Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

In book 4 of this series Cait and the gang finds them under covering the mystery of a woman who is found buried in her own grave.

She was a woman who seemed to have recently made a lot of enemies; especially, with the female population as she been openly flirting with the male population which include the married ones. Her husband’s accident death months before had her life threatened if she did not pay $20,000 that her husband owed.

Cait and the gang find themselves sorting through the clues and when her brother suddenly disappears for a few days the case draws them further in. Despite her increasing duties Cait cannot help but get involved.

Who really killed the woman and what was their true motive? Lover scorned finding she was using them as she planned her getaway or does it have to do with her husband’s activities. Another interesting read with the gang.

Very Enjoyable!

Just finished Much Ado About Felines in one sitting! This series is a cozy mystery with a slight paranormal twist. A cat always shows up to assist Cait in solving the murder. This is a great beach read or one to read sitting in front of a fire. I wish there was a place like Coffee Cats Books near me! Sounds like a great place to relax & read this book.

Coffee Cats Books is a success, meaning it takes up far more time than Cait had planned, but she still manages to get involved in all the important facets of island life. We jump right into the mystery in chapter one with additional complications and curiosities thrown in.
Kathi Daley brings us up to speed quickly about the major players and most discussed town gossip.
I especially liked her reminder that if one sets their focus, they will be amazed how much they can achieve.
Among the very best parts of a Kathi Daley mystery are the friendships and family relationships of the characters. I love her descriptions of the close knit communities and the respect for animals, but it is the relationships that keep me eagerly awaiting the next installments.
The puzzle of the cat who meets the mysterious man at the ferry had me intrigued. I even speculated that cat might turn out to be Beatrice. Kathi writes the best stories inside her stories.
Tragedy strikes with the disappearance of Cait's brother Danny, who is also one of her closest companions. Can she and her friends find and save him?
In turn, this installment is sentimental, philosophical, romantic and exciting.
All in all a very satisfying escape.

Another winning story from Kathi Daley. I love the title and the play on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing...including the fact that one of the cats central to the story is named Beatrice (a character from the play).

As is true in other books in the series, Cait and Tara, who run Coffee Cat Books together, get involved in a murder mystery (a woman is murdered and her corpse hidden in her burial plot), and a cat (in this story, it is Beatrice) appears to help them crack the case, then disappears once his or her job is complete.

While the murder is the main story, there is also a subplot of a mystery man who arrives on the island once a week and is always met and followed by a cat. The way that story plays out is a true heartbreaker!

I had a fairly good idea who the murderer was about halfway through, and I figured out the motive shortly after that, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of the book.

Can't wait to see what happens next on Madrona Island!

Much Ado About Felines is Book 4 in Kathi Daley's series Whales and Tales Mystery. Cait and her friends that live on a small island. Cait is a native and lives in her Grandmothers small cabin. She is owns a Book Store with her lifelong friend. This book store is very unique in that Cait has rescue cats in the store that can be adopted. Early in the book there is the discovery of a body buried in the graveyard. No one knew this lady was missing let alone that she had been murdered. A cat appears to help solve the mystery. There continues to be romance among the characters as the solve the mystery. This is just a lovely story as are all the books in this series. You must read them all!

This is book #4 in the Whales and Tales Series. This is the first book in this series that I have read and I found it easy to pick up on the story. This was a fast paced read and I enjoyed meeting the characters in the story.
This series is set on an island with a cat that shows up to save the day. The cat appears as it is needed and disappears when the job is done!

I enjoyed this book, and will be catching up on the older books in the series.

I highly recommend this book.

A very enjoyable book. A whole town of characters of every disposition. The main characters are quite likable. The mystery is interesting and fairly different from what I usually read in cozies. Two friends who have opened a book store/coffee shop; a pregnant teen; cats needing forever homes; adultery; drugs, a mysterious man followed by a cat, and a couple of murders. I will be reading more from this series.

In this fourth installment of Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails Mystery series, Cait and her friends again have another murder to solve. This time a body is found in a grave, a grave belonging to the deceased. How did Roxi end up dead in her own burial plot? As the murder is investigated, Cait and her friends find out that Roxi has made quite a few enemies the last few months of her life. After her husband accidentally dies, Roxi has been paying a lot of attention to the men in Pelican Bay, even the ones that are already spoken for. Could one of the women have killed Roxi in a jealous rage? Could the men have found out that Roxi was stringing along a lot of men and became so angry that they killed her? There are many different suspects and motives and it will be tough to figure this mystery out.

Another mystery contained in the book is who is the mystery man who arrives on the ferry every Saturday, stays for a few hours and then leaves. Every Saturday when he arrives, there is a cat sitting on the dock waiting for him. Cait has never seen either the man or the cat any other time, just on Saturdays. When Cait follows them one day, the man turns a corner and disappears. Cait, being a naturally curious person, has to figure out who he is and what he does every Saturday. I really enjoyed reading about this mystery, but be forewarned, I needed a kleenex by the time I was done reading about the stranger and cat.

Kathi Daley knows how to write characters that are likeable and interesting and that the reader wants to get to know better. I do not feel like I am reading a book, but rather I feel like I am sitting and catching up with friends. I love finding out what is happening in their lives and their relationships. She is also very talented in bring a small town setting to life in the reader’s mind. After reading any of her books, I think to myself “I’d like to go there for a visit”.

I love the mystical magical aspect of this series. In this book there are two cats that are involved in the mysteries, and although they do not speak, they are instrumental in the outcomes. I think this just adds another layer of awesomeness to this series.

I would recommend this book, as well as all of Kathi Daley’s series, to anyone who enjoys a whimsical well written cozy. Take a trip to Pelican Bay, meet some new friends and put your sleuthing skills to work. You will now be disappointed.

This is fourth book in Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails Mystery series and a wonderful read. I truly enjoy reading this series and watching the characters grow. When you finish reading this book, it feels like you actually know the characters. Ms. Daley has a unique writing style that brings her characters alive. As always, there is emphasis on relationships … friendships, family, community, and our furry friends. The characters are likeable and realistic, the storyline and characters are well developed, and the story flows along at a steady pace. This is an ideal cozy mystery, fun to read, clean with no bad language, graphic violence, or adult situations. I was captivated from the first page until the end and had no idea who the murderer was until the reveal. Even though this book is part of a series, Ms. Daley provides sufficient character background so it can be read as a standalone.

Cait and Tara have their store, Coffee Cat Books, open and running and Cody is publishing the newspaper. Cait’s interest is peaked when she notices a mysterious elderly man who arrives on the ferry each Saturday where a tuxedo cat waits for him and follows him. Cait follows him too and he seems to disappear into thin air, only to appear at the ferry a few hours later. Everything is going well going as the town prepares for the Masquerade Ball, until Roxi’s body is discovered in her own grave … the problem is that she isn’t in a casket and no one knew she was even dead! Cait, Cody, Tara, and Danny start to investigate the death, but Danny suddenly disappears. While Danny may not be the most organized person, it isn’t in his makeup to disappear for days. Beatrice is the special cat who Tansy sent to Cait to help her find clues to yet another murder. In addition to everything else, Cait is trying to help a 16-year old girl, Destiny, who is unwed, pregnant, and unsure of what to do. The baby's father has abandoned them and she feels like she's a burden to her mom. Destiny decides the best thing to do is run away, but Cait intervenes.

I was disappointed in this story, especially after enjoying Kathi Daley's First Case (Writers Retreat Mystery #1). Maybe it's because Much Ado About Felines is the fourth book in a series, and I haven't read the preceding three books. I was nearly halfway through the story, but very little was happening, and no progress was made on the murder, so I gave up. It was an intriguing premise: Roxie Pettigrew goes missing. A few days later, her body is found - in her own grave. Being unfamiliar with the series, I assume the characters, including the victim, are 20-30-somethings, but it was clear that it was quite unusual to find Roxie in her own grave. Sadly, the story, as far as I got, was more about the mundane events of Cait and Tara's days at Coffee Cat Books (delivering book orders, stocking and displaying mugs and tote bags, walking the dog along the beach, eating lasagna with friends and family, feeding the cats, watching a cat nap, taking a shower), but no progress was made on the death of Roxie, aside from a couple of unsubstantiated rumors that were not acted upon. It didn't grip me, and I got bored and gave up. I would be interested in reading Kathi Daley's other books, though.

Caitlin has her hands full in this 4th book in the Whales and Tails series. First is the mysterious weekly visit from the mainland of an elderly gentleman who debarks from the ferry each Saturday for only 3 hours before returning to the ferry. Even more mysterious than his appearance is the tuxedo cat that waits for him each Saturday and follows him without any apparent acknowledgement from the gentleman. Then besides this is the disappearance and subsequent finding of resident Roxi Pettigrew whose body was found in her own grave. Will Caitlin once again become involved in these investigations? Does she even have any time now that their store has finally opened. And what part in all of this does the newly found calico cat, Beatrice, play in this? I enjoy this series and as the characters grow, the story line keeps getting better. I look forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of this book.

Another great book by Kathi! This is book four in the Whales and Tales mysteries. I am so excited that Tara and Caits coffee house/bookstore is finally open! I wish I could shop there, and I love the idea of the cats in the store as well, ready to be adopted. This book actually has two mysteries in it, one, the body of a woman is found dead in her own burial plot, and we have the mystery of the man who arrives from the ferry every week, with a cat who follows him. Cait has become quite the sleuth, and of course decides to investigate the murder with the help of Beatrice, a cat who is sent by Tansy to help her, but she also wants to find out who the mystery man is. I loved both mysteries, and was guessing until the end. I love the way the story is unfolding between Cait and Cody, I hope it keeps progressing. I am excited for the next book in the series!

Great!

I love how this series is progressing. The characters have been growing from book one in the series into a great group of friends. Can't say enough about Cait and her incredible sleuthing skills and the cats that come into her life to help with the mysteries. They are awesome. I loved everything about this mystery and how Kathi kept you guessing till the end. Can't wait to find out the next step with Cait and Cody and Tara and Danny. Is there romance in the air on the island?? If you haven't read any of Kathi Daley's books you really are missing out on great adventures.

Smart cats, warm and loving characters and unusual murders with lots of suspects and motives make this a wonderful series to read for pure relaxation and enjoyment. When the murdered body of missing Roxi Pettigrew is found in the grave adjoining her recently deceased husband's, Cait and her family and friends join in to solve the unusual murder. Set on Madrona Island off the coast of Washington State this series gives us wonderful characters, psychic cats, twisted murder plots and a very tangled list of suspects. This series continues to delight and entertain on all levels as it evolves and leads us into new adventures with each book!

Cait and Tara's dream of opening Coffee Cat Books has finally come true, and the addition of adoptable cats in the cat lounge is working out well. The odd death and burial of a local woman sets their sleuthing senses on high alert. Who wanted this woman dead, and why? Cait is also captivated by the weekly appearance of an elderly man who is met by a cat then seemingly disappears. This story contains two mysteries, and is quite entertaining. One of my favorite Kathi Daley series!

DNF. No... just NO. I made it about 42 pages before I had to stop. Nothing happens in this book. Cait dusts her shop, delivers books to friends who work on the same street her store is located on, (lazy friends!) serves coffee in her shop and helps out at church. And volunteers to do extra stuff at church. And talks about going to a ball with the people from church. And there are minor characters named Destiny, Trinity and Serenity. And church this and church that because Cait is obviously a “good Christian girl” or trying really hard to pretend to be one now. But even though her family is painfully and obviously Catholic she seduced her brother’s 18 year old friend when she was 16. What a good girl, right? And now years later he’s back after retiring from the Navy and they’re friends who really like each other & are attracted to each other and seem to want more but are afraid to jeopardize said friendship. Oh and her business partner Tara (who seems to actually run the business all by herself) has the same situation going on with Danny, Cait’s brother. Gah! I can’t take two ridiculous “will they/won’t they” storylines in one book!!! I really don’t care if they do because they are all so painfully boring.

This was part of the Winter Whodunnits anthology so I’m glad I did buy this book outright because it sucks! I also realized I read about 6 pages of another Kathi (I wonder if she dots the i with a heart?) Daley book (The Cat of Christmas Past) in another anthology series and it was horrible too. So Kathi, no more of your books for me. Ever.

This was a fun murder mystery, set on am island somewhere not too far from Seattle. Cait and her best friend Tara own a bookstore that is also a coffee shop and cat shelter, and the solve mysteries in their spare time with Danny, Cait's neither and Whale watching buisiness owner, and Cody, Cait's neighbour, love interest and the local newspaper owner.

They are a very family-oriented and religious bunch, volunteering at the local church. There is also Tansy, the local witch, who uses herbs to heal and sends cats to Cait to help her solve mysteries, and of course Finn, the local policeman. It is a strange mixture to me: the Catholic religion and acceptance of witchcraftn in a single character, but the author seems to blend them well.

This is the fourth book of this series. I think I would prefer to read a first book, but this one at least had well developed characters and intetesting plot-lines: Roxy, whose husband Jimmh died a few months ago is found dead and buried in her own burial plot that she reserved next to her husband's when she buried him. It had the while town talking and Cody selling out of newspapers. Can Cait and her friends find the answer, or will Destiny the cat lead her in the right direction rather than just sleeping all day?

I've been meaning to get back to this sweet and somewhat magical series now for a long time. I read the first three at least two years ago maybe longer, but the cool thing about the series is that once I started reading, it was like I'd never left. I always love how Tansy (she makes me think of the Good Witch on TV, no not Glinda, the new Good Witch) sends a cat that eventually helps Cait take care of a major problem or case that she's working on.

The side story was a little mysterious but ended up being so adorable, you might want to keep a tissue handy as Tansy tells the story. I hadn't really guessed the killer, but the showdown was great! Everything was wrapped up with no threads hanging to continue, mysterywise anyway.

While I enjoyed the first three books in this series, this one had too many story threads in it, from the opening of their bookstore, to all the people who may have committed the murder, the strange cat following a old man off the ferry once a week and the island special events! Recommend reading it in one or two sitting to keep track of all the separate threads.
The author does have a great ways with words to describe life on an isolated island where people rally to help one another, entertain each other and sponsor festivals that help all aspects of the town.

You can’t help someone until they need to be helped. However, a lot of people seem to need help in this book. Beatrice needs to get busy! Maybe the crew doesn’t need her. They have discovered so many important things, other that who the murderer is, that they should have no trouble with that. Everything has a season, even Beatrice. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Good read, fun diversion

Nice character development. Good story line, not too predictable and not really any gore. Got some cats, some mystery, a bit of romance and a bit of nature. Short enough to read in a couple of days but long enough to entertain you and maybe even leave you asking for more.

A Murder Victim Found in Her Previously Purchased Grave

When her husband died she purchased the gravesite next to his so when her time came she could spend eternity with him. However the gravesite was not covered well and the body found. This brought Cait into another murder mystery to solve.
