It is an account of the Stockholm underworld and the first of a planned trilogy called The Stockholm Noir Trilogy. Two years later the second installment, Aldrig Fucka Upp was published by Wahlström & Widstrand. A graphic novel with illustrator Peter Bergting (The Portent) entitled Gängkrig 145 was published May 2009. While this project does tie into his previous novels, it is not the third part of The Stockholm Noir Trilogy as some Swedish media has claimed. Lapidus' writing has been compared to James Ellroy and Dennis Lehane.

This is an absolutely terrific Scandinavian thriller, but I had to read a third of the way through before the disparate threads began to connect and I began to become invested in the novel. Emelie Jansson is a rookie lawyer taken on by an exclusive law firm to work on Mergers and Acquisition. Teddy is an investigator with the firm with a background of having served 8 years in prison for the kidnapping of Mats Emanuelsson, without giving up others involved. On Varmado Island, a man has been murdered in a cottage, but it has not been possible to identify him. Close by, Benjamin Emanuelsson has suffered severe injuries in a car crash. The police are convinced that Benjamin is the killer and charge him. Out of the blue, Emelie gets a call that Benjamin wants her to be his lawyer. She has no idea who he is. Her firm categorically do not want her to take the case and she has no experience as a criminal defence lawyer. Emelie takes the case, working below the radar, with the help of Teddy.
Teddy is trying to put his past behind him, but as he comes to understand that there was much more to the kidnapping than a ransom, he is forced to reacquaint himself with his criminal brethren, and become the wily hard man he was once reputed to be. He wants to get to the bottom of the mystery despite the fact that it may cost him his life and those close to him. 19 year old Nikola is Teddy's nephew, just released after a spell in a youth custodial centre. Nikola loves his uncle Teddy, but circumstances are conspiring to put him on a similar troubled path as Teddy. Nikola finds himself needing a lawyer, he calls on Emelie, who cannot say no. Mats Emanuelsson, a man with a fatal addiction to gambling, finds himself in hock to the Yugoslav mafia, becoming The Magician. He is arrested by the police, and becomes a police informant. His interviews with Joakim Sunden give detailed information on his extensive role in financial fraud. Mats finds it difficult to cope after being kidnapped and goes on to commit suicide. Despite the dangers they find themselves in, Teddy, Emelie and Nikola are determined to find the truth and ensure that Benjamin receives justice, but will they succeed?
The story does not tie up all the threads and it ends on a real cliffhanger, I imagine that there will be a sequel. After a slow start, the story becomes fast paced, with such high levels of tension and suspense that I could not stop reading. Stockholm delete refers to the practice of making people disappear. I really liked the characters of Emelie and Teddy, their relationship with each other, their determination, and how they develop in the novel. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was impressed by his ability to tell a rattling good yarn. I am certainly keen to read other books by him when they become available. This is a complex murder mystery. A new lawyer, Emelie Jansson, is requested by name by a murder suspect, Benjamin Emanuelsson. She goes to see him in the prison hospital, where he is recovering from a concussion due to an auto accident near the murder scene. He can speak only a little, but he says: "Get Teddy to understand." Teddy is a friend and an ex convict who sometimes does investigative work for her law firm.
She calls Teddy and tells him what Benjamin said. It turns out that Teddy had kidnapped Benjamin's father years ago and served 8 years in prison without giving up any of the others involved. He was told the kidnapping was for money, but now has reason to believe that there was more than money involved. In order to help Benjamin and Emelie, he must go back to the kidnapping and find out what else was involved. This leads him into the dangerous world of killers for hire and corrupt policemen. Corrupt policemen in Sweden?? Who would've thought that?
There are two threads in this book, one present day as Emelie, Teddy and his nephew Nikola interact with various criminals trying to determine who was killed at the murder scene and who did the killing. The second is a series of interviews with Mats Emanuelson, Benjamin's father, now dead by suicide. The interviews are between Mats and a police officer Joakim Sunden, who has persuaded Mats to become a police informant, telling the police about his work as an accountant, covering up financial fraud. The narrative goes back and forth between the two threads. The cliffhanger ending resolves some of the mystery but not all of it, because some of the bad guys are still on the loose. The story drags a little in the beginning as the author goes back and forth between the two threads, but the pace picks up about halfway in. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Čia ne iš tų knygų, kur perskaitysi vienu prisėdimu. Ir ne iš tų trilerių, kurie persmelkti kraupių scenų ir žiaurių žmogžudysčių. Taip, čia veiksmo daug, bet jis kitoks. Iš pat pradžių buvo sunku susiorentuoti tarp šokinėjančių temų ir veikėjų, kas su kuo susijęs ir apskritai, kas ir prie ko dabar čia vyskta. Sunkiausia man buvo skaityti apklausas, kai buvo aiškinamos pinigų plovimo machinacijos ir schemos. Aš visiškai nesigaudau biržose, akcijose ir apskritai finansų sritį, tad net ir perskaitydama po kelis kartus nelabai ten ką supratau😅 nors greiti trileriai yra mano favoritai, tačiau džiaugiuosi išbandžiusi kažką naujo. Nekantraudama manęs jau laukia sekanti serijos dalis.

Stockholm Delete is the first book I’ve read by Swedish author Jens Lapidus and what a ride deep into the Swedish underbelly it is. It’s probably important to mention that Lapidus is a Swedish criminal defence lawyer as well as an author and Stockholm Delete certainly reads like it is written by someone well in the know of the the darker side of Stockholm. The main characters, Emelie and Teddy are very slightly cliche but likeable. Teddy is up to his eyeballs in the seedier side of Sweden but really trying to stay on he right side of the law and Emelie is a business lawyer with a criminal defence lawyer wannabe opportunity. While the book is a complete story in and of itself (and apparently the second in a series - but I have not been able to lay my hands on the English version of the first one) it ends on a cliffhanger that makes the reader want to get in to the next one!
This was probably 3.5 stars for me but I’ll round it to 4 because it really was a riveting read. Different from Scandi noir but a great Swedish crime thriller.

O livro começa bem, apresentando-nos um violento homicídio e um suspeito que está entre a vida e a morte. Assim, esta premissa levanta várias questões:
Qual é a identidade do morto?
O que fazia um jovem dentro de um carro acidentado perto do local do crime?
Será ele o culpado?
Como poderá defender-se estando internado num hospital inconsciente?
Tantas eram as questões que a minha curiosidade borbulhava por todos os poros. Contudo, à medida que avançamos na trama o autor decide andar às voltas e voltas e focar-se em pontos pouco interessantes para a resolução do mistério. A partir de determinada altura, deixei de ter paciência para as intrigas das gangues suecas e estava à espera que o autor voltasse ao ponto central da história.
Relativamente à escrita, salta à vista que o autor é advogado logo nas primeiras páginas pois o jargão a que recorre em alguns momentos é um pouco complexo demais para o comum leitor.
Por tudo isto, considero que "Apagar Estocolmo" é um livro que tinha muito potencial, pois o autor partiu de uma ideia interessante, mas que acabou por perder-se em acontecimentos menos relevantes e personagens com pouco conteúdo.

Το ''Stockholm Delete'' είναι αρκετά πιο αδύναμο από την τριλογία ''Stockholm Noir'' και δυστυχώς ο Lapidus δεν καταφέρνει να ανταποκριθεί στις υψηλές προσδοκίες του αναγνωστικού κοινού, τις οποίος ο ίδιος δημιούργησε με τα τρία πρώτα βιβλία του. Φαίνεται πως δεν είχε την αναμενόμενη εξέλιξη ως μυθιστοριογράφος και τα, μετέπειτα της τριλογίας ''Stockholm Noir'', βιβλία του μοιάζουν να είναι χλιαρές απομιμήσεις ή ακόμα και κακέκτυπα του πρωτου βιβλίου που μας έβαλε για τα καλά στο κόσμο του περιθωρίου στα προάστια της Στοκχολμης με όλα τα προβλήματα που έχει να αντιμετωπίσει, μας εξοικείωσε με ιδιαίτερους αντί-ήρωες τους οποίους τελικά συμπαθούσαμε και συμπάσχαμε μαζί τους παρά τα πάμπολλα και λίαν ενοχλητικά ελλατώματά τους και διέγειρε τη φαντασία μας με την αναπαράσταση ενός κόσμου που θύμιζε πολύ το σκηνικό μιας σύγχρονης crime/noir ταινίας. Αυτός ήταν και ο λόγος άλλωστε που οι κινηματογραφικές μεταφορές της τριλογιας ''Stockholm Noir'' ήταν ιδιαίτερα πετυχημένες, το ίδιο το κείμενο παρείχε αυτή τη δυναμική που εκμεταλλεύτηκαν με τον καλύτερο τρόπο οι σεναριογράφοι των ταινιών.
Το ''Stockholm Delete'' είναι με βεβαιότητα το χειρότερο βιβλίο του Lapidus που έχω διαβάσει μέχρι στιγμής , με μια κεντρική ιστορία που σε αφήνει αδιάφορο,3 παράλληλες αφηγήσεις, των οποίων η συσχέτιση και η διαπλοκή παραμένει ασαφής ακόμα και ύστερα το τέλος της ανάγνωσης και πολλά ερωτηματικά αναφορικά με την πλοκή που μένουν αναπάντητα, συνέβαλλαν σε μια ανιαρή εμπειρία από την οποία δεν υπήρχαν πολλά για να αποκομίσει κανείς σε ορους σασπένς, χαρακτήρων ή διαλόγων. Μακάρι στο μέλλον ο Lapidus να μας κάνει με τη δουλειά του να θυμόμαστε το ''Stockholm Delete'' ως ένα κατά κάποιον τρόπο ''στραβοπάτημα'' του, μια κακή παρένθεση που έχει ήδη κλείσει και δεν θα επαναληφθει.

Ό,τι υπόσχεται το οπισθόφυλλο, το μόνο σίγουρο είναι πως βρίσκεται πράγματι μέσα στο βιβλίο. Πολύ φρέσκια γραφή, μπόλικη δράση, δυνατό σασπένς, ιδιαίτεροι χαρακτήρες και ιδέες λίγο παράξενες και λίγο ασυνήθιστες—όμως πολύ, πολύ ενδιαφέρουσες. Είναι το δεύτερο μέρος μιας τριλογίας που ακολουθεί τον πρώην εγκληματία Τέντι Μάσκουμιτς και την δικηγόρο Έμελι Γιάνσον, που η έμμεσα ή άμεσα, μαζί ή και χώρια, εμπλέκονται με τον τρόπο τους στον σουηδικό υπόκοσμο. Σίγουρα θα έχω τον νου μου και για τις άλλες δυο τους περιπέτειες!

Έπειτα από 450 σελίδες, όχι τόσο αδιάφορης, όσο εκπληκτικά κουραστικής αφήγησης, ευτυχώς οι τελευταίες 200 σελίδες άξιζαν τον κόπο και με αντάμειψαν για την υπομονή μου και την επιμονή μου να μην το παρατήσω. Είχα σκοπό να βάλω μόνο ένα αστεράκι, αλλά ευτυχώς το ικανοποιητικό του τέλος με έκανε να αλλάξω γνώμη. Τρία αστεράκια λοιπόν κι αυτό γιατί δεν μπορώ να παραβλέψω το γεγονός ότι απογοητεύτηκα - το πρώτο της τριλογίας με είχε ενθουσιάσει σε πολύ μεγάλο βαθμό και αυτό εδώ δεν έπαψε ούτε στιγμή να μου δίνει την εντύπωση ότι ήταν σαν να έχει γραφτεί από κάποιον άλλον.

Așa cum bănuiam, trilogia Teddy & Emelie reprezintă o singură mare și întinsă poveste, extrem de amplă, de ramificată și de stufoasă, care, din păcate, încă n-a fost tradusă în întregime (la noi, la alții, da). Și se încheie cam frustrant, cam în coadă de pește. E drept că m-am lămurit cam cum stă treaba, dar mai rămân pedepsele, implicațiile, scopurile, motivele, explicațiile, ce se întâmplă cu nepotul lui Teddy, ce se întâmplă cu inevitabila relație care se înfiripă între două firi atât de diferite, încât ai zice că provin de pe planete diferite... Și mai sunt destule. Abia aștept, însă. Lapidus își construiește intriga cu o minuțiozitate aproape exasperantă, de parcă nici nu reușești să dai paginile la viteza dorită, pentru a afla ce se întâmplă mai departe. Ce se întâmplă mai departe, adică în volumele unu și doi doar, că pe trei îl mai avem nițel de așteptat, o să vă explic într-o recenzie pe Bookblog.

Jens Lapidus‘ hoch gelobter 637-seitiger Thriller „Schweigepflicht“ ist im April 2019 bei btb erschienen.
Sie: Emelie, frisch gebackene Anwältin in einer der renommiertesten Wirtschaftskanzleien des Landes.
Er: Teddy, Ex-Knacki auf dem Weg der Läuterung und freier Mitarbeiter in ebendieser Kanzlei
Als auf einer Schäreninsel ein grausam zugerichteter Leichnam gefunden und daraufhin der bewusstlose Benjamin Emanuelsson des Mordes verdächtigt wird, engagiert dieser Emilie als seine Verteidigerin. Gemeinsam mit Teddy begibt sie sich daraufhin auf die Suche nach dem wahren Hintergrund – und stößt dabei auf einen Fall, der schon viele Jahre zurückliegt.
Der Beginn des Buches ist etwas verwirrend, werden doch viele verschiedene Charaktere und scheinbar unzusammenhängende Handlungsstränge rasch nacheinander eingeführt, was andererseits aber auch neugierig darauf macht, diese zu durchdringen. Und tatsächlich werden im Laufe des Lesens Zusammenhänge immer ersichtlicher. Das Auffinden der Leiche gleich zu Beginn weckt ebenfalls Interesse und baut einen Spannungsbogen auf, der allerdings etwas später ziemlich rasch einbricht. Über weite Strecken des Thrillers dümpelt die Handlung eher so vor sich hin, und Rückblenden in das Leben der Protagonistin berühren die Thematik des Romans eher am Rande. Erst gegen Ende nimmt die Handlung wieder an Tempo zu und endet schließlich in einem überraschenden Finale. Der Epilog mit seinem Cliffhanger lässt eine mögliche Fortsetzung offen.
Das Geschehen wird aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und auf unterschiedlichen Zeitebenen geschildert, wobei vor allem Aktennotizen den Zusammenhang zum mehrere Jahre zurückliegende Fall herstellen.
Stil und Sprache des Autors sind flott zu lesen und durchaus vielfältig sowie der jeweiligen Perspektive angepasst, was an sich ein Pluspunkt wäre; allerdings mochte ich Wörter wie „voll krass“ und „naiß“ am Ende kaum mehr lesen. Was auf der einen Seite ein gutes sprachliches Mittel darstellt, um ein Milieu zu verdeutlichen, kann auf die Dauer recht ermüdend wirken. Insofern verstehe ich nicht so recht, was an diesem Roman „sprachlich genial“ sein soll, vor allem da sprachlich Ausgefeiltes oder Besonderes gänzlich fehlt.
Die Charaktere sind vielschichtig und entwicklungsfähig gezeichnet, was man insbesondere Teddys und Nikolas Darstellung entnehmen kann. Dennoch wurde ich mit keinem der Charaktere wirklich „warm“, bleiben sie doch trotz allem eher distanziert. Vor allem Emelie fiel mir mit ihrer teilweise doch sehr unprofessionellen Herangehensweise immer wieder auf die Nerven.
Der Thriller spielt vor allem im Umfeld der schwedischen Jugoslawen-Mafia, die Grundstimmung ist entsprechend eher deprimierend, ohne dass jedoch eine ansonsten in diesem Bereich anzutreffende Brutalität zum Tragen käme, was mir persönlich positiv aufgefallen ist. Anhand von Teddys Neffen Nikola werden zudem Probleme aufgezeichnet, die Jugendliche haben, wenn sie ihren Platz in der Gesellschaft suchen.
Punkten konnte der Thriller bei mir auf jeden Fall mit der integrierten Kritik am Justizwesen, wenn Emelie am Ende sagt: „Ich will zu einem System beitragen, das alle unterstützt, (…) sich um die Menschen bemüht, die schwach und isoliert sind.“

Jens Lapidus‘ hoch gelobter 637-seitiger Thriller „Schweigepflicht“ ist im April 2019 bei btb erschienen.
Sie: Emelie, frisch gebackene Anwältin in einer der renommiertesten Wirtschaftskanzleien des Landes.
Er: Teddy, Ex-Knacki auf dem Weg der Läuterung und freier Mitarbeiter in ebendieser Kanzlei
Als auf einer Schäreninsel ein grausam zugerichteter Leichnam gefunden und daraufhin der bewusstlose Benjamin Emanuelsson des Mordes verdächtigt wird, engagiert dieser Emilie als seine Verteidigerin. Gemeinsam mit Teddy begibt sie sich daraufhin auf die Suche nach dem wahren Hintergrund – und stößt dabei auf einen Fall, der schon viele Jahre zurückliegt.
Der Beginn des Buches ist etwas verwirrend, werden doch viele verschiedene Charaktere und scheinbar unzusammenhängende Handlungsstränge rasch nacheinander eingeführt, was andererseits aber auch neugierig darauf macht, diese zu durchdringen. Und tatsächlich werden im Laufe des Lesens Zusammenhänge immer ersichtlicher. Das Auffinden der Leiche gleich zu Beginn weckt ebenfalls Interesse und baut einen Spannungsbogen auf, der allerdings etwas später ziemlich rasch einbricht. Über weite Strecken des Thrillers dümpelt die Handlung eher so vor sich hin, und Rückblenden in das Leben der Protagonistin berühren die Thematik des Romans eher am Rande. Erst gegen Ende nimmt die Handlung wieder an Tempo zu und endet schließlich in einem überraschenden Finale. Der Epilog mit seinem Cliffhanger lässt eine mögliche Fortsetzung offen.
Das Geschehen wird aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und auf unterschiedlichen Zeitebenen geschildert, wobei vor allem Aktennotizen den Zusammenhang zum mehrere Jahre zurückliegende Fall herstellen.

Viel von einem Thriller ist in Schweigepflicht leider nicht drin, höchstens gegen Ende fünfzig Seiten. Die haben es dann in sich, nur den Rest über fließt die Handlung gemütlich vor sich hin. Es ist nicht langweilig, nur Spannung, die einem dazu animiert weiter zu lesen kommt nicht auf.
Das größte Problem des Buches ist, dass es zu viel möchte und sich in seiner Komplexität verliert. Zu Beginn gibt es drei Handlungsstränge, die nur leichte Berührungspunkte durch die Anwältin Emelie haben. Das Zentrum des Falls dagegen ist Teddy. Die Beziehung zwischen den beiden und generell die Figuren sind eher blass. Sie bleiben auf der Strecke neben der eher komplexen Handlung. Denn dort sollte man aufpassen, um einen Überblick zwischen den Zusammenhängen zu behalten. Durch die Überforderung am Anfang habe ich nach ein paar hundert Seiten den Spaß verloren noch mitzuraten und durchblicken zu wollen, sodass ich einfach abgewartet habe was passiert. Das funktioniert auch, macht das Leseerlebnis aber eher anstrengend.
Vor allem mit dem Ende bin ich der Meinung, dass sich die ganzen 600+ Seiten eher wie eine Einführung lesen. Der Fall wird insofern gelöst, dass Emelie ihren Job als Verteidigerin meistert, trotzdem bleiben viele Fragen offen.
Alles in allem bin ich eher enttäuscht, denn all das was ich mir erhofft habe (komplexe und abgeschlossene Handlung, interessante Charaktere) wurde nicht oder nur ansatzweise erfüllt. Visomis prasmėmis puikiai išpildytas kriminalinis romanas. Daug veiksmo, įvykių, tikroviški veikėjai, kurie nuolat bėdoje (ir kaip tik tai daro juos tikroviškais lyginant su kitais autoriais, kurių veikėjai nuolat supermenai, kurie išgyvena paskutinę akimirką, visus ištaško ir nuobodžiai geria vakarais) ir tas fantastiškas autoriaus rašymo stilius, kuriuo tikrai žaviuosi.
Trumpai, vyriškai, be galo aiškiai ir su tinkama ironija. Nepatiks tiems, kas įpratę prie išvedžiojimų ir po penkias pastraipas aprašinėjamų saulėlydžių ar visą puslapį besitęsiančių kankinimų. Bet jei skaitytojas ieško gero gatvę ir teisę apimančio romano, kuris kupinas žargonu persmelktų dialogų, veikėjų, kurie atitinka realius nusikaltėlius - ši knyga kaip tik tokia. Autorius nebando papirkti beprasmiško žiaurumo scenomis ar pigiais charakteriais kaip koks gražuolis, prasigėręs mentas medžioja priešą "iš praeities". Nieko panašaus čia nėra. Ir kaip tik už nėjimą į standartus labai gerbiu šį autorių. Jis netempia knygos aprašymais, pigiomis sekso ar žiaurumo scenomis. 500 su virš puslapių, bet juose nuolatos kažkas vyksta, o veikėjai iš tiesų bando išlikti, kovoti, ieškoti, išgyventi.
Švedijos nusikalstamas pasaulis neatsiejamas nuo jugoslavų imigrantų, ką labai teisingai čia ir vaizduoja rašytojas. O teisinė sistema niekada nebus ideali. Patiko retai kur aptinkami psichologiniai aspektai, kuriuos pasitelkdamas jis sudėlioja gerus veikėjų portretus. Niekas nėra tas, kas atrodė, o pabaiga - stipri, be banalybių, tokia, kokia ir priklauso tokio tipo romanui.

Um dia recebe um telefonema de uma prisão a dizer que um recluso, acusado de homicídio, a escolheu para o representar. Após alguma indecisão, aceita representá-lo sem o seu chefe saber e contra a sua vontade.

I would like to thank Netgalley for an advance copy of Stockholm Delete, a stand alone thriller set in the seedy underbelly of Stockholm.
The novel opens with a security guard discovering a shot body and seeing a car crash near the crime scene. It then switches to Nikola's last days in a juvenile detention centre before release, then to police interviews with a confidential informant, Mats Emanuelsson, then to Emelie Jansson and her confirmation to a lawyer and finally to Teddy, an ex con trying to go straight. Emelie is the main protagonist but Teddy is the link. He works as an investigator with Emelie's law firm after 8 years behind bars for the kidnap of Mats Emanuelsson, he is Nikola's uncle and when Benjamin Emanuelsson wakes up from his car crash he asks for mergers and acquisitions lawyer Emelie to represent him and tells her to get Teddy to understand.
I thoroughly enjoyed Stockholm Deleted which is a grown up, sophisticated read with a bit of everything. The plotting is detailed and complex and, with Mr Lapidus being an eminent criminal defence lawyer, it has the ring of authenticity. There is violence, corruption, money laundering and gangs. Teddy is a former gang member in the immigrant underworld and Nikola is a wannabe so this world features prominently in the novel. Their twisted code of ethics and loyalties makes for fascinating reading as nothing is as us ordinary mortals would expect.
It may seem from the above description that this is a very dark novel but on the contrary it is a novel filled with hope from Emelie's decision to help Benjamin regardless of the consequences for herself, like loss of her job, to Teddy's determination to do right by the Emanuelssons when he discovers that there was more to Matt's kidnapping than he was told. Obviously it is not all sweetness and light but it is very realistic.
As a newly minted lawyer and one fresh to criminal work Emelie is the reader's guide to the Swedish legal system. It seems very different to ours - Emelie is expected to construct a defence with no idea until very late in the day of the evidence against her client. It's interesting.
I found the first few chapters compulsive reading as they draw you in and arouse your curiosity about Matt's story, what happens to Benjamin and where Nikola fits in. Teddy and Emelie are fairly obvious. It is a fairly long novel and to me it sags a bit in the middle with not much forward propulsion, more Emelie and Teddy going through the motions but it picks up again with more action and a resolution.
Stockholm Delete requires a fair amount of concentration to keep up with the large cast of characters and complicated plotting but it is rewarding so I have no hesitation in recommending it as a good read.

No reply. I thought about when he’d come down to the strip club and saved me and my poker friends. I got out of the car.
Gamla stan: the historical heart of Stockholm, its midpoint. I don’t have any relationship to that part of town, other than vague memories of a guided tour there sometime in high school, when the guide told us about Stockholm’s bloodbath. Christian II—Christian the tyrant, you know?—he’d chopped the heads off a load of Swedes there. That was five hundred years ago. The same thing still happens in other parts of the world.
Sweden’s changed, and changed again. It’s a safe country now. It’s for the people, that’s what they say anyway—a welfare state without parallel. And maybe that’s true. All I know is that it’s too fucking easy to make dirty money clean in this country. And that if you��re high enough up in the hierarchy, you can do whatever you want to other people.
Jens Lapidus is one of my favourite living crime writers, hands down, no question. Alongside George Pelecanos and Richard Price.
First, because he's methodical. Lapidus, a former defence attorney, gets into the details of his crimes: how weapons are acquired, how drugs are trafficked, how money is laundered, how criminals fuck up.
Second, because of the constant sense of class anxiety. Gangsters trying to go legit, the establishment trying to accrue more wealth, professionals just trying to hold on, and kids looking for a chance. Teddy's return home from prison and his shock at how the surveillance state and privatization have crept in. Lapidus has this great way of invoking class by using brand names and descriptions of interior design.
The last tenth of the book veers off into thriller territory, which made it feel kind of rushed. I felt I had to overlook a few details to let the story work, though by that point the story had earned it. Would recommend anyone who hasn't read Lapidus yet to check out the Easy Money trilogy first.

Ihan ok perus-rikoskirja lomalla luettavaksi. Kulki eteenpäin, hieman mysteerin tuntua ja jonkin verran toimintaa. Ei mitään kovin rankkaa sisältöä eikä vaativia juonikiemuroita. Sellainen ei-ärsyttävä, ja päähenkilöistäkin, varsinkin Teddystä, sai jonkinlaisen otteen.

Solid 3 - The story and plot, pretty interesting, though at times it felt a bit stretching. One problme I had was with numerous number of characters which make it a bit hard to remember who is who and their contribution to the story.
I liked the two main characters, Emelie and Teddy, a lot and wish there were more of those two and their work together. The ending was a big cliffhanger so I assume we will see what happens in the book #3!

Opnieuw een oerdegelijke thriller van Jens Lapidus die geen seconde verveelt.

"Stockholm delete" is na "VIP room" het tweede deel in de tweede trilogie van Zweeds advocaat / misdaadauteur Jens Lapidus. Zijn eerste trilogie, de "Snel geld / snabba cash" trilogie, heb ik in één ruk uitgelezen en met veel plezier en waardering verslonden. VIP room vond ik minder indrukwekkend, maar dat wordt ruimschoots gecompenseerd door deze klepper.
"Stockholm delete" is een thriller van formaat. Emelie en Teddy uit VIP Room zijn terug, en hoe! Ze staan voor een raadsel wanneer Benjamin Samuelsson aangehouden wordt voor moord. Benjamin, zoon van de dood gewaande Mats Samuelsson, witwaskoning van Stockholm die zich van het leefde beroofde door van een Finse ferry te springen, vraagt aan Teddy om hulp en Emilie om verdediging. De twee gaan op onderzoek uit en stoten opnieuw op de Zweedse onderwereld, de netwerken die het daglicht niet mogen zien, vernuftige financiële constructies en duistere figuren. Lukt het hen de waarheid aan het licht te brengen?
Niet alleen een spannend verhaal met een bijzonder goed uitgewerkt plot, waarbij de personages uit VIP room eindelijk wat meer diepgang krijgen en het hele verhaal dus meer indruk maakt; bovendien geeft Lapidus ook blijk van een grondige kennis van zaken over het hele witwasgebeuren. De beschreven constructies en wettelijke achtergronden kloppen als een bus, wat de geloofwaardigheid van het boek zeer ten goede komt en wat zeker bijdraagt tot de kracht van het verhaal. De geschetste constructies en de plot zorgen er ook voor dat je als lezer je hoofd er moet bijhouden, iets wat ik bijzonder waardeer. Niets zo afstompend als een thriller waarbij de oplossing voorgekauwd op een plateautje wordt aangeboden.
Kortom, het tweede boek heeft wat het eerste boek niet had, en we kunnen alleen maar hopen dat het crescendo gaat, zodat het derde boek een knaller van formaat wordt. Ik blijf fan van Lapidus.
"Stockholm delete" is een thriller van formaat. Emelie en Teddy uit VIP Room zijn terug, en hoe! Ze staan voor een raadsel wanneer Benjamin Samuelsson aangehouden wordt voor moord. Benjamin, zoon van de dood gewaande Mats Samuelsson, witwaskoning van Stockholm die zich van het leefde beroofde door van een Finse ferry te springen, vraagt aan Teddy om hulp en Emilie om verdediging. De twee gaan op onderzoek uit en stoten opnieuw op de Zweedse onderwereld, de netwerken die het daglicht niet mogen zien, vernuftige financiële constructies en duistere figuren. Lukt het hen de waarheid aan het licht te brengen?
Niet alleen een spannend verhaal met een bijzonder goed uitgewerkt plot, waarbij de personages uit VIP room eindelijk wat meer diepgang krijgen en het hele verhaal dus meer indruk maakt; bovendien geeft Lapidus ook blijk van een grondige kennis van zaken over het hele witwasgebeuren. De beschreven constructies en wettelijke achtergronden kloppen als een bus, wat de geloofwaardigheid van het boek zeer ten goede komt en wat zeker bijdraagt tot de kracht van het verhaal. De geschetste constructies en de plot zorgen er ook voor dat je als lezer je hoofd er moet bijhouden, iets wat ik bijzonder waardeer. Niets zo afstompend als een thriller waarbij de oplossing voorgekauwd op een plateautje wordt aangeboden.
Kortom, het tweede boek heeft wat het eerste boek niet had, en we kunnen alleen maar hopen dat het crescendo gaat, zodat het derde boek een knaller van formaat wordt. Ik blijf fan van Lapidus.

För ungefär ett och ett halvt år sedan så läste jag den första boken, ”VIP-rummet”, i Jens Lapidus nya serie, och jag tyckte den var mycket, mycket bra.
Nu har jag läst den andra boken, ”Sthlm Delete”, som är en fristående fortsättning på den första boken, och den var nästan lika bra.
Jag tycker mycket om huvudpersonerna i boken, Emelie och Teddy, och även alla andra karaktärer. Tycker även om Stockholmsskildringarna. Och handlingen är också bra.
Ser redan fram emot bok nummer tre i serien, eftersom den här boken avslutades med en liten cliffhanger, som böckerna så ofta gör nuförtiden.
Rekommenderas absolut, men läs ”VIP-rummet” först.

Talk about a good read, Jens Lapidus really put everything up to date with this story. I don't want to give it away because it is the best read I have had in years. I was hesitant at first but as you got to know the characters you started rooting for them. The bad guys were the good guys and the good guys were the bad guys sort of a thing. And the ending was so Lapidus, you don't want it to end.

Take a brand new lawyer who didn't even specialize in criminal cases, an ex con who is trying to stay on the straight and narrow but not trying very hard and his nephew who is fresh out of jail and you have a team who evidently can outwit the local crime syndicate and law enforcement. Their goal is to prove the innocence of young man who is a suspect in a murder.
Once you get past this far fetched premise, this actually shapes up to be an entertaining read.

Het verhaal zit goed in elkaar qua plot. Toch vond ik het iets te langdradig om echt spannend te zijn. Ik heb het boek uitgelezen, omdat ik wilde weten hoe het mysterie in elkaar zat. En na mate meer puzzelstukjes op zijn plek vielen werd het ook wel wat interessanter. Toch was dit geen boek waarin ik maar wilde blijven lezen tot ik het uit had. Vanwege het goede plot heb ik het drie sterren gegeven. Anders zou ik niet hoger geëindigd zijn als twee. Het verhaal raakte me niet echt en ik leefde ook niet echt mee met een van de hoofdpersonen.

Although I am a major fan of what has become known as Scandanavian noir this is the first title I have read by Jens Lapidus. My research determined that Lapidus is highly accomplished criminal defense lawyer, who has, over the last decade also developed a reputation as a canny writer of crime fiction. In Stockholm Delete we find Emilie Jansson who has just passed the bar and works for a law firm which is all about maximising hours and kroners with their business clients.
Emilie can't resist the opportunity to muster the defence alongside for an ex-con who is working for her firm as a Mister Fix-it. When a body is discovered in a remote country house after what looks like a botched robbery a severely wounded man is discovered nearby and is charged with murder. Emilie goes out on a limb in accepting his defence and from there things get very complicated.
Her sometime partner Teddy is at the sharp end of this activity and things seesaw in her quest to get a result that she can deliver as a successful outcome. She doesn't find favour with her law firm bosses although she sticks with the defence of the crime accusations in spite of putting her career at risk.
Jens Lapidus proves a deft hand at creating a believable and pulsating plot. We'll hear more about this writer on the strength of Stockholm Delete.

Von Jens Lapidus kannte ich bisher nur die Stockholm Noir-Trilogie, die auch schon erfolgreich verfilmt wurde. So war ich sehr gespannt auf diesen Auftakt zu einer neuen Reihe.
Hauptperson ist diesmal die junge Anwältin Emelie Jansson, die gerade erst ihre Prüfung erfolgreich absolviert hat und bereits eine der großen Hoffnungsträgerinnen der renommiertesten Wirtschaftsanwaltskanzlei Schwedens ist.
Dann ist da noch Teddy, ein inzwischen rehabilitierter Kleinkrimineller, der in seiner Vergangenheit einen schweren Fehler gemacht hat. Er hat im Auftrag Unbekannter einen Mann gekidnappt und dieser hat sich schließlich das Leben genommen aufgrund der schlimmen Erlebnisse in der Gefangenschaft. Teddy fühlt sich deshalb der Familie gegenüber schuldig.
So ist es für ihn selbstverständlich, dass er dem Sohn des Mannes helfen will, als dieser unter Mordverdacht festgenommen wird. Benjamin wurde unweit eines Tatorts in seinem verunfallten Auto gefunden, die Indizien sind erdrückend und er kann sich an nichts erinnern.
Er fordert Emelie als seine Strafverteidigerin an, was deren Chef allerdings nicht erlaubt. Sie entschließt sich, den Fall trotzdem anzunehmen und es zu verheimlichen. Unter sehr erschwerten Bedingungen stürzt sich die junge Anwältin also in ihren ersten eigenen Fall und ermittelt mit Teddy zusammen auf eine Faust. Sie stoßen auf ein Netz aus Korruption und legen sich mit dem organisierten Verbrechen an. Es wird gefährlich für alle Beteiligten …
Jens Lapidus ist ja selbst ein sehr angesehener Strafverteidiger und plaudert somit aus dem Nähkästchen. Solche Bücher liebe ich immer sehr, denn man spürt einfach, dass er weiß, worüber er schreibt.
Dazu hat er sich noch einige wirklich liebenswerte sympathische Charaktere ausgedacht, die ich gleich ins Leserherz geschlossen habe. Die toughe Emelie, ihre Anwaltskollegin Josephine, Teddy und dessen Neffe Nikola und viele mehr machen die Story zu einem Erlebnis, bei dem man gern mit den Beteiligten mitfiebert.
Die Geschichte ist spannend aufgebaut, zunächst kann man einige Passagen, die ein Informantengespräch dokumentieren, nicht richtig einordnen, aber so nach und nach ergibt alles ein stimmiges Bild. Es geht um Geldwäsche und andere dunkle Finanzgeschäfte, um Diebstahl, Bandenkriminalität und vieles mehr. Ein Einblick in die finstersten Ecken Schwedens. Toll und mitreißend beschrieben, so dass man beim Lesen einfach gefesselt ist.
Was mir dann allerdings nicht so gefallen hat, das war das Ende: ein Cliffhanger, der wirklich neugierig auf die Fortsetzung macht. Hoffentlich müssen wir nicht allzu lange darauf warten.
Mir hat dieser Thriller einige Stunden beste Leseunterhaltung beschert, die Story ist komplex und prima durchdacht, ich mag die Protagonisten und bin gespannt, wie es mit ihnen weitergeht!
