leaving the hospital after a 24 hour shift when she is abducted by 3 men right in the hospital parking lot. Shane is at the hospital to pick up some evidence, but sees the men take Gabby. He manages to follow them and help her escape, but who is after her and why? Can he keep her safe and figure out what is going on? There are a ton of twists and turns in this story.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The Christian ideals are woven into the story and don't seem to be just put in for effect. This series is an action packed set of Christian romances with complex characters and lots of twists and turns. If that sounds good to you, then get the series and enjoy!
Another great book!!! Another great romance, wrapped up in mystery and intrigue. It's amazing how Shane was able to show Gabby how freeing it was to trust God and form a relationship with Him during all the frightening happenings surrounding them.
Gabby saved Shane's life previously. He gets a chance to return the favor. As Gabby is chased by a killer, she has to face some things from her past. Really wonderful HEA.
The story started with a bang, intense action right from the beginning, and after that the book was hard to put down, until the end. There are several twists in the suspense part of the story, twist that kept the tension high, and the danger present and accounted for. Interesting theories, with little evidence, keeps the SWAT team's investigation focus on Gabby's past. The pressure is on the SWAT team, since the culprits don't seem to have much respect for human life, as dead bodies keep showing up. Shane is doing everything he can to keep Gabby well and alive. He has had feelings for her ever since they first met, and she saved his life. But can he trust the attraction between them, or is it only gratitude for keeping her safe? I liked how the romance was built between Shane and Gabby, the openness, honesty, and sharing his faith was refreshing. The fact that they talked about their feelings openly, made it real, and easy to relate to. I liked every aspect of the story, the events are timed well, the suspense and action are perilous, the romance believable and earnest, the faith they had in God, and how it was demonstrated, was reassuring and comforting ~ Five Spoons
I've read all of Laura Scott books, loved them all, and I have to say, Forgotten Memories might be my favorite book of hers yet. I first read about Gabriella Fielding and Shane Hawkins in Under The Lawman's Protection, where Gabby saved Shane's life, and I'm so glad both Shane and Gabby got their story. Forgotten Memories starts with danger when Gabriella Fielding is kidnapped at gunpoint, and the author keeps you turning pages. Gabby is exactly the type of heroine I like to read about - smart, brave, compassionate, but with some flaws that make it easy to relate to her. She overcame great odds to become an accomplished trauma surgeon. Shane is a cop who puts his life on the line to save others. He's a believer, and his faith is very strong, what helps Gabby to become a believer as well. Shane and Gabby have people who hurt them in the past, so they are reluctant to open their hearts again, but the attraction between them grows stronger and stronger... Meanwhile, they need to figure out who is after Gabby before it's too late. As all books in Laura Scott's excellent SWAT: Top Cops series, Forgotten Memories is highly recommended.
This is a fast-paced story about a doctor who is targeted by kidnappers and assassins, seemingly without reason. As the plot unfolds, we learn there is more to Gabby's past than even she realizes.
This is the second book I've read by Laura Scott, and even better than the first one I read. She's moving to my "Must Read" list.
"Gabriella is a strong, accomplished, independent heroine. The narrative is expressive and the characters genuine in this carefully plotted tale" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
Very good book! It starts with the kidnapping of a physicians and how SWAT cop Shawn rescued her. The author was able to keep you in suspense throughout the book. A must read for anyone who enjoys suspense with a little romance involved. I highly recommend this book.
