Book #1 of the Dirt Track Dogs series. **Can be read as a standalone (NO CLIFFHANGER)** **Warning: this book contains dirty, dirty things. Including but not limited to dirty talk, dirty sex, dirty minds, dirty mouths, and dirty looks. Do not read this book if you are a germaphobe.
In the south, things get real dirty. Especially on Saturdays. Mud on your jeans. Grit in your beer. Your tan washes off in the shower. That’s how you know it’s racing day. Or as the Dirt Track Dogs like to put it, winning day. Because they aren’t racing unless they’re winning.
Drake is the president of Cedar Valley’s best dirt track racing club, and Alpha to a rag-tag wolf pack. His boys have had their troubles, but nothing a little mashing of the throttle and a few laps around the track can’t fix. As long as they’re winning, they can ignore the way their animals hunger for their mates. But the arrival of a curvy new driver throws Drake’s careful control out of balance, and makes his wolf want more than just another win.
Ella Freeman wants two things: to win enough money to buy herself a decent place to live, and to get to know the local racing legend, Drake Folsom. With her inherited stock car and the track knowledge her daddy ingrained in her, she sets out to do just that. What she doesn’t count on is losing her heart to the wolf he hides inside. But the longer she sticks around, the more losing really feels like winning.
P. Jameson is a USA Today Bestselling author who likes to spend her time daydreaming, and then rearranging those dreams into heartstring-pulling stories of trials and triumph. Paranormal is her jam, so you're sure to find said stories full of hot alpha males of the supernatural variety who fall hard for strong, sassy women. She lives next door to the great Rocky Mountains with her husband and kids, who provide her with plenty of writing fodder.

#1) Wow, this is a great new series !! The Dirt Track Dogs race cars. Drake is the Alpha of the small surviving wolf pack, Blister, Surge, and Beast. Ella has known about this racing team because her Dad told her all his stories. Now that he passed, she goes to see them for herself, and try to join the team to earn money to get a trailer, a home. She wins, and Drake realizes she's his one, his mate. Ella is a "shadow," never having shifted, never having been schooled in "pack life." Their desire grows, she's confused, he's never been with a woman, but as in all packs, it was explained to them what happens. He teaches her, they mate, super hot sex, and they each have the acceptance, compassion, and the love they have each craved. His pack survived the fire that wiped out their people, and these guys have been celibate while trying to survive and make their way in the world. Their world just changed with Ella. Now there is hope for them all. Loved this story, the deep characters, the interesting tale, and great sex, which together made this worthwhile. P. Jameson is a wonderful writer, keeps our interest and makes us smile. Highly recommend. ENJOY !!!
Full 5 stars for one sexy, sweet and fulfilling novella. Drake was perfect.. First of all he was celibate then turns out a virgin. But he was so intense and protective. There were some sweet dialogue that showed true devotion for his mate. When I can dive into a read and devour it feeling all warm and good things I know I have found something special. I'll be looking at the author hard.
I fell in absolute love with this hero. all of the men pack members seemed so genuine and sweet. I look forward to future books in this series. short but satisfying shifter read. look forward to checking out more of this series.
Genre: Shifter Romance Part of a Series/Installment: Series Standalone/Cliffhanger: M/F-M/M-M/M/F-etc: Multi-Luv'n/Ménages: Was There Descriptive Sex: Contains Cheating: Amount of Sex in The Book 1-10: Overall Steam Factor/Chemistry: HEA/HFN/etc Ending: Any Triggers/Warnings:
My thoughts: This is what I call a fluff book, it’s a solid read. Keeps you entertained for a hour and then it’s done. Perfect for those nights you can’t concentrate or do not want to get immersed in a longer read.
Overall Rating: 3 Do You Recommend This Book: Yes ReRead: no Would You Read More Books By This Author: Yes
If you're a werewolf lover you're going to be disappointed. Despite numerous mentions of the "wolf" you only see them come out once and it's about a 3 sentence scene. There are a lot of plot holes (like, Mac truck sized plot holes). The writing is good although the author's liberal use of the F-bomb got annoying after a while. There's not a lot of characterization and the backstory is kind of glossed over so you get just a shadow of understanding what happened before the start of the novel. It's almost like the author was constrained by space. Like there was a lot more she could have written, but she had to keep it under X amount of words. There is a lot of sex. A lot. So if you're looking for a well-written, sex filled novel that seems like the author could have done a much better job with more space, this is the story for you. It was an easy read, and I finished it in about two hours and don't really feel like my time was wasted. But I'm not going to continue the series unless I have two hours to kill and no other shorter stories I want to read.
Too short for me. This is the first of this series so we do need some more background of this world taking up some space, though it isn't too complicated to overtake the story. The premise here is an interesting one, and the characters are really relatable. I like it and will keep reading.
Shifters in paranormals usually are portrayed as very sensual and it really is refreshing to see this pack as different. I find it odd that in order to portray how hot a H is he has to be round the block to prove his prowess and hotness in a lot of romance, honestly it doesn't need to be the same to drive the point home, except it probably is the easiest way I guess.
Both protagonists are v likeable and the chemistry between them is great. Story is pretty straight forward and even in such a short book, all supporting casts are given a good portrayal instead of being a cookie cutter type.
I look forward to reading more of this series, though I hope we do get more in terms of storyline.

Racing the Alpha is the first novella in the PNR series Dirt Track Dogs. Since I recently read the first two books in the author's Firecat series, I thought I'd give this one a try.
This book is very sweet and fluffy with not much angst. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the author avoided making the hero a womanizer, and I liked that the author stayed away from that gender stereotype.
Maybe I'm being too harsh since this is <100 pages long, but I did feel the characters and overall relationship were very simple. They met, they fall in love, she learned she's a werewolf (which she just accepts, WTH?) and they had sex. I would have liked a little more development somewhere. But who knows, maybe this is just a case of its not you, it's me.
Light, sweet, fated mates romance that was a quick and easy read. It's light on angst and the FMC isn't aware of the paranormal world so gets introduced to it by the hero. There's no other woman drama because the hero was celibate to focus on his racing, he actually ends up being a virgin. The hero is part of a group of friends who appear to all have their own books and seem like a great group of caring guys. The FMC has two supportive female friends as well. Looking forward to reading more in this series!
This was a very short, safe and easy read. It should have had a simpler set up. Because instead it did not have enough context and background for me. A fire happened 20 years ago that resulted in this Pack. But there was no information on what happened to whom and how old they were, etc. something like alcoholism was glossed over. So it was just ok for me. But I am going to read the next one in the hope that things will be flushed out a little more.
As a new reader to P. Jameson, Racing the Alpha was a solid start to a new series. The story was interesting and I liked it overall but there were some weird non-transitioned time jumps that there me out of the story. One minute something would be happening and the next something else with no transition. It was awkward. It didn't ruin the story but I couldn't get "in" it either. I'll continue the series because I'm curious to know more about Blister.
I seldom give five full stars to what I would classify as light reading. But damn does P. Jameson manage to pack in the feels, I've read most of her books out of order, mostly because some of the story theme's were not my favorite, I don't much like when the H pushes the h away for he own good, and a lot of P. Jameson's theme's are all about that. However I love her writing so much I'm forced to read them because despite me wanting to bash the H over the head, what he suffers, what he tears himself up over just makes me want to jump in the book an give him a hug along with a smack over the back of the head. And then there are the giggles, there are moments when I'm swallowing back tears and right in the next chapter I'm snort giggling. For that alone this story deserves all the stars I can give it.
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes POV: Drake and Ella ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Ella Freeman - Grieving not a shifter but is Drake - Alpha of the Dirt Track dogs. ---------------------------------- What happens? So Ella turns up at the pack needing a job as she is currently sofa surfing. She knows she can race so she bets her race car against beating Drake. Drake loses the match and as per the bet has to allow Ella to join the team. In this he realises she is his mate and then realises she isn't human and is related to a pack member and is in fact a never shifted shifter. Final thoughts Its fine. I don't believe this is the best shifter romance but its a nice read and I like the characters. Would I read again?: Maybe Would I read this author again?: Yes
Ella Freeman bets her car in a race to be allowed to join the Dirt Track Dogs racing team. Thankfully she wins when she races the club president, Drake. Drake is a wolf shifter, although Ella doesn't know this. She also doesn't know that she's Drake's mate. This first book in the series was pretty confusing when the author was setting things up, and it took me awhile to get into the book. And, since the book is quite short, well......
I am such a sucker for bad boys dreaming and working to become men with grit to them. I also admire women who have a dream and are willing to put everything on the line to achieve that dream. When those dreams crash and turn into a mating dance, I am so there. I liked these characters, I liked their interaction and while not a fan, I might get to like racecar driving - maybe with time. The sweetly steamy romance on the other hand has my attention.
Enemies to lovers, shifter romance. Ella wants in on joining the famous Dirt Track Dogs racing team. Drake will do anything to stop a women joining the team, to ensure his racing pack stays together and a secret. Great chemistry and I love that they are both strong characters who work well together. Fave Quote “What are you saying?” Her eyes were glistening with tears, but she grinned. “I’m saying my love for you would win in a race against your love for me.” “No way in hell.”
3.5 stars. This book was an insta-love, insta-lust, insta-mate quick read. I enjoyed it, my only problem was I felt that the H's character was a little lacking. The ending also felt a little rushed, I honestly wasn't expecting to turn the page only to realize the book was over. Oh well, on to the next in the series.
Fun start to a series, though there's a lot of sudden reveals as to what shifters can/can't do in this world, and I never quite believed the facts and information that Drake and Ella just suddenly knew about being werewolves, especially since they both seem to have grown up without any teaching or guidance.
Another series to add to my KU wishlist for the next time I go on a binge there.
*WARNING* intended for mature readers This one is very short, so things between mates move very fast. I think this story is okay, I just wish it was longer. I would have liked to hear more about this fire. Things that were said, were odd for the women to not know about shifters. I will probably read the next one to see if it gives more information.
Ella turns up at Dirt Track Dogs, needing a job as she is currently sofa surfing. In order for her to be allowed to join, she must race the "club president", Drake. Racing is in her blood and she believes strongly that she will win that she goes as far as to bet her race car. After the race, Drake realises she is his mate and that she "smells" different. Ella not knowing about shifters/werewolves.. but feels this connection.
Stuff your kindle day acquisition. It’s an enjoyable zero angst, low anxiety read featuring wolf shifters who race cars. They make a pact to keep themselves accountable to one another and apart from socializing with humans (for the most) following a tragedy. That is until the fated mate of their alpha walks through the door one day wanting to join their racing club.
Awesome love story how to peeps meet and have a race go bet there. Her animal is coming out and also the "Heat"! The past HS them getting g on the racetrack to the fi ish line, but more is coming and there will be no checkered flag. Well written a d good storyline, way different then the repeat way two meet! Hope your well PJ🤗
Very fast read. I like the quick love story between Ella and Drake. Not much in character development and background, but the characters in the pack are lovable. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series and getting to know more about the other pack members.
Although I liked the idea of shifters being part of a race team I found the story a little corny. The characters had great possibilities. They were all emotionally damaged, but I was left wondering about so much. Hopefully my questions will be answered in future books.
This was the first time I’ve ever read anything from this particular author, and I was really impressed. I loved the storyline and all the amazing characters. I can’t wait to read what’s next.
Ella was determined to join the Dirt Track Dogs. Drake and the pack had a vow no women. But what to do when this one was his mate. Great story with some fun characters.
Bare bones of a good story, but his Alphaness was too rough and brutal at times for me. Liked she was sucessful in a male-dominated profession. Found story did not have the charm or connection or light humour I was hoping for. Not sure I am keeping ebook, will read Book 2 to decide.
