Sarah grew up in the middle of nowhere in the countryside of Derbyshire and as a result has an over-active imagination. She has been an avid reader for most of her life, taking inspiration from the stories she read as a child, and the novels she devoured as an adult.
Sarah mainly writes speculative fiction for a Young Adult audience and has had pieces of short fiction published in the Medulla Literary Review, PANK magazine, Apex Magazine and the British Fantasy Society publication Dark Horizons. Her short story ‘Vampires Wear Chanel’ is featured in the Wyvern Publication Fangtales.
She is the author of the popular YA dystopia series 'Blemished' and the gothic novella 'My Daylight Monsters'. She is currently working on a YA Fantasy series titled 'White Hart'.
Kind of angry at the ending because it was kind of predictable and I wanted *** to live on!! I was hoping the entire time after that *** would come back to life and she had to sacrifice the Stone instead but that was not what happened.
The whole series went by super quick for me since I read it consecutively and within a week, so my feelings are probably not thought through but I really liked this series. I thought it was new and different, it helped me relax after exam time and get back into the flow of reading for pleasure.
TLDR; very underrated series that deserves more attention. Recommend to everyone and be willing to let the story grow on you as it grows up itself.
These three books are the best series I've read in a long time. You would not expect Mae, the urchin, to experience such trials and tribulations. Mae has to battle not only herself but others intent on using her craft for evil intent. The poor child suffers almost constantly but also experiences intense love, loyalty and friendship. She must make an ultimate sacrifice to bring prosperity and peace to her land.
I wouldn't mind if there were more stories about her in the future. She is a worthy heroine.
Yes, there definitely should be sequels. Mae is only sixteen - her life isn't over. Is there a coronation?Do the nobles accept her? How goes her pregnancy and eventual delivery of her daughter? How does she like being a mother? Her love life surely isn't over at such a young age. Does she rescue the former queen's body from the underground tunnels and give it a proper burial? So many questions.

The Black Crown. This book made me emotional. I laughed, got angry, and then and still am Crying. White hart’s emotions are felt and this author did a heck of a job ringing me dry of tears. Hope and Joy with loss and pain...laughter and sarcasm. Careful this book gives the Feels ..... loved it
Fine conclusion to the trilogy. For a while I didn't understand her purpose in finding the stone. If it was so securely hidden, I thought she should have just left it and worked on defeating the king. Eventually she revealed her reason for searching out the stone, and I just went with it. I enjoyed the challenges faced on the journey. It was an entertaining read. The opening of the gateway was hokey. Different twists than you typically read.
A great third book in the White Hart series. In the final book we see Mae and the Prince trying to save the kingdom from the tyrannical King who seeks immortality. A story of magic, bravery, courage, adventure, conflict, danger, life threatening situations, comradeship, friendship, love, loss and sacrifice.
Black Crown takes us back to Mae's fight to save the kingdom. She sets off to defeat a king, find a mythical stone and protect those she loves. She incites a war, making allies and enemies along the way.
Author Sarah Dalton rounds out the White Hart series in this third book, showing just how strong each of her characters can be. She writes of incredible sacrifice, fierce loyalty and undying hope. In short, I loved this book and look forward to exploring Dalton's other works.
I wanted the HEA so bad in this book and for that I'm disappointed that Ms Dalton didn't return him at the end, the bittersweet ending made me feel like there should have been a little more to the story. The lead up to the climax did serve a really important purpose so I won't hold it against the author :).
As this was the final instalment of a trilogy it picked up immediately where the previous book left off, launching straight into the action. I liked how the author didn't infuse the series with unnecessary angst, there was enough conflict to keep things interesting and the exposure of everyone's secrets occurred in an organic way that didn't feel forced.
I particularly liked the development of Ellen and Sasha's friendship and the concurrent developments between Ellen and Mae; it felt natural, like two rivals growing up and fit well with their ages and the situations they went through.
All in all, I really enjoyed this YA series. It had magic, danger, adventure, and growth. The storyline was really interesting, but again, some things resolved a little too quickly or easily for me to believe. I didn't love the landscape in this one, but the new characters were interesting, although some were probably unnecessary. Even Mae herself forgot Treowe (sp) was there at one point! I wasn't overly upset at the outcome or the ending, and everything was pretty neatly tied up. I feel like the journey leading to the end should have been shorter than the end itself, but all in all this was a really great YA series.
The issue I mainly had was actually too much action. You find out how long the three books take place. There are no time changes or slow points for character building. It's litterly oh they survived this and walked around the corner to the next issue. You're basically just reading lots of action with names tossed in to fill blanks. I felt no connection to these characters at all.
This review covers the 3 books of the White Hart series. Very well done.
The series was written for a younger audience than me, but the characters are well drawn and the story is excellently told. The battle between good and evil was well told. It shows the growth and maturing of the characters as they learn to accept responsibility and to make hard decisions. Very well done indeed!
Bestie what was that?? I absolutely loved the first two books in this trilogy and I am so disappointed in the way this ended. A widowed single mother at barely 16!?!? Why???? Like I understand the events in the books meant they had to grow up quick but wtf. And Cas' death was ridiculous. That portal wasn't mentioned before, just thrown in there for the purpose of killing him. Honestly, what happened here.

I enjoyed this three book series. It had an original and unpredictable story line. The reading was fast paced and the characters were engaging. I will be looking to read more from this,s author.
This was a good book,an end to the White Hart Series. The area of the world they have to travel to is well written and described. Many more characters are introduced, and any questions one had was neatly tied up by the end of the book.
A small girl with magical power fights for her destiny. Quick read. Good characters. Wars, pain, loss, magic, ghost, monsters and so much more. Couldn't put it down. Worth reading. Good ending.
I love the writing style and the way all of the story lines were wrapped up. I always like a strong female lead that grows in to it. Great trilogy for everyone.
this one was good too. As it often happens in life you can't always get everything you want and that is true for Mae. She does save the kingdom though, which is something she can always hold onto.
Ugh, this book, this SERIES!!!! It was so good and I loved the characters! Especially Mae. She wasn't one of your typical main female characters. She was strong and funny and brave and so flawed, but I really did come to care for her, which is something I can RARELY say about my main characters. But yes, this book was so good! It made cry so much when that happened to Mae and Cas. Ugh!!! I knew it would happen, though, so I can't say it completely caught me off guard but it did sure still hurt like the blazes! That was my biggest complaint about the series. How their time together and their relationship was so short. I'm so sad it's over but relieved, too. This has been one of the best series I've ever read.
I didn't want to DNF on a book, so I forced my way through. The ending was really unsurprising. The characters I had started to come to enjoy in book 1 didn't appeal to me anymore. I felt like there was some more that could be said at the end.
Okay, I did it, I finished this book and the entire series (which I don't usually do often).
I admit I had to take a break like 60 pages before the ending, not because I got bored, but because my heart was so broken that I couldn't bear to go on.
This series is a story of growing up, of learning to sacrifice, of slowly drifting -- not falling -- into love, and sometimes that love doesn't have to be romantic.
I've read many, MANY fantasy books with the cliché orphan heroine slowly becoming a queen. The difference between those many mediocre novels and this great one is that Mae is HEAVILY underappreciated. It isn't until the third book that people even discover that she is destined, so you can enjoy the first two without worrying about everyone swooning over her.
Remember the mischievous, tree-climbing girl that gave, and gave until she had nothing left to give. Remember the pampered prince that would cry at slight insults, and then hardened into a warrior. Remember the bully that sought forgiveness, and made up for her mistakes, and remember the scared red-haired girl that became a trusted mentor.
Trust me when I tell you that you'll be crying tears as you watch them lose the playful happiness of childhood, because if anything, the ending is at the most bittersweet.
all hell breaks loose at the cas and ellen wedding the king was going to kill mae stag in front of cas with mae watching she lets go of her powers the king realizes that she is the craft born not ellen poor ellen paid the price for this mae has to run away from the king cas finds his mother who has been poisoned lyndon and the king are crazy cas leaves with ellen to look for mae they find each other at sasha village cas lets mae know he loves her they are on the run they have to destroy the king before he destroys them they get married they fight and kill lyndon first they find the black diamond (cant say much more on this cant give story away but will say it is sad did not expect this) the king and sultan wants the black diamond for immorality mae gets a big surprise when she finds out shes with child

This is the 3rd & final book in the series... It did NOT disappoint!! We pick up where book 2 left off-still a mess of unspoken truths & half-lies between Cas, Ellen & Mae--but they eventually find their way to the truth, and are able to overcome the lies to work together to eventually defeat the evil king. However, all is not roses & lollipops (trying to avoid spoilers), and the group faces great heartbreak in achieving this goal. The author did a great job at finishing off the story with several plot twists & happy/sad moments. I do wish there would have been a short epilogue to follow up with the characters a few years later---but maybe she didn't include one so she can do a spin off series(hoping!) ;-)
Where to start...? Unlike the other books in this series, the story alternates between Cas and Mae's point of view. I think it made the personal connection between the reader and characters stronger. Some new characters were introduced that gave some added anxiety and anticipation to what may or may not happen. The drama that unfolds within Cas' family is torturous on different levels. As other reviewers have mentioned, you will laugh out loud as well as cry many times throughout this story. Dalton masterfully brings you to the precipice, throws you over, and brings you back... Changed. Book hangover in progress.
A superb conclusion to this series, filled with magic, adventure, danger, love, loss and sacrifice; to mention just a few themes included in this amazing fantasy.
It's not easy to say much without giving spoilers, however, this series has great characters, plot, a fabulous sense of place and very real emotions that pull you along until the end...an end you won't want to come. Great lessons, too.
This series finished very strong for me. I felt all of the characters really grew and I enjoyed the perspectives from Cas and Mae. It was nice to see Mae finally trust others and how her relationships evolved over time. We got to learn about the choices she would have to make as foretold by Avery and they were heartbreaking. A very strong finish and an enjoyable series from Sarah Dalton.
An action-packed and amazing end to this trilogy! So much happens, both good and bad, that I hardly know where to start! I laughed, cried, and loved with these characters! I would recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy; trust me, you will love it!
Fabulous simply put fabulous, this is how I found the ending story in this series. Sarah has done a tremendous job with her writing. I anxiously await to peruse her other ventures as she has proven herself a very prolific writer. Thank You Sarah Dalton.
This was a good series. I found some grammatical errors, however, I feel the overall storyline will benefit those who run from their calling and who hide their talents because of the rhetoric and ignorance of society.
