I absolutely love friends to lovers stories, especially when the two people were actually friends for years and not just liked each other as 'friends' first for a few weeks. This trope has been done countless times and with varying results. This book falls somewhere down the middle. It was good, angsty in the way friends that become more often do and had a very satisfying ending. Chase--the heroine--and Logan have been friends since freshman year in high school. It's by senior year, in which this timeline starts, that things really begin to change. A gathering storm of unrequited emotion, or at least the impression of it, causes the tsunami that is Chases's breakdown regarding Logan and his confusing behavior.
What I loved about this was how two people, best friends for years, dealt with the heaviness of feeling 'more'. Mixed messages, conflicting actions, fear of losing the friendship...all these issues played out in this book in a very believable way. I felt every angsty moment, every doubt and every frustration. I also loved how once things were resolved and the confusion cleared, that things took off in a way I could imagine they would.
What didn't work, then? Editing issues aren't noticeable until they are. This book could have been tighter with its editing and scene changes. Within practically the same sentence, there would be a time change. Another thing I noticed was the author using the word 'whilst' instead of while. Teenagers do not speak like that.."whilst I was practicing..". Actually, no one speaks like that. At first I thought it was an error but nope, that's how these group of teens communicated...weird. My other issue was not as tangible. While I did really like this and loved the whole transition and discovery of wanting more, it sometimes felt like it lacked polish. Hard to explain, but what I guess I'm trying to say is that the plot was great, but the execution could have been better. Also, on a side note....
Regardless, this was really good for me despite my issues. I do wish we got an epilogue years down the road, but whatever. This trope is one of my favorites, and even counting on one hand how many friends to lovers blew me away, left me speechless with how much I loved them, even books that don't quite have the same effect still make me happy, so 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4.
This story could have been five stars SO. EASILY. But there are so many things that bugged me, that I just couldn't give it that.
This will be the first review I've ever written that talks about what happens in the plot of a book (mind you, not EVERY plot point, just general things that go on at specific times in the book), so prepare for a legit RANT with major spoilers ahead. Like... read the book and then read this review. For reals. You've been warned.
This was a struggle to read. I was this close - - to DNFing it. But soldiered through just cos I wanted to give it a shot. The plot had potential and the characters were well formed. Writing skilled were pretty good too. But Boy! did I want to slam my Kindle in frustration. It was a bit slow. I found the title misleading cos SHE was clearly NOT one of the guys simply becos she was not accepted as one.
The Heroine - Chase, (which I think is commonly used on males) is a Tomboy with long hair and a killer bod (Thanks to gymnastics to which she work extra large cloths aswell) that she hides in Baggy pants and T-shirts.
She's secretly in love with her best friend who always places a pillow over his ding dong when ever she's in the room. Yet she can't get it, why don't he like her back?
The Hero - Logan, secretly likes her too (*Eye Roll*) and does stupid shit like leaves her hanging for hours and to make up for his retardness, he takes it as a chance to get all touchy feely on her instead of having to the balls to tell her how he feels.
Then when she can't take it no more, she looses it with him and stops speaking to him. Then after years of wearing baggy pants and extra large shirts, carrying herself abit hunched so that her massive Rack would go unnoticed, she offers to help a friend in Cheer Leading and suddenly does a 180 and starts wearing tight tanks and skinny Jeans and is totally comfortable with it. She gets a new mustang or BMW or whatever and she becomes the new IT girl that everyone wants to date. On top of that she turns out being a goody two shoes who helps hook up her Gay/Lesbian Friends. How sweet!
She's annoyed & frustrated with Him, He's Confused & frustrated with Her & I'm Annoyed & Frustrated with both of them! The End!
If Goodreads allowed my Shelves to Highlight or make the font size bigger, She's an Idiot, He's an Idiot would be flashy.
Having said that I wish the very best to Ms Doyle's other works. Maybe I should think if its worth it before I hit the One-click button to a YA novel ever again. Grain of salt as per usual!

The TSTL type who is either swooning, whinging, getting angst-yOVER ANY & EVERY SMALL THING or being judgemental of everyone around.
2. Heroine has NO FRIENDS other than Logan (she's a judgemental creep so not surprised). But then gets upset why everyone (apart from Logan) values her. The few "friends" she does have are Logan's friends (and she's indifferent to them).
3. Heroine is CLINGY!!! She has an unhealthy attachment to Logan (the hero).
She wants him to herself, throws hissy-fits if he pays attention to anyone else. And throws weepy tantrums if she doesn't feel included in conversations (even if she doesn't have anything interesting to offer e.g. she doesn't enjoy or play baseball but gets upset if Logan doesn't include her).
The highlight of her life is if Logan exclusively pays attention to her. LOSER ALERT!
4. Heroine judges EVERY GIRL, and hates anything girly-girl (she has no girl mates - her judgemental attitude prevents it). But ironically she's the swooning, clingy can't-live-without--my-man type. Gain some independence woman!!!
5. Heroine endeavours to convince us that Logan is her ONE TRUE FRIEND - but I don't see friendship but a WEIRD CREEPPY obsession BASED ON LUST. The way she swoons, objectifies and pervvs over the hero while he innocently plays baseball (she goes to see him play) would make old men in strip clubs blush.
6. Heroine is constantly on there verge of sobbing/ getting weepy because Logan (and most people) don't see her as a "girl", but then gets upset when Logan's friends don't treat her as "one of the guys" when they're reluctant to be frank when she's around because she's a girl. It got confusing. This was a meme throughout the book.
---------------------------------
Anyway, literally throughout the book it's:
- swooning, sobbing, angst and getting upset that Logan "treats" her like one of the guys ( actually he doesn't - more like a clingy child who constantly needs consoling and hand-holding).
- Then getting upset that his friends don't see her as one of the guys. Then getting upset that she has no friends.
- Then she's judging everyone as not worthy of being her friend.
- Then judging anyone who has the slightest feminine attributes
- Then getting upset because people judge her for not being (according to her) sufficient feminine attributes.
- Then more swooning and throwing tantrums over Logan.
Finally a high school romance with just a boy and a girl fulling in love (so fed up with reverse harem ). These two characters actually sound like high schoolers for a change aswell. The story is wicked and it is so well written. Felt every emotion from them and enjoyed their friends also. Sex is also in the story and is written really well (not over the top). Please give this book a read well worth it.
This is a story of young love, broken hearts & all the trials & tribulations one might endure during the high school years. I had no idea what I got myself into here, just know I love this authors work so I read it. Holy talk about teenage angst! It's a fabulous read, I highly recommend it.
The sexual tension in this book is enough to make you hot under the collar!
Chase is in love with her best friend. They spend every waking moment together and for chase, that's torture! How can she hide the feelings that are seemingly growing stronger every day from her best friend.
Logan knows something's wrong but he is clueless as to what it could be. Chase seems to be pulling away from him and he doesn't like it. Not one little bit. So when he stuffs up, forgetting her at a party, their friendship is over.
A summer spent a part changes them both. But does it change the explosive chemistry between them or has it fizzled out?
A great read filled with sexual frustration, longing and love!
This story is something anyone can relate to, we all have had relationship drama in high school . All the ups and downs that teenagers go through is in this book.. There is some drinking and S*x so maybe not an appropriate book for preteens but still an engaging story. For a nice read at a a great price of only $0.99 so check it out.
Awesome book. It has great characters and an amazing story line a must read. I wish it would have given us more of Chase Logan's future story. Like their college years and if they got married and had children but it was a great read.
I absolutely could not put this book down. I loved every second of it. I was awed by how Logan and Chase fit so perfectly together. I highly recommend reading this book.
More of a 3.5. I really liked the story but some parts I just wish had more details to it. I was really happy when Logan finally started to get his own chapters. Kinda wish this was a series so we could get more in depth with the other couples
I loved everything about this book the way it kept you hanging onto everything I could not put my phone down while I was reading it. I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone I know 100%.
One Of The Guys is about the friendship between Chase and Logan. They have been best friends since freshman year. Chase has had a crush on Logan since she first met him--but always thought he didn't see her like that. Whereas, Logan has had a crush on her for just as long but thought she only saw him as a friend.
Towards the end of junior year of high school, and before senior year, Chase gets upset with Logan. She is tired of being "forgotten" by her group of friends (which is all guys--because she is a tomboy) and how people view her. She is annoyed by Carl, who is one of Logan's teammates and friends, he always say's she is the "tagalong" and blames her for the guys not getting girls. Spoiler alert: Carl is a grade A douchbag and he's the only reason that he doesn't get a girl. Chase also hates that some of the girls in her school call her a guy (or a fat guy--because of what she wears) when everyone knows she's a girl. What Chase is going through is totally relatable--because this is what tomboys always go through (and not just tomboys either). This book is about owning who you are -- yes you can change people's point of view on you but it only matters what you think.
Other than the regular high school drama--that revolved pretty quickly (because who can hold a grudge for that long) I really liked this book. I loved the friendship between Logan and Chase and how Logan always had her back no matter what. I also liked how they liked each other but didn't think the other person liked them that way. Their friendship--then relationship (which I'm really happy it happened in the end and not right in the beginning) was really adorable. This seems really realistic between people who are best friends who start to fall for each other.
I'm really happy I tried this book because I've never read a book by Dawn Doyle and now I wont hesitate to read another one. The only thing I would fix is a better ending!!! I wanted more!! HOW COULD YOU END IT LIKE THAT?!?! WHY DAWN WHY!!!!
I'm giving this book a solid 4 stars. I think the development of characters was amazing, albeit the plot was a bit generic and predictable, I still couldn't stop reading it ( I might be a sucker for teenage romance) . i definitely enjoyed how relateable this story is, at some point in time we've all been in love with a best friend or someone close. I do think this would've bean even more great if there was a plot twist, like Logan being gay or something like that, some how them not being together would've been different. I also wish we could've gotten Logan's point of view earlier on. it felt as though, his pov was forgotten or decided on last minute and that was kinda annoying. but all in all a Great read.
This book is a sweet YA slow start but it got better and there was a great connection with Logan and Chase but they were both to scared to tell each other there real feelings I loved when chase came out of her she'll and started hanging out with the girls she really came into her own instead of hiding behind Logan I'd like to read more about this couple especially at the end with the prom a night to remember for sure 4 stars!!!!
I liked this book in a very stereotypical way. This book is very stereotypical, but it is still good and there are still part that will surprise you. There are just enough twist with the characters to keep it kind of interesting. Good work Dawn I know it is hard to write books and you should be proud for yourself.
This book is amazing! The idea and story line is really good. The chemistry as best friends but not knowing they like each other is amazing but adding the fact that she is a tomboy is something else. I would 100% recommend this book
It was a good book but I had a small problem with Logan. I think it's just that I don't like a lot of things and I get annoyed easily. Other than that I love it it was a really detailed story and I thought it was funny at times too.
if anyones looking for a great book with amazing writing to pick up this is it i loved the entire book the chracters are amazing and i would love a logan of my own
2.5 ok l like the story line, but the writing style could have been better instead of sounding like they were in junior high not high school. The MC Chase was very immature in my opinion.
