Little Owl #2
Little Owl's Day
Chikit-chikit-chik!
A squirrel is chittering. Bees are buzzing. The sun is high in the sky. And Little Owl is supposed to be asleep, but when he wakes up early, he’s just too curious to close his eyes again. The forest he knows so well at nighttime is completely different – and exciting – in the day! After watching butterflies dance, wolf pups play, and then his very first rainbow, Little Owl returns to his tree. He has many new stories for his mama.
A blue sky companion to Little Owl’s Night , Little Owl’s Day is just right for young children and the perfect introduction to the joy and wonder of the natural world.

It's daytime and little owl cannot sleep...At least now he can talk to the bear who normally sleeps at night.
He cannot show him the moon, but bear can show him the rainbow.
Wonderful children's book!

Spanish Edition--- The owl can't sleep today and makes discoveries about what happens during the day in his forest. He is fascinated with the day bugs and animals and the sun and ponds.
Very cute book and drawings are nice.

Chikit-chikit-chik! Poor owl couldn't sleep because the squirrel was chewing with it's mouth open. Rude.

Little Owl returns in this follow-up to his debut adventure, chronicled in
Little Owl's Night
, this time finding himself exploring during the day, when he should be asleep. Astonished at the things he sees - animals that aren't abroad at night, butterflies instead of moths, the beauty of the misty rainbow created by the nearby waterfall - he returns home at dusk with a new appreciation of the world around him...
Although I did appreciate the narrative in Little Owl's Day, with its emphasis on discovery, and the beauty of the natural world, what really made the reading experience a pleasure was Divya Srinivasan's bold illustrations. The colors pop off the pages, which have pastel backgrounds during the day, and a deep black one at night, while the stylized animal figures are cute and somehow quite expressive. Little Owl, appropriately enough, is all eyes. I don't know that this one impressed me quite as much as its predecessor - if half stars were available, this would have been a 3.5 - but it certainly had appeal, and is one I would recommend to young animal and owl lovers, and to anyone who enjoyed the earlier book about this little strigine character.

Though I really love the prequel, Little Owl's Night, the most, this is a good little companion book, and allows us to revisit characters from the other book (and find out if Bear ever does get to see the moon!). This is just as enchanting a book, with Little Owl waking up in the day and getting to explore a world that's very unusual to him, though still familiar. The illustrations are adorable, though not as magical to me as the ones set in the deep dark night of the other book. It makes a great counterpoint, though!

I'm so glad this book exists. When my daughter is insisting on Little Owls Night and fusses at every other book, I'm able to bring this one out for my sanity and she accepts it! It's a very sweet story and I love all the animals and different sights that Little Owl discovers. Even the closure with the bear was sweet! I yawn every time I read "mama yawned." How effective! Baby loves it

Sweet story about a young owl who stays up all day while his mom sleeps. Not entirely original, but the illustrations are adorable.
This board book has a much longer narrative and more pages than similar books for babies and toddlers, so it's probably more appropriate for children old enough to enjoy the story.

Wonderful tale of a baby owl who explores the world during the day.

Lots of Kids books gonna be on this feed in the next few years since I'm Daddin' hard so be warned.
This one's a hit. Great illustrations of animals in natural environments and an engaging "fish out of water" concept with our little owl attempting a diurnal day. The bear sharing the rainbow with the owl sharing the rising moon is gangbusters. Hard for this big 'ole softie not to cry reading this one to bebe.

Very cute and sweet illustrations and story.

As with its predecessor, "Little Owl's Night," the illustrations are simple and effective, the writing is poetically paced and satisfying, and the story is pleasant. It's not quite as magical as Srinivasan's first book, but it's still sweet and fun.
I'd give it 4 stars (instead of 3), but the natural history questions that tripped me up in "Little Owl's Night" have become more distracting in this sequel. First, and most glaringly, hedgehogs don't live in North America, but all of the other animals Little Owl encounters do. That was an issue in the first book, too, but there's no place in the world where the cast of characters that appear in "Little Owl's Day" could all be found. In the first book, the species that appear (excepting the misplaced hedgehog) suggest the setting is southwest Texas, southern Missouri, or northern Arkansas. But if Little Owl went to sleep in one of those regions, how in the world is he or she waking with moose and grey wolves? I know that such natural history oversights won't bother most readers and they don't detract from the story's overall charm; still, a little research/fact-checking or a conversation with an animal nerd neighbor could have helped Srinivasan avoid alienating readers like myself.

"A sequel to Little Owl's Night, this book follows a little owl who couldn't sleep anymore. He was surprised to find that when he awoke it was daytime and it was so much different than when he is typically awake at night. There were new friends awake, enjoying their day and he learns how they typically spend their day. Finally he sees his friend bear from the first book and exclaims to him that Bear is typically asleep when he wants to show him the moon and bear responds that little owl is typically asleep when he wants to show him a rainbow. In the end, both friends get to show each other new things that they love.
Both of my kids just love this book and the book before. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and fairly simple. They love seeing each of the animals that little owl visits and how the new forest animals start to wake up as the sun begins to set. I did enjoy the first reading of this story, however it's not one of my favorites in rotation. It's at least fairly short and has lots of fun pictures with a few small details that you can ask your kids to find on each page. "

My Review: This should really be read around the same time as Little Owl's Night, they work so well together. It will bring your child's observations of the day time hours to a different level, they will find new things fascinating that they never noticed before. I love all the sounds and wonders throughout the book. Munchkin really enjoyed this one and liked to show me the things he has seen on his own outside.

Another fun book as Little Owl discovers more of the wonderful world of the forest.
The premise is a bit of a comical take on a parents worst nightmare - your kid only falls asleep for a short time after bedtime and then is wide awake for the duration of the “nighttime”. Except in this tale, little owl, a nocturnal animal, is awake all day.
Obviously little owls mother was completely wiped out from the previous night, because other than asking her young child to go back to sleep, she is not present for little owls daytime adventures. Sleep mother owl you deserve the rest!
I do like the theme that different times of the day provide different things to learn. Perhaps spending time outside of our normal waking hours will help us broaden our perspective as we observe things we would otherwise not see or experience.
I recommend this book to children as a way to learn more about the wonder of nature. Follow the reading of this book up with a walk, or two, outside and see what you and your little ones can find similar to Little Owl.

Little Owl wakes up during the day and doesn't go back to sleep despite what his mother says
Little Owl notices all the animals of the day and sees the sun, a rainbow, and other daytime-only things.
When night comes, Little Owl shares the moon with a daytime friend.
The illustrations are sharp graphics.

Kids can learn about nature by following this little owl, even I learned something new. I didn’t know that dragonflies could fly backwards. Wow. I liked how different sounds were heard in the night in comparison to the day. It’s a cute story to show the many habitats of different animals, which ones are nocturnal or diurnal. These sweet animal friends are sharing what they love about nature with each other—a rainbow in the day and the moon at night along with stars glittering in the dark sky.

Great companion to Little Owl's Night. This time, Little Owl is awake in the daytime and can't wait to explore his familiar forest under the novel light of the sun. Wonderfully relatable moments of discovery and confusion (moths! butterflies?) and sweet relationships among animals. Like the Night book, this one has so much more to offer through discussion of the details in the illustrations and great subtleties like slowly changing twilight.

Little Owl woke up in the middle of the day and couldn’t go back to sleep. So Little Owl experiences daytime. The world Little Owl knows has changed and so many things are different.
As a six month old, I can easily relate to Little Owl and how many things are new and different. This story taught me that some animals experience the world a certain way and miss out on things just because they’re only awake at night or during the day. So interesting to think about how night animals might never see the sun or animals or things that only are around during the day.
As a baby who has never experienced a rainbow, I can’t believe Little Owl would see one and yet not have a thing to say about it. My Grandma loves rainbows and says they are amazing. So one would expect Little Owl to be impressed.
This story and illustrations were great. The author lives in the same city as I do! Now I’ll have to read the book about Little Owl’s night.

My review for each of these books in the series is essentially the same. I recommend each of them for children's bedtime reading. The characters are cute, the writing is simple, yet often somehow poetic; working symbiotically with the simple yet beautifully styled illustration to create an ambiance of love, security, and wonder. I'm grateful to have found this series, as my son goes through books like candy.

A solid parable about stepping outside of your comfort zone. However, it also contains a reminder that sometimes you will learn more than you were planning to when doing so. As Little Owl returns to his tree at dusk, he finds Rabbit settling into a burrow underneath it. In addition to finding squatters in his basement, his encounter with Bear is unsettling.

This book is a fun way to show children what kind of animals live within a specific habitat. It is cool how the owl who normally sleeps during the day is up and can see what normally doesn't get to be seen by him. I enjoy how he is having such a great day as the day progresses and even though he is finally sleepy he wants to tell his night friends all about what he saw.

I can see why this book is a story time favorite but for this reader it was just so-so. Owl gets up way too early and gets to experience Day for the first time. He learns how it differs from his night, and even gets shown new things by friends. The illustrations are cute, but not award winning.

I read this book in my efforts to learn Spanish. It is a short story and introduced several new words related to nature that I didn't know. I recommend it for anybody beginning to learn Spanish. The little owl, who usually is sleeping during the day, ventures out and discovers that the landscape is very different in the day than at night.

Little Owl is awake during the day and seeing a whole new world around him!
This is a cute idea to have a nocturnal animal comparing all the "night and day" differences. The story is perhaps a 3 star rating, but it was the art style that we really weren't keen on.
Still a sweet book, and I'm sure would be fun to read right after Srinivasan's other Little Owl book ("Little Owl's Night")

The illustrations in this book are so engaging that they push this book to 4 stars for me. I love books that just have a sentence to read on each page for beginning readers. And that is the way this book is.

Little Owl is awakened during the day and learns about all that is going on in the forest. In sparse language and gentle illustrations Little Owl learns about the animals and what they do in the forest during the day in this follow up Little Owls Night.
