Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

I've totally forgotten how much I enjoy Jill Shalvis' brand of romance, then I read this book and I reminded of the reasons why.

The banter, the snarky humor, the flawed heroine, the swoony hero, the chemistry, the small town setting -- I could go on and on. I enjoyed this book so much. Darcy is far from being a likable heroine. She's prickly, snarky and stubborn and yet...I still loved her character. I rooted for her. I want her to find not only her HEA but herself in the process. AJ is the perfect Shalvis hero. Stoic, poised but passionate. He's the perfect foil for Darcy's prickly personality.

OVerall, a very enjoyable read.

This book was so bad. And I never thought I'd say that about a book Jill Shalvis wrote.

The timeline was screwy, important facts were inconsistent, and the back and forth between the MCs was annoying. Mostly AJ being a dumby, but Darcy could learn to be stronger.

So I'm pretty disappointed in this book. It feels like JS phoned this one in.

'Still the One' is like a game you see at an amusement park: it looks amazing and you can't wait to ride it but once you do you're like "WTH? What did I get myself into? I did not sign for this" but then you'll be "Well, it's not that bad, it's getting better" and later you'll be back to "No, no. I want off this ride NOW!" and at the end you'll be "Well… it wasn't that bad."

As soon as I met Darcy and AJ in Then Came You, I knew I wanted to read their story. But then I started the book and it was not the kind of journey I was expecting.

Darcy and AJ are two of the most stubborn main characters I've read in the romance genre. And their skills to communicate with words are not the best.

These two are attracted to each other but don't act on it. In the beginning, I didn't mind it because we're just starting the story: we need conflict, we need them to clash and for their sparks to turn into a fire. So it was a little frustrating but I got it. Then they finally act on their attraction and I knew everything that happened before had been worth it.

I grinned, laughed, I had the best feelings ever with them. There was still frustration because let's not forget these two are stubborn. But you just know everything will be okay: they will communicate more and soon, tell each other what they feel, right? NO!

We cross the 90% mark of the book and my least favorite cliché in romance genre ever happened. The plane taking off, crashed! All the progress I thought these two had made crumbled down and I loathed it. We're about to finish and that cliché happens?

But I thought "Ok. This will somehow get resolved ASAP." The opportunity presented itself. AJ got to prove his feelings with ACTIONS, not just WORDS. But no, suddenly Darcy decided to be more stubborn than the two put together and it was annoying.

Everything did resolve in the end rather quickly, and luckily there's an epilogue to make up for what happened before (which was nice) but at that point I couldn't enjoy it completely.

So yeah, I'm left with mixed feelings that I hate because I really wanted to love AJ and Darcy's story. Unfortunately, my frustration with their story was bigger than my enjoyment.

OVERALL:

This is not the kind of romance I like reading. The characters were not bad, the writing was amazing (as always in every Jill Shalvis book). But it was the delivery of it all that I did not enjoy much.

Darcy has three rules #1 Don't stress the little stuff #2 Never let a certain man into her heart #3 Don't take crap from anyone. After a near death experience she started making rules and setting her life in order. She got out of the wheelchair, thanks to the man who is the reason for rule #2. AJ Colton, super sexy six feet too inches of muscle and physical therapist. Poor Darcy she has gone without so long she felt as if she had been "re-virignized" at 26, and it didn't help with Mr. Hot and Unavailable always near.
Darcy and AJ are two broken people. She has a dream and it will take many to see it happen. Aj is her brother's best friend and is already on the dark side from the past these two shared. There is a mountain of stuff to sift through before there can be any happiness.
Conflicts, drama, tears, lust, love, friendship and a lot of fun moments circle this group of animal lovers. This author is a proven make you feel better about the human race author.

Still the One is, unfortunately, the most disappointing installment I've read in the Animal Magnetism series. Darcy and AJ, the romantic leads at the forefront of this novel, are fascinating characters in their own right. A travel photographer for National Geographic, Darcy has always been a dare-devil, living life to the max. When she meets with an accident that leaves her unable to walk until after intense physical therapy, the course of her life is forever altered. AJ, her physical therapist and brother's best friend, has been there with her through thick-and-thin. So, of course, when she throws herself at him and he rejects her, Darcy is shattered and determined to move on. But AJ is quickly realizing that when it comes to Darcy, he made a huge mistake, and now, he wants her back. At any cost.

Shalvis has an easy way of forcing her characters into your heart and that is no less apparent in Still the One. I adored this heroine, with her prickly nature and tough exterior, all hiding a heart of mush, and this strong and silent hero, whose hurts were so deeply concealed. Darcy and AJ are a perfect match but their love story, full of the push-and-pull that can grate so easily, lost its appeal. Moreover, there are one-too-many tropes used in this one and, ultimately, though I adore these two as individuals, this is one case where I felt as if their relationship was weaker than their separate personalities.

Clearly a must-read for fans, I'm sure Still the One will still satisfy--after all, it's Jill Shalvis. But, nevertheless, I'd lower my expectations for this one, just ever-so-slightly...

Still the One centers around wild child Darcy Stone, Dr. Wyatt Stone's baby sister, and her romantic interest A.J. Colten. It can be read as a standalone. Middle child Wyatt was featured in Then Came You while responsible big sister Zoe's story appeared in All I Want.

The Stone trio had all been adversely impacted by their unconventional childhoods with their peripatetic parents, who were more focused on their foreign diplomat careers than on their children. All three have abandonment issues. In Darcy's case, it manifested as a magnified level of wanderlust and adventure-seeking until it was cut short by a near fatal car accident. She could have been left in a wheelchair if it hadn't been for AJ's tenacious professional dedication.

AJ is ex-military turned physical therapist. His tough-love commitment to his patients helped them physically recover more than their insurance coverage would have allowed. And in small town Sunshine, Idaho, AJ is also Wyatt's best friend. AJ is looking for a generous donor to underwrite extended treatment for his more challenging patients, like Darcy who is now able to walk on her own. This presents an opportunity for Darcy and AJ to spend time together outside of the therapist-patient dynamic, especially when they're stranded in their Boise hotel by a heavy snowstorm.

Still the One began well but then wilted after the first third, and I considered abandoning it. But my decision to finish it was primarily because of my curiosity about the three Stone siblings as opposed to the featured couple, who both seemed one-dimensional. Even though her character motivation was explained, there was too much vacillation from Darcy (was she serious, was she not), and it just became a bit tiresome. Yes, there was an "obstacle" to their relationship. But it was very much a simple miscommunication between the laconic AJ and Darcy, whose insecurities drove her to keep people at an emotional distance. Finally, I didn't get enough charming animal stories to distract me from the tepid plotline and what felt like story filler. The writing was otherwise fine. I would also point out the inaccurate bookcover since the drama was propelled by a heavy snowstorm and neither protagonist owned a dog.

I can't find the words to describe how mad I am right now. What might've been an easy read was completely ruined by the heroine, the spoiled, selfish, high maintaince self-centered brat, that you must wait on her every single whim lest she'll throw a fit whining how undesirable and unlovable she is.
The last 20% were TORTURE!
I wanna rant my heart out, but it's really not worth it. I don't recommend.

An incredibly sexy sweet moving read. Just like maple syrup on hot cakes. Jill Shalvis has now become one of my instant go to authors.

Darcy Stone is a wonderer. Never having a home base as a child, she explores the world seeking adventure to write about in travel magazines. But a horrible car accident has grounded her during her recovery and rehabilitation in Sunshine, Idaho with her brother, sister and the sexy ex-Navy, Physical Therapist AJ Colten.
“You’ve got this,” she whispered. “You’re going to make like a Nike commercial and just do it.”

Staying in the small charming town does not exactly go with her wild and free nature, but she has started setting roots, pouring all her heart in saving and placing throwaway service dogs with caring people who need then. She also works part time at the animal clinic and part time at the wellness center with AJ. It’s okay that she finds AJ irresistible. She has trust issues and her deepest fear is being reject thanks to her parents, but she’s in no danger of being discarded by AJ again because they keep each other at arm’s length. That is, until he needs her help.

AJ Colten is a successful self-made man, who runs the wellness center in Sunshine. He is completely dedicated to helping his patients and will go the extra mile for and with them even when there are no funds to back them. But there are generous people who are willing to give out grants for this laudable cause. AJ just needs to convince one such individual and he needs prickly, sexy Darcy to do it.
“He’d been with her just about every step of the way since her doctor had approved PT. He’d seen her… writhing in agony… fighting her way through the pain as she worked the weight and stretches he’d given her. He’d seen her stand up out of her wheelchair and take her first steps again.”

AJ was hurt in the past by a woman who wasn’t brave enough to believe in herself, much less the both of them. Will one snowed in weekend together with Darcy change AJ’s mind about risking his heart?
These two working together for brief hours at a time is as frightening as two porcupine making love. They seem to rub each other the wrong way every time they breath the same air.
“She does seem to take some serious delight in screwing with you. What did you do to piss her off?”
“Breathe.”

But what seems like chafing on the outside, is really sizzling hot sparks waiting to happen. And while AJ has always had feelings for Darcy he wasn’t willing to act on them because of self-preservation and because he wouldn’t take advantage while she was vulnerable.

His resolve is tested during their trip to convince a wealthy investor to get a grant to help people who get cut off by their insurance while still needing PT to finish their rehab. Even though AJ seems to see all, he’s still not an expert on Darcy and the forced time together provides the opportunity for them to get to know more about one another. Can they resist their mutual attraction? Can he convince her that she’s perfect for him and loves her as she is? Will Darcy learn to let the people who care about her in and not push them away because she’s afraid of getting hurt?

Darcy has a difficult time believing she’s worthy and not someone who will be easily thrown away, mainly because of the way her parents treated her and her siblings. She’s always kept most everyone on the outside. But the few who she lets in, she loves fiercely. This is something AJ knows, be he also sees her strength and giving heart. As they start trusting each other, their connection blossoms beautifully.
“You’re strong inside… AJ. You need someone who can weather whatever comes along.”
“Like someone who’s fierce and loving with those she lets in, even though she can count those people on one hand?... Like someone who is terrified of storms even though she’s the biggest storm in my life?”

They’re endearing characters that had me laughing, smiling or fanning my girly parts throughout the story. Darcy is prickly but adorable and only at the end did her drama queen antics bothered me a bit.
“The only thing worse that being a drama queen was being a stupid drama queen. Note to self: Think through your next temper tantrum.”

AJ is a complete take charge alpha, who’s also caring, observant and sweet. I loved their constant push and pull and how AJ would not allow Darcy to give up or run away.
“How about you just pretend to enjoy being carried off to my bed. You know, the same way you pretend to enjoy my kisses.”

“You want to try to get another peek at me first, now that the light’s on?”

She narrowed her eyes. “I knew you were awake, you big faker!”
“Whatever, Peeping Tomina.”

I loved this incredibly funny and amusing story with its sexy sweet romance and wonderfully developed characters, both the main ones as well as the secondary ones.

There are so many great moments with the supporting characters, from Zoe and Wyatt (Darcy’s siblings), To Xander and Tyson, to AJ’s dad. I’m hard pressed to choose just one.But I think I especially liked all the adorable dogs Darcy rescued. It made for many very adorable, melty moments.

Still the one is book six in Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series. With interconnecting characters from previous books that can be read as a standalone. Told from both points of view. Cheating? . Happy ending?

It's been awhile since I last read a Jill Shalvis book and in her newest release, Still the One, Ms. Shalvis once again never fails to deliver a book filled with humor, banter, swoony heroes and of course, heartfelt romance.

Still the One was filled with all the elements that would have any romance aficionado falling in love with the story of Darcy and AJ. An alpha hero who comes to the rescue of a flawed heroine. AJ was the perfect balance to compliment the feisty and sassy personality of Darcy. Both Darcy and AJ had sexual and emotional chemistry that was felt throughout the book. The push and pull dynamic between Darcy and AJ was something that had me gravitated to their story. What I love about this book was the brimming sexual tension. It allowed readers to see that there was a deep connection between these two and it was only a matter of time for Darcy to see that AJ will heal all the painful scars of her past.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. How could you not fall in love with a book hero in a small town setting. Also, this is a Jill Shalvis book and she will capture make your hearts flutter with her beautiful writing and story-telling.

There was definitely Animal Magnetism between AJ and Darcy...

I loved this story. Darcy was badly injured in a car accident and AJ is her physical therapist and her brother’s best friend. We’ve met both characters in previous stories but this is where it all comes together. Darcy hasn’t seen much love in her life and AJ has been in love before but it didn’t end well. Both of them hide behind antagonism and indifference instead of facing the real feelings they have for each other.

Darcy has faced a lot of pain in her recovery and the people who love her the most have had to suffer with her. She lost her job as a reporter travelling the world when her injuries left were with a limp and long lasting damage. Her sister Zoe and brother Wyatt help her as much as they can, but Darcy likes to do things for herself. Her best friend Zander has helped her cope by always being there for her but her feelings aren’t as deep as his. AJ has always been there for her especially in her physical recovery. One night she threw herself at him and he rejected her, this to Darcy was another example of why she keeps people from getting too close. AJ and Darcy are thrown together to help raise money and their feelings for each other can no longer be put off. There were some very HOT scenes between AJ and Darcy but they still have issues that need to be worked out.

I really enjoyed the Animal Magnetism series, but I think this one was my favourite. I loved AJ, he was sweet but also tough with Darcy while everyone else hovered and protected her. AJ is a hardworking man who puts the needs of his patients before himself. AJ has to learn to express himself and his feelings but has to learn to put his loved ones ahead of his work sometimes. Darcy was so vulnerable because of the hurt she received in her childhood, but she was lovable too. It was great to see them work through their problems and come out the other side with smiles on their faces.

Jill Shalvis is one of my favourite authors and this was a good example of her at her best. I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Parts of this book I really liked. After all, it is Jill Shalvis. Other parts, however, were just bland and things I felt I had read before in too many other romance novels. Over-used tropes and tired cliches abounded here. Worst of all, I never really got a good 'feel' for Darcy and AJ's romance. It just happened, and then it was over.

'Still the One' is a good workmanlike effort from Shalvis; but honestly she's a better writer than this story shows. I've enjoyed this series; and some of the previous books have been great reads. This one, not so much.

4.5 Stars - Author Jill Shalvis is masterful at taking flawed, damaged characters and making them loveable. Darcy is hard to love, or she tries to be, but AJ sees right through her gruff exterior and loves her anyway. This is their addictive story with a great catch-up on other characters in the series but it is easily read as a standalone.

Darcy Stone is recovering physically from an almost fatal car accident, but her mental status is yet to be determined. She believes she's not ready to love anyone, even if someone is brave enough to love her. Darcy saves her love for the service dogs she rescues and then gives them to whoever needs them most. She scrapes together the funds to buy these throw-away animals from the two jobs she works.

AJ Colten is the physical therapist who has pushed Darcy beyond reason in order to make her well and he's also now her boss at one of her jobs. It infuriates Darcy that she's so attracted to a man who hardly knows she's alive. Oh, he helps her with her physical recovery but her attitude keeps him far away emotionally, or so she thinks. AJ stays away from Darcy because it's the professional thing to do, not because he's not attracted to her. Quite the contrary, he can hardly keep his feelings to himself, but he'll never tell Darcy that because her brother Wyatt would kick him into tomorrow if AJ hurt his sister.

When AJ's patient, who was supposed to go with him to meet potential backers for his facility, cancels, he's pushed into asking Darcy to help him. Darcy feels obligated and intrigued when AJ offers to pay her money that she can use to buy more dogs, but when she finds out that AJ also did a lot of her therapy pro-bono, she's infuriated that she was never told about his gift. To get even with him, Darcy schmoozes the potential investors, a husband and wife team, into thinking that she and AJ are a couple.

Forced to pretend their love for one another, will they be able to convince themselves there is nothing between them when the sparks ignite?

Since the last book I read in this series was RESCUE MY HEART (book 3), I really didn't have any preconceived ideas about most of the characters when starting STILL THE ONE (book 6). I was also able to begin this book without the familiarity pretty easily. I did wonder about Wyatt and Emily quite a bit, but that's because I want to know their story, which was in the previous book, THEN CAME YOU (book 5).

I chose this book for review because I have an affinity for animal stories and I enjoyed RESCUE MY HEART so much that I wanted more. It met my expectations and amped up my craving to read more books in the series.

Darcy is one of the most interesting female characters I've read about in a long time. She's what made the book for me, but I wasn't impressed with her at first. Darcy has been through so much in her lifetime that she puts up barriers and pretends she doesn't care about anyone except her brother and sister. She's a hardass, plain and simple. Darcy has developed relationships so she's not a recluse and one of those relationships, which is thoroughly covered in this book, is with tattoo artist Xander, her best friend, but her hardened exterior seems off-putting at first.

By about chapter eight, I became acquainted with the crazy off-the-wall Darcy and that's when things really got interesting. Darcy is the kind of friend who can either sink or swim a relationship just with her antics. A lot of what she does is to protect her heart but she seems to damage it just as much by trying to protect it. She's one wild girl when she gets something in her mind and AJ is never quite sure what she'll do next. This proves to be very funny more than once. AJ loves Darcy and always has, but he doesn't intend to follow through on his feelings for her. She's off-the-wall wacky a lot, which he finds irresistible as much as she drives him crazy.

This book is worth reading just for the characterization of Darcy, even though so many of the other characters play a very important role in this novel. Xander and his brother are very intriguing so I hope we hear more about them in the future. Fans of the ANIMAL MAGNETISM series will enjoy cameo appearances of other characters from previous books with a lot of time devoted to Emily and Wyatt, especially Wyatt. Since the next book is about Zoe, Darcy's sister, she gets a lot of page time as well, setting up her upcoming story. We get to know these siblings' relationship with each other rather well in this book so I'm anxious to see it further explored in Zoe's book.

I've come to expect humor when reading Jill Shalvis' books and this novel is no exception. There are some laugh-out-loud funny moments in STILL THE ONE, the scene that made me laugh the hardest is the one with Darcy and a parrot. And let's not forget the cat who gets in on the humor. There's nothing super original about the scene itself but it's the magic of the characterization and Darcy's inner dialogue that makes the scene so funny. That's magic when an author can take something predictable and make it unpredictably funny. There is also heart-breaking sadness that is so worth reading. I sobbed like crazy toward the end of the book when emotions are running high and Darcy is faced with something she never expects. A truly beautiful chapter that will touch your heart and cement Darcy, as a character, forever into your memory.

For those who love animals, there are several scenarios with the service dogs Darcy rescues and then places with new owners. Those are great, emotional, loving moments that will tug at your heart.

AJ is the perfect hero for Darcy even though he has some issues to overcome as well. Their journey is sexy, funny and often heartrending, but that's what makes their relationship special.

I had a hard time deciding how to rate this book because I ended up loving it so much. I concluded with 4.5 because I felt Darcy's characterization was a bit off in the beginning, even though I can't put my finger on exactly why. She surprised me when she and AJ took off on their road trip, this made the book for me, so much so that by the last page I felt that overall I really loved this book. I think you need to read it yourself to see if we're in sync with our thoughts.

If you love quirky, damaged characters, laugh-out-loud moments, heart wrenching emotion plus family dynamics and friendships improved by hardship, then STILL THE ONE should be bought to read right away. While you're at it, you might want to pick up a few more books in the ANIMAL MAGNETISM series because you won't be able to read just one. Funny, crazy characters falling in love, what are you waiting for? Jill Shalvis writes keepers that you'll want to re-read.

4.5 stars - My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2015/03...

Still the One is one of those books you’ll open up and find yourself swept away by the story. It has two strong, caring, completely endearing leads and a whole lot of heat, humor, and heart. I’ve read Darcy and AJ’s story twice so far and both times it was nearly impossible for me to put the book down, even when real life demanded my attention. Jill Shalvis’s writing is simply that engaging.

Darcy is among my favorite of Ms. Shalvis’s heroines. She’s got sass to spare and owns her attitude, but don’t let her claims of being a bitch fool you. She’s got one of the biggest hearts there is and if nothing else, you have to love her for her devotion to rescuing S&R dogs and giving them to those in need of emotional support and therapy dogs. Darcy has a lot of love to give, but her parents did a number on her, instilling her with a fear of being discarded that just grabbed my heart and squeezed. Darcy is a strong, easy to love character with a bit of a wild streak and a bruised heart. It takes a heck of a hero to be her match, but of course – since this is Ms. Shalvis we’re talking about – there’s no doubt that AJ is her perfect fit in every way. AJ is a stand-out hero even among the vast number of hot, fun, memorable heroes Ms. Shalvis has written. AJ is a healer, a giver, and a sexy alpha hero. I loved his patience and understanding, his dedication to helping others, and most of all the way he loves Darcy. The two of them have long struck sparks off one another, but their bickering leads to some excellent sexual tension. There’s plenty of delicious heat in Still the One , but it’s the heart in the story that makes it shine.

Still the One is the sixth book in the Animal Magnetism series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Darcy’s siblings and other Animal Magnetism characters we know and love are wonderful supporting characters and Ms. Shalvis truly makes this feel like a group of people you’d absolutely love to be friends with if they were real. The four-legged supporting cast also deserves a mention; it wouldn’t be an Animal Magnetism novel without some memorable animals who will make you melt.

Still the One has electric chemistry, strong characters, adorable animals, snappy dialogue, and a whole lot of heart – what’s not to love? I’m addicted to the Animal Magnetism series and my only complaint is that I now have to wait for the next book, All I Want.

I was lucky enough to get a review copy thanks to the publisher through NetGalley. I'm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis and absolutely love her Animal Magnetism series.

I loved Darcy Stone and all her grumpiness from the first moment we met her. Darcy and A.J. were both such fun characters. They were both insanely attracted to one another but neither was willing to risk getting hurt for the longest time. In fact, A.J. had actually rejected Darcy when she tried to kiss him at one point. However, things change completely in Still the One.

Darcy and A.J. have to work together the help get his clinic grant money to help grow his clinic and allow him to help other patients like Darcy. While on a trip to secure the grant money they finally act upon their mutual attraction and there is really no turning back at that point. The chemistry and love scenes between A.J. and Darcy were so hot. Honestly was surprised their friends didn't really catch on to the attraction sooner. A.J. is a calming influence on Darcy and Darcy helps A.J. to step out and have fun. They really did complete each other for lack of a better term.

Still the One is a wonderful addition to the Animal Magnetism series of books. While it is the sixth book in the series, I feel like it can be read as a stand along story with no problem if you wanted to start with this book in the series. Be forewarned, you will want to go back and read all of the other books in the series after reading Still the One as the series is that addictive.

One of the things I can always count on from Jill Shalvis is a sexy, funny read. So I was somewhat surprised to find myself shedding tears over her latest Sunshine, Idaho story Still the One. The heroine, Darcy, was in a very bad car accident that almost killed her. And it's left her with scars both physical and mental. But it's her not quite ready for primetime knee that got to me. As someone who has wiped out in restaurants, stores, parking lots, I know what it's like to not be able to trust your own body. So seeing a character in a genre that's for the most part full of physically perfect heroes and heroines find herself at the mercy of her unstable leg was jarring. But sweet. More and more I'm seeing characters with less than perfect bodies finding love on the pages of romance novels. In this case, the story of Darcy finding her HEA with physical therapist A.J. gives a glimpse into the special brand of self-doubt that comes with any debilitating injury, as well as how little such injuries matter in the face of true love. I especially appreciated how AJ was so determined to make it possible for folks whose insurance has run out continue on with the physical therapy they so need. And coupled with Darcy's quest to match up rejected assistance dogs with people who can't afford them, the story might have become a little too selfless. But that's where the Shalvis humor, and Darcy's grouchiness, come in. All in all this was a great read, with the added bonus of extra heart. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Darcy Stone has the hots for A.J. Colten, and he has the hots for her too, yet they’re both not willing to act on their feelings. Darcy acted on her feelings and A.J. rejected her, because he didn’t want to be hurt again.

I really liked Darcy and A.J. they have amazing chemistry and the way that Darcy was so easy going and nice to everyone and then would snipe at A.J., that made me smile. It was pretty obvious to everyone around them that they were meant to be together even if they don’t see it themselves.

This is also a story of Darcy finally coming to terms with her accident, and all that came after it. There were a few misunderstandings between the two, and at times I wanted to yell at both of them to just talk to each other instead of assuming things. I also adored that Darcy was so passionate about rescuing dogs and pairing them with wounded soldiers, even if those soldiers were just as cranky as she could be at times. She just persevered, and I loved that.

When these two finally come together, their passion explodes off the page, and I enjoyed every moment of them finally admitting their love for each other. Overall, this another strong showing from Ms. Shalvis and I look forward to more Animal Magnetism books in the future.

What a powerful novel. Shalvis takes readers deep into her characters’ lives for a truly heartwarming (and at times heartbreaking) story. The combination of loss and recovery was sharply poignant, not only allowing readers to connect with the character emotionally, but also allowing them to experience part of it for themselves. She develops her setting in a picturesque manner that is very easy to picture. This may be the 6th novel in Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series, but it can also easily be read as a standalone novel.

The main characters invite you into their story from the moment that you meet them. It amazes me how vulnerable Darcy could be while still being one of the strongest individuals I’ve ever met. Contrasted with AJ’s stoicism you meet a powerfully captivating couple who battle against more than their fair share of problems. Shalvis has populated this novel with a cast of character that you simply can’t walk away from.

Once I started reading this novel I couldn’t put it down. Shalvis mixes romance with real life recovery, and throws in a large side of chemistry to create the ultimate small town romance.

My favorite things about this book:

Darcy - she's a free spirit with a good heart. She's been through a lot but she's strong. I love that she rescues therapy dogs and finds them placement, using her own money to do so.

AJ- he's sweet and patient with Darcy. He also doesn't put up with her crap.

The snarky and witty banter in this book was really good. The banter between AJ and Darcy was really good and really gave them a lot of chemistry.

I really enjoyed this story. This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I have only read one other book in this series but I want to read them all because I love this authors writing style. I couldn't put this book down, I loved it!

Another lovely romantic entry in the Animal Magnetism series. Jill Shalvis is my favorite contemporary author for a reason - I love her humor, which is never too much. I love her characters, which are flawed but completely loveable and her storylines are never overwhelmed with too much angst. In other words, they tend to be perfect. And this one was no different.

Still the One - Blog Tour Banner

I'm a Jill Shalvis fan.  I had been in a bit of a retirement of sorts where Ms. Shalvis is concerned, after reading/inhaling the first 7 Lucky Harbor and the first 4 of the Animal Magnetism books, I took a break.  (I still have to finish up the Lucky Harbor series.)  The Animal Magnetism series draws me in because I'm an animal person and I worked in veterinary offices in college.  My mother also worked in several offices as a child, so the fact that I am not a veterinarian is kind of odd.  Whatever, I digress.

Still the One was on my TBR for a while and honestly, I had not planned to read and review it for the post.  Luckily, I found the time to read book 5, Then Came You and I was able to read Still The One in time to come up with a review.

While I enjoyed Then Came You , I enjoyed Still The One more. I knew that Darcy was a bit of a basket case after meeting her in book 5 and that AJ would have his hands full.  Luckily, being her former physical therapist, he  knows exactly what he is getting into with her.  I mean, they totally drive each other crazy in almost every way possible and it's a lot of fun to read.  Darcy has an immense amount of emotional baggage from her childhood and it directly impacts her self-esteem and her relationships.  She basically feels like she is expendable and that she is not worthy of permanent relationships.  Enter AJ who understands why she is the way she is and knows when to push her buttons and when to back off.

AJ and Darcy are extremely well matched, something that Ms. Shalvis excels at.  I especially liked AJ, again something that Ms. Shalvis excels at, she writes incredible male characters that I always go a little gooey over.

Ms. Shalvis's books always manage to make me laugh sigh and swoon and Then Came You was no exception. :)

Still the one is my thirty sixth Jill's book and I still have the same pleasure reading her work than at the beginnings. In fact it just gets better and better. Even if I absolutely loved her Lucky Harbor series, Animal Magnetism is the one I prefer. What's not to like about sexy heroes and lovable heroines you want to be friend with but most of all with cute animals ?

The author is always coming up with those different characters who no matter if they're sweet, strong, stubborn or wild always have a heart of gold. She mix the romance with humor so we can dream and laugh at the same time.

The only disappointment in this one is why couldn't we have more of AJ's moments with his dad ? His father was such a comic relief with just one hilarious scene so of course I wanted more but we didn't see him again.

The epilogue was soooooooooo sweet. One of her best and definitely one of the best I read.

If you want to treat yourself with a good romance, you can always count on Jill Shalvis to deliver.

Still The One is exactly what I had expected from a Jill Shalvis book. It was heartwarming, fun, engaging, and sexy. What I didn't expect was to sob my heart out at some point in the book. Funny story -- I was reading this book inside the theatre. My parents invited me to watch a film with them, and as much I had liked the movie, I couldn't help but to sneak in a little bit so I can finish reading this book. There was this one scene in the movie that triggered my tears (which was weird since it was a comedy film!), and I decided to read so I could cool off. But as I read the book, especially this particular scene, I began crying. I felt as though everyone could hear me crying inside the theatre. My sister looked at me and said, "Uh.. it's a funny scene. I don't think you're supposed to be crying." And there goes my tale of how Still the One had made me cry.

Anyway, the plot was wonderfully-crafted. It started off a bit slow and boring for me, but it picked up really well soon after. The characters were likeable as well; what I truly loved about this story was how great the sexual tension was between the characters! I wouldn't say it was extremely angsty, but it was enough, along with the fluff as well. What I enjoy the most about any Jill Shalvis books was how developed her characters were -- not just the main characters, but also the side characters. You get to live in this world as though they were your friends, and it was lovely to see them grow as the book or the series progresses. It makes you want to live in the same town as them! They are real, or at least they feel real.

Again, I am not surprised anymore with how impressive Jill Shalvis is. I loved her writing, as always.

As much as it took a bit long for our two MCs to completely be with each other, I had enjoyed every moment of it. There were so many elements in this book that completely impressed me, and I suppose this was a good continuation to reading more of Jill Shalvis' books.

4/5!

Still the One
4 Stars

Darcy Stone and AJ Colton both have valid reasons for not getting romantically involved. Still smarting from AJ’s previous rejection, Darcy begrudgingly agrees to help him secure grant funding for his physical therapy patients. AJ is just a reticent as he and Darcy will have to pretend to be a couple; an idea that he is much too eager to explore for real. Can AJ and Darcy get beyond the past and find a future together?

Darcy and AJ’s romance is sweet and the “fake” relationship trope only intensifies their pre-existing chemistry. Given their backstories, i.e., Darcy’s issues with rejection and AJ’s reluctance to become involved with a footloose and fancy free woman, it is not surprising that communication, or the lack thereof, becomes a central focus. That said, the story mostly manages to avoid the silly misunderstandings that usually characterize this type of relationship.

The secondary plot involving Darcy’s rehabilitation of search & rescue dogs is charming, but unfortunately does not play as integral a part as it could have and remains rather underdeveloped. Secondary characters Zander and Tyson are both intriguing and it will be interesting to see if Shalvis develops them further.

In sum, Still the one is another solid installment in this charming series about small town friends who find love in the most unlikely of places.

A story with two people that can drive other people crazy. What they do to each other they have to figure it out themselves. Darcy wears rock and roll tank tops and drives people away with her brash and harsh personality. The people that stay around are her brother and sister, Xander a friend and A. J. who was her Physical Therapist but now sees her as the strength for all that she has overcome and continued to every day. Both of them have issues from the past and each is running from anything that resembles a relationship. He enjoys driving her crazy with fake bacon, made from turkey. Darcy and his father both agree that it is wrong not made with pork. Most people can get Darcy to do things if you give her a bag of gummy bears, but make sure she is doing the task first before giving her the bag. For Darcy and A.J. everything change when she goes with him for a weekend to Boise and the person they met thinks they are a couple. When they play it off and met his wife the day it becomes too real, and they both freak out. The difference is that when they get back he tells her about his ex and what had happened. Later when he tells her that he loves her she freaks out more. She does not think she is worthy of love. She saves rescue dogs who are being put out of service, but she does not think of herself as worth saving. When she finds out that A.J. walked away from grant money to rescue her again she has to show him that she loves him and is willing to take a risk as well. A very good book and as someone who deals with pain I could relate with Darcy and her daily living. Overall a very good book with good characters. I might be pushing this one a little for the challenge I picked. Neither of them are doctors but he's a physical therapist so that's in the medical field and I decided to go with that.

I love Jill Shalvis' books. She always makes me laugh and even tear up a time or two. I do get slightly behind on her but I am trying to get caught up. The woman has written a ton of books.

I'm almost finished with this series, one more book to go after this one so fingers crossed I do that before the end of the year. See how I said only to cross your fingers not to hold your breath, one you wouldn't make it through.

I really liked this story. There are a few layers to it that you don't see right away. At first you feel that Darcy is one type of person but as the story unfolds you get to know more about her and what she's about. She's not what she appears to be.

You'll also enjoy A.J. He's such a good guy. He does for Darcy what most people wouldn't or couldn't do. He does have his flaws so he's not perfect but I wouldn't throw him out of the house for not picking up his socks.

Together at times these two are like oil and water. They blend for a few seconds then start to separate. Most often or not it's because they can't really talk to each other and be honest about how they feel. They finally do get their act together and when they do they find out just how much they care for each other.

What do you get when a head strong, world traveling woman is trapped in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho after a car accident working with a smoking hot ex-Navy physical therapist? A recipe for snark, sexual tension and a weekend in a snow storm that changes everything for the pair.

Still the One is the sixth book in Jill Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series. This time around we get the story of Darcy and AJ. We meet them in the previous installment, Then Came You.

Darcy is the youngest of the Stone siblings and the one most emotionally messed up by their uncaring parents. When Darcy was young, if she screwed up her parents would send her away to a boarding school leaving her alone while the rest of the family traveled to the parents’ jobs. This left Darcy lonely and feeling unwanted.

As an adult, Darcy follows in her parents’ footsteps and travels the world to write articles for different magazines like National Geographic. Since Darcy grew up being pushed away by her parents and other people she has developed the skill to be the one to push others away before they have the chance to do it her.

But when Darcy has a car accident that nearly kills her, she is forced to stay in Sunshine with her siblings, Zoe and Wyatt. Her world is turned upside down. No more traveling or writing and no more painful days. Darcy works to walk away and that’s where AJ the sexy PT come in.

AJ is best friends with Darcy’s bother and has known Darcy for years. But after her accident AJ’s feelings change for Darcy. He pushes her to work hard to get her out of a wheelchair. The two fight all the time and one night they share a kiss but AJ pushes Darcy away.

The push and pull between Darcy and AJ is funny, heartbreaking, sexy and all the things that a great romance needs. They set each other on fire in more than one way.

“I don’t have to go to the bathroom,” he snapped. “And I sure as hell don’t have a bladder problem.”

“Hey, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s not like I questioned the size of your –“

He shoved out of the truck. “Wait here,” he said. Curtly, and started to walk off. At the last minute he went back for the keys and yanked them out of the ignition.

She laughed. “Nice show of trust.”

“There’s trust, and there’s stupidity,” he said, and strode into the convenience store. He bought a coffee, a Gatorade, and, because he knew is passenger, he also bought a bag of Gummy Bears. He’d bride her to shut up if needed.

When he got back to the truck all he could see was an iPad in the passenger window. “What the –?” He moved closer and stared. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

Darcy was using the iPad as a sign and it read:

Help, I’m being held captive by a diabolical mad man with a weak bladder!

One thing I love about the Animal Magnetism series is that you can jump in at any time. Each book could easily be read as a standalone. Sure the other couples pop in from time to time but you won’t feel lost if you were to pick up Still the One without reading the other books. But I highly recommend the whole series. It’s a fun small town romance series with sassy heroines and sexy heroes. I always walk away from a Jill Shalvis’ book with feel good feelings about love and friendship.
