'Skim', Celia, entered the lottery because she felt like a burden on her poor family. However, when she wins, she realises she has made the biggest mistake of her life. Love is worth more than clean air in your lungs and food in your stomach. Now it is too late. She is going to have to leave her family behind and travel to Karal

As the second lottery winner, Celia hopes to earn some coin from interviews to help her desperately poor family. However, she knows no amount of coin will heal the heartache she has caused. Full of love for her family, she has no choice but to leave them and journey to Karal with Torac. Maybe there she can make a new family with the alien who is her mate.

However, Torac is the Hier Commander, a member of the Hierarchy, chosen to set an example to others. Earth females must not be allowed to live with their alien mate. They belong in the breeding house. He has his orders and he will carry them out.

Torac might be strong, with an iron will. Yet he is about to learn about love. And it will change him forever.

I really liked this book, The heroine Celia and her family were amazing and the love they all had for each other took this book to another level. Torac being one of the highest in the Karal land has been ordered to be the next lottery winner. He will collect his earth woman bring her home, impregnate her, and then deliver her to the breeding house, once his son is born he will take him from Celia and never think of her again and this will help keep his people on the right direction. But when Torac meets Celia her emotions pour out from her and he can't stop feeling her love for her family and her sadness at loosing them.

Celia made a plan to help her family she would enter the lottery and if she was picked she would do everything to earn money for her family before she left. Once Celia was gone her family wouldn't have her to take care of so everyone would be better. But when Celia is picked she realizes what a horrible mistake she made. One that will take her away from he only people who mean anything fro her. Knowing there is no turning back Celia tries to come to grips with her new life. When Torac meets Celia and her family he starts to question his plans and all he has been so sure of his entire life. But Torac also knows he isn't a regular citizen and he may not have a choice in the end.

I really liked this one I loved Celia's family and I hope we see them more in the future, and I loved seeing Torac a man(alien) who knows it all be brought to his knees by a human woman and the love she and her family share. Torac was a great hero who's whole world was turned upside down and all of his beliefs soon flew out the window. This is a really fun series, one I wasn't sure how many I would read but now wanting to read them all. We get to see more of this planets changes in this book as the human woman begin to change Karal just by being there and loving their mates. This is one series I want to keep reading because I enjoy the characters and because I want to see how it will all end.

I liked book 1 so much that I immediately jumped into book 2. And again, I liked it.
One thing I like about them is how short they are. A short read and not too much drama. Mostly the relationships are explored. No big plot twist to overcome. I enjoy the simple, non-stressful read.
On this book we have 2 virgins. Again, he is a skilled lover by design. I am not sure how this virgin was able to take him and enjoy him when the chick in book 1 was not a virgin and was in so much pan she was worried she was going to split in half! But hey, it is an alien erotic romance. Like my husband loves to tell me “don’t think so hard”.

Virgin rating:
Innocence of virgin hero: 2.5/5
Innocence in losing it: 1.t/5
Build up to losing it: 3/5
Hotness of losing it: 2.5/5
Busted touching himself: no
POV of losing it: female

'Such a wonderful series Such a shame' is the title I gave my review of Book #3

What a wonderful story, not book #2 only, the entire premise behind the series storyline. And here comes a big 'BUT'... but not if you don't go through all three together. I encourage everyone to begin with #1 and read them back to back as I did. If you don't, then the disappointment of the obvious gaps will be even more evident. Each one is seriously incomplete with major literary opportunities missed. I don't understand this need to crank out 'books' so quickly at the cost of the story excellence. These stories have underlying meanings/lessons which are diminished by their lack of completeness and character development....and for what? I gave books 1-3 four stars but individually, because of the above, they would rate only 2 as 'stand alone'.

Quick read, fortunately, so I can sleep now. Anvillicious morals of the story. There was also InstaLove (tm), as in Never-have-I-ever-loved-before-but-one-handshake-and-NOW-I-UNDERSTAND. Shallow. Still curious to see how it turns out and not painful to read, so I'll continue on. Still not particularly involved with any of the characters though...

SCI-FI DELIGHT !!!
Wow! Harmony Raines has strutted her stuff and once again surprised us all with a foray into the wonderful world of science fiction and what a delightfully entertaining treat it is! I love it! Love is the second book in her brand new series, Chosen by the Karal and it totally rocks, people! Each release is a stand alone novella with no cliffhanger but if I understand correctly, each book will revolve around the same premise but will feature a different couple and will also include several of the same characters in each book. Now having said that, I would like to highly recommend reading the books in order to maximize the enjoyment of each book. This is just so exciting! I love science fiction!
The premise of the series:
In a near future dystopian earth, the planet is overpopulated and on the verge of destruction. The air is polluted and there is a severe shortage of food, fuel, natural resources and breathable oxygen. Many of earth's animals are now extinct. Six months ago, an alien race called the Karal arrived via a wormhole offering to help mankind and save the day in exchange for an alliance and breedable women. Wait! What? Women? A lottery has been called and women that meet certain criteria have the option to enter their names in the drawing. And just what is the prize if you win the lottery, you ask? To move to the planet Karal where food and oxygen is abundant, become the very lucky mate to one of the handsome aliens, serve as his personal broodmare and become an alien baby machine. Huh? Wait, that's the prize?
The plot of this story:
Celia Turner had dreamed of becoming an agricultural engineer but by the time she receives her degree, there are no jobs in her chosen field. The forests have been cut down searching for any available resources and as a result, tornadoes and wind have ravaged the planet. Most of the land has become barren and will not support crops, vegetation nor animal life. Earth is dying and so will its people if something isn't done and quickly. The Karalians arrived six months ago and have given renewed hope to the people of the planet but it seems there is a resource left on Earth that the Karalians desperately need - Earth females. Karal also suffered a catastrophic event which caused the death of the females on their planet and since, no females have been born leaving the Karalians searching for a compatible species with whom to mate to prevent their own extinction. A lottery has been established and despite the odds, Celia just won. She and her family are "skims" meaning they're very poor and belong to the lowest class. She loves her family and doesn't want to leave them but she no longer wants to be a burden to her parents and since she can't find a job, she sees this as her only way to help her parents. But the things that Celia doesn't know is enough to fill an ocean because it seems that not only is the lottery rigged but the handsome Karalian male she has been chosen to mate with, has no interest in making her welcome in his home nor in his life. He only wants one thing - a child. As soon as she's pregnant she'll be sent away to the Breeder's Camp to live alone until other humans arrive who will probably suffer the same fate. So this is to be her life. She knew it sounded too good to be true. But lovely, kind-hearted Celia has never been with any man and after seeing the handsome alien she was to be paired with, she's decided to enjoy the few days she has with him. She had no idea that Torac was not only the Hier Commander but also a member of the High Council and has an obligation to his Hier Ruler and his planet to follow the policy as determined by the council. Nope, he would not become enthralled by a human woman. The Earth female was chosen because she is currently fertile so as distasteful as it is, he will force himself to obey his Hier Ruler and have sex with the human. At least he would get a son from the ordeal. Then he could be rid of her once and for all. He cannot understand why Marin, the first male Karalian to receive a woman from earth, is so enamored with his female - until he meets his female with her beautiful red hair, green eyes and voluptuous curves. His only experience with sex has been training with a computer simulation but it has certainly never affected him as this female. He actually desires her - all the time. Oh my! Will stubborn, domineering Torac fall in love with Celia and realize the truth of what his people truly need before it's too late? I wonder??? How they mighty may fall! Let the games begin or in this case, the Lottery!
The book is written as dual, alternating points of view, his and hers, and gives the reader an insightful peek into the mindset of both primary characters. The story is exciting, original, inventive, unusual, well executed, fast-paced, romantic and arousing. The dialogue is well written and flows effortlessly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, well developed and engaging. Raines combines these elements into a brilliantly entertaining science fiction story filled with adventure and romance. No spoilers from me but I will say this...Beautiful, kindhearted agricultural engineer-check! Handsome, sexy, color-changing, alien Hier Commander-check! Adventure, drama, lies, deceit, secrets, and a surprising turn of events-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and some steamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for the next book in this exciting new series! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

THE BLURB MADE ME A COMPLETE SUCKER FOR THIS BUT IT WAS A NOVELLA...ISH AND THERE WASN'T ROOM FOR THE STORY TO FLOW NATURALLY, TO BE IN DEPTH AND WELL EXPLORED.

It's a typical arrogant male who won't fall for the human female but does so just like that...it was a pity he fell without a challenge. Heroine was okay, though the story might have been better with more drama I guess and heart wrenching moments.

Complex and Compelling!

This dramatically complex and compellingly portrayed story of a race of males from another world where females have become extinct and they manage to venture to the dying planet earth and form a alliance with the earth people who are desperate to survive by offering their women in a lottery to give the human race a chance to survive. This highly emotionally charged tale was filled with lots of romance and adventure. This was a great read.

Very interesting

So new and unusual. I love this. The characters. The world. I love the similarities between planets and life forms, but also how very different they are. It shows no group if people is perfect even if they feel they are.

A great series. I really enjoyed this story.

Torac and Celia are the second couple chosen in the lottery and they also decide that they will remain together. They are changing the rules. The couples are changing the rules.

Why doesn't an advanced civilization use artificial insemination? Because they are men. Lots of inconsistencies in book but readable.

Surprisingly good quick read

Let me state for a quick fact that I rarely handed out five star ratings for anything unless truly feel work item is excellent and well above par. If I were to handout a star rating to a book by just enjoy or found entertaining enough to spend some time with then when a book comes along to outshine at any level then how could I as a reviewer/rater of the book do the author justice? There is nothing wrong with a book I give a lower rating to, in fact there are some decent reads there, but I want that combination resonate to me. As is in this story the author made a set of characters I wanted to care about not only the primary but secondary characters. A world in which I could not only envision, but could potentially foresee for our own future as well understand the alien point of view. The author's ability to pull it in to a cohesive story while being able to provide a work that is easy to read end relatively free from any grammatical errors that might otherwise distort a readers enjoyment. Finally this story is one of the few that even despite its short length will be one that I will remember along after I have read others.

Sci-Fi tale with the dying planet Earth, and an alien species needing women to replenish their generation. A lottery will be held every month so a female can go to their planet to mate and procreate their species. Torac is a high commander and goes to Earth to retrieve his lottery winner, Celia. Celia is a sweetie, loves her family and is willing to do this to help them. These aliens are virgins, but have studied what to do. Celia is herself a virgin and is fearful. This new world is different, but fresh and exciting. Torac can't be cold and indifferent once he meets her. Interesting story, hot sex, and deep characters make this worthwhile. This can be a stand alone, but I think would be more fun for the reader if you know the characters as the series develops. Well written, realistic and telling, this is a fun series.
Highly recommend. ENJOY !!

Love the new series!

The way these characters come together even though they are vastly different is inspiring. Torac being a Heir Commander is determined to keep his emotions in check with his female Celia. They have much to learn from each other. These books are great read in order, however with the way they are written you could read them as a standalone. The last chapter gives you a little insight into what the next storyline will be. I cannot wait to read book three.

Fantastic Book

The book and the characters were awesome just like the first one. So the second Karal has fallen in love with his mate and doesn't want to be separated from her. The story know how to capture your imagination and feeling that leaves you wanting more. Truly enjoying reading about the Karal men , their planet, and to start reading book three.

I just happened to read the first book and quickly became a fan of Harmony Raines style of sci-fi writing. In this story line a host commander is sent to earth to find a 'breeder' worthy of his DNA. What he finds is an earth woman who has love to give. But will it be enough to make him change his mind? Can't wait to read the next story.

Love: BBW Alien Lottery Romance

I love this series. It shows the way a relationship should be but they are not. It is nice to at least read of a relationship that works; that people (at least in the story) work together in the up/down.
