Alyson Prescott moves to Cutters Cove, Oregon, after being placed, along with her mother, in the witness protection program. In her previous life, Alyson was an A-list heiress with the excitement of a trend setting lifestyle and the security of old money. After witnessing a murder executed by two members of a powerful gang family, she is forced to leave her old life behind and become a middle class girl, living in a middle class town. Alyson struggles with the duplicity in her life as she strives to reconcile her new life with the old.
In book two of the series, two Seacliff High students turn up missing just days before Halloween. The police believe that they have simply run away, but when strange and unexplained things begin to happen at the annual Haunted Hayride, Alyson begins to suspect there may be more going on than the adults in town would like to believe. After they the props and decorations for the annual event turn up missing, Alyson and the gang decide to look into the case of the missing students. Could the two events be connected? And what about the symbol found splattered in blood in the barn where the annual Halloween party is to take place? Could it be connected to the gypsy curse that most believe to be simply a legend?
Book two in the series will also begin to reveal Alyson's past and the reason for her inclusion in witness protection.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

In book two of the Seacliff High Mystery series, we find Alyson Prescott and her friends helping to prepare for the annual Haunted Hayride. After two teens go missing, Alyson does not know if they ran away or met with foul play. Beside the young adults missing, the props and decorations for the hay ride go missing. Alyson does not know what is going on but she knows that something is not right. Her and her friends want to try to figure out what has happened but it will not be an easy mystery to solve.
Kathi Daley continues to impress me with her character development. She creates characters that you cannot help but like and want to learn more about. They all seem realistic and three dimensional and in the second book you could see how they are growing. In this book, we learn a little bit more about the circumstances that led to Alyson and her mother being placed in the Witness Protection Program. We begin to see how it is taking a toll on both of them and how Alyson wishes for a normal life, one without lies and deception.
The mystery of where the missing teens are and who took them continues throughout the entire book. There were twists and turns and many clues to figure out. I enjoy that in a mystery book. There is also a touch of paranormal in this book and I really enjoyed that aspect. It was an unexpected surprise and added a lot to the story.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing. Whether I was reading about the town or the school or the hayride, I felt like I was right there, involved in all the action. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick, easy read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted mystery cozy. This book is a great read for young and old alike. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. And if you have not read any of Kathi Daley’s books, do yourself a favor and start reading them soon. You will not be disappointed.
I like this series. Written for young adults, it still can be enjoyed by all. Each book the characters grow closer as friends as they solve mysteries except Alysons mysterious background.
Alyson and her mother are re-building their lives after being placed in the Witness Protection Program. Living in an old house with a million dollar view of the Oregon coastline, Alyson's already had a ghostly encounter or two. She's an intelligent and responsible teenager with a great boyfriend, and several new friends she's met at Seacliff High. Like a contemporary Nancy Drew, Alyson and her friends make preparations for a haunted hayride event, but someone keeps sabatoging their hard work, and two friends suddenly go missing. The Curse has a special touch of paranormal mystery, and readers young and old, will enjoy the second story in the Seacliff High Cozy Mystery series.
I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from the author. This review is my personal opinion and not influenced by anyone else.
The Curse ( Seacliff High Mystery Book 2 ) By: Kathi Daley The Curse is the second book in Seacliff High Mystery Series. I really enjoyed The curse even though it is geared toward the younger generation. They seem to be getting better and better with each book . I caught myself holding my breath several times while reading this story. I want to read slow enough to enjoy the story , but at times I was reading faster to see what was going to happen next. Alyson and her mom are still trying to get settled into their home in Cutter’s Cove, Oregon. All of Alyson’s friends love her mom and thinks she is the greatest. I like the way Alyson and her friends watch out for each other . They are trying to get everything ready for the annual Halloween Hayride. Two students from Seacliff High comes up missing. Alyson and her friends feel they need to find out what has happen to them. Did they run away together, kidnapped, or maybe even killed? There are lots of mysterious things going on in The Curse. So grab you a book and find out more about The Curse, I know you will enjoy this cozy mystery. I can’y wait to read book three in the series. Love them Kathi Daley. I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review, which I have given.
In the second book in the series, we find Alyson Prescott as she tries to get used to her new life in a small town making new friends. As Halloween approaches she is caught up in the season helping out with decorations. When two students of Seacliff High goes missing before Halloween, the police believe they are just runaways and d not take much f their disappearance. Alyson finds it suspicious when things start going wrong with the Haunted Hayride and she and some fellow students decide to campout to finish decorating.
But their campout turns strange as deal animal is found hanging and someone gets hurt. Even Alyson finds herself in a dangerous situation the next morning. Can she find a way out as she finds the missing students or are they destined to die?
We learn more about Alyson and that she is still being looking for. Another gripping read by the author as we wait for the next book in the series.
The Curse (Seacliff High Mystery Book 2) is such an appropriate book and series for the young teen crowd. However it is just as exciting and enjoyable for the adult reading age. Take the time to read the first book – The Secret. Alyson Prescott moves to Cutters Cove, Oregon when she and her mother are placed in the witness protection program. In this second book Alyson and her new friends are preparing for a big Halloween event. But two of their friends suddenly disappear. The police think they have run away. Alyson and her friends start their own hunt for clues and their friends. I am not one to reveal much of a plot in a review. The story is filled with ghostly images and spells all so appropriate for a Halloween setting. Great teenage characters and parents make this book a great read for young people. And as usual Kathi Daley leaves us sitting on the end of our recliner chair and looking for the release date of the next book in this series!
This series just keeps getting better and better. I think Alyson Prescott could become the Nancy Drew of this generation. Not only was there yet another mystery for the teens to solve, but there is also the continuing drama of Alyson and her mother being in witness protection.
In this second book of the series, Halloween plays a big part, as the teens are preparing for the annual haunted hayride and costume party. Kathi has a talent for writing Halloween stories in other series, and this one does not disappoint either.
Even though this series is aimed at teens, I found it fascinating for myself as well. Can hardly wait to read what happens to these folks next.
**I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**
In the 2nd installment of the Seacliff High series, Alyson Prescott and her friends investigate the disappearance of two high school students and other strange happenings before Halloween. Alyson witnessed a murder and can't tell her new friends that she and her mom relocated to Cutters Cove as part of the witness protection program. This book is a nice, clean, mystery for teens, young adults, and the young at heart. I am reminded of Nancy Drew mysteries with this series and I enjoyed reading this book. I received this book free from an author giveaway. My opinion is my own and not influenced by anyone.
Love this new series by Kathi Daley. The teenagers in this book spend their free time helping to find 2 friends who disappear in the days leading up to Halloween. All the typical ghosty stuff surrounds the mystery, but the kids won't give up til they find the true answers to the disappearance.
Kindle Unlimited liked it but didn't love it hence 4 stars. Wasn't anything stupid such as typos or anything like that, just didn't love this.

The first book in this series seemed to target a younger audience and I think that when the Author had it first published -that was the audience she was aiming for. However, either I've taken a mental setback to age 14 or the stories are getting better. I like the characters and I like the setting in this series (which is unusual for me since I've never found the West Coast all that interesting). I also am enjoying how the Author is slowly introducing the back story (family is in the Witness Protection program) a little more with each new book. I started this series with a "middle of the road" rating of 3 stars but because I am getting into the story more so with this book than I was with the first book, I've upped my rating. It will be interesting to see if Book 3 holds my interest and it will probably be the deciding factor in whether I continue on or if I drop out of the series.
This may have been written more for the late teen group, but I decided to read it. This series is right up in the. 5-star range like her other books. The Curse is a good mystery read that has a group of teens looking for two missing teens. This is well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat, turning the pages to find out what happens. Very good read.
This was another winner. I just love this author she writes wonderful storylines and has great characters in every series. This series the characters are teenagers and in the first series I read they were the same people but older, about 12 years older. That is why I keep reading these books. I highly recommend all of her cozy Mysteries. Diana Romano
Love these books. Good Job Kathi Daley. I am definitely going to get more of these books.
Nudity/Sex - None Cussing - Mild if any at all Gore - Mild if any at all Explicit descriptions - None
They are like Nancy Drew Mysteries with a Haunting twist. However, at least to me, feels like a series that doesn't feel like a kids book. Really enjoyed it.
Alyson and her new friends have volunteered to help decorate for the haunted hayride. Problems start when someone starts stealing all the decorations, and the two high school students disappear. The cops think they've run away, but the gang doesn't believe that. Now Alyson needs to corral her psychic talents to solve all the mysteries.
Alyson Prescott and her friends are drawn into another mystery when two high school students go missing. The police are treating them as run-aways but the gang believes there's more to the disappearance.
The second book in this series, "The Curse" was an excellent read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters better. I was hooked from beginning to end and highly recommend the book.
I'm telling you these books aren't just for young adults. They keep my attention from the first word to the last. The only difference is the age of the characters, the story is an absolutely fantastic cozy.
WOW! I believe that this novel was written to be a YA novel, but this adult enjoyed the whole thing. Author used the perfect blend of spookiness and suspense mixed in with everyday life like homework. I am anxious to get to the third in the series. BRAVO!
I love this series and the people involved. Alyson and the gang are great. I wish I had read this series earlier. Lots of things happen and it centers around Alyson, Chan called her by her real name which shows he knows something. Great story.
The Curse is the second book Kathi Daley’s Seacliff High Mystery series. Although this series was written primarily for teens and young adults, as a Mother and Grandmother, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It brings me back to my early enjoyment of books like Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and Trixie Belden. I recommend this book/series for those of all ages who appreciate a well written mystery. This book quickly pulls the reader in, and the depth of scare/terrifying scenes written into the strong plot, has you anxious to know what will happen next.
Relocated in the Witness Protection Program, Alyson Prescott and her mom are still settling into their new home in Cutter’s Cove, Oregon. We begin to see how participation in this program is taking a toll on both of them and how much Alyson wishes for a normal life, a life without lies and deception. This story is set in the fall shortly before Halloween, Allyson and her friends are preparing for the annual Halloween Hayride. Two of Caleb's friends as well as the decorations and props for the hayride disappear. Alyson and her friends can’t convince the police that the two troubled teens did not simply run away. Where are the missing teens and who took them? Are they runaways? Where they kidnapped, or killed? Multiple twists and turns complete with a plethora of clues to sort out are present throughout the book. Simultaneous to this Alyson has disturbing dreams in which she is trapped in a dark underground passageway while dirt pours down surrounding her which cuts off her air supply. Alyson is a bright, normal teenager, who lives in a beautiful 100 year old home, where things happen, ghosts appear with regularity and Alyson has no difficulty communicating with them. As a bonus, these ghosts are helpful! That light touch of paranormal coupled with ghostly images and spells are all appropriate for the Halloween setting and add to the story. Despite the need to keep her background confidential, Kathi Daley skillfully continues to develop the characters and their friendship. In this book I can see that the secrets of Alyson's past may gradually come to light.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy mystery cozy. It could be read as a stand-alone, but you will enjoy the book more if you have the opportunity to read the first book in the series as well. Honestly, I could envision this book being read by a group of teens or young adults around a campfire or as an evening activity at camp with lights off and the sounds of nature in the background! The book is a quick, easy read. I know you will not be disappointed as there are lots of mysterious things happening in The Curse. I can’t wait to read The Relic, book three in the series.
