27 year old Ella Taylor is having a tough time: • Her mum’s recently died • She’s been cheated out of a promotion at work • Her new boss is a Barbie doll who models herself on Gwyneth Paltrow • She’s living in a horrible bedsit • The hot guy upstairs thinks she’s an idiot in a Kermit the Frog onesie
And now she’s inherited a run down cottage in a hick village with a bunch of conditions attached.
Definition (British): onesie Noun A loose-fitting one-piece leisure garment covering the torso, legs and arms, usually fashioned in fleece, often in the shape of an animal.
If you're a fan of Sophie Kinsella or Bridget Jones' Diary, or just love a quirky British romcom, you'll love this!
CJ Morrow writes the kind of fiction she likes to read and since her taste is varied so are her books. She loves a romcom with a guaranteed happy ending, equally she loves a psychological thriller especially where the ending is a plausible shocker.
When she doesn't like what's going on in the world, she writes another one.
Word weaver, lover of things curious, unseen and unexplainable, general wordy person. Always watching and laughing, mostly at herself.
This is a sweet story of romance and mystery and even a bit of the supernatural thrown in. The twists and turns were enough to keep the reader interested without becoming bewildered. The fact that all the characters were interconnected to form stepping stones for Ella, the main character, also made for an interesting plot. I loved the author’s use of hints to resolve Ella’s problems and new found responsibility.
The main character, Ella, seemed so real. I loved that her boss was a nitwit. I loved the situational comedy. I mean who hasn’t been a mess and met the cute guy or gal in their apartment complex, but when you’re dressed up…no one. I was rooting for her the entire story. I was so happy she was able to see a closure to her problems. Many people never get to see karma in action.
All the characters were memorable, but it was Walt that really was just such a loveable character. I loved the way he spoke and how he was like the dad Ella never had. The villagers seemed to have inside joke that they all shared, but never actually announce to Ella.
Although by the end of the book, Ella seemed to know the villager’s and the spring’s secret. The spring under the cottage was like a character, which pegged the integrity of everyone like an over protective dog.
The description of the cottage in the village was so prefect I could see it in detail. The village was so real I was reminded of my granny’s town in Scotland right down to the old fashion public bathrooms.
The author even added the short story that this book was based on. It helped me understand where certain events in the story came from and made me hope that there will be more to the story.
I want to know about Ella’s mom and dad, her aunt and uncle and the other villagers. What were the past owners like? What happens in the future?
You know it is a great story when the reader is sad to see the story end.
I absolutely adored this insanely balanced, divinely subtle book. Blame it on the Onesie is like some kind of soothing broth, or like the hot chocolate Edna serves Ella as she's coming to terms with the power that runs beneath her new cottage. The mysticism is dished up in spoonfuls so it's not overdone. The love story builds slowly, but fast enough to keep you turning the pages and desperately willing things to work out in the end. Morrow is a gifted writer, every sentence is polished and the story woven intricately and perfectly. I should note it's a clean romance, because I do usually enjoy a bit of dirt, but this one is not at all sickeningly clean. Like I said, it's just insanely balanced. And beautiful.
This book was good, but it jumped around way too much for my taste. I couldn't quite figure it out. Ella goes from having a job she hates and being very self-centered, to all of a sudden inheriting a cottage that she can't decide if she wants it. The scene with the avant garden play was pointless. Overall, I gave it three stars since I do enjoy English stories.
What did I just read??? Started out good. Then an abrupt left turn, with a dead goat in a magic spring and everyone drinks the water and is magically rejuvenated. And then the rushed ending. Just no.

This book was a riot (I mean that in a good way!)!! It started off slow, but I stuck with it and am glad that I did. I don't wanna give any spoilers, so I'm trying to be vague, but if you read this book and find yourself wanting to put it down, stick with it. I promise you, it gets better and by the end of the book, you'll be wanting more. I'm off to find the sequel to see what happens next!!
This was a fantastic book. Ella annoyed me a bit to start with with her constant moaning and negative outlook but I quickly warmed to her. It kept me hooked and I loved the quirkiness of the cottage and spring. Definitely recommend.
I got this book and started reading it just to unwind from the serious literature I am doing lately. So, naturally, I didn't think much of it. As I never do when it comes to chick-lit and similar genres.
However, I kept turning pages one after another. Bravo for the author who gives you hints that this and that could be wrong and you literally start putting pieces together as if it was a puzzle, not a book. I was literally holding my breath to see what is the actual deal with a certain khm-khm negative character.
Spiced up with a good laugh.
Not sure if the supernatural part was needed but it certainly didn't bother me.
I started reading 'Blame it on the Onesie' on 4th January finished it 3 days later. I did not want to put it down. I thought it was entertaining, funny and well written. The characters were totally believable. Ella's work situation rang true and the humorous way she dealt with it made me smile. The 'Spring of Life' plot was a little strange, but did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romantic comedy.
The story continues in ‘A Onesie is not just for Christmas’ which I am just about to start as I’m dying to know if Hal gets his comeuppance.
There's so much to enjoy about this book, it's a really enjoyable read !! Believable characters who you can totally relate too, well written with some laugh out load comedy too. Definitely one to recommend from me.
The book is really addictive once you start !!!! Some of the situations are totally relateable, I mean, if you've ever had some annoying work colleagues, it will bring a smile to your face. Then there is the twist - so cool !!!
A really refreshing read. Ella in the meeting room did what so many of us would love to do. Her handling of the rotten Hal was very good, though if it had been me when the name calling started I would have thrown something preferably in his mouth.Would enjoy reading more about Ella and Nathan and The Spring of Life. Please, please, write a follow up book.
I was left speechless. I almost gave up reading this book. I'm sorry but it dragged on for the first 3 chapters, but I kept on going. Was up until 5am reading because I just couldn't put it down. I dont think I've read this book, but I swear it sounds so familiar, maybe a movie? It left me wanting to know more. I want to know the story behind the Spring of Life.
So much I enjoyed about this book. Loved the comedy, the romance, the magic of the spring and the delights being uncovered in the cottage. I'm also rather intrigued now to try meese toast. Well done on another great indie author production!
I enjoyed this book more and more as I got into it to the point I couldn't put it down. It has an almost supernatural feel to it, with all the strange things that go on in the house, but is a rom com at heart-although maybe not the way you would think!
I think it was amazing kept me awake and I didn't want to put it down, I laughed out loud at the feral Billy moment, I only wished we got to see what Ella did with the cottage maybe a book 2 on the way?
This is one of those books that made me sad when it was over! The main character was funny, sweet, and relatable. I wish that the ending could have been drawn out a little, but absolutely worth the read to me!
Please consider writing a part two I am really interested if Ella comes to terms with the Spring of Life. And how the house turns out as well as Sam and Charlie's New addition to there family
I really enjoyed this story about Elle, who inherits a cottage with an attached spring. I have enjoyed everything I have read from this author. The follow on book is already on my Kindle to be read next.
