When Gemma Fellings looses her job she decides to move and start over. She quickly befriends a woman who disappears and runs into her brother Carson Sanchez. Something strange is going on in town though and as Carson and Gemma work together to figure it out with his friends, secrets are unveiled that put everyone in danger.

Overall I liked this but there was a lot in the story that I wasn't sure was needed. Carson and Gemma are an intriguing couple and I enjoyed seeing how everything unfolded.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Awakened ( soul shifters#1) By Sennah Tate I found this a great exciting read... There is plenty of action and a nice touch of romance.

Gemma is your ordinary everyday person her life has involved around her teaching career and making ends meet.

But when she losses her teaching job she decides to take the plunge and change her life, and boy her life will never be the same again. it's during her move when she finds herself stranded at the side of the road after having a puncture, that the man who changes everything for her appears, Carson he is a sexy bad boy who has turned his life around, i loved the moment his eyes first found Gemma while she was searching for her phone charger in the footwell of her car, he had an eyeful of her curvy sexy ass.....

I found the story a little slow a lough i did enjoy it immensely, i would like to have heard more about Carson's background, what actually happened, and i also feel that there was no point in the book where Gemma & Carson actually got to really know each other she also never questioned his past, and he never shared any details. i think i would have liked a little more courting and maybe some sexual tension between them. it was kinda lets find Izzy we're thrown together, and suddenly we are together.

I also have got to the end of book 1 and i am still non the wiser as to what exactly is going on, i'm aware that people are in a frenzy, there are shadows attached to certain people and there are souls shifters, as we found out at the end of the book, but i actually have no idea what is going on so far and why, but maybe all will be reviled in book 2.

Non the less it's a great story line and i'm flying straight onto book #2 as I cant wait to see what goes on especially finding out how Aaron is involved... would love for the romance level between Carson and Gemma to grow.
All in all this is definitely worth 4 stars...!
A must to add to you're reading list.

I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The book had a really good premise and started off really good but the main characters didn't connect as well as I would have hoped for them to be sharing souls. The main characters seemed to different. Gemma had a very straight laced polite character. I didn't see her being put with a criminal that everyone seemed to hate. There didn't seem to be any trust between the characters and the sex seemed strange and more of a device plot than a melding of souls. There were to many characters in the story that didn't add anything to the story. It also ended on a cliff hanger in a place in the story that wouldn't induce you to read the next book. It wasn't a bad story it just wasn't intense or something that you would read again.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from LoP.

I really enjoyed this book! The author told a different tale with a new spin on shifters. I thought Awakened was incredibly bold and absolutely wonderful! I loved Gemma and Carson, and I thought their backgrounds were very interesting. Together as a couple I thought maybe they pull heat it up a little more, but over all I found the story exciting and I will be buying book two!

So this story started out pretty good. The world building was on point, character descriptions were excellent… everything was set for a great read. But then it just fell off. The plot itself is solid, but the flow became so choppy. It jumped around so much I got virtual whiplash. It’s like the story was running too long so they needed to rush it to get to the conclusion in a certain number of pages, or to meet a deadline. I’d have happily read more pages if it meant getting a better flowing story. I’m intrigued by the plot though so that’s the only thing that’s keeping me going with the remainder of this series. Here’s hoping the rest of there books don’t have more of that otherwise I may have to stop at book 2. 🤞🏾

I was given this book by Lovers of Paranormal group for an honest review.

The story starts out slowly and quickly became confusing. Or maybe I got confused because the author's execution of her admittedly intriguing plot failed to keep my interest. As I read I found external things distracting me and this is not the norm. Believe me - if I'm hooked on a story I could read outside during a category 5 gale force wind.

Here's what I got. Gemma loses her teaching job and relocates to a small town. Somehow she is able to move and rent a house without any income or job prospects. She meets Izzy and they become friends by being age-phobic and rudely dismissive of their elderly neighbors.
The story picks up a bit when the paranormal element is brought into play and this is where I wish the author had started her book.

Izzy, who I found very hard to like, goes missing. Gemma meets Carson, Izzy's estranged brother, and they search for her. Throughout the story the author stresses Carson's criminal past and that he's an ex convict. However, the reader never learns exactly why he was incarcerated or why (if he was rehabilitated) he's still estranged from his sister.

Another Reviewer - KLV beautifully expresses my complaint. She writes in her review, "The descriptions of the dream wolf and the sequence of events leading up to creating the dream wolf were incomplete and hard to follow. The disturbance at the police station was hard to understand. The action was hard to follow based on the descriptions. There is a scene where the wolf is going to be attacked by a shadow. Hints are given that this shadow is larger and stronger than the wolf. Then time passes and the wolf show up with the prisoner they were looking for. What happened in the fight? It was just glossed over. Also Carson had friends that didn't support his criminal past. The guys seem like secret FBI nerds."

I agree with every word of KLV's summation though I think Carson's friends sound more like ex-military with only one nerd. Carson was the ex con but these - tougher sounding - guys seemed willing to lay their lives on the line for him. Why?

The bones of a good story are here. It just wasn't fleshed out enough.

Gemma Fellings came to a small town Hannaford Glen because she lost her teaching job in Tampa bay and she wanted to find some place that was not so humid so she struck out not even knowing if she would get a new job but she had enough savings for a couple months when she was almost in town she had a flat tire and a very handsome and sexy man stopped to help her she was frightened but he seemed to touch something within her she was in such a hurry to get to the new place that she forgot to get his name when she arrived everyone was so friendly and she realized that it was a neighborhood of mostly senior citizens she even met a young woman named Izzy who happened to be very nice and worked at the bar not far from Gemma's house they became fast friends until one day when they were sitting around having a drink at Gemma's that Izzy received a text and she was acting strange and left and there after continued to act strange she didn't call any more nor did she stop by and when Gemma called or text her she wouldn't answer so she went to the bar one night and she was talking to Izzy but some Guy caught Izzy's attention at the other end of the bar Gemma couldn't tell who it was or if she even had seen him before but Izzy was very upset and was screaming at him and told him to leave after that Gemma went home and never saw Izzy again then one night she went to Izzy's house to see what was happening with her but the light's were out and she saw someone around the house trying to get in when he entered the house Gemma went in right behind him she was hiding in the pantry when she the door was pulled open and she came face to face with Carson Sanchez as she was beating him back with a broom because she didn't know who he was and if he wanted to hurt until she saw his face and he took the broom from her it was the guy who changed her tire she wanted to know why he was in her friends house she was shocked to find out who he was as was he to find out that she knew who Izzy. A very interesting and unusual romantic suspense. I received a copy, I am providing an honest review on this book.

Gemma is fired from her teaching job due to budget cuts. She decides this would be a good time to make some changes in her life. She no longer wants to live in Tampa. Gemma decides to find a new place to rent in a new town and find a new job. She finds a new home to rent in Hannaford Glen. On her drive to her new home she gets a flat tire in a rain storm. A stranger is kind enough to stop and help her. She never got to find out the attractive strangers name. Her neighbors are too friendly and pushy. Isabel saves her from talking to one of the pushy neighbors. Gemma and Isabel become fast friends and se each other a lot. Then Gemma can't get ahold of Isabel. She finds her at work but Isabel is acting real weird and making lame excuses about losing her phone. After another week passes with no word from Isabel Gemma decides to go to her house. While Gemma is there she ends up finding the stranger that changed her tire. His name is Carson and he is Isabel's brother. Carson is also worried about Isabel because he was told she has disappeared. Gemma and Carson team up to find Isabel. They both agree some weird things are going on in the small town. They also find out some weird things are going on between them.

This book started off really good. Then in the middle I wasn't to sure what was going to happen with the characters and their new abilities. There was no real explanation so it was losing me. Then towards the end I couldn't put the book down. Now I can't wait for the next one to come out. Towards the end of the book is when things start to get explained on what is going on. I liked the characters and the writing is good. I was just getting lost on the shadowy shapes and why Gemma and Carson could do what they did. The book really pulled everything together by the end though.

I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys paranormal romance.

I received a free digital copy of this book via Romance ARCade, for the purposes of providing a review.

I first read the short prequel Unraveled, which I also received through RA.

The premise here is interesting, and I liked both the heroine and hero. Gemma is a laid-off schoolteacher who decides on a whim to move to a new community and try to start over. Carson is a guy trying to escape from his family's reputation for criminal activity. Both are smart and I like the chemistry between them. I like the group of friends Carson has gathered around him. They're a good bunch of guys.

The beginning was a little confusing, with bits and pieces of story laid out, then backtracking to "real time" with our main characters. I was even more confused when one of the characters introduced in "real time" was someone whose fate I already know, thanks to the bits and pieces. I didn't much like being spoiled for her future before I even met her.

Finally, this book could have used a serious edit. Misused words, run-on sentences, underused commas, and overused semi-colons abounded, along with context errors (like military people using 12-hour time. Um, no.). The most egregious error was one of the characters stating most people are vaccinated for rabies these days. There is a treatment for rabies in case a person is bitten, but there is no preventive vaccine of which I am aware. I could suspend my disbelief for other parts of it, because it's clearly a story set in a paranormal version of our world, but the rabies vaccination pulled me out of the story pretty hard. There was also a wee bit of headhopping, but unfortunately, I've gotten so used to that in indie books, I only noticed it once or twice.

Still, Tate offers a new twist on the fated mates trope, and I'd like to read more. I can't quite give it four stars. 3.5.

>Book Review – Awakened –

> This is the first book in the Soul Shifter series and ends in with a cliffhanger.

>Gemma moves to a small town after losing her job. She decides to start over. She moves, but never applies for any jobs, which I found odd. Gemma makes friends with Izzy and then Izzy disappears. Izzy's brother, Carson and Gemma band together to find Izzy.

>the first half of the book is intriguing and really gets the reader interested in the story. Carson is a former bad boy, now misunderstood and unjustifiably wronged by everyone. I could feel Gemma's devastation at losing her job. I loved the quaint small town she moved to. Izzy seemed like a highly energetic, fun loving character. Carson was bad boy hot.

>The second half of the book was hard to follow. The descriptions of the dream wolf and the sequence of events leading up to creating the dream wolf were incomplete and hard to follow. The disturbance at the police station was hard to understand. The action was hard to follow based on the descriptions. There is a scene where the wolf is going to be attacked by a shadow. Hints are given that this shadow is larger and stronger than the wolf. Then time passes and the wolf show up with the prisoner her was looking for. What happened in the fight? It was just glossed over.

>Carson had friends that didn't support his criminal past. The guys seem like secret FBI nerds. How in the world did Carson go to jail with those guys as his friends? There is a lot of mention of Carson's criminal dad also, but nothing specific is ever explained.

>I am a reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This book has an interesting premise, but the execution is wanting.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience.

This story started a little slow for me, but it gave me a nice back story which helped me connect with the characters. I loved gemma's heart felt love for teaching and her care for kids. I loved that Carson had a bad past but really wanted to be better. I will say that this one took a bit of time to establish the paranormal part but I loved Gemma's quirky new neighbors and hilarious best friend. And the suspense built while Carson and Gemma try to find izzy and what happened and what's going on in town. While they learn about each other.

I liked Gemma, I really liked Izzy, and I loved Carson! You found out through accident that Carson and izzy are brother and sister and are estranged. Living in a small town is sometimes hard and comes with a lot of baggage and old rivalries. And while I liked the building of these relationships you never really understand Carson's full criminal activity or what really made Izzy stop talking to him. I needed a little more info here. I kept thinking the suspense added to the story but didn't answer the questions I had. And Carson had friends from his past but I didn't really understand how they were friends or who they really were.

Even though there were some holes I needed filled, I still like the premise of the story. I'm not too sure on the shadow part and dream wolf either. So with that, I really would like to see if book two will cover what book one didn't. I know we readers get picky and I liked the over all book so that shouldn't reflect negatively on the author who worked hard to built this book. So with that said, I will be picking up book two. I think there's some great ground work laid down and we just have to make that foundation a little more sturdy to build upward so, 4 PAWS!!

SOUL SHIFTER ROMANCE!!

Awakened-Book 1- Soul Shifters- This unique intriguing series is steamy and action packed. Series are fantastic because you get acquainted with and adore all the awe-inspiring characters; and the characters in this series are potent, sultry, exhilarating and full of surprises..

This story features Gemma, a sexy, audacious, beautiful teacher; Carson a strapping, hot, charming, dominant male with a haunting past; Izzy, a spirited beautiful bartender and Carson's sister who has gone missing.

WHILE SEARCHING FOR HIS SISTER CARSON STUMBLES UPON THE EVIL THAT LURKS IN HANNAFORD GLEN!!!

The cast of characters are convincing, impressive and engaging, the banter superb, scene descriptions are hair-raising and vivid, magic, story-line spectacular, pent-up rage escalates, emotions spiral, life threatening incidents, camaraderie, heart-wrenching moments, riveting suspense, surprises, jaw-dropping pulsating romance, and a conclusion that leaves you yearning for the answers you desire.

INCREDIBLE exhilarating well written read by a gifted author. All the characters are absolutely phenomenal. A most satisfying read and I loved it from start to finish. If you relish paranormal stories with a unique shifter twist, spine-tingling suspense and steamy romance; this is definitely a terrific book and series for your library. In the world of paranormal the possibilities are illimitable but always fascinating. {I received an arc for a thoroughly truthful review}. Without reservations I highly recommend this book and the series...

Received a copy in exchange for an honest review from LoP

Ok so honestly this book had me slightly confused. So iunderstood the bit about soul shifting right but then near the end other people could see him but it had only been a few days or weeks, he didn't even practice his powers that much.

I love that there was low angst, no back and forth bliss but come on, that was quick. One minute shes accusing him of being a stalker and then a couple days later they're boinking (lol i just wanted to use that word)
Don't get me wrong this book has it's perks, it was definitely different from the norm which is amazing, and the concept was good but i think if it wasn't soo short i would've got more from it. I didnt connect with the characters because to me it was mostly like, "hi here they are, they're on a mission together and they get together, they solve the puzzle and shazam it's over" i usually hate story building but with this i wish there was more. But maybe if i continue i'll get more and fall in love with the series. Honestly it was 50/50 for me, i don't hate it but i didn't fall head over heels in love with it either

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via Lovers of Paranormal.

I'm always happy when I thoroughly enjoy reading a book that I have agreed to review - it makes things so much nicer.

I really enjoyed this book. This was a whole, unexpected, slant on 'shifters'. Carson and Gemma are Soul Shifters and only come into their powers when they meet their soul mate.

The characters are likable and believable and their interactions work well.

The book would have been even better if lengthened and a few more details added and clarified. I also don't like cliffhangers. I prefer to read series of books where each book is a stand alone but the same characters pop up throughout the series. Having said that, I can't wait to read more of this series and learn more of the backgrounds of Carson's friends.

A good read.

I was given this book by Lovers of Paranormal group for a fair and honest review.

Awakened By Sennah Tate, is the first book in the soul shifter series.

To be honest I have read the whole book hoping it would get better!! But I have ended up with more questions, that haven't been explained, I know this is the first book in the series, but the story should still flow and be cohesive which this is not!!!

All the characters apart from Izzy and Gemma don't seem to have much of the backgrounds explained!!

Carson's friends just mystified me because, they are always bickering but you don't know why, as none of there history is explained and why are the all so afraid of upsetting Carson. I am sorry to say I would not go out of my way to read the follow on book, as nothing has been explained properly in this storyline.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Shennah Tate. This is part 1 of the Soul of the Shifter series by the author.

When teacher Gemma Feelings is dismissed because of budget cuts she packs up and heads for a new start. Carson Sanchez was trying to get his life back in order after getting out of jail but when his sister goes missing he has to turn to his old friends for help. Together Gemma and Carson try to find Izzy and explore what is between them.

This is a different kind of a paranormal story where it is slow in showing what is going on. The plot is good but I wish the author would not have dragged it out as much.

This is for any paranormal book reader.

** I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Lovers Of Paranormal, LoP**

'Awakened' is a good read with a different take on shifters. The storyline was unique and it pulled me in from the start. It left me wanting to read more of the 'Soul Shifters Series'. The characters were great. They all seemed to have a secretive backstory that I hope will come out in future books. Gemma surprised me with her ability to take every thing in stride without freaking out too much. I liked her determination. Carson is the usual bad boy trying to better himself. Gemma and Carson compliment each other in personality and in the physical sense. I look forward to reading the next book. A good add to your tbr list. Recommended.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Judging from cover art and overall layout this copy is ready to hit the shelves. However, there's a typo already in the fourth paragraph. What a shame.

After being fired Gemma asks herself how she'd pay her bills. A few paragraphs later the reader learns that Gemma has saved enough money to live a few months without an income.
That was the point when I started to get annoyed. (We're only on page 2 of the story yet...)

Two pages later there's a grammatically wrong sentence containing another typo.
'Nuff said.

I suggest the author gets a proofreader in order to have future reviewers concentrate on the storyline instead of the poor writing style.

Strange things are a happening
Starts off like a different series but then things start to get very interesting and strange things start to happen in the town. Carson meet Gemma by helping her with a flat tire never getting her name and he can’t stop thinking about her. After Gemma get moved into her new place she makes friend with Isabel. But then Izzy goes missing and while looking for her she runs into Carson who happens to be Izzy’s brother. The root of the evil has to be stopped and Carson and Gemma find a unique talent they have together that just might help. Very intriguing story line that’s well written and very enjoyable to read.

I received this book in exchange for a review.

Gemma has been laid off from her teaching job. She decides to move from Tampa. She meets Carson when she has a flat in a downpour. She doesn't realize her new friend is his sister until Izzy turns up missing. The book started off very good. When the wolf starts showing up, I sort of got lost. There is no explanation of what is happening. By the end of the book, you get the explanation of what the wolf is. The book ends on a cliffhanger.

I enjoyed the book. It does need a little bit of editing. I would like to read the next in the series.

With this book, we start to get into the meat of the Soul Shifters story. While on a quest to find missing person Isabel, Izzy's friend Gemma and her brother Carson bond and discover a unique biproduct of their connection. Yet, will that be enough to aid them in saving Izzy? I guess that is a question that will be answered further in book two of the series.

This book sports a unique storyline which I enjoyed reading and which I recommend to others. I look forward to continuing the series.

This was the first book I have read by this author and it is a really good introduction to her writing. I loved how Carson and Gemma's story unfolded. Nothing in it seemed rushed or glossed over and both characters are well developed. The bond between Gemma and Carson was a little different than your average shifter story so made this one a more interesting read. I really enjoyed this story and will probably pick up at least the next book in the series despite some other reviews which say this is the best of the bunch.

Loved reading and can not wait for the next part to come out. The Characters in the book are great Gemma leaves a big town after being laid off. Looking for a small town and great atmosphere. She soon meets Izzy . They become great friends until Izzy disappears. She goes in search of her but finds Izzy's brother Carson. Can these 2 find Izzy before it is to late. Great story

Gemma needs Carson's help to find her missing friend. She has been crushing on this bad boy for awhile, but hasn't been able to get past her good girl self to do anything about it. Now they are going to have to work together as they discover that there is not only some serious chemistry between them, but also magic that will rock their worlds.

I give Awakened 3 hearts!

Interesting story but......

The parts of this book that I did not like was when he was so mean to her and she was okay with it that kinda bothered me a little bit. Other than that the story was pretty interesting with a different take on shifters
