This book makes me want to sell everything I own, move to the wilderness, build a ridiculously beautiful home and live there for the rest of my life. Unfortunately to build one of these beautiful homes I'd have to either rob a bank or win the lottery. Odds on the lottery win...not so good. Soooo....bank robbery it is. Wish me luck! :)

I spent a good deal of time reading this
BUT

To me a cottage is warm and inviting, a cabin is rural and rustic, or “beachy” and relaxing.

Every dingle one in this book of hundreds of photographs and illustrations end up looking industrial styled and cold.

Not what I think when the title is about Cottages’s and Cabins.

If it had been called industrial cottages snd canins it would be a 4 star book.

I know that people think you can’t spend too much time on a book with photos. Even I thought is silly to add it to my reading list.
Does it even count as reading a few paragraphs?
Is this phony?

After going thought 180 page of photos, light text, houses plans and technical details I beg to differ.

The reality is that we absorb information in multiple media. To people used to reading, try understanding a technical drawing. Not only does it use your imagination but also challenges you to use all your internal resources to interpret it.

This was me trying to remember all the classes in school where we learned house compartmentalization.

Beyond that, I took a trip around the world.
And since I am super interested in gathering information about sustainable construction, if you are too, know here are some pertinent examples.

Now, not all are interesting. Some might be too big, small, luxurious, odd or not for you. The point is to make an idea as to what is possible. And what we like.

Ideas aplenty, but very industrial looking.

Good conservation conscience, but the finished product is always very industrial looking. What about those of us who prefer a traditional look?

Super merita cele 16.6 lire, circa 85 de lei, in Carturesti fiind 125 lei.

This book was pretty captivating: 500 pages, all color and perhaps 1,000 photos of actual cabins, albeit rather modern and contemporary. Having said that, a cabin is a cabin is a cabin. You just won't find a lot of Montana or upstate NY rustic pine getaways. This is a more sophisticated offering, and done quite beautifully, with numerous architects' original sketches and excellent line drawings and renderings.

This finely curated book has a certain aesthetic that I admire: very clean cabin and cottage designs that are both unusual and unique. The book design is also unusual, in that it's a squared 8x8". All in all a great powerhouse of modern cabin design.

From Chili to the USA to the Netherlands and Norway, I like it that the writer(s) of this book looked at so many different landscapes where the houses were built. Of course, an important part of building a cottage or cabin is the location and thus the light; maybe the most important part. The use of large glass windows seems to be very important to the writer(s). Not everybody wants to live that way. So some more variation regarding this aspect would have been welcome. Very enjoyable coffee table book.

I'm looking to build a new home -- cottage-style, small, cozy and in the woods -- this great little book is chockfull of photos and ideas that have helped me incubate what I might want. A lovely coffee table book with a lot of practical punch.

I enjoyed that each cottage typically had a floorplan and some of the architect's original sketches. I wish they included more interior pictures.

This is a really fun book for house plan junkies like me. Great photos, interesting designs, beautiful locations, and, of course, floor plans for each design. Mmmmmmm.
