Jonathan Hickman is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for creating the Image Comics series The Nightly News, The Manhattan Projects and East of West, as well as working on Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, FF, and S.H.I.E.L.D. titles. In 2012, Hickman ended his run on the Fantastic Four titles to write The Avengers and The New Avengers, as part the "Marvel NOW!" relaunch. In 2013, Hickman wrote a six-part miniseries, Infinity, plus Avengers tie-ins for Marvel Comics. In 2015, he wrote the crossover event Secret Wars. - Wikipedia
This is a great start to a promising event and after the fiasco (not really though) of that was Age of Ultron, it is great to have this epic space opera as Marvel's final major salvo for the year.
If you're planning to stick to the main miniseries, I suggest you get the Avengers books that Jonathan Hickman also writes. Based on a handy chart made by Hickman, those actually are part of the main story too. This is actually a 16 part epic.
I have to admire Marvel's marketing push for this issue, it was everywhere. I even got a digital copy of the it from the Facebook game I always play, Marvel Avengers Alliance, which also had a side quest related to this story.
I really like the digital version of this comic. It also comes with the Infinite comic so that's why this pushed to 142 pages.
I really like where this story is going (reading this in recommended reading order with Avengers and New Avengers) but the characters seemed a bit lifeless in this volume.
There's an entire slew of characters in this event which is awesome, but I'm hoping they will have a bit more substance as it continues.
1) Infinity, has Thanos planning for his attack on Earth as he sends a messenger to find the "hidden one". The color and art is excellent and way above average
2) The Final Flower, has Thanos in a battle with Drax the Destroyer as Drax tries to prevent Thanos from crushing a precious flower. This is a reprint from the 60's (I think) and the retro look is fabulous
3) Avengers: Endless Wartime, has Steve Rogers (Captain America) trying to adjust to the new world he finds himself living in
This is a Free Comic Book Day release with comiXology and Kindle. I wasn’t expecting much from this, even with Marvel’s Infinity War having just released the trailer, knowing that this was just a FCBD release, hoping to get more people into the actual comic line as a marketing strategy. However, the cover does look absolutely amazing. I love the way Thanos is peering through with the shattered images of numerous heroes surrounding him on what I can only presume is the Infinity Gauntlet. This is merely the opening pages of the comic line, a what happens before issue #1, and with a sneak peek to Endless War OGN, I just know only 47% of this is going to be Infinity.
I honestly didn’t really expect to like this. I saw a free Marvel comic and got excited and immediately hit buy now.
The first thing I notice is that the art work is absolutely spectacular.
I love this. It’s dark, it’s almost grungey, and it’s obvious that the illustrators, Jim Cheung and Mike McKone, worked hard for this, despite it just being a little free download.
The story line in this was really well done, and really encapturing, but it was just too short, as usual. I would love to read more in this, but there’s the downside of most of the comics released with comiXology have more ads than they do comic, and I’m a little apprehensive to have a look further into this.
However, this is a really good read, and I definitely recommend it.
Decent book, always love Thanos. Cant beat it for value despite not really having a storyline. Its basically an ad for the actual series.
Its a good book by good writers, but basically just an ad to hook you into the real series. Can't beat the price though, especially if you're just looking getting interested in comics.
Vedremo.
Doing my homework before Infinity War... But this was hard to jump into, as it seems there's a lot of history building up to this event. Still, good to get a refresher on the gems and to meet the Black Order. I'll try a few more issues to see how I get on.
Ridiculous, the Outrider can do it to Wolverine? Wolverine can't smell them? And to S.H.E.I.L.D. facility? This is a flaw in this issue and will be a flaw throughout.
¿Puedo hablar de lo mucho que me encanta todo? Es que Steve al final fue lo mejor del mundo y la partesita donde hubo un cómic de hace tiempo, soy lágrimas
This FCBD issue has three stories hyping up bigger events and series. One is an older reprint and the others are hyping up newer events. Really cool to have!
Infinity #1 sets up the newest and one of the biggest Marvel events. Involving a cast spanning The Avengers, The Illuminati, The Builders, The Inhumans, Spaceknights, a couple of X-Men, Skrulls, and Thanos, Infinity will turn Earth and other parts of the universe into battlegrounds for epic interstellar warfare.
As mentioned above, the cast alone will be reason enough for someone to look up recent progression on Marvel NOW series. Thankfully, the internet helps new readers like me with that as a lot of back-story on the continuity helps with identifying who the characters are and what's their beef in all this.
One good thing is that Infinity cuts into what seems to be "Chapters" in the issue. This gives you a sense of what's going on throughout the story. A majority of the plot itself happens outside of Earth. The parts on the Inhumans and the Builders were the most interesting and exciting.
The issue also comes with a free tie-in on the Silver Surfer who tries to rescue the Skrulls from the builders. There's a lot to look forward to in the next issue of this event with 5 more scheduled to be on the way.
It's an event that's been slapped on the cover of every Avengers title written by Hickman and some other books too but Infinity is finally here. Now what is it exactly?
Infinity looks to be another multi-part epic that involves several big players. First off we have the Avengers that have expanded their ranks, covered in the issues of Hickman's Avengers series, we also have Thanos, the Inhumans and Hickman's new enemies, the Builders. This first issue has excellent art provided by Jim Cheung who did the covers for Avengers versus Xmen but the story is hard to judge this early in the game. Certainly a lot has been set up but only later issues will reveal whether this will be a tight knit story or whether this is simply the next "BIG EVENT" that Marvel throws at us such as Fear Itself or AvX. For now it looks like we'll be seeing a lot of action in issues to come and things start off with a bang let's hope Hickman can keep the momentum.
Marvel's latest Event starts off well with Hickman cleverly executing all the pieces you expect in a first issue - but the characters feel flat and lifeless. Ouch. So yeah, Hickman's problems with character continue in his ambitious cosmic tale where it looks like we get another retelling of Infinity Gauntlet. Read the full review here!
Yet another comic about Thanos' process of conquering the universe. Corvus Glaive and an Outrider can be seen. We see what happens when Thanos discovers a new planet. I also liked the ending hinting that Earth is next. Also, the two short bonus comics at the end were a nice touch.
I started the Infinity Event with the New Avengers Tie-in, so I decided to buy the Infinity parts seperately as well. Part 1 of Infinity was okay. Not exactly exciting since I knew what was coming from the New Avengers.
