Perfectly Imperfect: How to Be Imperfect and Remain Lovable

Rate this book
For a variety of reasons, many of us fall victim to perfectionism. A perfectionist doesn't forgive his or her own mistakes. If you are a perfectionist, you can't look away from your perceived flaws. In "Perfectly Imperfect," author Connie Howell offers suggestions on how to overcome the need to be perfect and how to accept yourself as being worthy of love just as you are.

Based on her personal experiences, Howell shows that by connecting with your inner guidance and universal love, you can become more peaceful, loving, and on track to fulfill your purpose in life. "Perfectly Imperfect" teaches the lessons: ? Life is like reading a book; you never know what to expect until you turn the page ? You already know everything you need to know, you just don't know you know ? Worrying about making the wrong decision is a powerful incentive to stay put and do nothing ? There comes a time in life when you have to be the creator rather than a spectator ? Show up for life, and it will surprise and delight you

Howell communicates that lasting perfection doesn't exist. But, she believes in excellence and doing the best you can with the knowledge that you are already good enough?be happy to be perfectly imperfect.

Always good to learn new things. Connie's philosophy is so calming and visionary, that having met her I can see she had worked hard at gaining her state of perfect imperfectness! (If I can even use that word?!). I like her positivity and calming aura. This short memoir style/self help book is an honest account of a life full of highs and lows; and how one can reach their happy medium. I think it takes strength of character and a caring nature to share a story of one's life, that would be hard to revisit; in hope of helping others. With thanks to the author for my personalised signed copy.

It’s hard to read a book and know the hardship a person suffered is real, because it’s non-fiction. Aussie author Connie Howell’s courage and bravery in imparting at least part of her earlier years in her quest to show us her survival, and how she survived shows a strength and resilience not a lot of people can find.

Connie shows us that it’s futile to strive for perfection – all of us probably know someone who is a perfectionist. We (especially women) are continually self-critical and beat ourselves up on a daily basis. And she shows us it is fine to be Perfectly Imperfect.

"Life is like reading a book; you never know what to expect until you turn the page."

I've never felt any need for "finding myself" but I can see how Connie Howell's book would be helpful for many that are having trouble overcoming obstacles in their lives.

Chapters on forgiveness and gratitude held great interest and it was beneficial to know Connie has used these tactics to move forward in her own life.

" Energy follows thought; like attracts like. Think more loving and optimistic thoughts to draw more loving and optimistic things to you."

I think everyone regardless of their thoughts on spirituality will find something of benefit in this book. However, as a realist, there were some ideas in the book I really couldn't agree with.

Perfectly Imperfect: How to be Imperfect and Remain Lovable is a book by Australian poet, mentor and author, Connie Howell. Ten short chapters that each conclude with Questions for Reflection address topics relevant to everyday life, including choice, healing, forgiveness, decisions, gratitude and change. Howell generously backs up her ideas and advice with examples of challenges she has had to face in her own life.

Readers who are struggling with their own perfectionist tendencies, or who are close to someone who has them will find this book relevant and helpful. For those who have overcome this, it will certainly strike a chord. Howell offers words of wisdom and techniques that will help readers of all ages.

Reading this book felt like having a conversation with a long lost friend. The type of conversation that is in parts difficult, in part emotional but in the end you are left with a feeling of having gained something tangible.

This is not the sort of book, I would normally read, however, I am glad I branched out and delved into this little slice of life.

I received a copy of this book free from the good-reads first-reads program. I found this book to be very helpful and useful especially at this point in my life. We all make decisions that we sometimes regret and later on down the road. Connie lets us know by writing this book that there is no such thing as "perfect." We all have a different story and Connie is gracious enough to share some of hers. Everyone including me can learn a few things from reading this tiny book, a about a big issue. A little bit of advice and info from the book that I took to heart we can be imperfect and that's okay. I found the book to be a joyous read and would recommend it to everyone. "Life is like reading a book; you never know what to expect until you turn the page."

I enjoyed reading this book and I loved Connie's courageous honesty about the events and challenges that shaped her life from a very young age. Cleverly woven throughout Connie's story are profound insights, many of which touched a chord within me. Connie delivers a strong message about the futility of striving for perfection and demonstrates that through power of choice we can overcome life's challenges by dismantling the victim mentality, shifting our thought processes and trusting that each event is designed to lead us to higher consciousness.

I was a winner in the goodreads giveaway and just loved this little book!! My postal carrier delivered the book originally to my neighbors house, so very glad when they got back from vacation they gave me my book! This book, is so important because at times we all are so very self-critical. It's bad enough that the world and many of the people in it are so critical about everything, but really for us to beat ourselves up over situations in our lives too?!? Not a good idea. Connie shows us by her experience that we can allow ourselves to be imperfect and lovable at the same time. Great content for me right now! Thanks for an awesome book!!

Loved the simplicity and directness of the writing. There is a message that everyone will be able to relate to in this book. It has made a huge difference to how i think about my own life and enabled me to let go of that tiresome self criticism we all seem to carry. Thanks Connie, you've helped me lift a weight that has been holding me down for years.
