It is never a good sign when I struggle throughout an entire book because I can't tolerate one of the two main characters. In this book that person was Ericka, the heroine. I thought she was a very poor main character and I disliked her all the way through. She was a very difficult heroine for me to warm up to and I never did.

The one positive was that I fell in love with Gervais, our hero. It was too bad he didn't have a better heroine to play his counterpart. That could have made all the difference. It just all fell apart for me. She was on my last nerve from page one and it really didn't get any better until the last page and a half. There was hardly any amount of happiness in this story so the ending, while an HEA, just didn't do it for me.

It seemed Erika's every thought and comment throughout the entire book was repeated over and over. The redundancy drove me mad until I wanted to scream and call her unkind names. Their relationship was too one-sided and I felt so sorry for Gervais. I felt badly for him because she shot down everything he said. The story stalled in a couple of places and moved slowly in others. There was so much negativity out of our heroine that I simply did not care for this book.

Good book. Gervais and Erika met at a soccer match in England and had a passionate weekend together. But Erika has plans for her life that don't include an affair with a hot American, so she ignores his attempts to contact her afterward. Then she discovers she is pregnant and has no choice but to let him know.

The first meeting between Erika and Gervaise gives a good feel for what their personalities are like. Erika is there representing her family. She's not happy about it and it shows. Her mind is on her own plans for her future. She is about to leave her career in her country's military, something she did against her family's wishes. Thanks to their interference she wasn't allowed to do the job she wanted to do, so she is preparing to follow her dreams on her own. Her plans are to become a nurse practitioner and she is set to begin. Gervaise is there checking out the stadium because his football team will be playing there. His family has their reputation but he's determined to make his own place in the world. The team that he owns is his and all his efforts are placed on achieving his goals. That isn't to say he isn't interested in a brief fling with Erika, because he is. Her independence intrigues him, as does her lack of interest in the sport that runs his life.

Two months later Erika shows up in New Orleans to tell Gervaise that she's pregnant and find out if he wants to be part of the baby's life. Her intent is to tell him her news, then continue with her plans, expecting nothing of him. But that isn't Gervaise's way of doing things. He immediately proposes marriage, which she refuses just as quickly. He's not going to give up, and talks her into staying two weeks so they can get to know each other, and he has a chance to change her mind.

I liked Erika, but she also frustrated me. She developed her independence and stubbornness because of her family's tendency to try to run her life. I loved seeing her go after what she wanted in spite of their meddling. However, with her pregnancy, especially after they found out it was twins, I felt like she should have been a little more open to options. Every time Gervaise made a suggestion she would shoot it down immediately. She was so determined to hang on to her independence that she wasn't thinking about her pregnancy's effect on Gervaise and his life at all.

I really liked Gervaise. He's ready to step up the minute he hears that Erika is pregnant. He has experience with the kind of man who doesn't, as his father has quite the philanderer's reputation and he doesn't want that for himself. He understands her goals and he doesn't ask her to give them up, just alter their timing a little bit. I loved his protectiveness and how he tried to do everything he could think of to get her to stay. I really liked that he tries not to push her to give in, but gives her the space she says she needs.

As the visit goes on and they get to know each other, the passion grows into more. Erika slowly realizes that she doesn't want to be wanted just because she's pregnant and it's the right thing, she wants to be loved for herself. She's afraid of risking her heart so she doesn't tell Gervaise how she feels. Meanwhile, Gervaise doesn't want to drive her away by confessing feelings that he thinks she doesn't want to hear about. It doesn't help when her entire family shows up, adding their own special brand of pressure. I have to say that I didn't like them much, except for one surprising conversation with her oldest sister, Astrid. I loved the ending and seeing them finally opening up to each other.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series and seeing what happens with Gervaise's brothers.

Gervais Reynaud is the rich owner of a football team. Erika Mitras is a Nordic princess (although the royal line is technically defunct) eager to make more of her life than being a pretty ornament. They have a hot weekend together in the UK before going their separate ways. Until Erika turns up in New Orleans to announce to Gervais that she is pregnant! She agrees to move into his palatial home for a couple of weeks so that they can get to know each other better, and see how they should go about raising their children together. Of course, how would falling in love affect all this?

How refreshing! A heroine who doesn't hide the paternity of her child! A hero who isn't afraid to love or have children! You don't often find such things in category romance! Rather, the story is about how two reasonable adults navigate the reality of being forever connected to one another by children, and how that might work, with the added complications of genuine feelings developing between them. No silly artificial drama conspiring to keep them apart, and the characters are easy to get behind.

A few things bothered me. Firstly, why is it always twins? If real life were anything like category romance, the world would be overrun with twins! They would band together to take over humanity! Seriously, though, does every surprise or unexpected pregnancy have to result in twins in these books? However, what bugged me the most was Gervais' insistence on getting Erika to marry him, saying they would only have to be together for a year. Huh? This makes absolute zero sense to me. Is it because he doesn't want the children to be born out of wedlock? Is this another category author who still thinks we're back in the 1950s? In this day and age, it is perfectly normal and acceptable for a child/children to be brought up by unmarried parents. Or single parents. Or whatever family unit system they have in place. So long as they are loved! And since both Erika and Gervais were both on board and ready to love and support their children, I didn't see what the problem was.

But I'm getting all political! This was a strange mix of more level-headed than usual protagonists, along with a smattering of the same tired romance tropes. I liked the main characters, but ultimately it was all a bit too short and sweet for me to feel any real dramatic punch!

Posted on What I'm Reading

Well, His Pregnant Princess Bride was an all right read. Okay, I struggle with the princess. Erika frustrated me to know end. I was afraid I would crack a tooth, because I was grinding so hard on my frustration on Erika. Don't get me wrong I get that she wants to be independent and thought as her own person. Understand that, and I understand that she didn't want to be under her parents thumb. Her title as a princess was kind of like a curtesy title, because they didn't really rule the land. However, I saw her self more times than not. When she found out that she was pregnant she wanted to continue on the path she set out for herself with no regard to others. I liked that she wanted to be nurse practitioner, but she was kind to Gervais hey I'm going to do my own thing, I'm pregnant too. Ahhhhh!

I adore Gervais, because he wanted to be a standup guy and be part of her life, but she wanted him to stay at arms length. I liked that he straight up told her he wanted to be in the babies life which kind put a damper on her plans, but at the same time she was going to press forward with her plans with no regard towards his feeling. Yes, I had the urge throat punched her when she shut Gervais down. I mean he could have been a dick and said I want nothing to do with the kid be gone. No, he was like not going to happen. So, he set out a plan to try to win her at any cost. WOOT! Fortunately, she's going to have a complicated pregnancy, which had to rethink her plan.

Overall, His Pregnant Princess Bride was an all right read. I struggle with Erika till the bitter end, but I adore Gervais for standing up and try to take care of his unborn child. We get a glimpse of his brothers here and there and I'm curious to see what happens with them.

His Pregnant Princess Bride is really a great quick read. I love Catherine Mann's books and this one was no exception. Erika is an exceptional heroine. She's strong and smart and really no nonsense.

She has a fling with Gervais when he was in London a few months prior and she ends up pregnant. In an uncharacteristic move for a Desire Heroine, she actually tells Gervais that she's pregnant. Gervais immediately offers to marry her and she refuses.

I liked how Gervais works to convince her to marry him, and prove there is more to their relationship than sex. I also liked that he wasn't really an alpha male, at least in the usual Harlequin standard of alpha male. Actually if Gervais were alpha, so was Erika, which is really awesome.

My only gripe was about the football team Gervais owns. The story is set in New Orleans. There's already an NFL team there. I'm not a huge sports fan, but I have a hard time when contemporary fiction messes with reality. I would have been ok with this being an arena football team, but The Saints are New Orleans.

That didn't change that I loved the characters and the storyline in general. Another thing that I liked about this book was the lack of the conflict that causes one character to do something stupirud that makes the other run away. It was more an action that caused a wake up moment and boom love, which was really there all along.

This was a fabulous read!

His Pregnant Princess Bride is one of my favorite titles of all time. Course that could be because I am a die-hard Princess Bride fan and that reference immediately takes me to a happy place. I do admit a mild disappointment that author Catherine Mann didn’t manage to work in an “As you wish” reference. This series starter for the new Bayou Billionaires series by Mann and Joanne Rock is everything you want in a series launch. You nominally meet all the remaining heroes and the family dynasty is clearly laid out. Even with those requirements, Mann manages to focus the story on Gervais and Erika. Though I enjoyed reading the story the first time through, I really liked Erika more after reading the second book in the series. She is a Nordic princess and her icy demeanor is hard to break through. She thaws out some in the second book when the focus isn’t directly on her. Mann plots a believable and heartwarming love story that keeps pages turning quickly. Erika and Gervais make a great couple and I love the family dynamics. I can’t wait to see the rest of the Reynaud dynasty fall.

Gervais meets Erika while in London, and they spend a magical weekend together. Neither one expects to see the other again. Then she shows up a couple months later in New Orleans, to see him.

Erika is afraid of what this pregnancy means for her and her child's future. Gervais just wants to take care of them both. Maybe see where the future is headed? There may be more family complications once the extended families are told...

Gervais is fiercely protective of his child and its mother. He vows no one will take them from him. After a near tragedy occurs, he discovers his feelings may go much deeper than he thought.

Such a moving and compelling story. Really good read that I could not put down. Touching and sincere, it has moments that moved me.

Another cover wins me over. I love this cover, but unfortunately I didn't love the story.

Erika was really tough to like with her indecisiveness. Disappointed nothing really got resolved by the end other than their feelings.

Gervais Reynaud owner of New Orleans Hurricanes football team & Princess Erika Mirtas a Nordiac Princess meet during a soccer game at Wembley Stadium, where Gervais was previewing the stadium due to his team having a pre-season exhibition game. After spending a weekend together of amazing mind-blowing sex, Gervais doesn't hear from Erika, who never answerd any of his calls, until almost 3 months when she walks onto his practice field. The news she is about to tell him will rock his world, that he is going to be a father. Erika had just planned on telling Gervais he was going to be a father, to see if he wanted to be an active father& walk away, but Gervais had other plans. After Erika turns down his marriage proposal, he ask her to stay with him for 2 weeks to get to know each other & after those 2 weeks they would re-evaluate the situation. Will Erika change her mind after 2 weeks or will she take his babies & leave.
" I thought I asked you to join me for gumbo not sex. But now that we're talking about sex-"

Gervais is loyal, protective & will do anything to keep Erika & his childen with him. After having a father like he did makes him more determined to do that, if it means grade A romance Erika will get grade A romance. But he is determined to be a full-time responible father. But Erika has plans of her own she wants to go back to school an be a nurse practioner & marriage isn't in the cards for her especially to a man who only wants to marry her cause she is having his children. Boy does Gervais have his hands full trying to convince this stubborn, proud woman that their is more to their relationship than sex.

"Thank you, my brother. That means a lot to me. But this my child. Not some mistake, Not just a responsiblity. My child."

This is the first book of the Bayou Billionaires series with Catherine Mann & Joanne Rock. Also this is my first read by Catherine Mann and I can tell you it will not be my last. This was a touching , sincere, moving book, I just couldn't put it down. Catherine has me wanting to read the rest of the Bayou Billionaires to find out about Gervais & Erika's babies. I can not wait to read about Dempsey, Henri & to hear about the mysterious Jean-Pierre. You will not regret picking this book up, but beware, make sure you have a few hours you will not be interrupted, you will not be able to put it down.

"His Pregnant Princess Bride" by Catherine Mann. We meet Erika and Gervais in this tale of a whirlwind fling that has lasting consequences. I liked Gervais - he's a hard worker that wants to prove he's a good guy. And he is! He is a bit stuffy but when he lets his guard down, he's uber sexy. Erika was an ok character for me - she frustrated me often. She is quite stubborn and her resistance to Gervais became a bit annoying after a bit. Despite that, there were many qualities that I did like about her - she's independent and knows what she wants in life. The story line was a bit predictable but enjoyable just the same. I did like the secondary characters, especially Leon. I hope in future books of the series, we learn more about him. This is a pleasant read that didn't take too long - it's just what you need to take your mind off of everyday life for a lttle bit. (received copy for honest review).

Boring. Dialogue was stilted. DNF around 50%. Couldn't even bother to read the end, just couldn't care for Erika and her refusal to hear and think on his suggestions. Back to the thrift store where hopefully someone will like it.z

I just couldn't do this one.

I didn't realize it was a sports book/series going into but whatever. But I couldn't get past the cringiness of the prologue. The whole "American Royalty" and the long standing family plantation (slave owing) house. The hero just came off as douchy from the get go. It didn't get any better when he found out she was pregnant. He never really seemed to even like her. Not in the prologue and not when she visits him in NOLA. Of course he insists on marriage because she's pregnant with a promised divorce in a year so there wouldn't be any scandal for his family.

I couldn't connect to the heroine either. She was raised a certain way and that made sense and I could see how it made her lock her true self inside. I feel like she never could be her true self with him either. They just weren't a good fit couple and character wise.

I also found it odd that he owned the NFL team, his older brother coached it and 2 brothers played.

I don't think I'll be finishing this series.

I enjoyed this romance. I received this for free and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given it a 4* rating. The heroine in this goes back and forth so much, it's hard for anyone to tell what she will do. In the meantime the hero is almost clueless in what she wants to make her happy. Once she allows him to talk more, they finally find out. Interesting couple. A little bit too much sexual scenes for my taste but good story.

A good easy read. A good romance, a little different from most, but still a typical romance. I did enjoy it. A one time hookup results in an unexpected pregnancy. Can they decide on a way to raise the child together or separately.

The first book in the Bayou Billionaires series about four sexy (and rich) Louisiana brothers by Catherine Mann and Joanna Rock, His Pregnant Princess Bride gets the series off to a solid start.

Princess Erika Birgitta Inger Freya Mitras of Holsgrof (sadly, the monarchy has been defunct for more than 45 years) and football team owner and billionaire Gervais Reynaud spent one memorable weekend in London a little more than two months ago. It's about to become a whole lot memorable for both of them, because Erika's got some surprising news. That infamous 12% condom failure rate statistic? Yeah, it's about to change both of their lives forever.

Erika, the youngest of five royal princesses, has been struggling for years to reconcile what she wants to do with her life with what her overbearing family will allow her to do. She joined the military; she hoped to be a field nurse, but instead was placed in a translator position. Her plans after service are to become a nurse practitioner; her family's less than thrilled, but she's already been accepted into a program in London, England. That was before finding out she's carrying twins, however...now, she's promised Gervais she'll give him two weeks at his home in New Orleans. Two "getting to know you" weeks, after which they'll decide what they're going to do.

Gervais had tried to contact Erika after their amazing weekend together, but was ignored and finally gave up. Now he's determined to show her and the rest of the world that he's nothing like his philandering father. He wants to be there for both her and their children. He offers to marry her when he finds out her secret, though at first it's more of a business arrangement than anything else, despite his strong attraction to her. Erika, however, keeps turning him down...

There aren't a whole lot of surprises in the storyline--the main conflict can and finally is fixed with some simple communication (just at about the time I was ready to shout just talk to each other already! to my ereader, they did!)--instead it's the characters that really make the book. I liked both Erika and Gervais--they're a cute couple, and it's easy to root for them to finally get their act together--but really, it's the rest of the Reynaud brothers and their strong family bond that make the book. As soon as I reached the final page of this one, I added the next three brothers' books to my TBR. I'm definitely looking forward to watching them all get to their own HEAs.

And hopefully we're not going to have to wait for book four to finally meet Erika and Gervais's children! ;)

This book is a Harlequin Desire and very short. But don’t let that fool you; a Catherine Mann book is wonderful no matter where you find it or how long it is.

In spite of its length, Catherine Mann does a wonderful job of developing her characters. All of them have dimension and very real emotions – even though Erika is a princess. Even though the plot is simple, it is still very well developed.

Erika Mitras and Gervais Reynaud meet in the United Kingdom where Gervais is previewing a stadium facility. Princess Erika is in the military and is taking a short break from her duty. They like each other, so they attend a soccer game together.

Two and a half months later, when Princess Erika comes to New Orleans to see Gervais, it is obvious that they had done much more than watch soccer. Erika is pregnant. Gervais does the gentlemanly thing and proposes marriage. This is the conflict of the story. Erika does not want to marry just because of the baby, and Gervais does not want his child to be raised without a father.

This difference occurs because Erika and Gervais have very different backgrounds. Gervais comes from an athletic family, and he is the owner of the New Orleans Hurricanes football team. On the other hand, Erika doesn’t understand football and hates all sports.

Gervais has two brothers and one half brother who are all involved in football. Even though their father was never around, and they were all raised by their grandmother, the brothers are very close to each other.
Erika is the youngest of five girls who are all princesses to a monarchy that has been defunct for twenty-five. Since her parents are over-protective she joins the military to become her own person. She and her sisters are not close because they are married with lots of children, and she is single

This book chronicles Gervais’ actions as he tries to convince Erika to marry him. It also includes Erika’s reasons for not wanting to marry him. However, most of all, it follows Erika and Gervais’ journey as they fall in love with each other.

After reading longer and, often, darker books with complex plots, I find that it is necessary to take a break from those kinds of books. For these breaks I like to read fun books which are shorter, happier and simpler. However, I still insist that these books be well-written with developed characters and interesting plots. During these breaks, I also like lots of romance and very light conflict. His Pregnant Princess Bride fits my needs perfectly.

I love Catherine Mann's books. This is the first time I have been able to review a book of hers. And I was really happy to be able to have that chance. This book brings together two of my favorite things, princesses and babies.

I have to say Princess Erika was one of the harder characters to a read on. And what I mean by that is it took awhile to warm up to her character. She was a bit standoffish and guarded at first. But I warmed up to her when she started opening up.

I really enjoyed Gervais. He was sweet, caring, loving, successful and sexy. You could tell how much he wanted to be a part of his children's lives.

I got this book just at the right time. The last few weeks I had been reading books that had been dark. So it was nice to be able to read something that was lighter and on the sweeter side. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. And even enjoyed the secondary characters.

I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars and can't wait to read more in this series.

I have to say this book surprised me. It was recommended
read that I should like. I thought okay I’ll give it a shot, and
I have to tell you I am so glad that I did. This book was really
good read. I mean real good. I love our heroine Princess
Erika; she is not your typical princess. She could literally
knock you on your ass if she wanted to. I love that she is
though and not prim and proper. I loved the reason her sister
said they put her on the trampoline first. You’ll have to read
to find out. And then there is Gervais, He is not the typical
Billionaire either. He may have been born into money, but
he is down to earth and believes you should work for your
pay. And why he has his own football team. I love how he
decides to woo the princess to get her to marry him. And
man does he have his work cut out for him. Now before
I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy
this book as much as I did. If you do like this book,
please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like
it when you do, they value your opinions too.

4 1/2 STARS!

A sweet romance about an instant connection that turns into a long-lasting one. You have a Princess and a billionaire … yet they are both so down-to-earth and kind that you can’t help but relate to them immediately. I really enjoyed their story!

Gervais Reynaud, owner of the New Orleans Hurricane NFL team, is abroad visiting Wembley Stadium when he meets Princess Erika Mitras. They get to talking and he decides to delay his return home and invite her to dinner. They share a weekend together, then each return to their own lives.

A few months later, Erika surprises Gervais with a visit. She’s there to tell him that she’s pregnant with his baby … only they shortly find out it’s babies!

Will Gervais be able to convince her that they have something special together and they should plan to raise their children together, or will she stay rigid in her plans to return home?

His Pregnant Princess Bride, Book 1 Bayou Billionaire series by Catherine Mann is the start of the Reynaud Family stories that covers: Brothers, Billionaires, Sports-Football, and different ways to find love. Catherine Mann and Joanne Rock are each writing two of the books in this 4 book Harlequin Desire series.
Gervais Reynaud, CEO of the Reynaud Family companies, meets Princess Erika Mitras in London and had a one night tryst that they both walked away from with very little regrets. Or so they both believe. A baby changes this.
Catherine Mann starts the information about the Reynaud Family and the unexpected feeling that Gervais and Erika must deal with as they get to know each other. I really loved the story and start of this series. This is a must read series about a interesting set of brothers and the issues they have from their childhood. I am looking forward to the rest of the Bayou Billionaires series.

A very enjoyable read. I read it in one sitting so if you're looking for a quick read this will be perfect. I was snared right away because Gervais owns a football team. I'm a football fan. I like Erika because she's an independent woman who knows what she wants.
