Is love enough to pull two drowning men back from the edge of darkness?
No one will love you. Tek Ng has heard that statement his entire life, and after all he’s been through, he believes it. The tortured reality of who he is wars with everything else in his world. He’s got a fiancée he doesn’t want, a family legacy he wants to escape, and unrequited love so unavoidable he descends into sexual depravity with the last person he should. Tek is drowning, but he’s not sure he wants to be saved. Quinn Storm hides in his quiet house, afraid of his shadow and his memories. At one time he had a husband and a life, but that was snatched away in a violent attack. Hardly daring to live, Quinn is alive only because he’s too scared to end it all himself. He’s drowning and wants no chance at being saved. A favor for a friend brings these two men together just in time for Tek to watch Quinn unravel. Quinn quickly becomes the most important thing in Tek’s life, but can he trust Quinn to love him once he realizes what Tek is hiding? Just as they reach for each other, their reprieve is shattered by Tek’s demons, leaving Quinn with the realization that he’s not the only one in need of saving.

A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Stone Mountain, GA., with a tolerant Spousal Equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing plot points of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother
Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.
This might be my least favourite Avril book ever. There’s just something about it that doesn’t ring true or it could be that lead couple don’t sizzle like they should be doing.
Tek Ng he hardcore but he also likes the prettier things in life. He loves women’s clothing but the world he rolls in doesn’t allow him to be who he truly is. So he does it behind closed doors and for shady ass Stavros (wow what a bag of dicks he was and not the good kind). He lost his parents to things he likes so when he dons his dresses he hates the girl looking back at him.
Quinn has been through some shit and he’s still dealing with it (what is it with these men and not getting serious professional help). So when Tek invades his space, Quinn is just one breath away from losing his shit. But Tek is the pushy type and suddenly he’s not only invading Quinn’s home he’s also taking up space in his head and heart.
Cue man pain and extraness and Watch Me Save You is a wrap....but seriously though I’m wondering why I didn’t love this like I should.
Reason 1- Tek’s love of women clothing wasn’t an intricate part of the story. I needed it to be more in there than just something his ass broods about. I would have loved more of that.
Reason 2- Quinn went from barely being able to function to out there living his best life. Man just Jekyll and Hyde his own freaking story.
Reason 3- I didn’t buy their freaking romance. It was too quick even for Avril Ashton’s norm. They felt rushed and not fleshed out as individuals and less so as a couple.
Overall, didn’t hate it but not the best in the bunch. Highlight was my mans dem Dima and X making a cameo. If I love Dima one more time 😍😍😍
There had to be a rotten one in the bunch eh? They all couldn't be fivers. And believe me, I was really disappointed that this book and me didn't come together in beautiful harmony. Tek was one of the characters I was most looking forward to reading about. He continued to be a complete mystery in all three books. I actually really liked him. His story was heartbreaking as I figured it would be. I didn't have issues with his character or his story. Quinn is where the majority of my issues lye. Is it just me or did he in the end turn out to be quite different then he started out to be? Now I don't mean like he was broken and found strength and changed in that way. Because he did. Characters grow and change in a book. What I am talking about is like a personality switch. He was vulnerable and had this isolated way about him because of his past trauma. But then he got him a taste of Tek and he just flipped his role. He seemed like a complete different character. Now he's jumping on planes where he couldn't even leave the house. Now he's all about being a bossy top and giving out orders where before he panicked just by being touched or having someone close to him. It was like I got whiplash how quickly his character jumped. What really didn't work for me was how heavy the book was. I got hit with a double wammy with both men being broken and in need of healing. It was just too much for me in one book. I needed some reprieve from all that darkness. It never really lightened up so it was depressing as hell. I know you have to be in the mood for this type and I guess I thought I could handle it, but I was wrong. I guess I am not made for both of my MC's to be broken. At least not this damn broken all in one book. I loved Tek and was confused by Quinn. I did enjoy their more intimate moments together. I loved how Quinn made Tek feel accepted and loved as he was.
Still enjoying this author and will continue with this series and her others.
I was very excited about this release, having met Quinn in the first book of the series. Unfortunately, I can't say this is my favorite book of the author.
Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe I kept comparing it to the previous book, (Watch Me) Unmask You which was perfection or maybe it was just me (probably, considering all the great reviews). I can't exactly pinpoint the reason.
The start was amazing and very promising. Yes, the angst is too much but this is expected considering how screwed up both men are. BUT, I felt that somewhere in the middle of the story, Quinn stopped being the same man he was. In the first half he kept pushing Tek away, he was always scared and isolated. And then, when he has sex with Tek for the first time, he suddenly becomes all confident and bossy.
And what's up with using Xavier's tone of voice to make Tek all hot and bothered? And how many times can a person use the word "sugar" as a pet name?
I have to say that I absolutely loved the crossdressing theme here. Very interesting take on the matter.
So, I may not enjoyed it as much as the others, but I'll definately read the next one. How the hell will you pull this off miss Ashton? Can't wait to see;)
I don't know how I feel about this one fully. I've been waiting on Tek's story since he came into the picture. This is going to be spoiler free. I can say I'm surprised about the roles reversal between Quinn & Tek. I am extremely happy that Tek found someone whom he can be himself to fully. I loved that little gem surrounding him. Ugh just give me a little of Dima, why don't you. Glad to see him as well as some old faces, and new ones. WTH about the ending though. I'm happy Mrs. A decided to have a new series surrounding Dutch hopefully. I'm begging for Dutch to get a book or something.
This one was a little bit more plot driven then the rest. I liked how this one coincided with the last book. It's nice to see the story play out from both directions. I'm so happy Quinn was able to do better for himself and his love. I feel like we have more to see regarding Renzo & Low. Am I asking too much for a Syren sighting. This just makes me want to go re-read his book for the 15th time if that. I liked how this book summed up most of the lost ties surrounding book 2 & 3. I'm looking forward to more from Mrs. A as usual!
My friend Ele and I decided to console ourselves and do a buddy read because...
everyone ran off to GRL without us. So really what's a girl to do besides grab a friend and read about some seriously messed up sexy men!
'(Watch Me) Save You' is book 4 in Avril Ashton's 'Run This Town' series and right off the bat the first thing I'm going to say is this is not a stand alone book if you haven't read the first 3 books I honestly can't imagine truly enjoying this book. The characters and storylines are so interwoven and tied together that to try and do so would definitely leave the reader missing a whole lot of relevant background information.
Quinn Storm is the ex-husband of Xavier Storm, whom we met in the first book. Tek is a friend of Elias Kote's, we met him in book 3 and Elias figures very prominently in Tek's story as does Israel Storm, who is Xavier's cousin and one of the MCs from the second book. Then we have Stavros Konstantinou and he's a real charmer...NOT!!! But he is the scum of the earth and just like all good bad pennies he keeps turning up, over and over and over again and he is a very prominent player in this story. So to really appreciate and understand book 4 you need to go back to the beginning, but I'm not going to do that.
'Run This Town' for me isn't so much a series about bad men as it is a story about men who are doing what they have to, to get by and protect the people they care about. It's not about the black and white of life but all the shades of grey that are in between.
The plotlines in these stories at times can get a bit convoluted but ultimately they work and I really enjoy not always knowing where the author is taking us and thinking we should have zigged when she zagged.
I honestly can't decided whether I liked book one or this one the best but then I don't honestly need to pick so I loved them both and I'm definitely on board to see what comes next.
Ele, if you want to do a buddy read for the next one, just give me a shout. Especially if it's going where we think it might be.
By the way Ms Ashton I saw what you did there sliding in some of the characters from your Sinners series. That was cool and I wouldn't be disappointed if it happened again.
4.5 stars rounded down to 4 here on GR because damn, still no half stars anywhere to be found.
I saw some reviews of this book that said Tek was going to annoy the ever living crap out of me with his antics but because I was on a mission to read all of Avril's series' in order, I couldn't well skip it like I was tempted to.
The verdict is in and I'm glad I decided to read this and not listen to those reviews because they were way off base for me.
Sure, I respect people's opinions and not everyone is going to have the same reading experience but for this book, I'll advise you to read it first to you make up your own mind.
It was so worth it for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
First thing you need to know is that both Quinn and Tek were very, very messed up. Quinn because of the tragic things done to him and Tek because of the messed up environment he grew up in. Both had self-loathing in spades and couldn't find a way out of the darkness. Unfortunately, they turned to self destructive coping mechanisms to handle their pain/despair/fear/self-loathing.
Their way to each other was filled with super intense moments, feelings coming at you from all sides, decisions that will make you want to pull on your hair and a chemistry so explosive that I had to pause at times and stare in wonder.
Avril Ashton did her thing with this book and the series as a whole. Go read it.
PS: Stavros showed here why people hated him. Heck, I've read "Call the Coroner" , enjoyed him in that book . But in this I FINALLY understood why he got those reactions and found him so despicable in this book. Ugh. All I can say I'm glad he got all that he got from Daniel. He needed that shake up.
This book definitely had me glued to the pages, but I really wanted a little bit more from Quinn and Teks healing. These two men are the most broken, defeated men I have ever read about and because of that I was so looking forward to the moment they found comfort and some hope in each other. This absolutely did happen but....it wasn't as good as I hoped.
It was mainly Quinn's fault. I loved him! There was such a good heart wrenching build up to what happened to him and how he was lost within his past trauma, then suddenly, when he accepts he wants Tek he's all take charge and toppy. Once again, super hot! Not complaining, but just....not what I wanted. He went to therapy and stuff so it definitely wasn't 'your dick healed me', but we didn't see any gradual healing once he was with Tek.
This story also runs along the same timeline as the previous book and because it had been so long since I read it, some of the side characters took a while for me to place. So no, this can't really be read as a standalone. But the other books were my favourite anyway 😁
Tek is a character that has been hanging around in the background of this series with some obvious issues but is a man that we knew very little about. When we finally get his story it is just as gritty as the rest of the men in Watch Me but Tek has an underlying neediness that came as quite a surprise to me.
As with all Avril Ashton’s books this one drags you in kicking and screaming with the emotions she pulls out of her men. She really likes to make her characters work for their bit of happy and Tek and Quinn certainly had to work in this book.
Tek is so broken and damaged from past actions that it’s surprising he is still alive, in fact he has Elias to thank for that in more ways than one. His troubles start at just 10 years old when showing a side of himself to his parents backfires with quite drastic consequences and seems to be the catalyst for how his life plays out as a young teen. He asks for very little from the people around him – he wants to be loved and accepted for who he is on any given day and in return you get his loyalty which is absolute.
We have met Quinn before in Xavier’s story. They were happily married until their home and Quinn were violated. Quinn walked away from his marriage when he couldn’t bear to look at his husband. His ex-husband may have moved on but Quinn lives in his own personal hell, dragged down by memories and nightmares and slowly falling apart. We get the real Quinn in this book and not the façade he puts on to the few friends he still keeps in contact with.
When Tek stays at Quinn’s home whilst laying low after a job for a couple of nights it seems damage recognises damage. Tek can immediately see how badly Quinn is hurting and wants to be the man to help fix him, the only problem with that is that Tek is also drowning. Family commitments and visits to the only man who Tek thinks fully accept him are slowly killing him. Tek needs rescuing too!
This is raw, emotional and often times very bloody. Gang life is cruel and won’t just release you to live happily ever after. I loved Tek’s vulnerability even if it seemed Quinn stepped up too quickly to take on his role but they were beautiful together in the end. They both have to say goodbye to emotional pasts before moving on. I believe this is the last in the series, with a spin off series coming along in its wake, which I am very pleased about as there are still a lot of unanswered questions – least of all Stavros.
From the very first chapter, this book shocked the hell out of me. There's a menage thing going on here. I'm still dealing with menage scene. The MC having sex with another man. Men to be exact. You know what? But I kept reading. It's like watching a freight train coming after you. Scary but you couldn't close your eyes. I want to know everything. All about Tek. If I have to read a menage thing, all be damn. And well, the writing sucked me in.
Tek and Quinn are like... Unconditional love. They're not perfect. They're broken. They had their own sh*t that needs to be fixed. And they did had each other to figure that out.
I did like this book. Too bad I didn't love it. Maybe I've grown too much attached to Elias and Lucky. They're my favorite couple in this series.
Can't wait for the spin-off series. <3
P. S. : I definitely liked the protected sex idea. *thumbs up*
I love AA’s books - they’re gritty, harsh and make me bloody angsty ! Her characters are brilliant, all with so much aggression, loyalty and a hint or vulnerability down deep. I loved Tech & Quinn and their chemistry was spot on for me. Will need a re-read of Call the Coroner now !
Eh, I guess. So, let's go over what worked for me, and what didn't. First, I'm not a fan of cross dressing in stories. It's just not my thing. Men in panties..and wigs and lipstick just don't do it for me, BUT the three or so books that I've read with this theme have all been extremely well done by the authors. This one was no exception. I trusted that not only would this author do the theme justice, but that it would not be the most important part of the book...and I was right. She did not disappoint. Even though it was an intrinsic part of who Tek was, there was so much more going on than the fact that he liked to wear dresses. I found his aching desire to be accepted for who he is really beautiful, and loved that Quinn did exactly that without hesitation. So, even though I put off reading the book because of this theme, this part of the book was perfectly fine.
I really liked Tek and Quinn together for most of the book. Their scenes were both hot and loving. I loved how they were broken but found that acceptance in each other; I loved Quinn's desire to get better for both himself and Tek. I empathized with Tek's backstory and hurt for him and, as usual, I loved the ensemble cast. They always increase a book's rating because this band of brothers and their spouses are just that freaking awesome. This author just has a way of bringing New York to life, and I love that she keeps it urban without making the book ghetto. Simple phrases like 'Did he just call him by his government?' make me smile and warm me to the core. I feel like I know these characters because I know their 'hood. I can see it, and them. This is why her work is so addicting, and why I haven't gotten ish done, reading two books in two days. But, while I love this series and the prequels to it, this couple didn't really work for me in the end.
The first thing was that I felt their love connection was too quick. I loved their first interactions, that first kiss swoooon, but then the neediness seemed to come too soon. Once I got over that, I struggled to understand how Quinn went from someone who could barely sleep at night, eat a full meal or even leave his house, to a Dominant ordering Tek around. I totally get that, sometimes, when someone is even more messed up than you are, it lends a certain strength, but eh..I don't know. Tek's heroin use - heroin is one of the most addictive drugs around. I just didn't understand how Tek could be so selective with its use after he'd been with Quinn for such a short time, especially after how much he used it before. Maybe if the author had said cocaine I might have fared better but, as it stood, I wasn't buying it. I'm not saying there are NO casual heroin users but as messed up as Tek was, he shouldn't have been able to go days and weeks without it.
Once Tek and Quinn established what they were to each other, and once he came clean about the cross dressing and the drug use, I didn't get why it was so hard for him to trust in that and why it was so easy for Stavros to lure him. I really didn't get that whole Stavros/Elias 'I'm pretending and letting him drug me up so I can save you and your family' bit to be honest. I was a little lost there.
Then we get to the moment - the ambush by Israel. This is where Tek lost me and he never really regained my support. After being with Quinn, after knowing Quinn accepted him for who he was, after supposedly feeling that someone really 'saw' him for the first time, he says to Elias (a man he's loved for years but who loves him like a brother):
“I have loved you for so fucking long.” The words trembled. “I love you, and now he knows that there's all of you taking up space where all of him wants to be. I don't know how to remove you.
Even Quinn realizes it, You forgot to say you’re in love with someone else,” he said at Tek’s ear, loud enough for the others to hear. “You forgot to say you don’t feel for me what I feel for you because someone else is there, where I want to be. Where I need to be.” He gulped air into his burning lungs. “You forgot.”......“You gave me the only thing you couldn’t give him, your body, and something tells me if you had the opportunity he’d get that too.”
So, how do we go from that to Tek saying to Quinn: “I love Elias...But I’ve done fine without him. No you haven't. You were a drugged out, suicidal mess. I’ve lived. I’ve lived and carried on without having him. I know— I know —I can’t live without you. Watching you walk away from me, that had me ready to end it all. I can’t live without you. This isn’t me choosing you because I can’t have him. This isn't about me picking door number two or settling for second best. This is me telling you, promising you— cross my heart promise—that there was never a competition. You have a lock on all positions. All fucking positions. This is just me telling you that you’ve only ever had me. The real me. The real me who’s in love with you. And it’s not a contest. But if it were, you’d be the winner every Goddamn time.” This after you JUST walked away from Quinn, not telling him where you going, and flew to another continent to help Elias? As Israel so eloquently put it, You will always choose Elias over him. Isn’t that the reason you went to Lisbon with Stavros? Why you allowed him to shoot you up and use you, so you can protect Elias when you know for fucking sure he can protect himself and his family?”
Of course, I'm quoting bits and pieces of a longer conversation, parts where Tek tells Elias how much he loves Quinn (after Elias convinces him the fear etc etc and all the stuff he feels is love) but these are the parts that stood out to me. I'm supposed to believe, after what he just said 5mins ago, that Quinn was Tek's first choice? Nope. No ma'am. Sorry. Couldn't do it. This whole exchange killed this romance for me. Killed it dead. Quinn moving on from Xavier was done sooo much better. I came away from that scene on that balcony knowing that they absolutely loved each other and always would, that they had an unbreakable bond and maybe, if things had been different, they would still be together but that they had moved on and wanted each other to be happy. It was beautiful, it was perfect. It warmed my heart. This? No ma'am, just no.
Once this happened, I kept reading but it was pretty much a wrap. The only thing that saved this book from being 2.5 stars for me was the cast of characters coming together in the end. Tek coming back to Quinn and putting on a dress as he bared his soul seemed a cheap ploy to me. Quinn had already accepted Tek for who he was. Tek wearing a dress was never a problem so putting it on now and asking him to 'see you'? We did that a few chapters ago, boo!
There were all these twists and turns at the end that seemed like drama for drama's sake. I was just ready for it to be over. The funny thing is that Reggie and Is were the most interesting part of the whole ambush. I.LOVE.THEM. They are so real with theirs. Reggie being furious at Is, saying to him, 'I warned you. You asked my opinion and then ignored it.' Somehow they manage to still be best friends, as well as lovers. Equals in every way. I love them so hard.
I'm glad I read the first book of the Loose ends before this one, because I might have put off reading that one and that book is FIRE. You win some, you lose some. This one was a bit of a miss for me.
Save Me was not as good as the other books in the series, but I still enjoyed it. Avril Ashton always takes you on such emotional journeys. The reason why I didn't like the book as much as the others was that I had difficulties relating the characters - Tek and Quinn's issues and quirks were often foreign experiences to me. It's still a good book. Quinn has a lot of trauma from his past and Tek is genderfluid, so if you want to explore these topics, this book will be great for as. It's extremely well written, steamy and the mafia B plot is intense.
So much was crammed into this last book of the "Run This Town" series. Since I started with the "Loose Ends" series I'm kinda of up to speed on almost all the players. I s desperately want to jump to "The Coroner" but I need to finish "Loose Ends" first. Dutch's story, the cold hearted son of a bitch that he is, is next on my agenda.
Tek and Quinn are two characters we've been waiting to see get together for a long while now Both men are broken, in some instances beyond repair. Individually they are each ready to fall victim to their past and the relentless demons that torture them from the depths of their nightmares into the light of day.
When I began this piece I had a difficult time believing the author would be able to convince me that these two fractured souls would be able to have a meaningful connection. After all, both Tek and Quinn have each experienced pain and torment in both the physical and emotional sense. With only one of them knowing how dark and relentless evil can be, it would be difficult for these two to create a lasting relationship. However, with both men being so...fragile, how can this relationship ever be more than a glaring example of unhealthy codependency?
Fortunately for the reader, Ms. Ashton has it all under control.
In their combined brokenness, Tek and Quinn find a strength that rivals even the strongest heroes'. These two men are powerful and passionate, and the most wonderful part of ;getting to experience this story, is that the reader gets to witness their individual and collective re-genesis. It's not an easy journey, in fact it's painful and often makes you want to cover your eyes and peak through the crack in your fingers while you're holding your breath. Ashton has created two very complex characters that keep ripping away at every layer of the reader's heart until you are a sobbing bag of water.
The story is dark, with a reasonable pace and the love scenes as always are FIRE!! I mean, it's an Avril Ashton book, by now we should expect our Kindles to incinerate when reading her books.
This time around, we get Tek and Quinn's story-- two damaged men who want to save each other. Both men are slowly drowning from different, but equal, issues. Life feels hopeless and is killing them. When they come together you want them to be strong, and they were explosive.
My favorite quote:
"I need to kiss you. Taste you, just once." He held up a finger as he walked over slowly. "Just one time. I need to put my lips on yours, feel them part for me. I think you'll taste like everything I've forbidden myself to want. I think it'll devastate me, the feel, the taste of you, when your tongue touches mine. But I want that. Just once. Let me taste you, Quinn." He didn't usually beg. At least not for this, not for a kiss. "Devastate me."
My thoughts:
Avril Ashton needs to write faster! This series is amazing and I want more. Feed my need, Avril
I really enjoyed this addition to the series. It had a very good storyline. Quinn and Tek were delicious together in all their brokeness. I loved how the other characters are all intertwined. It makes me want to reread Isreal and Reggie's story. 4.5 stars.
Another good read I received this arc by the author and this is my honest opinion. This is the 4th book in the series featuring the rude boys. This couple is Quinn and Tek. Quinn who was married to X has emotional trauma from an incident involving X family who would not tolerate their sexuality. Tek is very much part of the workings of the rude boys and when he needs to lie low after a job, Quinn becomes his host. With emotional baggage between both characters and accepting one another, that's just the tip of the iceberg as they then have to face the perils of gang life, F.B.I, and a demented family member that's hell bent on reaquainting herself to family. I enjoyed this book and the author has done another good job that holds up to previous books. This book does have self harming in the story so for people to bare that in mind. But a great story that was well written and the characters really likable
Apart from the switch in Quinn personality when one minute he doesn’t want to be touched or kissed to tasting Tek and boom, he refuses to let him go. I enjoyed this so much. The angst was everything I needed.
Tek has been such a mysterious fella and I was thrilled to finally get to see what he's all about. I wanted Quinn to feel safe...be loved. These guys were so so broken. It was interesting to see how they went about figuring out this relationship and everything around them.
Smitten Points...We got to see Elias!! He has been my favorite of this series and I got a little tingly seeing him again!
I don’t know how I feel about this one. It definitely isn’t my fav but it wasn’t terrible either. I was really excited to finally get Tek’s story because even after all these books he’s was still so mysterious. This book was so heart breaking, both mean we’re broken and went through some of the most traumatic experiences imaginable. But it was good to see them at least start the healing process.
What a ride...I don't know where to start,'cause my thoughts are all jumbled, and I don't know...this book was all I thought it would be,and then some more.
If you thought that this book will pull on your heartstrings,if you thought that it will break you at one moment, and then make you ecstatic in next, you were right. If you thought that it would be hot and passionate, that your kindle will literally burn when these two get together, you were sooo right...all I know that when I got to 65% mark,I had only one thought - "Oh,God these two are going to take place in my heart reserved for Angel&Gabe." . Yeah, and I thought that was not possible...they didn't,but the thought was there.
For Tek&Quinn to be together we all know what had to be done first - Quinn had to heal,he had to finally overcome what happened to him,and he had to leave feelings he had for Xavier in the past once and for all,and Tek...well,he had a lot on his plate,a lot of sh*t he had to deal with, but the most important one was his love for Elias.
When it comes to Quinn, let me just say that Ms. Ashton has done everything masterfully. He had to accept that after that horrific night,he was never going to be the same, that no matter how much he mourns the loss of the old self,he had to accept the fact that that old Quinn is gone, and in his place there's new one - bruised, but not broken; vulnerable, and yet so strong. Yes,the the trigger for this to happen was Tek,but he did it - he healed, and he let go of Xavier once and for all - not only for Tek,but for himself. I loved Quinn here,I really did.
As for Tek...oh,boy where to start with him. I really felt for him in this book...at times I thought he was beyond saving, because he was that screwed up. Not so much he himself, but his life...And than Quinn came. If I were to choose one word to describe these two it would be POTENT...just like the whiskey - potent and powerful. But the most important thing he had to deal with in order to be with Quinn - Elias...well,I don't have the right words right now to describe my feelings, but I expected something else.
I know Tek loves Quinn,I really believe it,but i also feel like he hasn't let go of Elias, not completely,no...and Quinn deserves 100%,and then some more, because Quinn has managed to do the same thing - he let go of Xavier, and I felt it,I really did,so why when Tek said to Quinn "I’m all yours" haven't I felt the same? If everything with Elias was handled better, this book would probably be on my favorite shelf by now...but it hasn't,and even though I was satisfied when all the secrets were out and everything was settled (more or less) and they finally got to be together - truly and completely, how everything went down with Elias prevented me from being truly happy for them.
One more thing - I liked Israel and Reggie in (Watch Me) Body You (esp. Reggie). Their story was not one hell of ride like most stories by Ms. Ashton are,but I loved them nonetheless. But here,I loved Israel, and my respect for him has gone straight to the sky. He had a major role in how everything went down between Elias,Tek and Quinn and maybe he didn't do right by his family,by his brothers, but HE DID THE RIGHT THING. And sometimes that means hurting the ones you love, and hurting yourself in the process...
And that would be it...now I'm looking forward to reading Levi's story,'cause I've been waiting it for a very long time. And hopefully Dutch's will not be very far behind.
"No matter how you try to hide" Tek whispered. "I see you, Quinn."
So I found Avril Ashton a little while back, not too long ago, and for two-three weeks I devoured her Brooklyn Sinners series and then the Run this town series. Until I got to book four and I stopped. Why? Because Avril Ashton knows how to bring the fucking rip-your-heart-out feels. And Tek just felt a bit more broken than the others, Quinn too. So I ran away scared! but the book was constantly on my mind whenever I was reading other books, even when I wasn't, I couldn't get into other books a lot of the time because my mind was constantly thinking about this book! So I had to grow a pair and I decided to read it, finally! And did miss Ashton bring the feels? Of course she did!!
"Escape. That was what he wanted. He didn't know peace, not anymore. He didn't know himself, not since that night. He saw himself drowning, but refused to call out for help. All he wanted was an ease to the suffering."
We've met Tek in the other books as well as Quinn, briefly. Both men are broken. Both men have insecurities. Both men want to be loved but no clue how to let it be. Let it happen and this is their story of falling in love and accepting each other and themselves. I'm obviously not getting into the plot! If you've read the previous books you'll have an idea, if not? You need to read them!
"Be careful Tek." "Cross my heart promise."
I want to crawl inside this woman's brain and live there. Forever. Her writing is so fucking addicting. So raw and gritty and pretty fucking chaotic. And absolutely beautiful. She's so smart, so talented. And yep. I'm fan girling. Hard. I just want to sit there and ask her question after question. I want to be her brain. Yep. This is gone beyond weird at this stage lol! I'm not even sorry.
Tek and Quinn just stole my heart. Their personal journeys and their journey to love and accepting each other and themselves was just seriously beautiful. It's not always easy with these two especially when the love they think they need is in front of them and not elsewhere. The pure acceptance in this book made my heart burst with happiness. This is how it should be and I'm just in awe of Ms Ashton's storytelling.
" What we have, baby. That shit is the only true thing in my fucked up life. You're my truth."
I was captivated by these characters. Their story was just everything. The growing strength of them was a great thing to watch unfold.
"Devastate me."
Oh, and Quinn standing up to Stavros and claiming his man? Hell. Fucking. Yes.
Don't ask me why I am just now reviewing this fabulous book by the uber talented Ms Av. I suppose I was hoping to reread it before attempting it, but that's all on me.
As always, Ms Av always packs a punch with her books. They will gut you, make your heart break, but inevitably, it will be put back together.
I LOVE that Ms Av's books ALWAYS have an HEA no matter how difficult things may seem, and let me tell you, this book had the markings of an impossible HEA, but Ms Av pulled it off.
Lets's start off with Quinn. He's endured unspeakable horror, which still fills me with hatred and anger when I think about what he went through (as a side note, in my opinion, those bastards got away too easily). I don't know if I'd ever be better if I went through what he did.
Ms Av spared no details in letting us know how he faced he demons. I tell you my heart broke so many times for him, it's a wonder it ever got put back together. I LOVED that Quinn was a fighter. Even though things seemed bleak, there always seemed to be that spark of hope that he never let go of. I LOVED that when he was ready, he let love in. I LOVED that he wanted to get better and did what he needed to do.
And now, for Tek! Never (well maybe not never, but you get the point) in the history of romance, have there being two seemingly ill-suited people as romantic interests. Tek, too, has demons of his own, added to the fact that he has no idea who he is or how he's supposed to fit into the prescribed mold. Then add his family drama and you have a guy who's drifting aimlessly through life. He makes lousy decisions and puts his life at risk daily. However, when push comes to shove, he's a guy who'd do ANYTHING for his friends. Underneath his self destructive behavior is a kindhearted man who is incredibly loyal, kind and smart. I also LOVED that eventually Tek learned to love himself just as he is - quirks and all :)
Tek and Quinn together was a shocker in that I wasn't expecting how things turned out between them. I LOVED that they both helped each other slowly overcome their challenges.
This book is not an easy book to read, I won't lie, but if you stick with it, you'll be glad you did.
This book certainly proves that no matter how bad your life is, if you let love in, it will ALWAYS get better. Maybe not immediately, but eventually, it will. You can never go wrong when you let love in.
The “Run This Town” series is my first foray into the writings of Avril Ashton and I quickly became a fan with book 1. Except I have not yet read any of her other works outside of this series…I’ll get there, promise.
I’ve loved ALL of the books in this series. They’re gritty, they’re raw, they’re raunchy, they’re intense, they are just…WOW. Nothing is held back and these characters are…you know…I’m not sure I have words to describe them, except YUM. I’ve read some pretty gritty, raw, raunchy, intense stuff – or I thought I did until I encountered the world Avril Ashton created. Now nearly all that other stuff looks tame in comparison.
So this one – the last in this particular series – started out with the first freaking sentence with something I have never encountered in any of the other 100+ MM books I’ve read. I hold no judgment whatsoever in real life ‘cause I think everyone should find a way to be their authentic self. But, I’ll be honest, as a reader I wasn’t sure this was something I wanted to read about.
I stuck with it because I definitely wanted the story of Tek & Quinn and I’m so glad I did. It was actually pretty freakin’ hot.
When it comes to Avril Ashton's books, I buy without looking at the book description. And she never disappoint. Not this time. I couldn't like this book , and I didn't care for Quinn and Tek. After the first chapter which was very promising, the book went down hill for me. Too much drama! Not what I'm used to with Ashton books. I also felt that she wanted to clarify few things about old situations in her previous books and somehow Quinn and Tek's story was shoved in the middle. Even the sex scenes which were usually off the charts hot , were unusually boring. Didn't care for Tek's kink , though I loved it with Syren and Kane story. I couldn't relate how Quinn suddenly transformed from the weak broken man to the strong dominant in the relationship. I'm very disappointed not because of the money I spent on this book, but because now I have to wait for another new release by her and hoping it will be as great as her previous releases.
I've tried for so long to muster up the courage to read this one. I knew... I just knew it would wreck me, and it did. It really, really did. I was shocked, more than once by these two; from the outside looking in, I didn't see them together. I thought they'd be terrible together, they were both so broken in so many different ways. That's how they healed each other though, but jeeeez was it a bumpy ride. Secrets, secrets and more secrets... I can't even tell you how many times I wanted to shake my kindle. I'm kind of mad at Is too, still. I didn't get over that quite as quickly.
I want to gush about this book for days, and I could. But, I don't want to give any of it away. If you love any of the stories in this series; you'll love this one. I'm glad I finally grew a pair and read it. Don't be scared, like I was lol, it's well worth the heartache and panic attacks I had while going through it. Love this author, love this series, love this story.
