In this first book in series of The Luchettis, youngest sibling and only sister, Kim, returns to the Illinois family farm after her father's heart attack. Eight years ago she vowed never to return, believing only distance would allow her to forget the tragedy that broke her heart. Returning means she must face everyone's questions, including those of her first love, Brian Riley, the only one who knows her secret.

The Farmer’s Wife by Lori Handeland is the first book in the contemporary romance Luchetti Brothers series. Each book in this series has a different couple as the main characters most of which are one of the many brothers from the Luchetti family so they could be read in any order. Now even though this is the Luchetti “Brothers” series this first book begins with the baby sibling of the family and the only daughter, Kim.
Kim Luchetti had left her family farm eight years ago and vowed never to return but when her father has a heart attack Kim returns home to her family. When Kim left town she not only had abandoned her family but the first love in her life, Brian Riley. Brian stayed in their small home town so it doesn’t take long for Kim to run into him but when his surprise causes an accident Kim finds herself agreeing to care for Brian during his recovery.
This first book of the Luchetti series had a lot going on in it while it tried to introduce this huge farming family along with a second chance romance. While the couple in question are facing their past the parents in the Luchetti family are also confronting their own relationship after the father’s brush with death. There’s family drama, secrets from the past, and plenty of emotion to make up this story. While I liked this first book well enough I do think it was a bit harder to completely fall in love with it with so much happening but it was certainly a nice start.
Cute new series by Lori Handeland. What I really enjoyed about this book was the dual love stories of the main characters and the Luchetti parents. Sweet romance that is non-erotic. Fun, easy read for lounging around the summer.
For those who have complaints about predictability, sappy dialogue, or setting up a new series....romance may not be the genre for you.
Great quote from the book: "Her life, which had turned out exactly as she’d planned, was not at all as she’d hoped—"
I didn't really care for the novel, there was too many variables and definitely too many characters involved in this novel. My head was spinning. Also Kim's fears were beyond silly and then all of a sudden she thinks everything will be okay and she's going to be a farmer.. yeah OK!
I will not go into to much detail about this book but this book was rather dull. The reason why she ran off was lame to say the least. But for the h to run off cause she gave birth to a still born and left the H for 8 years is just a horrible reason. Maybe I am just more in touch with my feelings and I am not saying that having a still born is not traumatic but she had a loving family and a wonderful boyfriend who was there and willing to help her through everything. But no she just pushed everyone away and ran. She did try to move on with her life by sleeping her way through men in Savannah, GA. And when that didn't work she drank. The hero just stay tight lipped and never talked to any one about what had happened.
Over the book was kinda slow and the end result was it taking me months to finish this one. I really did not like the h at all.

As a long time fan of several paranormal series penned by author Lori Handeland this was a change of style that was interesting and I enjoyed meeting the Luchetti family.
The cast of characters were very relatable, the second chance romances were nicely balanced for both couples and the resolution of past hurts beautiful to behold.
Very nice start to a family oriented series that shows great promise.
This is a sweet little romance. Although, I liked the characters, the animals made me smile. Ba & Precious were always up to something. Plus, their friendship was a very unique one. Overall, I enjoyed this sweet little romance.
I love when I come across a book that sucks me in and has me sneaking in chapters whenever I can during the day. The Farmer’s Wife did just that.
On the surface, The Farmer’s Wife is about Kim Luchetti and boy she left behind eight years ago, Brian Riley. After growing up on a farm in Illinois as the youngest of six - and the only girl - where she didn’t ever feel like she quite fit in, she and Brian experienced a tragedy that neither of them were able cope with very well. Her father’s heart attack has finally lured her back home, and back into Brian’s life. Whereas many times the hurt feelings aren’t expressed fully in this type of story, I loved seeing Brian express his anger at Kim, and seeing Kim fight her instincts to run again. With a perfect balance of humor and heart, it was compelling watching them work their way back to each other.
But this story wasn’t just about Kim and Brian. It was also a beautiful story about family, and contained many of life’s lessons: communication is always important - no matter what stage you are in your relationship, you have to face your past fears before you can move forward, and it’s never too late to repair a broken relationship. The layers of Kim’s complicated family dynamics in this story made for a compelling and heartfelt story on its own. But when you add Brian, the young man she left behind who she loved deeply and loved her the same, this story became heartbreaking as well.
There was actually a lot going on in this book. Other reviewers said there was too much going on and it was hard to keep track of who was who, but I didn’t find that to be the case. I loved seeing all the different personalities of the three brothers who were still at the farm, and the side story with Kim’s parents added so much to the book. Maybe it’s because I’m getting close to the age of Kim’s mother and am able to relate to her feelings of uncertainty about my place in life now that my children are older, but there was so much realism in that plot line, and I absolutely loved it.
Yes, this was a love story at its core, but it was also a story about family, and how family dynamics can change and shift if you let them. So much of this story was sad and heartfelt, but it was balanced out with plenty of humor, which makes it the best kind of book. I will definitely continue to read this series. Just not sure when...but hopefully I’ll get back to it soon because I really liked this book!
You would think with a book titled "The Farmer's wife" that it would be about a "farmer's wife" and if you did, you would be incorrect. This is one of those story that takes place in a small town and the pov jumps from multiple characters to the next. Kim and Brian were once the golden couple in the small town of Gainesville with a sure trip down the aisle, but fate had other plans. All of a sudden, they skipped town to elope over the weekend, but came back empty handed. A week after returning back to town, Kim took off into the night and now eight years later, she is back home. Kim did her best to avoid Brian, but an unfortunate accident causes Brian to break both of his wrists. Guess who caused it? Guess who has to play wifey? If you guessed Kim, then you would be a correct. Forced to be in such close proximity together, old feelings emerge and so does the secret that Kim and Brian carries.
For the most part, I was trying to figure out the big secret that Kim wanted Brian to keep from the entire town, including her family. After about 6 chapters, I figured it out. This secret is dragged all the way to the end and I feel like it dragged the story. I also did not like how Kim's parents took over the majority of the story. It kept going back to them for some reason and I really did not care to read their pov. It dragged the story and it doused me with cold water just by reading about their problems. Every time the story started to move along, the author would put the parents back in. It was so frustrating for me to be taking out of the story like that. Kim kept running from her problems and Brian just let her play with his emotions and I was almost ready to throw in the towel, but luckily the author reeled me back in.
I like the conflict between Kim and her mother. Kim was the baby of a family with all boys. That was the foundation of Kim's running away and the reasoning behind the awkward relationship with her mother. I got some character development from Brian, but I would have really liked a little bit more details. Brian was the only child of older parents and I would have like a bit more to develop his character.
I am giving this story 3 stars because it was an okay story with a major emotional story line. If it wasn’t for the parents pov, I would have gave this book a higher rating. It simply dragged the story and it did not add any essence to the overall story.
I'm keeping this simple. I didn't realize at first this was a Harlequin super-romance. I quit reading Harlequin romance novels long ago. This one was different than most, though. The plot was actually good, and the subplots, intriguing. The characters were interesting, even though the heroine was really oblivious about things. That part fit her personality well, though. I got this book through a promotional thing for 'sweet romance' books. While it's fairly clean, there is still a sex scene, just so you know. I enjoyed the book well enough but I doubt I'll read any follow up tales besides maybe Dean's story if it exists. He's the only other character I really want to know more about at this point. I read through some of the other reviews before reading this book. Some were bothered by the number of characters and subplots. I love reading fantasy and epic fantasy so multiple characters and subplots is something I really enjoy. It wasn't a problem for me but if that's something you hate, skip this book. There's a lot going on between the pages. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves contemporary romance and Harlequin romance, who also enjoys digging deeper into the lives of characters.
8 years ago Kim Luchetti left home and Brian Riley, the boy she loves. Kim returns when her father, John, has a heart attack. This book is a start of a series.
This is a story about letting go of the past and forgiveness. It's about having a second chance at love and taking it. It's about learning to move on and forgiving yourself.
When Brian is injured Kim moves in to help him out and eventually they talk about why she left. I liked that this was not a love / hate relationship. You could tell these two loved each other.
Not only is it about Kim and Brian but it's about Kim's parents. Ellie Luchetti, Kim's mom, is feeling lost because her kids are all grown up and she doesn't know who she is if she's not a mom. John Luchetti, Kim"s dad, reminded me a lot of my father. He doesn't say "I love tou" or talk about feelings.
The only thing I didn't like was the that the author made such a mystery out of the reason Kim left 8 years ago. I kind of figured it out but wonderered if I was right or if there was more to it.
However I did enjoy reading this story and I will definitely check out more stories by Lori Handeland.
Stupid, selfish, sissy girl hasn't been home to see her mom, dad and five brothers in EIGHT YEARS. What a piece. She grew up on a farm, but shows up in spiked heels (and wears board-room worthy outfits) everywhere. Did I mention STUPID?!
She goes to visit her ex true luvvv to give him condolences on the death of his parents AGES ago (that she missed, because she's a piece of work)... which makes NO SENSE, because she left so she'd never have to see him, again. She wouldn't GO THERE. Not if the very thought of him kept her away for EIGHT YEARS.
STUPID!!!!!!!
Then the author told me she was a cheerleader and he was quarterback. Oh, awesome, golden children of Popularsville. JUST the icing on the cake, for me. Didn't see THAT coming, from how craptastic the rest of it was.
Take this obnoxious, horrible heroine and stick her where the sun don't shine. I don't need this. It's badly done. It's predictable, awful, and loaded with SO MANY angry, frustrated, hateful, nasty characters...
I enjoyed this book very much. My favorite quote of the book is, "The wind had smelled of spring in the heart of the autumn. Rain, new grass, roses and ... "Hope" she said. The wind had smelled of hope. She opened her eyes." "The answer came on the wind and this time there was no question. Hope lived in the air." The last paragraph of the last chapter prior to the Epilog was beautiful. I liked this book so much I plan to read the next book in the series, "The Daddy Quest."
There were several stories within this book. There was of course the relationship between Kim and Brian. There was the story between Kim and her Mother, Kim and Her Father, and Kim and her brothers. There was also the story between John (Kim's father) and Eleanor (Kim's Mother.)
I think the moral of the story is that secrets in a relationship are very damaging. Its not enough to show feelings or have feelings for someone. You have to tell them too; because there is to much opportunity for misunderstanding.
I have downloaded this book a very long time ago and as it goes with too many books on a Kindle this one got lost. The Farmer's wife is a tale of young love that experienced loss at a very early age. But it is also about forgiving oneself and being truthful. After eight years Kim returned to her hometown and family to found that many things had changed and many things not. Through many discoveries, she learned that she and her mother was not that different for one. But the love between her and Brain was memorable though they didn't acknowledge it. Funny circumstances brought these lovers back again making this really an interesting read. It also involves the parents and adapting to their years. Menopause at fifty is definitely a joke and I think the author really had a good understanding of the topic. The comical scenes with Precious and Ba were a good antidote to the ever tension building story. Really a wonderful freebie that will keep you glued to the book.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It has everything, love, heartache, comedy, and touches on family life and its problems in a honest and intimate way that I just haven't read in a while. The author has captured everything and missed nothing in the portrayal of young love, love lost, hurt, betrayal, along with the intricate and difficult relationship she shares with her mother and 5 brothers. I really cannot recommend this book enough, I guarantee you will be hooked after the first chapter. The characters are all so well written and detailed that I feel I know and understand them so well. I cannot send my praise and thanks to this author Lori enough, you have written a wonderful book here and I cannot wait to read the next in the series.

THE LUCHETTIS SERIES - BOOK 1 - THE FARMER'S WIFE - A FEEL GOOD FAMILY CENTERED CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE - LORI HANDELAND - BARNES & NOBLE EDITION = 192 PAGES
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS STORY. I COULD REALLY RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS OF THIS STORY, AND WHAT THE HAD TO DEAL WITH. FEAR CAN CAUSE SO MUCH PAIN. SO GLAD THAT THEY ALL FOUND A WAY TO HEAL, AND FIND HAPPINESS IN THE END. THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK THAT I HAVE READ BY THIS AUTHOR. LOOKING FORWARD TO READING WHAT COMES NEXT FOR THESE FAMILIES. I FINISHED READING THIS E-BOOK ON 1/26/2025.
Young love! It can be wonderful or a disaster. Kim and Brian were in love but events in their lives tore them apart. Could they forget each other - no. Did they move on - no. Could they heal the past and find the truth - maybe. This is the storyline. Some farmers are born into the life and find solace in growing things, milking cows or gathering eggs. Others are born to be free at a college, in a large city or even across the ocean. Brian loved her forever but Kim ran when a problem came near. There is heartbreak along with healing in this book. The author did a good job of sorting it all out.
A beautiful love story one for all ages, I loved all the ways that the author explained how Farmers lived,,the love shared and the difference of each child.Truly a great story of love from start to finish ,how the Mom and Dad didn't realize things about menopause and getting help how bodies change, health issues, and most of all true young love with death , and every lasting love for many years , loved the ending, it is a must read comical , laughs, tears, and happiness . I highly recommend this book as a good read.
Kim Luchetti is the only girl in a family with 5 boys and she's also the baby of the family. None of the brothers like her and they all call her the princess. Kim is favored by her dad, but doesn't get along with her mom. The family farm is in Illinois and the author makes farm life realistic. Kim hates farm life and even though she's madly in love with her high school sweetheart, Brian, she leaves as soon as her senior year is finished. She stays away for 8 years and only comes back because her dad has had a heart attack.
The Luchettis are too old school for their own good. The first installment involves little sister Kim who is thought of as the Princess with five older brothers. She returns back to town when she hears her dad has had a stroke. However, she has secrets and those secrets need to be dealt with if she's to find love with the only man she's ever loved.
The author masterfully deals with the communication challenges of the parents and weaves it into the evolving relationships of the children. Ready to read the next Luchettis story.
Surprisingly, I liked this story. Kim Luchetti could not leave her family farm or the boy next door fast enough. She would never become who her mother was...the farmer's wife. Eight years later she returns because Dad had suffered a heart attack. Everything has changed---the boy next door is now the farmer next door until he falls off the barn roof and breaks both wrists, the family dynamics are different, and Mom is confusing and difficult to everyone --- except Kim.
It is actually a tale of two farmer's wives and how they are the glue to the family and yet their own person.
I met Ms. Lori on Goodreads a few days ago through another readers review of one of her books and a comment back and forth. I decided to download one of her books. I am so glad that I did. I loved her writing. She made me laugh, cry and sad when the story came to a end. I will be continuing this series and more books that she has authored in my reading. She is a delight to talk to and a fantastic author to draw you into the story,as if you were there. I am hooked with reading her books.
The Farmer's Wife (Luchettis #1) - PG13 Violence: none Language: <45, including deity Sex: the h and H were a couple long ago, so premarital intimacy is referenced, but no great detail. There was a spate of body parts as arousal barometer info, but not much.
I really liked this book and I'm intrigued by other books in the series. I enjoyed the "plot B" storyline/love story, as well. I'm definitely going to continue the series.
There was a secret being hinted at that you thought you knew, but wondered if it was really worse than you thought because of the way the characters acted. When I found out near the end it wasn't as bad as I was thinking. It is hard to believe that Brian was as forgiving and loving as he seemed in the story. Most guys have a lot of angst and distrust when they are out through what he was. It was basically a good book.
I actually really enjoyed the book . It was funny, written well and captivating. That was until the last two chapters and the epilogue. That's when the book became too cheesy (I'm talking nausea ). Usually I enjoy and appreciate it when there's an epilogue. It gives a nice closer to the book. This time it was the thing that made this book 3 stars and not 4. They saved themselves for their wedding night. ...give me a break. Not going to read the next book.

All older brothers and a mother with a very narrow view of what a woman’s role on a ranch is. She escapes and become a paralegal in Savannah (?). However, she is called home due to Dad’s health. She goes to former boyfriend’s farm to apologize to him for running away and he falls off roof and breaks both wrists. Her fault, so in her mind she must stay and do his farm chores til he is healthy enough. This is the story of post kids marriage and what the farmer’s wife can to and be if not a mother raising children and keeping a home. This is the story of a woman on a farm having a life that isn’t ALL about kids and housework. It is a very good story. Very sweet.
An interesting love story and my favorite phrase in the book was "what if you never take a chance! and never find out what could be" is such a gem of wisdom one can apply in any challenge in life. Loved the family logistics, and Ba and Precious gave me reason to smile. I did feel that the chapters between Kim and Brian was slightly too dragged out for my liking, but I finished the book and enjoyed finding out about the Luchetti family.
I liked that this book centred around the whole family dynamics not just the 2 main characters Kim and Brian who were teenage sweethearts that had a secret that caused their lives to change and Kim move away .it was funny at times and loved the way the family weren't perfect or super cheesy ,it was quite predictable but not a bad thing and wasn't slow or dull so a very easy read and I always love a epilogue
I thought it was a really good book. I loved how it would talk about the family and what they went through and we’re currently going through as well. By describing details of different things about many people and kind of bouncing around between characters, I felt like I was almost watching a movie. Two love stories within having different issues but definitely real life stuff. Overall I enjoyed reading it! Looking to maybe purchasing more from the series.
Kim is coming back home because her father had a heart attack. It's been eight years since she's been home. She had never planned to come back. Something happened between her and Brian that they had never told anyone. Now how was she going to face him after running away? A good book with lots of clashes between the family. Dynamics between the large family are fun to see.
