Based on a television series that I never knew about but deeply regret that I never watched Survivors.
It really makes you wonder how we would survive if most of the population was wiped out.
If we lived each day in fear in a world where their are no laws and only the strongest has the chance of living another day.
This audiobook is brilliantly narrated and has left me wanting to listen to the rest of the series.
Deserves more than five stars. Recommended.

1: Dark Rain by Ken Bentley - 3/5 stars
2: Mother’s Courage by Louise Jameson - 5/5 stars
Out of the stories in this set this is the most compelling story of them. The whole set is 4 stories that share a storyline but Mother's Courage is an amazing character piece that deals with the female main characters of this series while introducing a new main too.
3: The Hunted by Ken Bentley - 3/5 stars
4: Savages by Matt Fitton - 3/5 stars

Only ever seen a few minutes of the tv show, but this series works very well on its own.

Dark Rain
This story was a bit odd. It was the introduction of the series but rather uneventful for all the talk of "Biblical floods". One couple got trapped, one met a boat person, then found the trapped couple. It was ok just not that great.

Mother's courage
This was the one I'd been really excited for as it was the story Louise wrote. It was wonderful! The characterisation and the feelings were just so real. It was an interesting idea that it was a segregated story, but rather than simply gender stereotypes it was tackling real issues. The story was involved and seemed so much longer than the first one as the structure seemed really strong. It was dark and twisted, it felt really strong. I think the best line was when Louise's character said something along the lines of we shouldn't be women trusting men but people trusting people. In something that was divided purely on gender it was good to have the reminder that everyone should look at each other as people first rather than just gender. It really tackled the problems for women in the post-apocalyptic world. It will be fascinating to compare this with Mad Max.

The hunted
This was much better than I was expecting. I was thinking that the "men only" episode would just be too gendered and testosterone filled but it was actually fine. There was a very nice queer moment, which I had to admit I felt was missing from the women's episode. The only problem towards the end it got very action orientated and would have worked better as a visual story rather than an audio one.

Savages
Was another good story. I will admit that I don't find cannibalism shocking, I think in survival situations it's not evil to eat the dead when the choice is between that or starving. But it was nice that the most evil person was a woman, it had a good twist.

Overall I think series 2 was even better than series 1. It wasn't about the setting up of communities as much as it was about individual characters coping. I think that focus on the individual made for much more dramatic story telling. Now all the world building has taken place it changes into coping and growing which makes for much more interesting story telling. It was great to see how much character development has taken place in just a few hours. I'm really excited for series 3 now.
