So how you do rate a book that made you wanna DNF every other minute - but at the same time you couldn't stop reading?

Confused photo: what13-goingon_zpsea85d1fa.gif

It's been long since I've been so frustrated, aggravated and pissed the fuck off all because of a book! I loved the prequel novella, First Verse, which ends on quite the cliffhanger. Quick sum up: Yeah, so you can imagine I was setting myself up for some epic grovel. I was expecting the H to do some serious chasing and apologising. He needed to redeem himself and I was expecting fantastic grovel somewhere on level with Ruthless and Paper Hearts.

What did I get? A weak ass heroine who lets the H scold her for the first part of the reunion , a babbling fool who forgets she has a spine when the H breathes around her, a doormat who apologises for not contacting the H sooner, and a dumbass who forgives the H way too easily.

Furious photo: Furious Panda enfado_zps6dc146bb.gif

Okay deep breaths....

The H was alright. Honestly, I think the h ruined most of the book for me. Emmett does apologise but it wasn't epic. It was one sentence and he was forgiven. Later he reiterates almost the same sentence with a bit more regret, but nothing special. I couldn't have been more underwhelmed.

Unimpressed photo: OFFICE.gif

On a positive note, I appreciated how there were no loose ends at the end of the book. With so much scheming and nasty secondary characters, I think the author tied everything up pretty well.

There was one thing I felt was ignored, which also really pissed me off.

At the end of the day, I feel extremely unfulfilled, underwhelmed and quite frankly, still a bit pissed. But I also have to admit that I devoured this book. I loved the angst and the storyline. I'm a sucker for second chances. I found myself hoping to get more info on the BFF, Lyra, and her Undecided ex, Ronan. I really hope she gets her own book.

So after reading my review, I've come to the conclusion that I will give it 2.5 stars, somewhere in the middle. I hated the h and the way things were resolved. But I loved the angst, the secondary characters, the ending and the fact that I couldn't stop reading, which must count as a pro... right?

First person POV. HEA. Epilogue one year in.

Hey guess what.. it's still not out! Supposedly she hit the submit button for Amazon on oct 31st and now she is having "problems" with Amazon releasing it.. but she refuses to release it on Nook or Smashwords... Hmmmm... It reminds me of that friend that say's "I'm on my way, I'm on the freeway" but they haven't even hit the shower yet. You know what Im talking about, we all have one.

I keep checking to see if it's released just to see how long it takes. It was supposed to be released in July, it's now the middle of Nov. I get that someone has problems, we all do, but we all manage to get by anyway and complete our work. In a way we are Ms. Snows clients, she produces something and we purchase it with our hard earned money. She provided a deadline and then failed to meet said deadline, repeatedly. Why is this different from the rest of us who work and have to meet deadlines. What happens in our regular 9-5'ers if we dont meet a deadline, we get into trouble. Yet this is not the first time Ms. Snow has done this with an anticipated book, yet us her paying clients have been let down.. again with very little information and after she had already missed the deadline 5x. If you know you have problems meeting deadlines dont give us one. I know a few authors that we know they are working on something but dont give us a hard deadline and then boom they tell us their newest book is up and its great! It's like surprise! Here's a present! Instead of disappointment.

Im sad to say, Ms. Snow has lost one more reader from this. Not because she's not talented because she is but because she doesn't respect her readers enough to truly be honest with us. Ilona Andrews went through something similar to this recently they had a much anticipated release "White Hot" but well before it was due to be out they told us it was delayed bc due to health, stress and family issues they couldnt meet the deadline. Throughout the process when they found something out they kept us informed exactly what was going on. Recently they posted a blog post that it was going to be delayed over a year. Bummer, right?! But the way they kept us informed and then explained why it was delayed so long was truly showing their respect for their fans. So they received overwhelming support on their blog post.

How does this have any ratings? The book hasn't been released, and there has been radio silence from the author since the date it was supposed to be released. I think I will cross this book off my to be read list - the author doesn't deserve my hard earned money.

Too many lies to even wrap my head around with this book. Or should I say, few chapters of a book, mixed with more lies. Multiple errors and weak story is the least of her worries right about now but whatever. I'm so fucking done with this author.

No doubt Emily Snow can write.

This book took so long in coming
out that all of the angst and all
of the tension of the first book
was forgotten.

When I started in on Second Verse
everything was so rushed. And
then, Kinsey. Kinsey who in
the first few chapters had built
a life away from Emmett, was
successful and happy, turned
into this needy, brainless, child/
woman immediately upon seeing
Emmett. Who by the way abandoned
her IN JAIL. SMH

We were told Emmetts and Kinsey's
feelings most of this book, and
so many things in the first book
were glossed over...like HIS
MARRIAGE!!! We are supposed to
believe that he pined over her
after he left her in jail, for 8 years.
Really? Maybe Kinsey is dumb
enough to fall for that, but this
reader is not.

I am done with all things Emily Snow.
I will not continue to wait on books,
that are promised to be out on a certain
date, just to have that author go into
hiding, and then the book comes
out and it has so many holes, so
many missed opportunities, that
I can hardly get through reading
it. Too many other books to read, so
little time!!!

After something like 23 different date changes, excuses and outright lies and 1 frankenbook, over 14 month late, Second Verse was finally released. I read it, really wish I hadn't bothered. There was no real growth in the characters and the entire story just felt forced and rushed. Along with putting out a poor excuse for a book, she has lost me as a reader by continually lying to her readers/fans and by failing to respond to, fix or refund anyone after (intentionally?) putting out her frankenbook. I will never again buy/read anything by Ms. Snow as I refuse to support authors who don't have even the most basic respect for their readers. She doesn't deserve anyone's money and if I had the option to leave less than one star for this review I would.

TL;DR? Just give Second Verse a hard pass, there are LOT of much much much better books to spend your time reading.

The first five chapters of this book are related to the story and it was good. The rest of the chapters are a completely different book. I have been waiting forever for this book to come out only to buy an incomplete book. I'm guessing that the rest of the book is her new one called Lust Thy Neighbor. It seems like it would be good book but I want a complete book

Given its long and torturous path to publication this book should have been excellent. After all Ms. Snow had more than 14 months and more then 3 dozen postponements since her initial release date to hone and perfect her manuscript. Instead the story was stilted, formulaic and riddled with editing errors. I have serious questions regarding how the author of Devoured and Tidal produced this work.

My advice? Skip Second Verse and assume First Verse ends as you envisioned it.

I've been waiting a long time for Second Verse! Emily Snow has always been one of my favorite authors. I want to start by saying that for me this book was better then Lucas and Sienna! I loved Emmett and Kinsey from the very beginning. If you haven't read the free novella that led up to this I encourage you so you know the back story, but it isn't 100% necessary you can dive into this one and get enough details retold from Kinsey to know exactly what's going on.

We start out 8 years after First Verse. Kinsey has really done well for herself and for her family. She's created a business, mended her relationship with her father, and though she's not a singer like she longed to be as a teenager, she's still successful. When we start Kinsey is actually singing, she's filling in for a friend who is ill, at a star studded wedding. The last thing that she thought was that she could run into a ghost from her past. But when she's faced with the one person that she never wanted to see again, everything in her turns to mush, as if it was just yesterday. But the hurt from the past can't be healed in one simple moment.

As their story progresses Emmett and Kinsey must work through all the problems of the past and handle the really tough questions, and come to understanding and find peace. This truly is one of the most beautiful second chance romance stories I have ever read. From beginning to end I was sucked into their epic love. Watching them transform from lonely and still heartbroken, to full of love and life.

You will fall in love with them and be sad for everything that they were forced to endure at the hands of greedy people, who sought to ruin their lives and keep secrets from them that would ultimately destroy family relationships. You will not want this to end! I'm sitting here days after reading the final chapter and wanting more and more of Kinsey and Emmett.... Their love is pure, beautiful and tragic, and Emily's writing doesn't cease to keep you captivated and furiously flipping the pages, as you devour this story.

Pick it up NOW! You won't regret it.

I expected so much more - sigh. It was weak, the characters that were so good in the first book all appear to have undergone a personality drain and where the hell is Kinsey's backbone? Seriously - the whole jail/necklace drama from the first book is not resolved and - you know what, I am going to stop now. I have put more thought into the above and more time into checking for this book for the past 15 months than has been given by the author. I refuse to waste one more minute of my life on Second Verse.

I absolutely love Emily Snow for putting First Verse into the front of the book. It's the perfect way for readers who didn't get pick it up when it first came out and helps them get the full effect of the book. That being said, Emmett and Kinsey set fire to the pages in First Verse and they continued to do so in Second Verse.

Kinsey is my hero. I know she's fictional, but I had the hardest time wrapping my head around the fact she wasn't bitter. I mean with everything she has ever been through, with her parents, Emmett, etc., she gave second, third, and even fourth chances. I would not have been able given them. She let those who did her wrong back into her life and she was able to forgive them, where I would not and have not been able to. She is one strong woman. It's not just that. It's how she loves and cares for those in her life. Her son, family, and friends. She's a giver.

I loved Emmett when I first met him, but he really had to redeem himself. The way he left things with Kinsey and everything that happened afterwards was rough. I mean the moment he figured out he'd made some huge mistakes he did the right thing, and supported Kinsey the way he should have from the very beginning, but it still felt like she forgave him way too quickly. I mean even his actions when he did Kinsey wrong felt off, especially since he'd been so honorable and even headed before.

Watching Kinsey and Emmett take on the past and new challenges that came their way was exhilarating. It was wonderful seeing them try to work their way back to what they had before it was tainted by others.

And I have to mention Matt because he's adorable and the reason why Kinsey and Emmett were able to come back together a second time. Even if Emmett was a terrible boyfriend, you can't say he wasn't a fantastic father.

I would've loved to see the wrongs done to Kinsey stricken from the record, but I also would love to read about Kinsey's best friend and Matt's godmother, Lyra Amador. I loved the way Lyra supported Kinsey through everything. I also loved her irreverence and ability to call Kinsey on things as well as egg her on. I'd love to see her unsettled love life settled.

I love Emily Snow's books. No one writes second chance romances like she does. They're not just passionate and angsty, but real and captivating. I absolutely can't wait to read what she writes next!

8 years later and Kinsey has got her life on track. She has her own renovating company where she flips houses and she has a very special little man in her life. She has also mended the bridge with her father. Life seems to be looking up. She has had a few disastrous relationships but there will only ever be one man that holds her heart and he will never be. Emmet has become the famous country singer. With award winning songs and a bank account to go with it. He still has never got over the girl that stole his heart. When he is invited to a wedding, the last person he expected to see singing was Kinsey. One thing for sure, he knows, he is not going to make the same mistake twice, and he is not walking away. When he arrives at her place of work to pursue her, he is totally floored by his miniature clone. While he is upset with Kinsey for not telling him he does forgive her. She is still trying to protect her heart but as time goes on, Emmet starts to chip away and make the promises he should have made 8 years ago. While I really enjoyed this story, I did have a few irks. For one Emmet was upset with her for not telling him about his son. Yet she did, she wrote letters, she tried phoning, she even went as far as going to his concert. What irked me more was that he wrote love songs about her, but never bothered to find out what happened to her after she went to jail. He never even went to visit her in jail to discuss this with her. His own Grandmother told him that she did not believe that Kinsey was a thief. So for me, that was a bit difficult, as if you really loved someone, I think you might have had a bit more faith in them. As for Hazel, she got away with so much and although she tries to redeem herself in the end, I was not buying it. The magnetic pull between Emmett and Kinsey was equally as strong as it was in the first book. The love was there and the same people were still trying to tear them apart, with an added extra villain on Kinsey side. Overall all, the book was good, the chemistry sizzled and the secondary characters left you wanting to find out more of their stories.

I loved this book. It gave me the feels without being overly consuming.
Emmett and Kinsey had such great chemistry. And of course Emmett is crazy sexy. I felt like I could hear his deep drawl as he spoke all his alpha male talk and see his perfect butt in perfect fitting jeans with all his country sexy swagger.
I also enjoyed how both Kinsey and Emmett weren't petty and took family seriously. Neither of them were whiny or indecisive so that the story wasn't a fight to get to the end rather a building up to the end with some hiccups along the way.
Second Verse was a great summer read that was swoon worthy goodness.

2nd installment, and Kinsey is left with an albatross around her neck as a reminder of her whirlwind, yet tragic romance that almost was with rising country star Emmett Hudson.

This is where this story started to go downhill for me. I apologize for some of the spoilers, but I can’t get around it, since its integral to the story.

Though she’s now 26, and mother to a seven-year-old son, she still acts like an eighteen year old. I think that’s what bugged me the most about books 2 and 3.

Emmett Hudson is lovely, although I could definitely have done with much less smirking and ‘oh god, he’s so sexy, I am enflamed!’ Yeah, he’s sexy, we get it. See that horse over there? It’s been dead for three months, beating it now is useless!

Honestly, I can’t remember where this one ended up, because I was starting to get ragey with the story.

THIRD VERSE review, since I can’t seem to find it on GR - whatever, I’m so annoyed right now.

With the 3rd installment, my rating and opinion of this story continued to plummet.

Again, Emmett was lovely, sweet and devoted, and for some reason, Kinsey was just annoying.

Strike that, lots of reasons.

First, she was still acting like an eighteen year old. How does a 26 year old mother still have so many unfounded fears? Practically anytime anyone said anything, she was reaching for that damn key, terrified.

Second, anytime Emmett got near her, or even looked at her, her skin scorched off. Hmm, ok I’m exaggerating, but not entirely. Seemed like every other sentence involved heat and burning and scorching. It was too much.

Third, why in the world was she dragging her heels with Emmett? Their connection was undeniable. His claim of their son, and of her was irrefutable. Everything he did after he came to terms with having a child, and discovering the collusion of his sister and his dad, was straight up DEVOTED. There was absolutely nothing he did to make her doubt his sincerity or his commitment.

And yet, almost at the end, Kinsey was still trying to push him off, and voice her stupid fears. Why? I don’t understand. This is the love of your life, woman, and you’ve got a very real, very true second chance at a happy life. Don’t question it, don’t deny it, don’t dig in your heels. JUST SAY YES AND GO WITH IT!

Finally, the thing with Dylan at the end was predictable and OTT, and just plain stupid. I call bullshit - she had plenty of opportunities and time to renew the restraining order. Something THAT important, the safety of yourself and your CHILD, takes precedence over everything, and there’s not a person on this planet that would prevent you from making that renewal. Furthermore, the people in her life should have been bending over backwards to not only encourage her to do it, but also rearranging their entire lives to make it easy for her to do so. Like if I was her dad, I’d be driving her to the police station myself the second it expired.

I also call bullshit on her getting detained and locked up after DEFENDING herself. That part of the story made absolutely no sense. I mean, is there really a back-assward police station in this country somewhere that would lock a woman up for defending herself against an attacker who, she not only had a restraining order against, expired or not, but who also hit her? BULLSHIT!

Grrr. So annoyed right now, I can’t even sum up this review properly.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I was so excited to read the rest of Emmett and Kinsey's story after the way it ended in First Verse. Now, 8 years later, they are face to face again with so much unresolved and unsaid between each other. I completely vouched for Kinsey, knowing how abandoned she felt and expecting Emmett to come with apologies...except he didn't. Yet, I loved Emmett as much as Kinsey so I kept reading to see how it would all pan out because surely, they could find their way back to each other, regardless of the complications between them. What becomes clear very quickly is that despite all the terrible things that went down between them, regardless of what they believed about the other, the attraction and chemistry was still as strong as ever.

I was glued to every page of this story because I could understand every single one of Kinsey's emotions and I could also see Emmett's side, too, where the past was filled with heartbreak and that the present might hold a lot of promise. There were times where my chest felt hollow or a pang shot through it, balanced with the moments where my heart squeezed. And while I always love a cocky jerk of a hero, Emmett wasn't like that and I loved him even more for it because he had no problems calling Kinsey out on everything she wanted to avoid and forcing her to face the truth, whether she was ready for it or not because he could read her like a book. Emmett's determination was just as fierce as Kinsey's stubbornness and I devoured every scene between the two of them. I also had to see what would happen with Hazel, and Kinsey is quite the spitfire when she has to stand up for herself. This is my newest favorite second chance romance, one of those that I can re-read multiple times.

While I liked and enjoyed this story, I can't help to think it could have been "more".

First Verse, the prequel novella (which is also included in this book), was sooooo good! And after a LONG time waiting for Second Verse, I expected more angst in it.

It's still a good story, with a good conflict, but it could have had more angst, specially after how things happened and ended in First Verse.

I have been patiently waiting for this book to be released.

I loved the plot and the characters. I loved the chemistry between Emmett and Kinsey. I thought it was a beautifully written story. At first I though Kinsey was to forgiving but once everything unfolded I understood why.

This was a great 2nd chance romance and the First Verse is at the beginning so you won't miss a thing.

The full story of Kinsey and Emmett's relationship. Although it was a great romance, until it wasn't, there just seemed to be a lot of unresolved issues. How on earth did Hazel get away with all of the low down dirty things she did to Kinsey? And Kinsey's stalker should be under the jail, not walking around free!

I don't want to give anything away, but in this book Emmet and McKinsey run into each other after eight years which is where the story begins. In book one Emmet but now he finds out about it and he is determined to make up for lost time.

I think this story is a really good one for when and if love should be given a second chance. Too many times women in particular go back over and over again when it's a dysfunctional relationship they are in; however, there are those times that there was really just a miscommunication or someone made an honest mistake. The big mistake that book 1 left us with left me really upset with Emmet. He wasn't there for McKinsey when she needed him most and he didn't stand up for her when she was falsely accused and consequently put in jail. He never gave her a chance to explain what happened. His sister who was worried that McKinsey would take his focus off his career falsely accused her of stealing a necklace and he believed his sister.

Recommendation: I have never read this author until this series and I'm so glad I did. I'll be reading more and hope you'll give her a try if you haven't already.

Emmett was a disgusting a$$hole

Believing that Kinsey had stolen his sister’s necklace was bad enough but allowing her to go to jail and making no attempt to see her or contact her was unforgivable. And then, when he showed up 8 years later, he made no reference to what had happened and thought that she would be happy to jump back into bed with him?

After Kinsey tried numerous times to talk to him about the baby, he made it clear that he wasn’t interested. She had someone give him a message and she clearly heard him say, “I just can’t”. After that, her calls and letters were unanswered, and she was turned away when she went to see him personally. When he was furious with her because she hadn’t told him about the baby, she started scrambling to explain and apologize? F*ck that and the horse it rode in on.

The final straw was when he threatened that if she didn’t do what he wanted, he would take her to court and get custody of their son.

I simply adored Emmett and Kinsey!! From the first time I read the prequel, First Verse to the end of the epilogue they had me rooting for their second chance! I love getting sucked into a story, and Emily Snow does that so well creating beautiful characters with heart and feeling. Emmett was tenacious and sweet and sexy and I loved his dirty mouth. Kinsey was fierce and loyal and independent and stubborn. So together there were absolutely gonna have to be fireworks!

Second chance romances are some of my absolute favorites, and Second Verse made me so happy. You had secrets, conflict, meddling family and lots of undeniable passion present. Plus one sexy man and one adorable kid. All I needed to make me fall totally in love with this story!!

OK, after reading #1 and tears flowing down my face #2 gets a throat punch for how Emment reunites at wedding reception. He's skeazy and hitting on Kinsey despite leaving her in jail the last time he knew....eight years ago. Ick.

So big fat one star off for him being mean and mad at Kinsey for not letting him know he fathered a son with her. I almost took another star off because she pretty much took his shit and was decent with him. He pretty much started hitting on her again within days and he saved the extra star off by being decent himself.

There are secondary characters who were interesting and a bad guy that Kinsey kept having trouble with.

The music industry is really not a real feature here. It's more of Kinsey's life in small town Georgia.

All in all, a good story!!
