They say all’s Fayre in love and baking...

Spring has sprung, the bunting is up, and for the residents of the little Cotswold village of Beakley, this can only mean one thing: it’s time for the Beakley Spring Fayre.

Faced with a murderer with a possible penchant for top(ping) chefs, Chef Maurice must sift through the clues and weigh up the suspects—not to mention contending with a sous-chef with mummy issues, a food critic on a diet, and a bulletproof pudding—as he finds himself on the trail of a killer who’s not cooking by the rules...

Chef Maurice and Arthur are at it again, solving a murder in the Cotswolds during the annual Spring Fayre.

A famous tv chef comes to the village to be a judge in the annual baking contest. Unfortunately, it's her last day in the spotlight. Chef Maurice and Arthur must deal with blackmail and a variety of suspects- a local politician with a mistress, a controlling wife, a retiring headmistress, a scorned best friend among others. Chef Maurice also has to deal with his sous chef Patrick taking another position as does PC Lucy who is trying to convince her self it doesn't matter.

Hamilton, the micropig makes a delightful appearance along with the lovable characters who work at the restaurant.

While you may think you know "who did it", the ending will surprise you! Can't wait for the next adventure!

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review.

Not as funny as the first two but fantastic nonetheless! A celebrity chef presides over the village fair and is murdered shortly after.

The investigation takes us to a girl's school, which I loved, and the romance is super nice. I'm so disappointed it's the last in the series and the author doesn't seem to have posted anywhere since, it has amazing potential!

This series has been well worth the reading. While this particular book did not have me giggling quite as often as the other two, it did elicit a few good guffaws. The mystery itself was enjoyable and complex enough to keep your interest as the continuing romance between Lucy and Patrick adds a dimension of fun all its own.

It is not quite up to the standard of the first book, in particular, but this is still a thoroughly entertaining story. The humour is still there and all the characters are on top form, but the plot itself is a bit more convoluted and less satisfactory.

It is a pity there have been no more novels featuring Chef Maurice.

This whole series is like a box of bonbons, a metaphor I think Chef Maurice would appreciate. While this is the final entry, it left me hankering for more.

I hope author J.A. Lang will consider revisiting these characters again in further Chef Maurice adventures!

Same great characters and setting as the other two but in this third book in the series I did not like the plot or the resolution as much.

Review:

Death once again comes to Beakley village, and Chef Maurice is on the case. I love Chef Maurice.

Spring is in full bloom in the quaint Cotswold village of Beakley, and everyone is excited about the Spring Fayre and baking competition…except Chef Maurice. He has lost his spot at the judges table to celebrity “chef” Miranda Matthews. When Miranda is found dead at the fayre, it quickly becomes apparent that what skill she lacked in the kitchen she more than made up for in making enemies. Chef Maurice and his long-suffering best friend and food critic Arthur make it their mission to unmask the killer. Throw in some blackmail, a spurned ex-co-host, a head mistress with a secret, and the demise of domestic bliss, and you have a laugh-out-loud sweet romp.

There is nothing subtle or covert about Chef Maurice. He and Arthur blatantly insinuate themselves in the investigation. I can’t help but feel sorry for Constable Lucy, but I do wonder how far she would get on her own, especially since she is distracted by the prospect of sous chef Patrick leaving town. It is sometimes difficult to decide if Maurice is more help or hindrance.

There are plenty of suspects to consider and enough red herrings to keep me guessing, and second guessing, throughout. I will admit that the final “reveal” came as a bit of a surprise, a relatively rare occurrence in my reading. The characters are all quirky in their own ways and loveable. I could not help but root for Lucy and Patrick as they fumble through their romance. My only complaint is there was not enough Hamilton, the micro pig.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chef Maurice and the Bunny-Boiler Bake Off and recommend it to fans of the series and those looking for a light hearted, humorous cozy mystery.

I am so sad there are only three of these books in the series (so far???). I adore them. I got my mother reading them too.

A cozy mystery that is a fun read with lots of humour and characters that I enjoy spending time with. I chuckled out loud in a few places and just enjoyed a sick day afternoon curled up with this novel.

Chef Maurice and the Bunny-Boiler Bake Off by J.A. Lang
The Third Chef Maurice Mystery

It's time for the Beakley Spring Fayre and, much to Chef Maurice's dismay, a celebrity chef has not only been invited, but as taken his place on the judging panel of the Bake Off! As Chef Bonvivant and Chef Maurice join together in their condemnation of Miranda Mathews, celebrity chef, PC Lucy has to deal with meeting Patrick's mother...and entering one of her not quite edible cakes in the competition.

I'm thrilled to see Chef Maurice, Hamilton, and the rest of the gang back in action. These characters jump off the page. Their actions are so true that, even in the face of almost farcical situations, they remain utterly believable. I want to spend time with them, I want to get to know them better, I want Chef Maurice to cook me a meal! The Chef Maurice Mystery series is just plain fun and this book is no exception.

Chef Maurice and the Bunny-Boiler Bake Off is another delightful romp in the Cotswolds. Author J.A. Lang combines the quintessential British village life with the temperamental world of chefs and stirs in a first rate mystery to create a fantastic read.

FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it.

I just finished reading Chef Maurice and the Bunny-Boiler Bake Off (Chef Maurice Cotswold Mysteries Book 3) by J. A. Lang. We once again return to the quaint country village of Beakley to attend the Beakely Spring Fayre. We are also here to help Chef investigate the murder of a certain member of the Great Beakley Bake Off judging panel. Open this book and step back into the world and lives of some of my favorite literary characters. How nice to return and take a stroll up the village green with Chef Maurice and Arthur Wordington-Smythe. Step inside Le Cochon Rouge - the only restaurant in the sleepy little village of Beakley - and smell the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen. Cringe right alongside PC Lucy Gaviston as she tries to reel in and control Chef in all his investigative excitement. And Sous Chef Patrick has a big decision to make about his future.
Will you enjoy this book? "Exactement!"
This is the end of this series so far that has been published. I need to start reading a whole lot slower when I find a book that really excites me! These ended way too soon.
(I read that J. A. Lang has a sourdough starter named Bob. What a funny coincidence, my Mother had one named Kevin. Only kind of bread we were allowed to eat.)

Author J. A. Lang has penned the best Chef Maurice book yet! Her first two books in this series were so wonderful, I wouldn’t have thought it was possible to improve on them, but she has, and done so brilliantly!

In CHEF MAURICE AND THE BUNNY-BOILER BAKE OFF, Chef Maurice finds himself in the middle of another murder. As if he doesn’t already have his hands full with running his restaurant, Le Cochon Rouge, dealing with his sous-chef who is having personal issues, and all his other responsibilities, he’s also on the hunt for a killer.

Ms. Lang is a wonderful writer who brings a unique voice to her characters. Chef Maurice is a breath of fresh air to the traditional mystery genre, yet he also has the feel of a classic Christie character. With humor, intrigue, and food descriptions that will make your stomach growl, the author draws you in on page one and doesn’t loosen her hold until the last page.

Readers are in for a real treat with CHEF MAURICE AND THE BUNNY-BOILER BAKE OFF. If you haven’t read any of this series yet, do yourself a favor and also grab copies of CHEF MAURICE AND A SPOT OF TRUFFLE and CHEF MAURICE AND THE WRATH OF GRAPES! You’re going to love them!

I have one request to make of J. A. Lang…recipes please!!!

I love this series! The Bunny Boiler Bake Off is the third installment in the Chef Maurice series. These books are really so much fun and they get better and better.

Patrick and Lucy's relationship is progressing, and if you read the last book, you know they were having some issues. Chef Maurice has again found himself in the middle of a murder investigation when another celebrity chef is found dead.

The victim, Chef Miranda seemed to have a lot of enemies, so finding her killer is not an easy task, even for Chef Maurice. Just when things start pointing to one person, then something happens to send you on a different direction.

Miranda is just not a nice person, she's got an ex, a former co-worker and a few other people that just might want to end her existence.

I always love how well Ms Lang keeps you from figuring out all the particulars of the mystery until the very end, and this installment is no different.

I loved this book and this series.

My only gripe, is there's not enough with Hamilton. There can never be enough Hamilton. There is an awesome scene about the Hog Roast at the Fayre which will bring about quite a few giggles.

Highly recommended!

It's Spring in the Cotswold village of Beakley and that means it's time for the Beakley Spring Fayre. Chef Maurice is very unhappy to have lost his seat on the judging table to celebrity chef Miranda Mathews and warns of dire consequences to the judges if he is not on the panel to save them. And unfortunately, he's right. Miranda is found floating and it's up to Chef Maurice (in his mind anyway) to help PC Lucy find the murderer and save the day. And if the murder wasn't enough to keep him busy, Chef also has to worry about whether or not one of his staff is going to leave him for another restaurant.

Another great story of Chef Maurice and his friends! I have really enjoyed this series, it's funny with twists and turns and some really great characters. I was surprised by the killer in this one, I really thought it was another person but, that's the fun of mysteries, isn't it? To try to figure out the killer and be surprised or not in the end hehe!

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It's the day of the Beakley Spring Fayre and Chef Maurice has been removed from the baked-goods judging panel. Taking his place is the celebrity "chef", Miranda Matthews, who is friends with a member of the Fayre planning committee. While Miranda may lack skills as a cook, she is certainly gifted in making enemies. When she is found murdered, Chef Maurice is soon on the case with his best-friend, Arthur, a professional food critic.

I absolutely adore this series. The returning characters are so lovable. The story moves at a great pace and the mystery is well-developed. There are plenty of clues scattered through the story as well as red-herrings. Once the criminal is revealed all of the ends are wrapped up, and the reader can feel that justice has been served. I'm usually pretty good at guessing the murderer fairly early in the book, but here I had a couple of potential suspects until close to the end.

One thing I really enjoy about Lang's writing is that it makes me laugh, and I love a mystery writer who can use humor effectively.

I am a Big fan of Chef Maurice and Arthur.
Patrick and his Beau also make the book a lovable read.

The 3rd edition starts nicely with Maurice fighting for a seat as a judge in the Spring Fayre.
A celebrity is invited to the fayre and gets herself killed.
Chef Maurice Being a Noble citizen decides to unearth the killer :).

The plot thickens with rivalry for renting a old building to something sinister as blackmailing.
And voila in the end MR Chef finds the killer.

I somehow knew who the killer by the time I finished 50% of the book. I did not know the reason though.
Any case that did not spoil the fun for me , I still liked the book.
I loved the chemistry between Patrick and Lucy and also the angle created by Patrick's mother.

The only thing which makes me give rating of 3 is that, this book was not as great as first two and its becoming little predictable in jokes and other things

I give this book a 3/5 and would recommend everyone .

This is another fun installment in the series. Chef Maurice is a force unto himself once he has begun investigating, nothing will deter him. And of course, he cannot investigate on an empty stomach. Arthur is particularly grateful for that since his wife has put him on a diet.

The mystery moves along fast enough. The only thing I felt was a drawback was that more wasn't done with PC Lucy and Patrick's mother. The synopsis makes out like the bulletproof pudding Lucy makes is a big plot point, but it disappears much to Lucy's relief. And Hamilton only had a cameo appearance. I'm guessing due to his increased girth he is no longer quite the portable micro-pig.

I liked that I couldn't guess who the killer was right up until the end. I had it all wrong.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Chef Maurice is in the middle of yet another murder mystery. I love reading this series, and this installment reinforces that feeling. Chef, his employees, their friends and family--all the characters are fun and personable. The mystery is very well written, and the identity of the murderer totally surprised me.

I was glad to see Chef's pig, Hamilton, back in this book, as I think he is adorable! I'm also enjoying the development of the relationship between Patrick and PC Lucy.

This book provides plenty of twists and turns, and has a great deal of suspense and action. If you haven't met these folks yet, I hope you will get to know them soon.

Chef Maurice and his food critic friend, Arthur Wordington-Smythe, return in their third hilarious adventure. It's springtime in the Cotswolds and time for the Beakley Spring Fayre that features a bake-off contest. Chef Maurice is rather grumpy because his spot as judge has been taken by a TV celebrity cook named Miranda Matthews. Then Miranda is murdered and Chef Maurice learns that there are many suspects who didn't like the woman. The plot twists and turns as he follows clues and in true Maurice fashion he arrives at the conclusion. I didn't see it coming.

I've become very fond of this series and eagerly await the next book.

Chef Maurice also has a few other things to worry about as well, when someone makes an offer to one of his staff. This is a fun read, full of twists and turns! I love all of the characters in this series, and each book is like visiting old friends. I look forward to their next adventure!

Another fun, cozy tale in this series. The characters continue to lovably develop, stories continue to be inventive, and the sweets continue to roll as, in this three-quel, Chef Maurice and his motley band of food warriors solve yet another mysterious death in their quaint little corner of England. A well written, comical, and successful gem in J.A. Lang's crown.

Chef Maurice and the Bunny-Boiler Bake Off was quite funny and enjoyable to read. The pace was good. There were a couple twists that were well done. I highly recommend it for a mind vacation sort of read. You do not have to read the other two Chef Maurice books for this one to make sense.
