Sasha McCandless #7.5

A Mingled Yarn

Rate this book
Sasha and Connelly are entering the home stretch ... Sasha's 39+ weeks pregnant and just a tiny bit cranky. Connelly's just a tiny bit panicked.

The couple's excitement at their impending arrival is mixed with a dash of nerves, a touch of chaos, and a hint of danger. And too many surprises to count.

Note from Melissa: This novella (approximately 16,500 words or 65-70 printed pages) is a baby gift for readers who can't get enough Sasha and Connelly. It's definitely NOT a good starting point for the series--you'll be woefully confused. If you're new to the series, pick up IRREPARABLE HARM (Book 1, available as a free ebook) instead.

The next full-length Sasha McCandless legal thriller, INFORMED CONSENT (Book 8), will be available in October 2015.

Melissa F. Miller is a multi-time USA Today bestselling author of mystery, thriller, suspense, and romance novels. Formerly a complex commercial litigator, Melissa graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in medieval literature and creative writing poetry and earned her JD, cum laude, from the Duquesne University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.

After fifteen years, Melissa traded the practice of law for the art of storytelling, drawing on her legal background and love of research to craft fast-paced, twisty books for readers who believe light drives out darkness, love is brave, and kind is strong. She writes strong, resilient characters who tackle serious (and sometimes dark) issues and themes with heart.

She is a member of Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, and Novelists, Inc. When she’s not writing, you can find her tending her garden, doing yoga, or drinking coffee. Melissa currently lives outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with her family and their rescues—a cat and a beagle. The cat’s in charge.

Just finished this novella after closing the pages of the previous book earlier today and I have to say that this has been the only totally false note in the series so far. My issue has to do with the pregnancy and this fallacy that Sasha would not have had an ultrasound because, of all things, something about it causing miscarriage. As a long time nurse, not only is this patently inaccurate, but it sort of ruined the story. Come on. Used for decades and mostly standard first trimester screening in any clinical obstetric practice, an ultrasound (sonogram) is not going to harm a pregnancy. Generally speaking, most healthy pregnant women have at least two — one in the first trimester and one at around 18-22 weeks. Why Sasha, supposedly an intelligent woman would neglect this or have those misconceptions, did not make sense. Everyone already guessed about her situation.

Anyway, I hope to get over this and move on.

Fun read!

For those that have read Sasha's exploits, this fun novella fills in the gaps a about what happens to she and Leo. This quick, fun read will leave you smiling rather than Sasha's typical M.O. of heart palpitations as she tracks down killers. This series has everything in it for everyone who likes to.read!

A Relaxing Read

Sasha and Connelly are in the final stages of pregnancy when this novella begins. They’re also moving from Sasha’s bachelorette pad to a real house with a yard for their new family.

I very much like this format where Miller writes the significant changes in their personal lives as novella’s without the adrenaline rush of the mystery-thrillers. The novellas are always the lulls between the storms.

This is another novella, between books in the series, to flush out more background info on Leo and Sasha. It's number 7.5, coming between books seven and eight. The first novella dealt with their location wedding, this one deals with late pregnancy and childbirth. Trust Miller to make it exciting and add a few surprises.

I Gathered this was coming next

Sheltering six children from their psychopathic father and finding the experience was fun made it easy to guess where this novella was headed.

An interesting story about the beginning of their family. The suspense that runs through the story was entertaining. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

This novella picks up from where the last Sasha McCandless novel left: Sasha finds out that she's pregnant. Just like in the previous novella centred around Sasha's wedding, "A Mingled Yarn" serves the function of dealing with a major even in the character's life without wasting precious page-time in a regular novel. I find this idea very effective and something that would never have happened before ebooks: these 'shorts' are the perfect vehicle for these mini-stories, which might not be suited to a whole novel.

"A Mingled Yarn" is strictly for fans only - don't read it if you aren't already familiar with the rest of the series. For everybody else, this novella is the bridge between Irrefutable Evidence and the next novel, Informed Consent.

Leo & Sasha McCandless-Connelly Legal Thriller

I read book 4 right before this 7.5 book. So, I missed them getting married. Reading about there move to a house the same day Sasha gave birth made me cringe. Leo's fears are sweet. After the birth, they fall into a nice routine and seem to be wonderful parents. It was endearing and a nice change from a prepper who wants to let loose a deadly flu virus that would have caused a horrible pandemic.

A fun update to Sasha's preceding story!

Just a great way to continue Sasha and Leo's story. I normally don't care for Novellas but, this one was just enjoyable. Looking forward to the next story to come out.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Again, if you have not read the novellas after the books, please do so! I am a fan of Sasha McCandless! Going to read the (final?) book 8, which I am sure is just as thrilling and exciting as the previous books.
