Stranded and searching for a phone, Flick inadvertently walks into danger, and finds herself living in a nightmare. But an unexpected reprieve comes in the form of a stranger, a looming silhouette more terrifying than the evil that captured her. From him she learns that danger has an alias, Rushe. He is abrupt, crude, domineering...and her only hope for survival. With freedom a distant memory, Flick is reluctantly drawn into the criminal plot. As she descends further, her entanglement with Rushe becomes deeper. The adventure she started by accident threatens them; but Flick knows it’s not only her life she is battling for, it’s her heart as well.
Writing has always been a big part of my life. Since I was a child I've known exactly where my passion lay. No matter what's gone on in my life writing has been my touchstone. After all, we all need a place to escape to. Reading is my idea of heaven. There's nothing I like more than to switch everything off, close the bedroom door, and curl up with a good book. I have a feeling that's something all at Goodreads can identify with.
Thanks for taking the time with me today. Now do something for yourself, go and curl up in your own reading heaven.

★Review★
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Seriously, this is a PSA! If a dodgy looking guy in an alley, tells you don't want to do something, you probably don't!
But then, there would have been no story!
Flick walks into a Bar, despite the warning, and soon finds herself in a very precarious situation and surrounded by bad guys.
What are you to do, when one of the bad guys decides to take an interest in you, yet does not act like you think he should.
"I'll uncuff you, but you've got to stay close to me," he said. "Do as you're told." "You're going to let me go?" "No. I haven't had my fun with you yet."
It is rare for me in a book to like the heroine as much as the hero, but I did here. I loved Flick, she was a smart mouthed kick-ass little spitfire.
And Rushe - yeah, he is not a good guy, but when he is the best of a bad bunch, and despite his moody and grumpy ways, seems to go out of his way to look after you, how can you not fall in love with him!
And kudos to the author, she kept Rushe consistent throughout the book! He is who he is, and you can take him or leave him. He is a foul mouthed, dirty talker, who has done bad things in the past.
He is not going to write a stern e mail to complain if something pisses him off. He is more likely to hunt down the one who pissed him off, then hunt down anyone that guy cares about, including pets and get his own back (psst not really! There were no fluffy bunnies or Bob the Goldfish hurt in the making of this book). He may be on the side of good, or the side of bad, but he will always have a reason and purpose for doing so.
The banter back and forth between Flick and Rushe was awesome and had me giggling at points.
But this is a book filled with hard topics and issues and full of drama. My heart was pounding at points wondering how it was going to come good!
This is not your typical romance story. If you are looking for a swoon-worthy protagonist, who makes gentle love to the heroine while whispering sweet nothing in her ear, this may not be the book for you.
That being said, this book took my breath away! It is a dark and gritty romance that pushes the limits of what the heroine (and the reader) can take. I applaud Scarlett Finn for not shying away from the darker/dirtier parts of this book and staying true to the characters.
Felicity (Flick) has no idea the turn her life has taken when she walks into a dark bar one night after being stranded. Enter Rushe, the dark and dangerous man who tried to warn her away in the first place. As Flick's situation goes from bad to worse, Rushe seems to be the only constant she can count on.
This book has some very detailed scenes that may not be suitable for all readers, but that convey the rawness of the characters. Like I said earlier, Rushe is not some sweet and loving hero looking for the right woman. He can be a hard and brutal man, who knows what he wants and has no problem taking it, luckily Flick seems all to willing to give it to him.
I would highly recommend this book, to readers that are comfortable with this type of genre, and I look forward to reading more from this amazing author.
Explicit Instruction contains a number of aspects and themes that are dark and difficult which could be challenging for those readers who are not accustomed to a rougher romance. I knew beforehand that chances were good it would push a few of my buttons and read a number of reviews prior to embarking upon this particular journey for a buddy read. I learned that some people absolutely loved it and found it both super hot and action-packed, while others struggled with various dynamics and questioned whether certain elements were realistic.
In terms of my own response, I landed somewhere in the middle.
So to give you the basics, this is a rather raw and gritty tale that starts off with the heroine, Flick, walking into what is, arguably, every woman's nightmare. That in itself was both intriguing and horrifying. I wondered how she would get out of the terrifying situation she'd unwittingly put herself into, what the consequences would be, how she'd deal with them and how the hero of the piece would play his part throughout.
I'm not one for the dark romances with rapist 'heroes' or anti-heroes and thankfully, though this book definitely operates in the realm of human darkness , the sex between the hero, Rushe, and the heroine is always consensual, intense though it may be. Which means I didn't end up throwing my poor e-reader against the wall or wishing I could dive into the book and strangle him with my bare hands.
That being said, some of the things Rushe says and does to Flick in the first part of this novel really bothered me .
There is a lot of rough, wild (and some tender) sex in this book as well as tons of crude, edgy dirty talk, and that seems to work for these two and the connection and understanding they develop as the book progresses further.
What it comes down to is, take him or leave him, Rushe is who he is, and though he may come off harshly at times, you eventually learn that . It took getting further into the book before I could begin to really wrap my head around his character and why he was the way he was.
To put it quite simply, this isn't a 'hearts and flowers' type romance which I'm sure is apparent to anyone who reads the blurb. It's about two people from very different worlds forming an intense connection, first sexual and then more, in incredibly dangerous, life-or-death circumstances where the odds are totally stacked against them and hope is truly a question mark.
To sum it up, it's not for everyone nor is it my usual kind of reading material, but it was a dark and interesting roller-coaster ride all the same.
This book is hot, dirty, explicit to detail, contains kidnapping, no Stockholm Syndrome but very sexual details
'I wouldn't do that if I were you.'
This is where the story starts from: Flick is stranded in middle of nowhere as her cab breaks down. She finds herself facing Del's door. She is about to push it open where she hears this caution thrown to her by non other than Rushe.
She does not pay attention to his caution and she finds herself entering Del's.
From then on its a whirl wind road for her where the bad guys capture her and throw her into a dungeon room and Rushe comes in to help her by taking her to a distant abandon shack along with the bad guys. WHY? cause Rushe works with them as a team.
Flick is scared but somehow has faith in Rushe to protect her. He does in his own way. She is given an opportunity to escape and when she does she finds herself again being caught with the bad guys.
She is then set free 2nd time by RUshe only to be kidnapped by Victor for whom Rushe works.
When she is finally set free by Rushe... and yet again she somehow gets caught and is brought back to Victor only to be sold out *horror*
Does she escape the ordeal? Can Rushe finally help her out? Who is Rushe? His profession?
The best part of this book is that its beautifully written. A very Page turner book but very heavy *sigh*
Rushe and Flick's chemistry is the best, their trust in eachother is awesome. Their intimacy is hot and dirty.
The way he fucks her is in a way his very own love making. Their relationship is not a normal conventional one.
It had been so beautiful to read the scene where unintentionally they make love for the 1st time and they hold hands after the act and that scares Rushe the most cause he has never had a women to love before cause of his job
I loved them both Flick is a very strong heroine and Rushe is too much of an Alpha ;)
It's been many years since I first read this book. It was the beginning to my obsession with men who are not quite the bad guys but are definitely not good either. I remember loving this book and while some things made me roll my eyes, I will keep my rating the same because even 5 years later I still love Rushe.
Original Review 10/2014
I loved this book from beginning to end. Rushe was awesome, he is crude, moody and possessive. I loved how we never knew his exact story and why he was involved in the situation Flick found herself in. Flick was naïve which usually annoys me in my books but I loved her. She is compulsive, stubborn and doesn't listen but most of her decisions are based on her feelings for Rushe and she adores him at times to a fault because she doesn't think. Also, can't forget the sex which was HOT and boy do they enjoy it. I am looking forward to book 2 and seeing how their relationship continues to develop.
“There's no happy ever after. I'm not a bad guy with a good heart, this is no fantasy."
**5 EXPLICIT STARS**
I absolutely loved Explicit Instructions!
About the book:
(This is not your typical love story.) After a bad day Flick is off to a date, on her way the cab breaks down and she finds herself in an unfamiliar area. She spots a bar nearby, before entering she hears one line that will change her life forever.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Kidnapped and held captive by a group of criminals her only form of safety is Rushe -- one of the criminals but he's different. Rushe and Flick are drawn to each other from day one. He is determined to set her free but both their actions cause Flick deeper into his dangerous world.

Cliffhanger:
Happy ever after (HEA):
Would I recommend this?: YES -- for erotica readers
Especially if you liked Mr. X by Clarissa Wild, Alpha by Jasinda Wilder, Monster In Her Eyes by J.M Darhower or any other dark erotica surrounding kidnapping or crime.
Warning: It contains explicit language and imagery (almost-rape situations and violence)

What I thought:
The book was a great read, I really enjoyed reading about Rushe's characger despite the fact we don't get much background knowledge from him. He was strong, domineering and crude. I love books with tortured heros so I automatically loved Rushe's character! The author did a great job on writing him so that we could connect/feel for him even though we know only bits and pieces of his past. I was very pleased to find out that this is a continuous-book series and cannot wait to read more on Flick and Rushe in the next book Explicit Detail.
" 'No man touches this; no one touches what is mine. You’ll never be touched by another man, not for the rest of your life. You are mine, Felicity. You are my woman, and I belong to you now.' "
Ugh god, Rushe will be the death of me.
Flick's character was weak in the beginning but after meeting Rushe she discovers her sassy attitude and backbone. She learns how to look out for herself as well as Rushe. I really liked her development since I'm not a very big fan of damsel-in-distress heroines, she was very intelligent and strong.
Fangirl section:
DAAAAMMMMMMNNNNN MAAN RUSHE AND FLICK SCENES WERE H-O-T. And just when I thought it couldn't get any hotter..
"Sir,’ he said. ‘Yes, sir.’ ‘Yes, sir,’ she repeated."
YES SIR I CANNOT WAIT TO READ MORE OF THE SERIES.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
‘If I tell you everything... it could put you at risk. But there are people who will assume you know everything, even if you don’t.’ ‘Like Victor did?’ ‘Yeah,’ he said. ‘I don’t know what to do about you.’ 'Keep me chained to your bed,’ she teased. ‘I considered that. But I like screwing you in the shower.’
Took me a while to get into the story , but when I finally did , I enjoyed it ! Flick and Rushe are such a pair . Flick is such a damsel in distress in the beginning of the book that I was kinda worried that she may be those 'door-mat' kinda heroines but as the story progressed , one could totally see the evolution in her character .
Rushe ..... oh my god Rushe ! If you love an alpha male with a dirty mouth and an attitude to boost then Rushe is the man for you !!! Lord .... he doesn't talk much but when he does ... its so intense and dangerous and exciting and arousing and .... and ...
Rushe stopped on the stairs, and the others went out of view, which clearly perturbed him. ‘You don’t want to see this.’ ‘What are you going to do?’ ‘No one touches you,’ he said, letting his gaze touch hers. ‘I love you, Kitten, god damn you woman, I love you.’ ‘I know.’ Flick took his empty hand. ‘I’ll hurt anyone who hurts you,’ Rushe said. ‘There will be consequences for anyone who tries to wrong you.’
I loooooooooved the banter that Flick and Rushe participate in whenever Flick fails to follow Rushe's interaction . Those were the parts that had me snorting out loud ..
‘Did it go well?’ she asked, but received no response. ‘Now what?’ ‘Sex.’ One syllable, and her father had called him a barbarian, how apt. ‘With anyone in particular?’ His knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. ‘I was gonna fuck you slow,’ he said. ‘Now I’m gonna wash that smart mouth of yours out with my spunk, how you feel about that?’ ‘Say ah,’ Flick said, and she countered his glare with a big grin. ‘We’re alive, Rushe. Give it to me anyway you can, while you can.’
Crazy addictive couple. I can't help but rush into the next book :)) HA! Rush lololol The storytelling in this reminds me of KA. Maybe like KA uncensored lolol.
I've missed the more romantic suspense type reads lately, so I'm thrilled to have come across this series.
This book was friggin' AWESOMEsauce plus extra sauce!!! Just what I needed, a little dark, a lot alpha, some suspense and drama plus a h that I didn't want to stab. I put aside reading a new release from one of my favorite all time authors Kristen Ashley because I couldn't put this book down. I swear my KA reading experience was a bit anticlimactic because I couldn't get this book out of my head! I loved everything about this book, sure a few scenarios and situation might have come across far fetched but it's fiction - it fit with the plot & characterization and I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth. This book was beyond steamy - Rushe had a dirty mouth that pushed boundaries & had me blushing throughout the smexy scenes. The story was written well and very little editing issues if at all (I can't remember cos Rushe had me hypnotized - one of my favorite anti-hero *le sigh*). This is my first book from this author and I can't wait to read more. Highly recommend!!! Standalone. Cheating?
I was really looking forward to reading this. I don't want to leave a bad review for this book, but I just couldn't give it 5 stars I probably won't read anymore from this series
On the way to a dinner date one evening, Flick finds herself on the wrong side of town when her cab broke down... ignoring a stranger's warning to stay away, she makes her way inside a bar. The next thing she knew, she's flat on her back and about to be gang raped when the very man who warned her to stay away intervenes, much to her surprise.
Rushe is crude and dangerous--the kind of man they warn you to stay away from--but he is also diverse and intriguing, and Flick couldn't help but get involved with him. Stuck in a shabby house with him along with a bunch of sleazy men (the same ones who tried to rape her) he works with, she doesn't have any choice but to rely on Rushe for survival... and he turns out to be the more dangerous than any one of them.
Scarlett Finn is an excellent and risky storyteller; she gives a whole new meaning to "romantic suspense". The very plot itself keeps you on your toes, the pacing of the story is excellent and the characters are more than engaging and they are consistent throughout the story.
Highly recommended! Warning: some scenes are not for the fainthearted, along with references of torture, rape, murder and trafficking.
This copy was provided by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
What hell did I just read?!?!? I freaking loved the book! I finished early this morning and I couldn't put it down.
This is not your typical romance book. If your looking for hearts and flowers, this is not the book to read for that kind of romancing. This book was gritty, dark, suspenseful, dirty and hot. You just wanted to continue to read on and on. I loved how the author added humor into the story, when things got dark.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series and read more books from this author. A Must Read!
Once you read “Raven” by Scarlett Finn you cannot help but be intrigued about this authors writing style and after having a week from reading hell I really needed something where I could be sure that I would at least be on Board with the writing style.
#hence – me digging into older books by this author and I came up with “Explicit Instructions” …
Again after reading “Raven” (obviously) first – you do notice that the authors writing style developed after writing “Rushe and Flicks” story – but still the style is absolutely and totally “Scarlett Finn”.
Rushe is a character that could (almost) not have been more interesting (if there would not be Raven #laughing … yeah yeah I know its totally freaking obvious that I love Raven).
The Blurb basically says everything you need to know about him – He is abrupt, crude, domineering and most definitely Flicks only hope for survival.
Well until the end of book one in this series I am still not sure if I really like Flick, I can not even pinpoint what it is about her but something ruffles my feathers. I guess I’m spoiled by Swallow (Raven’s other half).
Let’s see how this develops further in the next books of this series as soon as I find the time.
As for the plot … well.. here is where I think I can notice the development in writing style from this author. I felt kind of dropped into the story and even though I was prepared for the writing style I felt a little lost in the beginning.
But thinking about it – that might have happened on purpose to increase the intensity of the story. I admit it worked, still if I am honest – I like to be guided more gently into the story, lets call it foreplay.
The storyline is as simple as it is complicated – which also seems to be a specialty of this author … Nothing is really ever the way it appears – so get used to it ..
Somewhere in the middle of the book I had one “Oh no not AGAIN” moment but other than this the complete story flows perfectly which is a miracle in writing because this author sure likes to twist the story - did I mention – again this is a specialty of this author it seems.
I assume (I will never know for obvious reasons) that If I had read Explicit Instruction before Raven it would have been a 5 Star read.
I hope that Rushe will forgive me for saying this …but “Rushe … where you use the CHAIR to block the door – Raven … USES that chair to (#insert inappropriate words for a review describing naughty thoughts when imagining Raven and the chair)” – and there is nothing you can do about it #shrugging
Let me throw one thought out there… I would love to see those two guys working together …
I knew going into this that it was going to be a dark read, but I had no idea. Some parts were disturbing (intentionally so) but up until now, I had not read a book like it.
It all starts with one event that starts a chain reaction of others that you would never expect on even your worst days. Felicity “Flick” Hughes’ cab breaks down on her way to meet a date. Of course, it breaks down in a bad part of town and she forgot to charge her phone. Tired of waiting for the cabbie, who seems irritated at her for no good reason, she walks in search of a place with a phone. She comes upon Dell’s (a seedy looking bar) and is about to go in when a voice advises her to reconsider. Guess who opens the door anyway? So our story begins.
Flick is a research librarian who is estranged from her wealthy family by her own choice. She does not value the same superficial things they do and therefore she’s considered an outcast. She does not have a lot of experience with men and was not even looking forward to the date in the first place.
Rushe is so mysterious that he’s not even on the grid. He is tough, crude, bossy, and is prone to one word sentences like, “Explain”, “Consent”, or “No”. As brutal as he appears, Flick is not intimidated by him. This guy is the bad boy to end all bad boys. That term seems too mild for him since this guy can be fierce and rattle off some of the dirtiest sex talk that I have ever read. And there are plenty of opportunities to take in the dirty talk as Rushe and Flick have sex a lot.
Like it or not, as things go from bad to worse and Flick gets abducted more than once, Rushe is her best chance at survival and even he tells her not to trust him. Flick is not one to listen to instructions, but she does prove that she can learn how to handle situations with the guidance of her unlikely hero.
This book is not for everyone but it is a good story that is well-written.
I must admit, and I don't normally like to do this, but I really did not enjoy this read. I felt the main characters Rushe and flick!, were totally unrealistic and so were their actions.
Not sure if this was the intention of the writer, but I felt Flick was totally immature in her actions and thoughts. How Rushe kept referring to her as have Stockholme, and still continued in the relationship was farcical . From the outset of Flick entering a bar that she was told not to enter and her actions at this point, I thought my god what the hell am I reading here.
This read has taken me a long time to read, and would have been a good read..I did like the general story line, but it lacked maturity and some realism
5 I loved Rushe stars! This book has everything but an epilogue and I loved it. Flick and Rushe are the most unlikely couple but it totally works. I love a decent romantic suspense, my love for Nora Roberts is no secret, but this story is so much more. if you like dark romance and love characters with more depth than I'm a bad boy so love me you will love this book. now if only I could get an epilogue or a book 2 because I need more.
I honestly wasn't expecting to love this book but it was AMAZING! I loved how unexpected it was and how Rush and Flick's love wasn't simple. It wasn't cliché, and it definitely wasn't easy. They were thrown into each other's lives and made the best out of it together. The passion they hold IS AMAZING. I'd like to thank Maria for recommending me to read this series, it was EXACTLY what I needed I can't wait to read the rest. 5 STARS. 5 FREAKING STARS FOR THIS AMAZING BOOK AND IT'S CHEMISTRY.
Gah. What on earth have I been reading? I don't even know where to start. The writing was a schoolgirl's attempt to write dark erotica. Bad. But the plot... This was a story told the way my 5 year old sister would tell a story: anything goes, it does not have to make any sense whatsoever. There were a lot of totally useless and badly written sex scenes, with a lot of degrading name calling for no other reason then that the author probably thinks that is what makes a dark erotica read.
Ridiculously over the top in every way and on every level, and once again I found myself skipping the sex scenes. But I actually did enjoy Flick's and Rushe's story.
Favorite Quote: ‘I wouldn’t do that if I were you.’
Felicity ‘Flick’ Hughes should have listened to the voice that repeatedly warned her not to enter the bar. Maybe if she had listened then she wouldn’t be in the nightmare she is in now. But Flick was having a horrible day and her cab breaking down was the last straw. Now she finds herself in every woman’s worst nightmare and her only hope of survival is a man who she scares her the most.
Rushe never wanted to be anyone’s savior and fights it every step of the way. He’s crude, dirty mouthed, domineering, and vicious. He takes what he wants, how he wants it, and when he wants it. He warned her, she didn’t listen, and now she has to pay the price. But that price may be higher than either of them imagined.
As Flick and Rushe maneuver their way through the landmines that litter the landscape, trying to stay alive, a connection forms. The further Flick falls down the rabbit hole, the deeper she becomes entangled in Rushe and the pleasure he gives her. When their time together reaches a pinnacle point and danger surrounds them from all sides, Flick knows her life isn’t the only thing she will be fighting for…she’ll also be fighting for her heart.
When I picked up Scarlett Finn’s Explicit Instruction, I was intrigued by the dark captive romance with the premise of a single bad decision changing a woman’s life in the most dangerous and horrific fashion. How often are we warned but choose to go against advice due to pride and or anger? I did it quite a lot when I was younger and paid some heavy prices. Our heroine in here pays the heaviest of prices…she loses her freedom.
Flick is having a very bad day. Bawled out by boss at work, run in her hose, broken heel, late for dinner date, phone goes dead, and cab breaks down. When she sees a bar, she goes to enter only to hear a disembodied voice tell her, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Flick ignores the voice’s repeated attempts to stop her from going in only to find out she should have listened. The bar is being used for meeting and Flick finds herself surrounded by men who tell her in explicit details what they are going to do to her before they kill her. Flick is saved from certain rape by Rushe. Only he is the scariest one of the bunch. Large, dark, and grumpy with dead eyes, Rusch “claims” her in order to keep her safe. Only…who’s going to keep her safe from him?
“I’ll uncuff you, but you’ve got to stay close to me,” he said. “Do as you’re told.” “You’re going to let me go?” “No. I haven’t had my fun with you yet.”
The first half of the book revolves almost exclusively around Flick and her captor. This is not a typical romance. There is no insta love or the trope that a good woman can convert a bad man. This becomes readily apparent by the pains the author takes to let us see just how fundamentally different Flick and Rushe are. Flick comes from an extremely wealthy family and Rushe was raised in foster care. Flick is an innocent in both personality and sexuality while Rushe has seen and done it all multiple times. Rushe sees Flick as a convenient lay and Flick tries to create good will where there is none.
“You’ve been nice to me,” she whispered and he immediately stopped. “What?” “You haven’t threatened me,” she said. “If I shot you, I’d lose my only ally.” “Im not your ally,” he said.
A flat disconnection in the beginning both in story and characters had me wondering if this was just another book of soft porn with a loose unstable storyline. As I was drawn deeper into their story, I began to see the method to Finn’s madness. She breaks our protagonists down, piece by piece, in order to rebuild them as a plausible unit. The shift in the dynamics of their relationship is subtle and I almost missed it. Flick becomes more than a simple captive. She doesn’t change herself but instead releases hidden facets of her personality. Flick reveals a wicked bit of snark and naughtiness to her and in her submission, she discovers her power over Rushe.
“Why do you refer to my dick in the third person?” “You don’t like it if I’m nice to you, and you don’t like being nice to me. So I’ll be nice to your dick, he seems to like me.”
Finn doesn’t sugarcoat Rushe to make him more presentable as a hero. Rather, she uses his reactions to Flick to slowly peel back the layers and reveal the potential in him. He has issues that foreshadow his actions. He is not a nice man. He is a criminal. He is a jerk. His past stinks of violence and death. He does and says things that did not sit well with me and made me question his ability to be in a relationship. Our ability to even remotely relate to him is completely dependant on Flick’s perceptions and gradual surety that they belong together. I admit he pushed many of my buttons, but I applaud the author for keeping his personality in sync with the storyline while allowing us to see the cracks that form in his armor due to his growing regard towards Flick. He fights his attraction for her for as long as he can. He insults her, degrades her, and demoralize her. Anything to get her to run from him as fast as she can.
“Take off your clothes,’ he mumbled. “You want to have sex? A woman is dead and you—‘“ Rushe stopped to glare at her. “I warned you I’d fuck you anytime I wanted. I want you naked, that’s all you’ve got to concern yourself with now.”
Slowly we begin to see a different side to him. His dry wit and rare attempts at tenderness leave readers watching in wonder at the minute changes affecting him. More of his past is revealed that show him to be far more dangerous and complicated than suspected. He and Flick develop a delightful repertoire that is steeped in playfulness and dripping with sexual undertones.
“They’re my breasts,” he said, opening the motel room door. Flick paused to look at him. “What?” “Your breasts?” “Yes,” he said without shame. “Your tits mean more to me than they do to you, so why haggle ownership?” Flick was sure if she hadn’t scared his smile away it might have poked its head over the horizon again. “You’re taking ownership of the breasts attached to my body.” “Yeah. Problem?” “No,” she said, with few other options…….. “Can I have your penis,” she asked. “Now?” he asked. “If you own my breasts…” “We’ll work out a time-share,” he said, swinging them out of the lot and through the dark city streets. “That hardly seems fair. You’ve already laid claim to my vagina, and now you’re claiming my breasts.” “He takes a lot of looking after,” Rushe said.
The storyline is a mixture of lies, deception, and manipulation as Flick learns exactly what Rushe is a part of and why. Fast pacing and intense action whips us through the last part and all the puzzle pieces fall into place, illuminating the entire picture. While the main conflict is somewhat resolved, this is a trilogy and hints are given that nothing is ever over.
There were some issues concerning grammar, spelling, odd phasing/word choices, and some set up confusion. They don’t take from the story but do give you pause.
All in all, Explicit Instruction is a reluctantly engaging romantic deviation with it’s dark content, violent undertones, and unsure conclusion. A dark erotic romance with a psychological suspenseful bent. Though it took me a little while to get Flick & Rushe and some belief suspension was required, I eventually settled in the story and came to see what the attraction of this dark horse was for Flick. I admit I am now more than a little curious to see where Finn will take this unlikely couple in the future.
That's what you need to do with this book. 'Cause it's dangerous. Just like Rushe, the dark 'hero' of this book. He's mean, he's nasty and he will push things inside of you right over the edge. This isn't your mama's Alpha. Leave your sexual hang-ups at the door if you are going to proceed with this one.
Should you really open that door, though? Even knowing what lurks behind it?
After Flick opens a door in a seedy neighborhood, she will never be the same again. I don't think I will after reading this book either. It plants everything you think you knew about romantic suspense right on its a**.
Flick, our seemingly quiet little protagonist finds herself in the hands of some very, very bad men. Gang rape, torture and murder seem the likely end to her story, but then the scariest of a very scary bunch saves her. But Rushe won't leave her body, or her heart unscarred.
I like that the author didn't try and pretty Rushe up, or despite some mid-book speculation, make him something he is not. I love how, despite being incredibly over her head, Flick finds her inner strength believably and becomes pretty badass herself. I was also in total awe at how she was able to get to the core of Rushe, when most women would have been left a sobbing, broken mess.
This is a simply scorching, stunning book. 5 neon stars.
This book was HOT!!!! Rushe was HOT! The dirty talk was HOT!!! The whole thing was HOT!!!
Just imagine one wrong move can change the course of your life completely? This is what happens to Flick - she walks into the wrong place at the wrong time and her life will never be the same again.. Beaten, humiliated, threatened with rape and torture amongst other things, this love story is a surprise....
Rushe protects Flick by claiming her as his own and in turn loses a part of himself to her...
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I think I'll go back and reread it again.... The dialogue between Flick and Rushe is awesome... Very snappy and witty and adds a little lightness to an otherwise heavy storyline.
We would all like our own Rushe to keep us safe and be our big strong Alpha... And that's why I love this genre! We may think ourselves as strong independent women, but I know I'd love a big string man to watch out for me and keep me safe and yes I am married, but we all need our secret fantasies! Wish hubby would talk to me like Rushe dirty talks Flick- phew !!!! I'd never leave the bedroom and I reckon we'd have more than two kids!!! Hahahahahaha
This was OK. Pretty dark and intense. What happens when Felicity "Flick" (hate the nick name by the way) doesn't listen to a stranger's (Rushe) warning and wonders into a place that will bring extreme danger? That's the premise of the book. I liked Rushe, the bad ass alpha with the filty mouth. He was smart, dangerous and sexy. Flick got on my nerves and had me rolling my eyes a few times because at times, she was just dumb. . She got a little better towards the end of the book but that may also be because, by then, the pace had picked up and there's was quite a bit of action and suspense going on.
There is drama, action, suspense and some HOT CONSENSUAL SEX
All on all an OK read. Will read book 2 to see where it goes.
I love a story with a strong female lead who does not break easy and has a kick ass attitude mixed with a hot, domineering sexy as sin male!!! There is evil lurking in Explicit Instruction, it is dark and disturbing and it it so worth the journey! The story line is fast pased and the sexual heat is blazing! I picked up this book and could not put it down until the final page! The secondary characters you meet close to the end of the story are intriquing and I hope to meet them again in a follow up book along with more of Rushe and Flick! Rushe is definitely my new book boyfriend… i'd follow him into his world! A great read for all of you dark book readers that love a hot man and strong woman!
If you are thinking this will be a hearts and flowers type of love story. Let me tell you right away it is not that. It is raw, real, a bit dark, and completely enthralling.
Rushe is not your typical 9 to 5 hero. He has a dark past, a complex story and is tough as nails. Nonetheless, you will fall head over heels for him and root for him to get the girl. Flick, has always known she doesn't belong in her family fold. She is now starting a new life away from them and trying to see what she is missing.
A chance encounter that leads to a road of intrigue, passion, and danger is a ahead of them.
You will be absorbed in this tangled web surrounding them and will not be able to put the book down. I absolutely recommend this book to everyone.
