This is book two in Brooklyns story. Make sure you read Surviving Brooklyn before you read this one.
I'm not going to say much about the storyline in case you've not read book one. Brooklyn returns home after a year to find that everything she believed and knew has changed.
Can she survive and get her life back?
I absolutely loved this story. It's a fast paced read with enough twists and turns that I wouldn't have said no to an oxygen tank. It certainly pulled my emotions apart.
**4.5 Captivating Stilettos** this book picks up several months later from where book one left off. Brooklyn has been forced into hiding and is none too happy about it. She feels so isolated and withdrawn from who she once was. Even one sexy federal marshal cannot keep her from wondering what happened to life as she once knew it. Struggling with finding out about the fate of her friends and the love of her life, Brooklyn knows that she has to face her demons head on and reclaim her life.
York definitely kept me on my toes with this one! Her words are like a drug that this reading addict cannot get enough of. Leaving me in a state of constant suspense, I had no idea where she was going to take this story and I could not turn the pages fast enough. Just when I thought that I had it figured out, she shifts gears and I am intrigued all over again. Another extraordinary read, Brooklyn’s Survival will keep you in suspense and have you falling in love with this story and its characters all over again.
Elizabeth has done it again. She has brought all of us a book that is filled with suspense and emotion that just radiates off the book. In the sequel to Surviving Brooklyn, Elizabeth reminds us that she has her suspenseful timing down to a fine art. So let's get to the review, right??
Brooklyn's Survival opens with the last chapter as the prologue. Smart thinking!! I didn't have to reread the last couple chapters of the first book for a reminder. And of course we are automatically thrown back into the scene where RJ has open fired at Brooklyn, Mark, and Taylor. Who honestly would think to have a gun fight at a funeral, we are talking I can see bullets flying in my mind while I'm reading this. Takes me back to the Mob and Mafia days (and yes I do have a fascination with the Mob/Mafia era).
Having survived this horrifying event Brooklyn is put into witness protection and is now living her life as Angie, a waitress at Applebee's. Right there you can see how drastically Brooklyn's life has changed. No longer an Assistant DA, she is barely scrapping by as a waitress. (Not hating on waitresses, as I've been one and loved it - damn hard work if you are a good waitress) She has no friends, no life, nothing and is filled with guilt and worry. Most of that stemming from not knowing that her friends are alive and well. Reminder in the witness protection program you cut off all contact with anyone and everyone in your previous life.
Upon breaking the WPP rules of no contact, she googled her friends and found them alive and well, yet grieving because she was "dead", Brooklyn decides she is no longer going to run from RJ. If he wants her, he can come and take his best shot (pun intended) at her. Elizabeth masterly begins to have Brooklyn pick up parts of her that she has lost. Her strength, her attitude, and even her fiery temper. When returning to her home she knows that she is opening herself up as a target to RJ. Now I can't go into detail because seriously who wants to read a book if I tell you everything??? I don't think Brooklyn realized that life truly does go on for those left behind and she may not like what is now their lives. She finds out that her place in those lives has changed, for the worst or for the better who truly knows.
Pick up Brooklyn's Survival and watch her evolve from a victim to a survivor. Cheer on Brooklyn as she takes back her life and sense of peace. I have to applaud Elizabeth York because she worked and researched to make sure that Brooklyn's recovery was realistic. And it is! I felt like Brooklyn was an old friend that I was watching kick off the cocoon and fly. I absolutely cannot wait until Book 3 comes out, and darn you Elizabeth for making me wait until next year!
Wow... Elizabeth York weaves a tale of suspense + romance + a little insanity = a great crazy story!!
Brooklyn is thrown into a new life that she hates because they are trying to save her from a crazy killer. A crazy killer that she thinks had killed everyone she loves! She is alone, terrified and utterly destroyed! She has lost her way and is losing herself not being in her real life.
Nearly a year later... she returns to New York, to her loved ones and can not wait to see if they are even alive! Her reunions do NOT go as she fantasized... not even close! While she was frozen in time grieving for them... they of course had found the will to move one, without her... they, thought she died!!
Can you say - CLUSTERF**K???
OMG... at this point... you need to get your big girl panties on and dig your nails into the couch because this ride is going from, "wait what??" to "WTF??!!" in zero to 30 seconds!
The insane twists that her Stalker/Killer throws at Brooklyn is maddening! I felt like I held my breath for so long in so many scenes!! Then Mark... OMG!! I loved him!! then I had the strongest desire to punch him in the JUNK so many times!!! I mean omg!!! Then there are these insanely HOT.. I mean SCORCHING HOT scenes that come at you out of nowhere that leave you just breathless for other reasons!
Then just when things are turning around... just where you are getting to a place where you are just breathing normal... Brooklyn has some crazy things happen to her, both bad and really really good... after you are in your warm fuzzy place... BAM!!!!!!! Elizabeth York blindsides you and rips the rug out from beneath you and you scream - "NOOOOoooOOoooOoooOOOooo!!!!" and literally lose what sanity you have left...
This book is extreme in all senses.... suspense, crazy, scary, HOT, and just OMG good!!! Its definitely going to throw your brain in a blender!!
Life is never what it seems, and the same can be said for Ms. York's books. Nothing about the cover screams thrill, mystery, sexy, or even romantic. It merely says darkness and a farewell.
The book has a darkened outer line as Brooklyn struggles with the hand she has been dealt. She has never been one to fold and walk away. In the beginning we get glimpses of how her life is going and it is rough. My heart ached for her.
When she gets to return to her old life, she realizes nothing is as expected. I literally cried when she and Mark met again and how so much time had passed that she was still drawn to him, but he couldn't feel her pull anymore. I wanted to sit ringside and allow Kate and Maya to just beat each other senseless. I laughed when the phones dropped into the toilet and thought to myself "I should do that," and when she enters the lair and finds her surprise I literally sighed with relief.
BUT just when everything is working out. When her and Mark become a real thing and there is no more back and forth. When Kate and Eddie get serious. When Brooklyn gets her job back and RJ is no longer a threat. Just when you think all is well.... It's not!!!
I gave this book 5 stars because I laughed, I cried, I was caught off guard, I caught my breath, and I fell in love. Those are the five qualities I need to rank a book with all five and this book had that.
I have to say... Reading the first book (Surviving Brooklyn) is a must read before you start this one to fully understand the storyline.
OMFG - I absolutely LOVE this book more than the 1st one!! Totally flipping EPIC!! It's a fast paced with so many twists & turns, really makes it so goddamn good!!!
I literally went through so many emotions while reading this amazing story - that's what I LOVED about it as I could feel everything Brooklyn did with that lousy hand she's been dealt with, trying to figure things out... She's lost & lonely but one hell of a strong woman who's so determined to gain control of her life after she comes back with being away for a year in Witness Protection..
Not giving any more away, but seriously it's worth one clicking just to see how things go between her & Mark! *SWOON*
Yes it does end on a cliffhanger! I so flipping loathe it but with the way this author has written this AMAZING series so far... she's forgiven as I know the next book will be just as good!!
*Note: ARC was kindly provided for an honest review*
Following Brooklyn's life after her death has been an exciting read! She has struggled to make a new life in the Witness Protection Program, letting everyone she ever loved think her dead. She has given up her old life as Assistant District Attorney, given up her love for Mark, all in hopes of a killer being caught. But even the best laid plans fall apart. After a year of being dead, she has decided to take back her life, even if it leads her real death. At least this will be done. She will be remembered for going down fighting. Not as a coward, always hiding, always being afraid of her shadow.. Coming back from the dead has its draw backs. Life tends to go on without you. But Brooklyn will deal, she knows people move on. Even Mark, as strong as their love was, she doesn't expect him to be waiting for her. She is strong, she has survived so much, she can survive a broke heart. But she will take back her life, she will bring this killer to justice, and she will go on. I cannot wait for book three, the suspense just keeps coming from Ms. York!
**Please read book 1, Surviving Brooklyn before reading Brooklyn’s Survival**
This book picks up months after the cliffhanger of book one. The drama and suspense continue as the Cut-Me-Not killer is still out. Brooklyn is trying to live her life after her “death” and is struggling. Mark has moved on (sort of) and when the two come back together the sparks once again fly! This is an amazing thriller of a book and Elizabeth York did such a great job of keeping me on my toes while reading. Another 5 star read for me!
This series is amazing! I am ugly crying, gasping and/or wondering what the h#$” is going to happen next! This book ends in a cliffhanger but no biggie cause I downloaded the next book on my Kindle halfway through this one just in case the electricity or my internet goes out!
Another wild ride Brooklyn Montgomery is sent to Witness Protection and it seems no matter where they send her the killer finds her. She decides to go home and fight for her life and find the killer. Ends on another cliffhanger
I could not put this series down. As soon as I was done, I moved on to the next one. I was dying to know what happened. This is a very well written, fast paced story. It starts off with a bang and just keeps going. This book is part of a series so make sure you read them in order. You are not going to want to miss anything! I couldn't put it down and was begging for it not to end.
Arrrggggg!! I'm not sure if I like this series or not. Don't jump up my butt - I know people really love it but I feel seriously exhausted after reading the first two books. Brooklyn's life is one freaking hot mess and her crazy saga continues in Brooklyn's Survival.
Brooklyn has a very dangerous stalker/murderer after her. He is cruel and relentless in his pursuit of her - killing women who look exactly like her left and right. Hurting the people that Brooklyn loves. He's always present. Taunting her. You're not sure if he wants to get her angry and engaged in his crazy game or if he desperately wants to break her spirit.
I loved this aspect of the story. It's exciting and intense. Suspenseful. It made me want to recommend this book to everyone.
However, this drama is coupled with the ongoing adventure that is Brooklyn and Mark's relationship. Sweet Jesus. These two made me feel angry and frustrated. You know they are souls mates and that they know it, too. Their connection and history ties them together but is almost too much to overcome. Yet they cannot stay away from one another and whenever they are left alone they cannot ignore their passion for each other. I was left screaming at my Kindle - GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY!! They made me feel a bit stabby and after a while that feeling got old.
Elizabeth York's writing style was tough for me. I almost want to describe it as being too fast paced but that wasn't it. I felt her story telling jumped around and she inserted details or people into scenes that were meant to have your jaw dropping but instead it felt like she was trying too hard to shock the reader. Several times while I was reading, I had to stop and go back to reread a scene because I wasn't sure what exactly was happening. I had a lot of WTF moments in both books.
Overall, the plot and the characters (while irritating) in Brooklyn's Survival are interesting and entertaining. I am looking forward to reading the final installment and meeting the evil behind all of the misery as well as the happily ever after for this couple. I would definitely suggest that you check the Brooklyn series out and see what you think of it.
Good freaking lord!! I just finished this book and I. Want. To. Throw. A WHOLE LOT OF SOMETHINGS!!! The first book ended in a hell of a cliffhanger, but I was ok because I knew I had the second book. I thought going into these books that there were only two of them in this "series" and so I immediately start the second one only to find out there are in fact three. I knew I was in for another dang cliffhanger. However, what I did not know was the second book not only made my heart hurt for the characters and all that they had gone through and would continue to go through, but it made me want to sucker punch the two main characters because they were being so damn URGH...I don't even know the right word to call what they were. I love these two so much and I was so mad at them through most of the book, then a FREAKING CRAP STORM happens and the book ends there. Leaving me with a huge pit in my stomach. My heart can not take another book like this for a while. I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. I don't count off because they are one, but goodness gracious I have quite the book hangover and I don't want to read anything now. My heart can't take it. I need the third book like yesterday!! I can guarantee I will have nightmares about these books. Yes these characters have wormed their way into my heart so far, I will have to make up my own ending!! Anyone who wants to read these phenomenal books and want to have their heart ripped to shreds go pick this series up now!!! I highly, highly recommend these books!! A copy was gifted in exchange for an honest review. This book deserves more than 5 AMAZEBALLS stars!!
“Stay away from Mark and his penis,” she screamed at me.”
Cat fights, and not of the feline variety, or only a small sample of the twists and turns this second installment of the Brooklyn series takes. The killer that haunts Brooklyn, and in turn her family and friends, has never left and the stakes continue to get higher and higher. Mark has been her best friends for forever it seems but the danger that is ever-present has affected all the relationships Brooklyn has. This one perhaps the most. Going on the offensive may be the only weapon she has to end this once and for all, but will it end the way she wants it to?
This is the second installment of a three-story arc and the stakes continue to rise as the life-threatening danger strikes closer and closer. Brooklyn is trying to find her way through all this chaos always keeping in mind the well-being of those she loves. The drama is definitely in high gear here as the war she wages with herself, and her tormentor, drags everyone along in her wake. At times almost comical, when the cat fights do indeed break out, the underlying plot is always around death and murder which is no laughing matter. At times the light-heartedness and the somber tone of the story seem to clash as the highs and lows are ping-ponged back and forth.
Highly entertaining, if a bit bewildering at times, this series has definitely captured my attention. Ending in another unbelievably twisty cliff-hanger I really can’t wait to see how everything unfolds.
Brooklyn has been in witness protection for a year now. Not knowing if Mark and Kate were alive or what was going on with the serial killer. Sneaking a cell phone she searches for anything about what had happened. Then RJ finds her and she has had enough she wants to go home. Convincing the marshals she returns to find everything has changed. mark has moved on with his life, Kate believed that Brooklyn was dead. Now Brooklyn needs to make some sense of her life. Stop the killing and take back control.
All I can say is wow. I loved it, then I hated it and then I loved it some more. I was twisted, torn and just when I thought things were going one way they twisted back some more. All that thrown in with a roller coaster ride of emotions it was one hell of a ride. To think that there is still one more book in the series. Things are not as they seemed with any of them. Mark I wanted to strangle and at times the same with Brooklyn. Yet at the same time I understood where each of them were coming from. Trying to move on with their lives. Now I just downright need to know who is behind everything. I can't pin it down. The story keeps you turning the pages from the get go and you don't want to stop until the book is done. Elizabeth York says the tone of this book is different then the first one and she was telling the truth on that. She did a fantastic job with it. It fits the where the story-line is going and doesn't throw you off one bit. I received a arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I swear this author is trying to kill me!! I don’t think my heart or my head can take much more. I was literally screaming at my kindle when this book ended. I’m again left with more questions than answers waiting on Book 3 to be released but I just know the wait will be worth it.
There is a different tone to this book as Brooklyn has been in Witness Protection and it’s started to take a toll on her. In order to get her life back she returns to New York to fight for what she wants as someone wisely reminded her:
“Always remember you may not win the first battle or two, but you win the war you fight the hardest.”
What will her loved ones make of her return; will all be as it was? Yeah, you know things aren’t going to be plain sailing especially with a killer still on the loose. On another note, am I the only one who starts salivating whenever Mark appears?! No?! Phew! He only gets better in this book. Alpha rating is set at DEFCON1. You’ve been warned.
Please one-click this book today as I don’t want to spoil your journey, but suffice it to say that I went through a whole gamut of emotions reading this book and it’s one that’s going to stay with me for some time (or at least until Book 3 is release ;) lol!).
There was one quote that summed the book up for and it’s this from Brooklyn:
“Life doesn’t always have good milestones, but that shouldn’t stop each of my adventures from having their own page.”
Note: Copy of book received from author in exchange for an honest review.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. I was first taken back by the way book one is fast paced and everything seemed like it was go-go-go and non stop. Don’t get me wrong I FLOVED IT, but I expected it to be the same in this one. I couldn’t be happier to be proven wrong. In book 2 we enter back into Brooklyn’s life as she is finally able to breathe, but she still has that undying need to look over her shoulder from all she has been through. Is it paranoia or gut instinct?
I absolutely adore this series and am grateful that the author kept the same mysterious dark and twisty vibe, but there was more emotion in this book. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to fight for Brooklyn. I wanted to put to my finger on the trigger with each shot fired. I wanted to stand beside her and tell her it would be okay, but would it ever be okay?
Can you tell I got sucked inside the book yet?
For me, this book is five stars. It cut me to the core with the love and loss. The renewed faith when she stands back up. The thrill of never knowing what would happen, yet knowing where it was headed. I have to say I jumped more than once because something happened that caught me off guard.
I am eagerly awaiting book three because while I think I know who the killer is, Ms. York has a way of proving our predictions wrong in everything she writes. This series is in our top ten for 2015. I consider this a must read.
This review if for both Surviving Brooklyn and Brooklyn's Survival. I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
I am very impressed with the effort and writing style to produce a truly suspenseful romance story. Our main character is a strong, independent woman who is both smart and savvy in the nuances of the crime world. Having an ex-Russian mobster for her father proved to be very useful and life-saving.
Her crush on her life-long friend Mark is the running undercurrent in both these books. This is a bond she made with him that cannot be broken. After so much loss of loved ones in both Mark's and her life, treading carefully before jumping into a relationship is warranted.
These books have both a 5-star potential. I must explain why only a 4 star. I reacted to the suddenly erotica-styled scenes in the middle of a suspense plot that had a rhythm of its own. Maybe it was the shock factor... and if you follow my reviews you know I love all genres of romance including Erotica. In this case, though, it changed the mood of the plot for me. I think that if I had had some indication to anticipate this turn of events I would have reacted differently. It was too much of a shock to suddenly be reading these scenes and I felt a betrayal to the love Brooklyn had professed for Mark.
Nonetheless, this is a great story! Just my honest opinion. I leave this up to the reader to experience this story. Would love to hear what your opinion is!
Oh man…..book 2 of 3 in this series is probably gonna be my favorite. So much happens and it’s so sad and exciting and you wonder where in the world is this story going. Then right when you think it’s all done….the end!!! OMG!!!!
We pretty much dive right back in where we left off in book one. They buried Brooklyn’s father and at the shootout at the funeral key people ended up at the hospital. Unconscious. The beginning of this book is a bit shocking to see what happened during the time Brooklyn’s friends were in the hospital. I will say that she doesn’t know if they are alive, she’s isolated and miserable. She finally decides she can’t take it anymore and goes back home. She needs to face things and check on the people she loves. Will this decision get her killed? The cut-me-not killer is still out there and going home means right back in his sights.
The twist and turns and the things that happen in this story are amazing!! Love this series!!!! Elizabeth York is a master story teller!! I’m dying for the next book! This ending to book two isn’t one that will make you mad (it doesn’t just drop off) but you will still be like WTH??? I need the next book!!! LOL
This is the next book in the Brooklyn series. It was sexy, suspenseful, edgy, passionate and had tons of twists and turns. The author really amped up the action in this book, taking readers on a ride full of unbridled passion and unforgettable moments. This book was fast paced and before I knew it, I had read the entire book. This book is not a standalone and does end on a cliffhanger.
This is more of Brooklyn's story. Picking up where book one left off, we enter the life of Brooklyn again. The stakes are even higher this time. Someone wants the people around her dead. Someone is hunting her. Who is RJ? And when Brooklyn blasts back into Mark's life, it gets even more complicated. This is the second book in a three book series so reader be warned.
Brooklyn and Mark... these two are hate to love you characters. They will frustrate you. They will make you want to scream and get all hot and bothered all at the same time. These two will push you to your limits but one thing is for certain... the chemistry between these two is crazy hot. And that ending came completely out of nowhere and left me wondering what is next for these two.
Oh man…..book 2 of 3 in this series is probably gonna be my favorite. So much happens and it’s so sad and exciting and you wonder where in the world is this story going. Then right when you think it’s all done….the end!!! OMG!!!!

This is book 2 in this series. We continue to learn about Brooklyn's killer and get the gut wrenching drama that occurs in Brooklyn and Mark's relationship. I wanted to have the killer find Maya and kill her off cause she was making things harder for their relationship and seemed like a gold digger and fake. Brooklyn is truly a tough women especially while in the witness protection program and while finding a surprise in the tunnel.
This author truly keeps you in suspense and loves throwing twists at you. It reminds me of those forget me nots that end up when you least expect them. I first read Surviving Brooklyn than her other series and loved that the two series entwined and you didn't have to read both series (but I did cause this is a go to author you should add to your list). I can't wait to read the final book in this series to see if and what happens to this killer and what more twists are thrown at us to keep wanting us to almost throw our kindles waiting in suspense and trying to guess if we were able to know where this was headed or oops you were wrong and the story is going this way. This is how suspense novels should be and the author definitely knows how to keep us on our toes with the twist and keeps us coming back for more.
The story has laughs, pain, suspense, twist and turns, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Surviving Brooklyn (Brooklyn #1)
This is more of Brooklyn story. Brooklyn is tired of being on the run. She is going home even if she has to leave the protection of the Marshals. Can she go back and live her life no matter what? Will she be putting her friends in danger again? Did her friends even survive the funeral? Will she have something to back to? If she goes back she has to realize she will have to face RJ. Can she really do that? If she can will she survive? Or will all the going back and opening old wounds be for nothing? Will she have to face RJ again before she is ready? How will she ever get away from all her protectors? Will she ever win the game? What will happen if she can get away? Will she be able to get to him? Or will she lose everything?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a good read. Some parts of this book were confusing and weird.
OH MY GOSH! Elizabeth did it again! Just when I think I know what will happen and what the book will be like it is the complete opposite and I am crying for the characters.
I want to email the author and ask how much more can Brooklyn take, but then I see there is only one more book in the series and I am holding my breath that it ends in a HEA.
This is one indie author that deserves to be on the best-seller list for Wishing on the Water alone, and then you throw in the Brooklyn WTF suspense books and she has the creativity of John Steinbeck, Mark Twain, or Mary Shelley.
This book starts a little depressing as Brooklyn hates her non-life, but don't let it deter you because it is about to change and while she hits a lot of bumps in the road you can feel her will to be stronger, to be better, to come back with a vengeance and she does. I LOVE the fact that we got a more in-depth view of Brooklyn and her emotional struggles with the events she has to conquer. I was a little pissed at the ending after all that she went through to end like that, but then if it ended all happy I wouldn't need the next book, NOW!!!
Elizabeth York you are an evil evil woman!!! That ending OMG!!! When can we expect book 3?? I need more Brooklyn and Mark
Brooklyn is now under the protection of a Marshall with a new name, new place to live all because a crazy killer is after her. She thinks this person has killed everyone she loves. She has lost herself and is living with the killers shadow within her mind. Shes let fear rule her and if you have read the first book you know that Brooklyn is not the type to let fear overrule her in any way. She was always strong and looked fear in the eye adn walked head first into danger.
Now 1 year later shes returned back to New York and her old life. But nothign is what she thought it would be. while she was stuck grieving her friends who were still alive they moved on with their lives.
There are so many twists and turns that you are literally grabbing your chair or whatever you are sitting in saying WTF.. are you serious.. did that really just happen... I was thrown so many ways its not even funny but I loved every minute of it.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review, and honestly I was a bit taken back by how the book felt and read differently from the first. I saw the authors note about it but didn't go back and read the note till chapter 3. Then I realized she was right. There was no way with the fast pace and the way RJ had been speeding up in book one that Brooklyn would have survived the same in book two. She would have had a nervous breakdown.
I commend the author for changing the book to fit the character. Many just want to tell a story, but Elizabeth York wants to make the characters believable so you want to see where they go and that the story is plausible.
I love this book and all the extra emotion that came with it. In book one it was the thrill, and now we have the emotion. I can't wait to see what book 3 holds. I find this book AMAZING in every way and am telling you it is a must read.
OMG. I absolutely love what I do. Being a blogger and reviewer I get the opportunity to do what I love, and that's to read. I was given this book as ARC for my honest opinion.
Brooklyn's Survival is part two in this amazing series by Elizabeth York. This story captures you from beginning to the end. Brooklyn is a strong and amazing character and Mark is the sexy as hell dominant Alpha male.
I'm not going to get into detail about what happens. I seriously suggest that you one click to find out what goes on between Brooklyn and Mark. Totally worth the money for this series.
This series is not a stand alone and you will be left hanging, but it's so worth it to see what's coming next.
Elizabeth is an amazing, awesome, talented author that captures her audience with everything she writes.
