The last thing Isabelle Daniels expects to find in her living room is a pirate from the Eighteenth Century. Her intention was to surprise her boyfriend of 3 years by arriving home early after a week of visiting family, and seducing him for a night of intimate reacquaintance. Unfortunately for her, she is the one surprised; not only is there a handsome pirate in her living room, her boyfriend arrives at their apartment with a female guest from the more-than-a-little-friendly persuasion. To top it all off, throughout the exchange, Izzy is in nothing but pink underwear.
Now, Izzy has to figure out not only why the pirate was sent to her specifically (and why he won't seem to leave her alone), but what direction to take her life after her college graduation as a single, young adult with the world at her feet. Everything happens for a reason, and Izzy will learn that sometimes, moving forward with her life may require a trip to the past, and even disasters can be beautiful.
Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.
Isabelle (Izzy) is planning a surprise for her boyfriend, and she ends up with two surprises herself. Someone claiming to be an 18th-century pirate shows up at her door, soon followed by her boyfriend and a young woman he is clearly more than friends with. She breaks it off with the boyfriend but can't seem to get rid of the pirate. Until graduation, she helps Johnny, the pirate, learn about life in modern times.
Is Johnny truly a pirate from the past? If so, how did he turn up in modern times? Why did he and Izzy cross paths? At some point, will they be going back to the past together, or will he just go back alone?
After having read the first book of the series, I was surprised when this book I started off in the present. The cover, too, had me thinking that we would be back in the pirate past right from the get-go. but it certainly works in this context to have a contemporary section. This book had a surprising amount of humor, and it kept me turning pages just to see what silly thing would be said or done next. Johnny is definitely a pirate along the lines of Captain Jack Sparrow, though he sounds to be a little bit more attractive. This book does have violence and steamy intimate moments.
If you enjoy pirate romance, time travel romance, or romance with humor, you might enjoy this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but this did not affect my review.
This is an intriguing and entertaining story, but there's not much romance to it. Johnny, a pirate who appeared from the 18th century, is just like Capt. Jack Sparrow, charming, amusing, bold, but when he meets Izzy, he also becomes caring and protective. Izzy is vulnerable, insecure and stubborn. Johnny pops into her life while she's waiting at home to surprise her boyfriend. Unfortunately the surprise is on her when he shows up with another woman. She throws him out and spends the next 2 months teaching Johnny about the 21st century. The night of her graduation they find themselves back in his time, because he needs to lead his fellow pirates in the war against the British Navy, but first he had to learn to not be selfish. It's a very entertaining story.
Having read parts of this series all out of order, this book seems to be key to my understanding of how the later books fit together in the series. I enjoyed watching the dynamic between Johnny and Izzy so much. Neither one of them was prepared for what they got with one another. I loved how her faith was enough to inspire Johnny to believe in himself and how Izzy was strong enough to take the first steps he was too afraid to walk. I will definitely be finishing reading the rest of the books in the series.
This is the second book in the series . I have not read the stories in order . In present times Isabelle Daniels comes home early and walks in on her boyfriend Zack with another woman . To make things worse Johnny Clover a Pirate from the past is also there . This book will take you place in the present and past times you can't imagine . It was a excellent adventure and one I recommend you take for yourself . Love this series.
Amazingly entertaining! The mistake I made was to read Book 6 of The Swashbuckling Romance Series befoe I'd read all the earlier books, now I've read spoilers, but that's OK. Now I've gone out & read Beauties & Buccaneers: Book 2 of The Swashbuckling Romance Series and gotten Corsets & Crossbones: Book 3 of The Swashbuckling Romance Series and still have to get the rest of the series. Yes, it's that good!
I love time traveling books and this was no exception. I love how the book was split so they spent half in one century and half in another. Also, who doesn't love pirates?!! I didn't read book one but I have every intention of reading it in the future.
This is book two in The Scandalous Adventures at Sea Series a well written story that had me smiling in some places.A time travel story that goes both ways Johnny comes to Isabelle/Izzy's time and she goes to his. I will be looking to see if there is a book following this one.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I chose to read and review this book. it is well written and filled with laughter suspense mystery and much more to keep one captivated and reading till the end it has some nice elements such as pirates time travel who can resist that sexiness I recommend it very engaging one.
Great read. Some spelling and grammatical errors but kept me interested all the way through. Now on to the third ebook in this series. Keep up the great work!
This is a really good story. The characters and plot kept my interest, the story would not allow me to put it down. There was action, sword fights, balls and a pirate who belonged in the 18th century turn up in the 21st century. There are no racy scenes but the author kept it interesting, none the less. There were a few places where it could have been edited better but did not detract from the overall book. I was given this book free for an honest review.
Isabelle Daniels arrived home early from a week visiting her parents for Spring Break with the intention of having a night of passion with her boyfriend of three years. Instead she finds a man called Johnny Clover who claims to be a pirate from the 18th Century in her living room. As she is trying to get rid of him her boyfriend arrives home with another woman. Izzy tells him they are though but doesn't seem to be able to get rid of the pirate.
This is a lovely romance where both Izzy and Johnny are doing their best to not fall in love - Johnny because he doesn't believe in it and Izzy because she is a romantic who can't countenance anything without love. Add into that mix pirates and a bit of time travel and you get all the scenarios for this to be a lovely tale where love is unavoidable and unavoidable. Well written and good descriptions used throughout.
3.5 stars. This is the second book in the Swashbuckling Romance series. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. There isn't a traditional cliffhanger but the storyline is open-ended for the next book in the series. There is violence and the sex is hot and steamy so 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author managed to describe the main characters Isabelle (Izzy) and Johnny and the settings well. The storyline is average, though it did involve time travel which was a plus for me. Overall it still was a good read.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author including more in this series.
I rarely give reviews and don't remember ever giving 5 Stars. However, when it comes to Ms. Meyers, she has yet to disappoint me. I have several more of her books just waiting their turn. The only downside is which one will be next.
