A genie down on his luck, Tig wanted nothing more than to get to Vegas and wait for life to unscrew itself. Things would have gone just fine, if not for the witch in the airport shoving her way to the front of the line. He had every intention of letting her know how little he appreciated her rudeness... then he looked into her eyes and felt the chains around his heart clink to the floor.
Dinah craved a peaceful vacation and was willing to step on a few toes to get it. Unfortunately, some of them belonged to a sizzling genie with lust on the brain and trouble in his eyes. He, and the trouble, followed her home. Damn shame she couldn't separate the two. She didn't need or want anything long term, and had to make him understand that.
Yet more than lust is on the line. Dark forces mean to separate and destroy them both. What started as a mile-high fling, rapidly turned into a fight for life and love. Only together do they have a shot of making it out of this alive.
I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book. I loved the two characters and their banter, and especially connected with Tig. He was a rather unconventional hero - cocky and self-assured, but when we switched to his viewpoint he was insecure and worried. He was silly and playful, and while he had brief hints at ~alpha male~ moments, the book never put him in a position to display his strength or possessiveness.
In fact, one thing I loved about this book is that both characters are kidnapped/held against their will. And the girl saves both of them.
For being such a short book, it was of course rushed in places. I wish the author had slowed down and taken the time to let us get to know these characters more, but it was such a breath of fresh air from the rest of the romance I've been reading, and has two POC protags (she is Black, he is Middle Eastern), that I am just very happy I spent time with this book and will definitely be looking for more from this author.
This was quite the hot mess. For a short novella it's hard to make suggestions for improvement because...well...it's SHORT. But for the sake of giving a review I'll speak my mind. First, I think this story needed more editing as I ran into a lot of grammar and spelling errors. To the point where the dialogue between the two characters would become muddled and I would often loose track of who was talking. Second, this novella was a chore to get through because it just wasn't very funny or sexy to me. I kept putting it down every five or ten pages. It came across as corny and stupid. The erotic aspects of this story put the main characters in the same category of horny college students. Their love never felt natural just cheesy and forced with one person afraid of commitment and the other sure of their pre-destined "mate." Finally, if you love a "insta-love" couple and a silly plot that strings you along with promises of the couple's HEA ending, then this is the short story for you. I gave this a one-star rating for the interracial couple as I think more authors should show diversity in heroes and heroines.
Very generously giving this 3 stars. The premise for the novella was good. The story kept my attention enough to finish reading it. The characters had on & off moments where I waffled between like & dislike. It was hard to follow the dialogue of who was talking when. I'm not a fan of dialogues that go from quote to quote without a designation of some sort, because after a few quotes, I lose track of who is saying what. I would have liked a bit more background for the characters, but I realize I'm wishing for too much with a novella. The story was loaded with proof-reading errors as well. Between the errors & the following dialogue, it made it a slow read, with all the back-tracking trying to sort meaning or who said what. I wouldn't want to continue with the series.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
A fabulously novel take on the genie in the lamp scenario.
Tig, said Genie, hates his life of servitude to the lamp. He hopes to be freed eventually but it's going to take a whole lot of searching to find a willing owner to set him free. has absolutely nothing going for himself, and that goes double for his abysmal love life.
Dinah, a witch, is escaping from the madness which comes with the magical equivalent of spring break. When she runs into the handsome stranger in the check in line, she keeps herself in check, no romantic entanglements!!! This guy has trouble written all over him!
She uses a little magic to get on her plane in time, and if they delay a certain hunk a'handsome then so be it. But when her magical roadblock backfires and the genies on wish magic plays against her, sparks fly.
When a nasty piece of work finds Tig, will Dinah overcome apparent hurts and save him?
Tig is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome and Dinah... well she is just awesome! These are not your average blonde blue eyed leads, which is a refreshing change! I loved their chemistry and the story was tightly bound plotted.
A true must have..and can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.
It was hard following the story at times. I had difficulty determining who was speaking and sometimes what they were doing. I liked the premise of the book. With an editor, this could be an awesome read. I did like Dinah and Tig but felt they were not quite developed. The dark witch fell flat to me. Her character was not hashed out completely, though I did not like her character. This was free on B&N and a quick read. It would have been quicker, but I had to reread several parts.
I saw this book on Amazon and couldn't resist making a purchase because the plot seemed so unique, A middle eastern man and an African- American woman; a witch and a djin. Why not?
I found this book to be everything that I was hoping for and a little more, good and steamy is how I would describe this book.
This is a novella, and it took me about an hour to read. I liked it, it was a cute fantasy novel with a heavy romance element and lots of steamy love scenes. Despite a few typos, I enjoyed this story. I can't wait for a full length novel from this author, and it would nice if she brought back Tig and Dinah. Happy reading!
This is my first paranormal book about genies and witches. Tig and Dinah were amazing characters and I loved their magical story. This is definitely a fast paced hard to put down book. Be prepared to read it straight through as this incredible author keeps your interest with every word. Can't wait to read more of this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was free!! I have not read any books about Genies before. The story kept me wanting to read more and the interaction between all characters was smooth and easy to read. I really was quite disappointed when the story finished. I would recommend this book quite happily and I am now going to read the next one!
A handsome djinn (genie) & a beautiful witch mated. There was insecurity, uncertainty, magic, power, ethnic diversity, the good, the bad & sexually charged. The woman saves the day! I loved it. This author is new to me & I'm looking forward to the next installment.
The Genie's Witch is a short engaging read with a well developed H/h and story line. i was surprised that I was pulled into the story so quickly and that Ms. Brittan was able to convey so much in so short an amount of time. A very satisfying quick read.
A djinni and a witch step into an airport and all kinds of magic happens! Both are traveling to their vacation in different towns but their attraction is instant and strong. Read it all in one sitting and loved every minute.
This introduction into a cool world was pretty good. The main characters were a little stupid when it came to each other but other than that this was a pretty good read.
An all around good book. Nothing too great, but had a couple twists thrown in to make it interesting. Love a good love story though and it had a happy ending.
This is a fun little paranormal romance. I really enjoyed reading about two very different magical beings. I am intrigued enough to want to read a bit more of this series.
