This book is about a psychopath whose daughter dies in a fire while not far way another daughter is struggling to come to terms with her fathers death. Their paths cross and the psychopath is convinced that his daughter did not die and he has found her alive and well. He has a plan to never lose her again. The story sounds like Audrey Rose, The Collector and even The Silence of the Lambs. I have not read any of those books so no comparison to make.
The book was well written and I enjoyed the story and pace. There is a reveal at the end but nothing major as the psychopath was a psychopath from the start. The loss of his daughter did not make him a psychopath. He was always mean, horrible and nasty. Can his kidnapped "daughter" change him? Can she turn him into a better person. She realises that she must play the role of his daughter if she is to escape.
An enjoyable read which I found in one of my regular second hand bookshops.
Perhaps because it was raining outside the whole week that I read it was the reason why I liked it as much as I did. Kinda cliche, and not very popular, but it was a fast read and it kept my attention. Interesting.
