Not very good. Only positives is it was short and wasn’t a confusing science fiction story to follow. The characters essentially acted like book 1 in this series never happened. Also Jefferson is just a terrible person and protagonist, like no one likes him including the reader. For example he asked his intel officer to run something for him, the officer said we can’t do that because of xyz (very valid reason) and Jefferson is like “I’m not asking, if you can’t do you job, why are you here.” And it’s like that with every interaction he has. Gave this series a second opportunity after not liking the first book either, and I can safely say I won’t be giving the rest of the series a chance any time soon. Also this author has a man crush on General Custer, he is mentioned at least 4 times in the first book and 3 times in this one. Find some other war leaders idk.

Because I'm desperate for good military science fiction, I'm willing to overlook the fact that Jefferson is hard to like. What I do like is action. In this book, Col. Jefferson's Tenth Interplanetary Infantry is called to help colonists attacked by bullet-headed aliens on Zeti Alpha-seven. They plunge into chaos and come up fighting.

Fortunately, Col. Jefferson has now matured as a soldier and is less of a dork. He leads troops who know their business. The military action is fun. It's a fast read. I liked it.

Good military SiFi series. The writer gives a good feel for military life and attitudes. Recommended
