What if everything you thought was funny about Deadpool...was actually just disturbing? What if he decided to kill everyone and everything that makes up the Marvel Universe? What if he actually pulled it off?
Cullen grew up in rural North Carolina, but now lives in the St. Louis area with his wife Cindy and his son Jackson. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. In addition to The Sixth Gun, his current projects include Crooked Hills, a middle reader horror prose series from Evileye Books; The Tooth, an original graphic novel from Oni Press; and various work for Marvel and DC. Somewhere along the way, Cullen founded Undaunted Press and edited the critically acclaimed small press horror magazine, Whispers from the Shattered Forum.
All writers must pay their dues, and Cullen has worked various odd jobs, including Alien Autopsy Specialist, Rodeo Clown, Professional Wrestler Manager, and Sasquatch Wrangler.
And, yes, he has fought for his life against mountain lions and he did perform on stage as the World's Youngest Hypnotist. Buy him a drink sometime, and he'll tell you all about it.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, if that title doesn't inspire chills from excitement and fear down your spine then i don't know why you are reading this review. A different take on Deadpool's character showcasing what he is capable of, two voices inside his head and so much blood, gore and death around. WOW count me in for that. But is it gonna be good?
HMMM! Yes and no.. If you are a fan of this character you won't end up loving this series, but you will have some fun with it nonetheless. So i guess that's a win, mostly. I wasn't crazy about the artwork and Deadpool's natural charisma and cynical humor were amiss but i liked the premise of the series, and to be honest, the killing.
I will definitely read the rest of the series and continue with reviews. "The Merc with a Mouth" crazier than ever goes berserk and massacres everything the Marvel universe stands for. And he will be last one to die, just like a cockroach.
Although an interesting concept and a fun take, in some instances it kind of nullifies the legitimacy of a few marvel characters by having them die rather trivially.
This will have spoilers, but really, this is Deadpool. Killing the Marvel Universe. You know what you're getting.
I needed a Deadpool fix so I picked this up.
It was good, brutal and dark but still with a little bit of humour. The kind of humour that The Joker inspires, the kind that you laugh at, then realize what you're laughing at, then you kind of feel like shooting yourself in the head because you're an awful person.
This is one of those "Deadpool has 2 extra voices in his head that also seem to hate him" stories and I'm not a fan of that take on the character, but it used it to it's advantage here by silencing them and bringing in a new voice.
Sadly, it was rather predictable and it called to mind another Deadpool story wherein Deadpool realizes he's in a comicbook (I think it was in Deadpool #900 but maybe not.) and it just worked better in that one.
The art was kid of iffy, (Torn cloth is supposed to look like phone cords, not hula skirts! (Yep, Sam Kieth reference, aw yeah!)) not really solid and Deadpool looked kind of doughy, but the artists managed to get a lot of expression out of him. Though they seem to really like dislocating Deadpool's jaw. The opening kills were absolutely chilling, so kudos to the artist for that.
By far, (to me) the most memorable part of the whole story was how Deadpool dealt with X-23 and Daken, and it revealed something about Deadpool himself. It was horrific and sadistic and made me all sorts of "Nooo!" because I really want Deadpool and X-23 to have many angsty trysts someday. But that's what fanfiction is for.
Paper thin story, brutal deaths, questionable art and I still felt satisfied in the end. So if you're a Deadpool fan, or a fan of gore, or just want to see another take on Deadpool, pick it up.
The fourth wall breaking was so good it gave me chills. "WHO were you talking to?"
Deadpool going berserk is something is akin to when you watch something gruesome and it is beautiful and captivating and you can't tear your eyes away from it. Beauty in terror, and this is embodiment of that.
You can feel something fundamentally slide and shift within Deadpool. The utter detachment with which he murders everyone and at the same time the determination that burns through him is palpable and puts you on edge.

So for some reason, the heroes of Earth decide to get Deadpool the help he needs with the hopes that he becomes.. less insane? Idk, but the doctor in charge is actually not a doctor but Psycho-Man in disguise and he hopes to control Deadpool for his own nefarious purposes. Naturally, the experiment fails and Deadpool becomes even more unhinged to the point that he decides to start murdering Earth's heroes and supervillains.
Great idea, plenty of gore and action to keep fans of rated R happy and satisfied.

A very solid start to this dark and twisted tale, Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #1 is less zany and witty than many other Deadpool adventures, as the title may signify, but still as brilliantly iconoclastic and meta. This first issue also ends with a highly intriguing set up for the rest of the story.
