Alaskan Romance #1

Two Cabins, One Lake

Rate this book
Helly is a volatile blonde with a passion for fishing, a grudging tolerance for the fishermen she guides, and a part-time job putting her sexual fantasies in writing. She lives a quiet life in the Alaskan bush, alone on her little lake with only a spooky dog and her gun collection for company.

But then Gary, the most obnoxious man Helly’s ever met, roars into her life. The mysterious helicopter pilot moves into the cabin across the lake with a vengeance. And fire. And karaoke. He’s a despicably early riser with a penchant for public indecency, a talent for trespassing… and he’s handsome as the devil, with abs she’d like to lick.

Helly quickly realizes her little lake isn’t big enough for the two of them. After an initial attempt at being reasonable, and responsible, and mature, she gives up—and gives as good as she gets. What follows is a feud of eardrum-battering intensity; a no-holds-barred water fight to the tune of a screaming chainsaw, with her panties caught in the crossfire.

Just when Helly thinks things couldn’t possibly get any worse, her crazy brothers crash the party. In an unforgiving land where even the wildlife is out for blood, can the pair survive long enough for Gary to capture Helly’s heart, along with her wrists? Or will Gary’s past be the final blow, after Helly loses her boat, her dignity, and what’s left of her ammo?

For lovers of Alaskan romance and romantic comedy, Two Cabins, One Lake is a sexy, standalone contemporary romance novel with action & adventure, a splash of mystery & suspense, and a satisfying conclusion. Take a vacation to Alaska, where everything's bigger & wilder. You'll laugh out loud!

It's never a good sign when you're six pages in & the FMC's inner ramblings already have you like ..

description

Set Up

Wild, remote Alaska. FMC owns a cabin. She's getting a new neighbor, the MMC, in the cabin a couple hundred feet from her. Air and water only access. She's an erotic romance writer and fishing guide. He's rich.

So It Begins

Alcohol, bbq, coolers, & people = party. It really doesn't take a multi-page hypothesis and grumbling on what might be going on a couple hundred feet away at her new neighbor's house, complete with bird's eye view from her binoculars. I'm already trying to tune this bitch out because the grumbling makes her appear like a bitter old hag...

description

Debauchery, she says.

description

This erotic romance writer's
idea of debauchery? Loud music and drinking. The horrors...

description

"Because everything is better with cheese. Life is better with cheese.

description

The nerve of a new neighbor in the middle of nofuckingwhere having a party on The Fourth Of July. It all has her "Incensed," "Fit to be tied," and ready to "smite" a motherfucker.

description

"The blaring gaiety.."

description

Basically, this is that chick... The one that knows everything, grumbles about everything, and begrudges everyone having the slightest hint of fun.

It's a horrible way to introduce a character and open a book, and I came very close to throwing the shit down the DNF tube. But I didn't. I should've, but I didn't because..

It Improves Momentarily

The crazy ass chick kinda grew on me once she stopped sitting around grumbling.

"Now, unhand my canoe."

"I threw the shovel down- the temptation to hit him with it too great - and made a beeline for the bastard in the green shirt."

".. a nose that looked like it'd been punched one too many times- but not nearly enough."

She's kinda fucking funny as this turns into the Alaskan version of "A Neighbor From Hell" series sorta book.

I'll admit that the one-up.. 'I hate you, but your hot as hell' stuff was well done.

A Mixed Bag Of Trying Too Hard And OTT Funny

What she does to his tools? Funny.

When she jumps in the lake with a fish - hilarious. OTT funny.

Describing how your brother's junk smells when you wake up facing his crotch? Not funny.

Having exhibition sex two feet from your sleeping brothers? Not funny.

Long-winded 'remember when' stories? Not funny.

Asking a nice guy with a crush on you for help all the time and then saying this to him as he is just coming to check and see if you're okay after an argument with an ex:

"Ed, I've been using you for your mechanical skills. I don't want you. I'm not interested in you, I'm not attracted to you, and I don't want to go out with you. I don't want you to ask me how I am or bring me beers or do me favors. I just want you to leave me alone. Please.

description

Writing

1. Stop fucking making me read shit three times.

description

The FMC does x,y, z. I'm told her thoughts and the scene. Then, I'm retold the same thoughts and scenes again as she tells it to her friend in dialogue. Sometimes, I'm even told the shit a third time in a recap as she's thinking about it agin later in the book.

It's a 268 page book that ended at 92%, and I would estimate that 30-40 of the pages throughout the book involve retelling scenes.

2. Dialogue?

description

What the hell happened to it?

There are long stretches of book with NO DIALOGUE. Long ass narratives on this or that, inner monologues that go on for miles, & huge blocks of info dumping.

Then...

The dialogue that is there is so superficial and trying so hard at funny that it lacks meaning. It lacks the substance that's needed to connect FMC & MMC in any meaningful way to make this anything other than a prank/fuckfest.

Here's a perfect example at 70% in the book :

"Was it irresponsible of me not to have gathered the last name of my lover? Probably.

description

I won't even get into the fact these two have been having pull-out sex with NO CONDOMS AND NO BIRTH CONTROL when they don't even know each other's last names.

Plot

She hates him.

He hates her.

They try to one-up each other and like to get each other wet (literally and figuratively).

Her caveman meets Keanu Reeves brothers come to visit. I guess this is so there's acts some dialogue. Anyhow.

FMC and MMC start fucking like bunnies. Sex scenes on repeat where he's sooooo soooo fucking good that she passes out and can't formulate words occur every two or three pages.

description

This book is tagged as Erotica and Erotic Romance. I'll just let you judge that...

84%...

Him: Be my submissive.

Her: Okay.

Him: Take off my clothes with your teeth.
Lick down my chest, but don't touch my dick.

Her: What, why can't I give you a blow job.

Him: Because you want to, but you can lick my legs, feet, etc.

Her: Oh, that's some dumb insanity and why women have vibrators

Her pout must've gave it away because he literally says...

Him: "Oh, fine"

Cue doggie-style.

Her: "...like a stallion covering a mare. It felt a lot like submission. Surrender."

The FMC is an erotic romance writer, you said?

Writing pussy and fuck every breath does not an erotica make. Vanilla sex on repeat does not an erotica make. Being stupid about birth control does not an erotica make.

Anyway...

86%...

Finally, it's time to close up this fuckfest with some kind of explanation on why he's a rich, helicopter pilot, sniper, former Marine who's decided to move to wild Alaska.

Most pitiful, fantastic(fuckawad)al wrap-up in the history of books.

description

*** Don't read this if you don't want spoilers.***

Just out the wild blue damn Alaskan sky, a bunch of mob fuckers show up and shoot the fucking place apart. Everyone springs into action. MMC is sharp shooting mofos and breaking necks. The. Day. Is. Saved. Police arrive and pat everyone on the back for killing the bad guys.

Now, all that's left to do is explain to the FMC.

He left the military and got hustled into becoming a hitman for the mob; see, he thought he was just saving the world of evil while getting rich so he could be a helicopter pilot.... He didn't know he was working for bad, bad, bad men ...

description

When he discovered the truth , he turned rat, put all the mob leaders in jail, refused WPP, and decided to move to Alaska with all his money and wise stock investing. I wonder if the mob had a 401k? Anyways...

A party, fire, and throwing money around like a douche helped him blend in amongst the natives.

description

Can't imagine how they ever found him ~?!?~ Dear author, even OTT humor has a line between nonsense and humor. This. Is. Nonsense.

Of course, she understands - no questions asked and we skip ahead a month later to a blueberry bush and HEA.

Bottom Line

description

But, every time I thought I'd put it down for good, I'd laugh at something.

Erotica: NEGATIVE 10 I've seen more erotic
Lifetime movies stars

Romance : a 1 I don't even know your last name as you pull out of my unprotected puss star.

Comedy/humor: 2 hit and miss stars.

Military : a 0 the only "Military" here is that you are told he was a marine and then told he was a marine sniper star.

1 1/2 stars.

This enemies-to-lovers romance is over-the-top in all ways: humor, personality, twisty ending and alpha sex. I'm telling you right now, my tame review doesn't do justice to Marlow's dynamic writing and warped imagination.

Helly's our girl, a fishing guide and part-time erotica author living in a sparsely populated area of Alaska. She loves her isolated life, lives in comfy flannel and spends her summer days baiting hooks for greenies. Unfortunately, up with the fish means an early morning, which is ruined by the late-night antics of Helly's new neighbor, the buff, beautiful and smugly complicit Gary. She exacts revenge, and the battle between her and Gary for dominance of property line and personal life is the source of much of the humor in this contemporary romance.

"Take your pants. Off," he ordered, his voice guttural. I grinned. "Can I hear a 'please'?" He lifted his head slightly, fixing me with one dark eye. "You can hear a 'now.'"

This book is filled with little gems of interaction between Helly and Gary. She is a truly unique heroine, molded from childhood into the hellion she is due to three older brothers. She proves again and again that she can hold her own and certainly doesn't need a man, as much as she might want one in particular. Their no-holds-barred, physical and vocal sparring reminds me a little of The Honeymooners or The Flintstones. And Helly is Jackie Gleason/Fred Flintstone.

Gary is inordinately turned on by this audacious woman who is his neighbor. Shaye Marlow's talent shines since readers can see this even though very little in the book is written from Gary's perspective. The target shooting scene is one of my favorites.

"He looked at my target for a long moment, and then he looked at me. And if his glances all day long had been hot, this one ought to have been measured in Kelvin."

Marlow does a good job of escalating the lust between these two, especially given their lack of privacy due to Helly's three brothers camped out for days on her living room floor. The sexual tension leaps off the page, thwarted only to a certain degree by the brothers. I have only two words to describe the brothers: Wild. Things.

"My furniture had been rearranged, my favorite lamp was lying on the floor at a drunken angle, and my whole living room smelled like potato chips and ass. Day one, I thought with a sigh."

What keeps this book a page turner is the unpredictability of the characters. From one scene to the next you have no idea if what happens will be a practical joke, a complete disaster or hotter than hell. The ending has a surprise twist, too. The characters are true to themselves, but their utter boldness is refreshing and makes this book unlike anything else I've ever read.

This was a hilarious enemies to lovers story. I really liked the heroines character. there were 2 things that kept this from being a 5 star read for me. one was that the heroine encounters the hero with 2 other women. granted they weren't a couple yet but I could have easily done without the OW. I know a lot of my "safe read" friends would be the same. the second thing is that the last 20% of this book felt rushed. It pretty farfetched and ended with a HFN. I just wasn't pleased upon closure. I guess I was just left wanting more. I still plan to check out more of this writer's work. I really liked the writing style and humor .

If you don't take it too seriously...

I don't...I mean I can't take Erotica too seriously. It's been a wee while since I've read an erotic story because I don't tend to go looking for them. Some are too short and it's a wham bam, thank you, ma'am, followed by "I'll love you forever" that makes me scoff. Others are so far removed from reality that you're worried about the characters safety and scared that anyone can be this depraved. Then you get the ones that are sex for the sake of sex, no connection or feelings whatsoever. Sometimes, you manage to stumble across a little treat that gives you a wee bit of smut mixed with a touch of a storyline. That little treat may make your eyes roll but also manages to make you laugh, squirm and sigh. Two Cabins, One Lake was a little treat.

When I say don't take it too seriously, it probably comes from the place of an eye-rolling, old-timer (old in a sceptical, dubious and cynical kind of way) who looks upon pranks as childish shenanigans. Who, looks at a couple who "hate" each other one minute then proceeds to jump each other's bones then next, as improbable. I'm also the person who rolls their eyes when a fairly easy moving storyline suddenly turns into a shoot-em-up, "I'm a wanted man..." kind of thing. But, in the end, this can also be what makes an erotic story entertaining. It's an escape from reality.

While I was entertained with Two Cabins, One Lake, I did find it a little confronting dealing with the realities of living somewhere like Alaska and what carrying a gun is for. Wild animals can and will kill you if given the chance. Having a gun and carrying could mean life or death if you are facing a bear. I get that. But, to then have to see the flipside of gun carrying when the characters come face to face with human evil, it's a little harder to find the right or wrong.

So, I really enjoyed Two Cabin, One Lake and I'm seriously considering going on in the series. I will be leaving my scepticism, dubiousness and cynicism outside the door when I start, though. If you're looking for humorous shenanigans, likable characters and a wee bit of kinky in your sexy times, I definitely recommend.

I loved this book!! Wonderfully written story about a female kick ass fishing guide living a quiet life on the shores of a small Alaska lake when she gets a new neighbor. Our fishing guide also writes erotic romance novels on the side for supplemental income.

The new drop dead gorgeous neighbor moves in with his own helicopter, which he flies frequently at all hours, in addition to pounding nails as he remodels his new home when our poor, exhausted fishing guide needs her sleep. A disaster is obviously waiting to happen in this formerly quiet corner of the world.

And it does...revenge followed by some of the best steamy, hot sex scenes I've ever read and enjoyed. I adored these two main characters. The only criticism I might have with the story was that our helicopter guy turned out to have quite a back story and a little OTT action happened at the end...followed by hot, steamy sex so I forgave that little blip.

A great read!

Wow what a surprise - a fabulous read.

It was warm, witty, laugh out loud funny with some of the best chemistry and hottest smut I've ever read. And I am no stranger to smut.

She's a unique kind of heroine, a gun toting, fiercely independent, plain speaking woman. She lives alone in a cabin next to a lake in Alaska. A new neighbour moves into the other cabin over the lake and he's noisy and annoying but also kind of attractive. So we have this great tension that makes for some fab lust. Did I mention the smut?

She has three brothers who come to visit who clearly love her to bits, but they're annoying as hell too, so we get the warmth and humour of these funny family scenes which I absolutely loved. There was even a bit of jeopardy at the end. No silly drama or tstl behaviour, just a really engaging, romantic and funny read. With great snut.

If you enjoy Penny Reid and Helena Hunting rom coms with a heart and plenty of wit instead of daft slapstick then you'll love this.

Standalone, complete story and a freebie. What's not to love? Highly recommended. I'm off to see what else this author's written.

What a delightful romantic comedy! This story takes place in a rural area of Alaska, where a loner of a girl (Haley, but nicknamed Helly) lives by herself in a cabin. She likes her life. During the summers she works as a fishing guide and on the side she writes erotic fiction, which pays the bills in the winter. Then a new neighbor (Gary) moves into the cabin next door and between his helicopter, fourth of July party and renovation of his cabin at 6am, Helly is seeing red. But she's not the kind of girl to sit quietly idle. No, she wants to get even. And so begins a hilarious back and forth between the two neighbors who find that despite this feud going, their physical chemistry is stronger than their need for revenge. Just as things are starting to heat up, her three big brothers come to visit and hilarity ensues, as the need to out prank each other clearly started years ago between her and her brothers. Her brothers have chased away all her previous boyfriends, so what will happen when they figure out what's going on between her and Gary? Throw in some fishing, a large brown bear, more shenanigans, steamy scenes and a big secret Gary is keeping about his work and this book is full of adventure and steam. I loved every minute of this book and read it from start to finish in one sitting. This is definitely going in my "favorites" and "books I'll read again" shelves.

We meet Helly Hanson. She is a fishing guide during most of the summer, and in the winter she lives off her royalties since she also writes Erotic Romances.

Helly loves living in the middle of nowhere, Alaska. She can write in with the peace as there are hardly any neighbors and she can be left to her own company which she really loves. That is until she gets a new neighbor, The people across the lake have sold their house to a guy...Gary. This begins the "Across the Lake - Neighbour Wars"... Alaskan style with everything from gunshot holes in her lacy underwear, to burning patches of blueberries, and the worse...being awoken at 4in the morning by the noise of his 'ever-loving" chainsaw.

As the bickering goes on and the petty fights continue, we also see some chemistry developing, and not just on the pages. To appease the fans of erotica, there are snippets of Helly's manuscripts and the pair of them acting out their sexual fantasies. Two Cabins, One Lake was a bit of a slow read, and though I did enjoy the warring neighbors and the backwoods setting. I am still more partial to other romance series.

I am not in any way, a fan of "cozy- type romances"...but this sounded bearable and it was for a group challenge category...so I thought "what the heck"? Go for it! Parts of it were really funny...parts were really aggravating and over the top just plain silly. I thought that these two characters were more of what you could imagined that a really "backwoods character", from any of the 50 states, would behave like....not two adult tourist who were only going to be there for a short time.

Laugh out loud funny! Helly was just the right amount of heroine : Tough, challenging with a little bit of vulnerability sprinkled on top. I just wish the ending would have given a better picture of where they stood at the end. I mean I know they're together but how committed? I dunno I guess I need that kinda closure to feel the ending of a story. It just felt unfinished. That aside I will definitely check more of her books out. Her writing style is right up my alley .

Naughty, Naughty.....

A comedic look at what happens when an independent woman living in the wilds of Alaska meets a strong-willed man who invades her personal and pristine slice of beauty. The fire of retribution is only eclipsed by the sexual fire between them.

Helly (you'll have to read to understand) has lived on a beautiful small lake in the wilds of Alaska since she'd help her brothers build her cabin at the ripe old age of twenty-one. She'd shared that same lake with only one other cabin owned by an elderly couple that only came a few times through the warmer months. That was until Gary showed up Fourth of July weekend with his loud shiny helicopter and with his loud partying group of visitors.

How's a girl supposed to write with a noise like that? Helly supplements her guiding income by writing erotic romance stories and a helicopter, drunken tourists, incredibly loud music, and fireworks are not conducive to writing a steamy sex scene.

Trying to mind her own business while having homicidal thoughts about her new neighbor spirals out of control when the unthinkable happens. The incident involves Helly's prized wild Blueberries. War has been declared.

Gary is an unknown and Helly would just as soon leave it that way but her hormones seem to be on a completely different wavelength than her brain and since Gary has become the vision of her steamy stories it's clear that her brain might not be as committed to murdering him as she'd like.

Things come to head when Helly's brothers come to destroy...err...visit and Gary's past comes back to haunt him and the resulting body count may kill any budding relationship with Helly.

Be prepared to laugh and get a little-heated reading this tale and if the bonus chapter of the next book is an indicator it looks to be even hotter.

The first 85% of this enemies to lovers story is funny and very unusual. There were pranks, revenge and lots of hot sex all over the place all set in the isolated Alaskan bush. This is the sort of setting I want to read more about - I love a '(wo)man v's wild' theme.

But then the story went in a crazy direction that made me pretty unhappy actually.

We have an inkling earlier on in the story when the characters get out their collection of assorted guns and have an awesome time shooting away in the backyard. I was surprised, but put it down to the gun culture in the US and perhaps a need for a variety of weapons to protect against bear attack.

Then, unexpectedly, just before the end of the book an event happens which is so disturbing and OTT that I just cannot get my head around

I stumbled across this book and was instantly drawn by the enemies to lovers scenario. I'm a total sucker for a heroine and hero who hate each other at first, and the "abs she'd like to lick" line in the blurb hinted at something sexy.

And boy, is Two Cabins, One Lake sexy! It builds up at a steady pace with loads of sexual tension and frustration on Helly's behalf, and when the tension breaks, holy wow, it goes off like Gary's fourth of July fireworks in Helly's blueberry patch.

Shaye Marlow's characters are original and intriguing. I loved that Helly is not your average woman and she's totally comfortable with who she is. I loved her relationship with her siblings, which was precisely as you would imagine it would be for a woman growing up with three brothers. And I loved that Gary remained a mystery right to the end - but I can't say anymore about that without giving too much away.

Two Cabins, One Lake is fast-paced, original, fun and sexy. It's well worth a read if you're looking for a little escape.

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author, whom I've never read before, with a request for an honest review. As I do nothing but honest reviews, I am so pleased to say that book was a delight to read! I laughed out loud, snorted in womanly outrage and agreement with Helly, and completely related to her outrageous siblings and revenge seeking shenanigans (flaming penis machine! bwahahaha!!).
Gary is so present to be obnoxiously a pain (blueberry murderer, HA!) yet deliciously mysterious, gorgeous and oh so good at giving Helly the tinglies!!
I can't recommend this book enough. It was fabulous, and I can't wait to read more of Ms. Marlow's novels! *giddy goosebumps!*

This book was exactly what I was looking for. An unexpected romance between two feuding neighbors, a couple fun brothers, throw in a twist, with a few laugh out louds and you found the recipe for a great book! I couldn't put the book down and ended up with a sleepless night as a result. There are a few steamy scenes which were just right and not over the top. I appreciate that they were tastefully incorporated, not rushed, and that the book was about more than just sex scene. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author!

AS I READ I KEPT WONDERING DO THEY SELL BUG REPELANT IN ALASKA, IF SO WHY DOESEN’T ANYBODY USE IT? WITH THE THREAT OF WEST NILE VIRUS, YOU’D THINK THEY WOULD BE BATHING IN THE STUFF (go figure). LOTS OF SEXUAL TENSION PAGES AND PAGES OF IT ALONG WITH HOT STEAMY SEX. HELLY IS LIVING THE PEACEFUL LIFE OF AN ALASKIAN MOUNTIAN WOMAN (almost nomadic) BUT HORNIER THAN A HORNY TOAD, ENTER GARY. HE IS AWAKENING ALL KINDS OF LONG BURIED SEXUAL FEELINGS IN HER. ;D

I loved this book. I’d seen it advertised on my kindle a few times and thought the blurb was decent. I tried to find it on my own with no success, then it showed up on my kindle again so I thought, “it’s meant to be read!” And I snagged that puppy up. Thank goodness I followed the signs, cause this book was amazing!

I don’t know how I never knew this author before. She is witty, hilarious and knows how to write revenge…or foreplay, however you want to see it. ;) She doesn’t pull any punches in her writing and I appreciated that. Like when describing things that were gross or disgusting, she didn’t sugarcoat it, it was straightforward and refreshing to read someone tell it like it is.

Helly is a a wonderful character. At first she came off a a bit masculine for my tastes but as i read on it made her more attractive honestly. She doesn’t pretend to know all woodsy things but the ones she does know, she knows a lot. I especially loved how she knew how to fish, gut and shoot like a sniper but couldn’t figure out why her car wouldn’t start. It wasn’t an all or nothing character if that makes sense. She had some vulnerability but for the most part she was a vicious defender of her space and no amount of wild animals or men were going to intimidate her or scare her into submission.

Gary is a mans man. He is broad, agile and knows how to use hand tools and guns. (A man after my own heart!) And he didn’t go easy on Helly just cause she was a girl. He treated her the same as the other men, well, except for the sexy times.

Where has this author been all my life? I receive multiple emails that alert me of books that are free and on sale, and this just happened to be one of them. I downloaded it on a whim and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it (because I loathe stories where the couple fights the majority of the novel.) I stayed up all night reading it. And when I was done? I bought the second and stayed up even longer reading that one.

I was not ready for this deliciously raunchy roller coaster. First, the characters = amazing. I loved every single one. I identified a lot with Helly and could easily place people I knew as the other characters. I made the mistake of starting this novel when I should have been going to bed. I literally laughed out loud the entire novel. It’s good thing my fiancé is a heavy sleeper.

Marlow writes an amazing story filled with hilarious and interesting characters, creative vengeance, and deliciously dirty scenes. Helly and Gary have such chemistry, I thought I was about to get burned. I also wasn’t expecting the twist at the end. I knew something was off but I wasn’t quite sure where it was heading.

Overall, Two Cabins One Lake is everything you didn’t know you were looking for. Lots of laughs and adventure (both in and out of the bedroom), and characters with more personality than I have read in long time.

Great story line. Great writing. Fantastic characters. It was fun and witty. Right up there with Janet Evanovich EXCEPT for all the erotic sex scenes and I just skipped the whole submission chapter. The minute detail of all that sex got boring and half way through the book I just skimmed over them. Some times it is better to say less and let the readers imagination have a chance to work. I would of given this book 5 plus stars in the sex would of been toned down.

Thank god for Kindle ads otherwise I would have never read this. I loved it so much and I laughed out loud SO MUCH!! It's an erotic romance (which I didn't know) but the sexual chemistry was sooooo good I didn't care it was more than 50% sex. Marlow does such a good job of having the hero and heroine HATE each other but still have a ridiculous amount of sexual chemistry. A++

THANK YOU for a laugh-out-loud, hot-enough-to-melt-your-kindle FUN READ, WHAT A GREAT ESCAPE FROM EVERY DAY.
EXCITING STORYLINE, THREE DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS, THE CRAZY FAMILY I WISH I BELONGED TO.
yep, all caps, I loved it that much.

The only complaint i have is that I read book two first. But now I'm at the perfect point to read book three!

I actually love this. It's sassy, it's incredibly hot, and very funny. I love the setting, the family, the guy, the girl, the scenario. My only gripe is the crude words used, but as it's in between steaming hot sex I can skip over them without cringing too much. Looking forward to read her other books :)

I needed some time to get used to the author's style and the wacky characters but after that I enjoyed this erotic romance with a good portion of humor and a little dash of mystery very much.
All the vital character are so over the top they are lovable again. The best thing I like was the fact that the plot lead to the grapic fantasies/erotic scenes and was not just an excuse/vehicle for them.

I'm already looking forward to the next books in series and hope they are as entertaining as this one. An additional bonus for me is the fact these books are part of KU and if I mange to read the next two book I already own next month I'll be able to read the last one during my trial KU membership and don't have to wait until I can afford it or it's on sale :-)

What a crack up this story was! I had such a good time with this book – reading about the heroine and all her crazy antics, and the things her new neighbour did back to her to get even – and it wasn’t quite what I was expecting... it was even better!

Thumbs UP

Helly was a heroine who lived up to her name – she was born to raise hell! I haven’t enjoyed a heroine as much as her in a while, and she will surely go down as one of my favourite troublemakers.

Gary was the perfect match for Helly, because he wasn’t afraid of her craziness, and he couldn’t resist her wildside. He had a kinky side I didn’t expect that gave me a lot of amusement and he was also pretty sexy.

Helly’s brothers – all three – were scene stealers! The smile could not be wiped off my face any time I read about their antics. If there were a book written about each of the brothers, I would gladly read it!

I’m a big fan of a show called ‘Buying Alaska’, and some of the places I've seen on that show came to mind as I read this book. The scenery sounded gorgeous, and it was nice to read a story placed in such a setting. I couldn’t imagine being a young woman living alone in isolation like Helly, but it actually all sounded quite fun.

I expected this book to be entertaining, because the synopsis was, but I didn’t expect it to be as steamy/smutty as it was – and that was an added bonus for me! Helly and Gary’s sexy times were hella hot.

Thumbs DOWN

I don’t have any major qualms with the story, only that perhaps Gary’s backstory was a little far-fetched and didn’t quite fit in with the feeling of this story. It did add some seriousness to the story which was good, but I didn’t think it was necessary.

Final Thoughts

I have a date with book two in this series, and it’s going to be happening very soon. I can’t wait to read more about the crazy brothers and the mischief they'll bring to Helly’s friend Suzy’s life, and I’m hoping poor Ed has recovered from Helly’s harsh rejection.

I loved this book and I’d recommend it to anyone after something fun, sexy, and set in the wild!

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. What may sound like an ordinary enemies-to-lovers story turned out to be so much more!

The characters are just absolutely amazing! Not at all one-dimensional but with so many cute, quirky, sometimes a little crazy layers.
Helly and her vengeful attacks at Gary were just absolutely hilarious! And her brothers! Don't get me started on how much fun they were! – But at times they were also a real pain in the ass and I'm glad that Helly had the guts to give them payback for everything they did.

Just a few pages into the book, I was completely hooked and couldn't put it down! It was not just the main characters that I came to love but also the hell-raising brothers, Helly's amazing best friend Suzy, and the whole setting especially. Although I didn't know a thing about the Alaskan bush, I'm sure the author portrayed it very authentic.
But besides the beautiful descriptions of Alaskan life and nature, and the veeeery hot and steamy love scenes, the book was also extremely hilarious! I had a few laugh-out-loud moments and most of the time I had a smile plastered to my face! And as if that weren't enough to make a good book, there's also the mysterious touch to it that makes you think and wonder alongside Helly and keeps the pace up at all times. There wasn't a single moment when I thought the book had become lengthy or where I found Helly's and Gary's banter/foreplay ;) was repetitive or boring.

The whole book was absolutely amazing and the only reason why I can't quite decide whether to rate it with 4 or 5 stars is that I loved the second one in the series even more! So let's call it 4.5 stars! :)
I can definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves funny, cute, hot romances with an amazing set of characters, an original, well-developed plot line, and a touch of mystery and suspense.
It was just Sweet ;)
