Meredith's sweetness and vulnerability brings out the protective side of rancher Gage McAllister—even though their worlds are miles apart. But Meredith isn't looking for more, and even if she was, Gage is set to leave Tall Pines behind him…
Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.
She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.
When Victoria James releases a book the clouds part, the heavens sing and rainbows fill the sky. Well, perhaps that's an exaggeration, but it makes me happy as I know I'm going to find a man to love. This time it's Gage Mackenzie; Cowboy, gent, user of the word Darlin' and yes, I'd happily ride off into the sunset with him...
The second book in the Tall Pines series, Rescued by the Rancher is a lovely romantic journey with endearing characters, a captivating storyline and set in a beautiful location. When Meredith Simms arrived at Tall Pines a year previously, she was at a low point in life but with the support of her sister, brother-in-law and Gage, she's become a strong, independent lady, but with a vulnerable side. Gage is a protector; strong, sexy and gentle, he's a complete sweetheart, but he has his own secrets. I expected emotion, I've read enough of Victoria's books to know I'll get it, but I didn't expect it to be as deep-rooted as it was. I hurt for them, but this was balanced by so many uplifting and romantic moments.
Whilst the intimacy is closed door, the emotional elements surrounding Gage and Meredith bring a sexy and passionate feel keeping the romance alive throughout. Victoria James has a gift of creating a couple to adore, with a strong, emotive writing style containing humour and with secondary characters who bring a real family feel and valuable content to the story. I loved seeing how Cole and Mel were getting on, well if I'm truthful I loved getting another little fix of Cole, but I also did a happy dance that's there's the possibility of more visits to Tall Pines. I have to be honest and say it's not my favourite of Victoria's books, but she can still do no wrong; it's a fine addition and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
(The second in the Tall Pines series, Rescued by the Rancher could be read as a standalone if you so wish. That said you don't want to miss out on The Rancher's Second Chance and the brooding delight that is Cole Forrester.)

Gage and Meredith had their own sizzles from the first page. Their interactions were hilarious with fireworks all their own. Victoria James has written Gage and Meredith well. They both have their fair share of emotional baggage, but they equally stand tall and work their way through it. Gage has this whole allure happening and his appeal jumps out at the reader. Meredith’s character is wholesome and at many instances hilarious with her own strengths that shine throughout the story and together both characters have readers rapt in their story. 5Stars *ARC received from the publisher via Netgalley
When I was asked to review the second book in the Tall Pines Ranch series, I had never read a book by Victoria James. Plus I tend to be one of those afflicted by the “must be read in order” syndrome, so I decided that to begin at the beginning with this series was the right approach. The Rancher’s Second Chance is Melanie and Cole’s story where the main characters of the second book, Gage Mackenzie and Meredith Anderson, first meet. Be assured that both books can definitely be read as standalones and it’s not necessary to read them in order of release either, but I’m glad that I did because both were delightful surprises.
My review won’t give away many of the story’s details that might detract readers from discovering their own pleasures as they read each page. And the blurb provides plenty enough info to grab a reader’s attention. Suffice to say that here you’ll find yourself on a beautiful Colorado ranch among charming characters in a captivating and well-written storyline.
It’s a clear cut case of opposites attracting. He’s country – she’s city – he’s had a far less-than-charmed life – and she’s had everything money can buy. But one night of dancin’ and drinkin’ at a cowboy bar called the Horseshoe leads to a “friendly proposition” that might lend just the stroke of luck needed for a perfect blending of two hearts.
Rescued by the Rancher begins about a year after the first book ends. Meredith is living on the Forrester’s ranch where she and her sister Melanie are now business partners. Meredith left behind her lying, cheating, scumbag fiancé, parents that used guilt to control her, and a huge fortune when she set out to start a new life for herself. I love watching a character like Meredith mature and develop from a spoiled rich socialite into a strong and successful woman who has taken charge of her life with a few lingering insecurities. Meredith is also holding onto a heartbreaking secret and one that leaves her feeling certain she’ll never fall in love again. These blips really accentuated the depth and quality of her character. This girl has some sass and spunk – and there won’t be any boots walking all over her either. Cheering her on is an easy choice.
Gage is Cole’s best friend and the Ranch Foreman for Forrester’s Tall Pines Ranch where he’s lived since he was a teenager. He loves Mrs. H’s chocolate cake, Sunday night television, and he hopes to have land and a home of his own in the near future. He’s ruggedly handsome, charming, smoking hot, and he’s got his choice of any woman around – but ever since Meredith literally fell into his arms a year ago, he wants only her but feels he can’t give her what she deserves. Gage is hiding secrets of his own that he’s ashamed for anyone to learn. He, too, carries a promise to never fall in love. Being raised by an unwed mother, who chose drugs and loser men over him, has left some dangling family issues that Gage feels a responsibility towards. He might be a little too good to be true – as he takes his responsibilities to new heights – even when he owes nothing but a swift kick in the derriere to some people.
Readers will find plenty of sizzling chemistry and combustion in the blazing relationship between Gage and Meredith before the door closes on fully explicit scenes. This may lead to disappointment for some, but I found each of those moments framed believably and quite moving in substantiating the intimacy and passion between Gage and Meredith.
The secondary cast, including reappearances by Melanie and Cole, is solid and strong. One particular secondary cast member, the matchmaking housekeeper Mrs. H, is a hoot and a sweetheart all rolled into one. She adds her own special touches with sweet treats, a few scolds here and there with the help of her trusty hand towel and, of course, her protective mama bear hugs that will surely steal your heart.
A cache of treasures can be uncovered in the bursts of humor and romance amid the complicated absurdities of life that takes place. Nobody escapes the hard knocks. There are enough ongoing family difficulties on both sides of the fence, along with matters of the heart, to keep momentum at a high. Parental issues abound – but among them, there is one gloriously notable surprise for someone who deserves it the most. I was brought to tears and admiration zoomed to a high point. Rest assured that the angst by no means unbalances the good times rolling onward.
Although I’m not a huge fan of this sub-genre, there are times when after a long line of darker and grittier reads, a dose of cowboy-sexy in butt-hugging jeans and boots fulfills a much needed change in pace, scenery and content. I also had my heart broken and pieced back together again, and in between found myself laughing out loud while also drying my sniffles, too.
It would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much I loved the well-chosen cover for RESCUED BY THE RANCHER – it provides an apt visual that sparks the good vibes and sizzling chemistry between the two main characters in this story.
From start to finish, this is a quick and fun-filled few hours of reading that was a wonderfully entertaining installment to the Tall Pines Ranch Series!
Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Gage Mackenzie is the ranch foreman at Tall Pines Ranch. He has a troubled past that he has made up for. He has become part of a family with the Forresters and the people at Tall Pines. But now, he wants to prove something to himself and people from his past.
Meredith Anderson is finally trying to be her own person. In the past, she has done what her parents and ex-fiancé expected her to do. Slowly, but surely, she’s trying to reestablish herself. Now, what she wants is to prove to herself that she isn’t broken like she’s been told.
From the moment Meredith fell into the arms of Gage, she knew what it felt like to be safe. She wants one night to be wild and carefree and the man she has her eyes set on is Gage. Of course, Gage thinks that he isn’t good enough because of his background and where he lives. But one night is all Meredith has asked for. Too bad one night just isn’t going to be enough for either of them.
Okay, I will admit it.... I’m in love with Gage Mackenzie. I fell for him in The Rancher's Second Chance. Everytime the man says darlin', I melt. I went into reading Rescued by the Rancher already knowing that I was going to fall deeper in love with the man. I wasn’t expecting to want to scream and kick on the characters behalf. I should have known I was going to get an emotional read, but I wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming heartache and anger I felt. Just when I wanted to roll myself into a ball and cry, I became amazed by Meredith’s courage and strength.
Victoria James continues to be at the top of my list of must read authors. As with all her stories, she writes characters who are likeable, who have faults, have experienced tragedy, and have the ability to fight for a better life for themselves, one they can only dream of having.
Rescued by the Rancher is full of surprises. We get introduced to new characters that I hope we will be able to see in future books.

I enjoyed this sweet romance. Meredith has been living at the ranch with her sister for a year. She left her past behind her, a fiance and a father who abused her, and is starting a new life being a new Meredith. Gage is the foreman of the ranch and her brother-in-laws best friend. Meredith has known Gage for the last year and they are friends. There was a lot of sweetness to this romance but there was also a little suspense towards the end. It was light on the angst but there was a little drama. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author.
Rescued by the Rancher is the follow-up to The Rancher's Second Chance; though if you haven't read that one yet (and why? why haven't you? ;)) don't let that stop you from picking up this one--Ms. James gives you the important information you need to know here.
Our heroine, Meredith, is the older sister of Second Chance's Melanie. It's a year after the events of book one, when Gage found her outside the Tall Pines Ranch and carried her unconscious body into the house. He's been fighting his attraction to her ever since, but she's been too busy fighting her own demons to notice.
Or has she?
Mer's trying to make a new life for herself at Tall Pines, and she's decided that the new her needs...something. Not to be under a man's control again--not ever again, thank you--but one night with Gage, the one man who makes her feel safe and protected, should be just what she needs.
Just one night...riiiiiight. ;)
Even though there's a one-night stand at its heart (okay, it's way more than one night--but you knew that going in, right?) Rescued by the Rancher is a PG-13 read--it's part of the Bliss line, after all. Gage and Meredith's romance is sweet and behind-closed-doors steamy--so much fun to read!
One of my favorite parts of this book is that even though its title indicates that Mer will be "rescued by the rancher", she actually takes charge of her own rescue herself and already has a plan in place before Gage shows up to help. It shows just how far she's come from the cowering shell of a woman we first see in Second Chance. Plus, she gets an HEA with a smoking hot rancher. Win-win!

Every now and then you start reading a book and you know from the first page this is going to be a good read, for me Rescued by the Rancher was an awesome read.
Loved the characters, the storyline and the connection/attraction between Meredith and Gage was just perfect. This was a beautiful and heartfelt story, seeing both Gage and Meredith work through their painful past's to find love and happiness together left me with a huge smile and heart full of love.
The Tall Pines Ranch series https://www.goodreads.com/series/1246... is such a great read, I highly recommend this series of books. Looking forward to reading more from this talented author =)
I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for my honest thoughts
Loved this book!! A pure sweet romance develops between Meredith and Gage as she struggles to overcome the years of dominance by her father and ex fiance. Even though they both want more, it seems their lives are on two different paths. She's just earned her independence and wants to stand on her own while he's preparing to leave Tall Pines Ranch to start over on his own.
I really loved these characters and getting to know some of their secrets was very interesting. The bit of suspense and drama that was included made the story for me. I definitely recommend this one.
I've been waiting for this a long time and Victoria James has a knack of writing Meredith and Gage so sweetly that I'm just about to suffer from a toothache - willingly. (On a side note, Ms James seems to write men exactly the way women want them to be.) There's some angst and some secrets to be revealed along the way, but their story was surprising in many ways but fulfilling and satisfying. Pretty much worth the wait, I'd say.
Let me tell ya what I totally loved about this book. Both the H/h had baggage of their own to deal with but didn't need each other to get thru it! But they could have ... that's what great characters they were! We have two people trying to better their future finding out that a better future is in each other's arms! The storyline was super sweet and cute. An easy afternoon read! Not too much drama, a little bit of spark and maybe a tiny twist :) Have I sparked your interest? I hope so! GO FORTH AND ENJOY!

Though I was hoping for more drama, overall the classic plot is pretty easy to follow and it's definitely a nice read to look forward to before bed. I like this book, especially when it's the first book of Victoria James. Gage is the Hero you adore and Melanie is simply you. Look forward to read the previous book, since I didn't realize that this one is the second story of the series.
A wonderful installment to the Tall Pines Ranch Series!
This installment is the story of Gage Mackenzie and Meredith Anderson. We met them in Book 1 of Tall Pines Ranch Series with Cole and Melody’s story of “The Rancher’s Second Chance”. Meredith is Melody’s sister and Gage is the Ranch Manager for Tall Pines, and Cole Forrester’s (Melody’s husband) best friend.
Summary: We find out that it has been 1 year since Meredith moved in with Melody and her new husband Cole, right after Melody and Cole's wedding. Even though Meredith grew up with money, she lived in an unhappy, manipulative and abusive home, as did Melody but she got out years ago.
In the past year, Meredith has become a much more confident and independent woman and is now partners in her sister’s wedding planning business. She promised herself that she would never fall in love, ever!
Gage is very handsome and can have any women he desires and does, until 1 year ago, when Meredith “fell” into his life. Gage, however, said that he would never fall in love because of his child-hood life and the terrible things that happened to him. Both have been attracted to each other over the past year since Meredith literally fell into Gage’s arms (book 1) but neither has acted on it, nor have either forgotten about it.
Gage & Meredith each have a secret that they are not going to share with anyone. Gage is ashamed and does not want even Cole to know his past, including his childhood home situation and that he met his very rich biological father when he was 15 and did not feel that the man wanted him, so he exploded on him. These two issues brought him to the Pine Tree Ranch when Cole's Father took Gage in as his own and taught him everything as well as made him go to school and finish.
Meredith’s home life was different in that she had anything material that she wanted, but her father and fiancé told her what she could and could not do and her mother manipulated her and used quilt as a weapon. But, Meredith’s secret is more personal to her regarding a baby.
The Ranch hands go out to a local bar on Friday & Saturday nights. Meredith has decided that she has lived isolated long enough and is going to pick up someone at the bar with no-strings-attached. Gage not knowing Meredith’s objectives goes to make sure that Meredith is not taken advantage of or at least he keeps telling himself that. It turns out that in the end, she propositions Gage instead of someone else at the bar. While he is shocked, he cannot resist her any longer, even though he is leaving the Ranch soon because he is purchasing his own ranch 300 miles away.
Gage and Meredith both agree that it is a one night stand and that neither of them want anything more. With a lot of wonderful dialog and love scenes their feelings for each other only intensify. One night, while Meredith was fixing a cake for gage (and oh by the way, she can’t cook), Meredith’s Ex-fiancé comes in order to black-mail Meredith by threatening the Pine Tree Ranch if she does not come back to him and her father.
Meredith believes she has no choice and decides she must go with him and tells Gage and her sister that she is the one that wants to go back and called her ex to come and get her. As Meredith leaves while her sister, brother-in-law and Gage look on, Gage looks so deeply hurt and believes that just as he always thought, he is not good enough for Meredith after she saw where Gage lived as a child.
Issues: I have enjoyed all of Ms. James’s books. I am an avid reader and love a great Romance book. I typically only purchase Romance books that have more Passion and Sizzle in the love scenes (not Exotic), but the author's writing is so good that I forego the more detailed romance scenes and have read everything that she has written. Yes, I believe that her books are that good. I would give this book 5 stars with just a tiny more sizzle in the love scenes.
Conclusion: You must read this book and find out if Meredith finds a way out of her situation with her father and ex. And, find out if Cole can protect Meredith because now he knows he loves her and cannot live without her.
I like Ms. James books because she is a great story teller and her characters all have a lot of depth as do the supporting cast. This installment can be read alone but, I do believe that it enhances your experience if you also read the first book, “The Rancher’s Second Chance”. Don't miss this installment, "Rescued by the Rancher" at "Tall Pines Ranch".

Meredith and Gage are simply perfect for each other. I loved this couple.
Meredith came to Tall Pines to rebuild her life, redesign it and make her life her own, on her terms. This transformation was not easy. An abusive, controlling father, and an equally obnoxious ex-fiance were always putting her down, tearing apart her self-confidence. They had her believing she was worthless without them in her life.
She had the courage to break away. To come to her sister and begin her life anew, far from the past and the people who would eventually destroy her. And it’s working. She’s a partner with her sister in a wedding planning business. Her self-confidence is growing. She may never fall in love herself, but she’s also done sitting on the sidelines.
Gage has his own personal emotional baggage. He feels that he would never, ever be good enough for a lady like Meredith. But circumstances are going to put him right where he’s wanted to be – with Meredith. One night. Or a lifetime? It’s up to them to make possibilities into reality.
These two have so much going for them, and are so amazing together. They just need to jump in and take the chance. Both have has such emotional garbage tossed at them that they must clear out the past in order to grab onto the future. There is suspense – the nasty bastard tries to control Meredith once again – but in the end, love wins.
Now let’s talk about love scenes (sex scenes). There are very few authors that can bring us up to the “big” moment with such sensuous feelings and stop. No minute details, not knowing every gasp and thrust – just knowing with certainty that this couple had a very satisfying sexual moment. And we, the reader, never invaded their “bedroom”. I mean, really. My imagination is pretty good… and I’ve read enough for it to be even better than it was a few years ago, ya know? I knew, without a doubt that behind closed doors Gage and Meredith was one hot, satisfied, loving couple.
Although this is the second installment in Tall Pines, you don’t need to read the first one… sure, it helps but it is not necessary, in my opinion. Having said that, I had not read the beginning novel, so I’m heading over to Amazon to fix that oversight right now.
*I received an e-ARC of Rescued by the Rancher from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
This was an refreshingly sweet romance about two people who both had pasts that haunted them. I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review. Meredith is a rather shy woman who has lived at her brother-in-law's ranch for a year after leaving an emotionally abusive husband and unsupportive family. Her father and ex do everything they can to put her down at every opportunity. She has become close friends with Gage, the foreman of the ranch. Gage is known for his one night hook ups and emotional detachment from women, but what he shares with Meredith is special. He recognizes his feelings for her are stronger than friendship but doesn't believe himself good enough for a woman like her. She comes from wealth and status, and that's not something he can provide. Little does he know that Meredith has wanted him almost from the moment they met. She just doesn't feel like she's beautiful or good enough for him. Once she finally finds the nerve to talk him into a one night fling, sparks fly. They are perfect together and while both of them know it's more than just a physical fling for only one night neither one wants to admit it to the other and risk the rejection. As the weeks go on, they start seeing each other more and spending more time together and they both see things in the other that they didn't know existed. Meredith sees a gently, vulnerable side to Gage that he doesn't show just anyone and Gage sees that although Meredith thinks herself weak, she's actually stronger than he had imagined. Things are going fairly well for them when all of a sudden Meredith's ex shows up threatening to ruin the ranch and Gage's reputation if she doesn't come back to him. She feels like she owes her sister and her husband, Cole, and Gage at least that much for everything they've done for her. She won't have them be hurt because of her. So even though it's the hardest lie she's ever told she leaves and goes back with the jerk to protect those that she loves. This is when we really get to see Gage bloom. He faces some hard truths from his past in order to get her back. He has faith in her love for him and knows she had to have been lying when she said she didn't want him anymore. He refuses to give up and it will melt your heart to see him go to such lengths to be with the woman who he knows is the love of his life.

Not only can you not go wrong by reading a book from Entangled Publishing, but you definitely can't go wrong reading anything by Victoria James. I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. I read Cole/Melanie's book last night and wondered how the very broken Meredith would be portrayed in this story.
Almost a year has passed and Meredith is a healthier (physically) and stronger (mentally) woman, but still with some long ingrained vulnerabilities to work through. Meredith had a very endearing combination of prim/proper elegance along with a curiosity to catch up on what she's missed out (communal bowl of beer nuts), trying on her sassy pants (or a bedazzled Bite Me t-shirt), and an unexpected quick wit. She is becoming her own woman and is no one's doormat. She breaks my heart and she makes me cheer for her. As for Gage? He's the perfect combination of charming, funny, sweet, caring, and humble. He loves chocolate cake and his Sunday night programming. Enough said.
Something that stood out to me while reading this and the other book - the sexy time scenes fade out. It made me realize what an incredible talent Ms. James has with writing. She can build a scene's intensity and their chemistry without it having to be explicitly worded out for me to understand their connection.
I don't usually care for the meddling older person playing matchmaker, but Mrs. H definitely grew on me. It started with the spiked hot chocolate for Melanie and this time she dropped a colorful word and backstory that endeared me to her even more. Plus, that dish towel...
I do think the book could be read as a standalone, but you will get a much stronger understanding of the background of the ranch and the sister's family by reading The Rancher's Second Chance.
I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from the publisher for an honest review (thank you!!).
[PS - I'm really intrigued by a new character introduced - Nathan (and his sister, Madison)... crossing my fingers we might see a story for him soon!}
I enjoy reading romances and happily ever afters right along suspense, thrillers and bloodshed. Some love stories are nice, but there are some that become close to your heart, stirs some personal memories and leaves us with a smile and a feeling of happiness.
“Rescued By The Rancher” is another charming story as Meredith Anderson re-unites with her sister Melanie and is all ready to start over. Tall Pines Ranch has been her salvation as Meredith leaves a past of control, power and money that had threatened her sanity and life. As she rebuilds her relationship with her sister, she also rebuilds her strength and confidence, helping Melanie runs her business. And as her confidence grows, so does her love for the handsome cowboy Gage MacAllister grows by leaps and bounds.
As the foreman and best friend, Tall Pines has given Gage a new lease of life. A past filled with neglect and abandonment and estranged from his rich father, Gage had a build a life for himself at Tall Pines, and now is smitten with Meredith. Loyal, hardworking and with a heart of gold, Gage is utterly delicious and has no qualms owning to the fact that he Downtown Abbey is his favorite show!
Two people hurting from painful pasts and with a sleuth of insecurities in their lives, the only thing that makes them happy is the desire and love that seems to grow between them. One night stand becomes all nights and with a promise of a future on the horizon.
As a first time reader of Victoria James, I loved her writing, loved her narration and loved her story line too. “Rescued By The Rancher” is charming, it tugs at your heart and you will admire Meredith for her courage and strength and leaves you with a satisfaction of reading a wonderful love story. Victoria definitely spent time creating Gage and Meredith with all their faults, insecurities and sacrifices to make them as relatable as possible to an everyday couple.
I definitely will be circling back to Victoria James in the future.

Meredith has been living at the ranch with her sister for a year. She left her past behind her, -- a past that had a deceitful fiancé and a domineering father who abused her, and is starting a new life being a new heathier Meredith.
Gage is a protector; strong, sexy and gentle, he's a complete sweetheart, but like Meredith, he has his own secrets. The emotional components around Gage and Meredith show a sexy and amorous feel keeping the courtship alive all thru the story. There are secrets that these two are keeping that prevent them from just embracing their love for one another -What we do know is Gage has said he will never “ fall in love” due to his childhood –the trauma he endured but he is slowly falling into love with Meredith. Meredith has something even more personal involving a baby.
They are slowly learning to let go of the past and let themselves just believe in each other and let go of the past when Meredith’s ex fiancée shows up and threatens Gage- says if she doesn’t do what he says, he will hurt Gage and hurt her sister and her family. Meredith does something so selfless and of love, that it brought tears to my eyes for several reasons. I prayed that she would be saved and that she and Gage would get their HEA and that the “villains” would get theirs and soon.
This was a great story and a wonderful follow up in the Tall Pines series. I cant wait to read more in this series. The author has a hit on her hands and the emotions she writes really translate out and makes the reader feel everything she writes. Wonderful and I loved Meredith and Gage as characters and I rooted for them to get their HEA.
This is my first time in reading this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. She has the ability to create characters that catch you right away and take you into the story that has a delightful flow with no hiccups. Meredith and Gage are two such characters that take two people that even though they think love could not be in the cards for them, they are about to be their past does not dictate their future. She brings these two to life in such a manner that as you learn about them and watch these two grow together that you delight in seeing them be proven love finds a way in even though most stubborn people. Rocky start in life is what Gage had but after he is taken in by someone who is more of a parent than his mother he grows into one fine man. But he wants to find his own way now but Meredith burns a fire in him of a different kind. Being with her sister and building a different life than her past that would of destroyed her, she discovers she does have passion and the ability to love. Her past will also try and step in and destroy her once again but the love of a man lets no one do that to the one he loves regardless of the outcome of the two of them. When all said and done when finished reading this one, sat back and sighed satisfied. Received a arc for a honest review.
This is the story of Meredith and Gage. She is learning to have a new life without those she loves controlling her every action. He is thinking of leaving and just gives her one night.
Meredith has had so much bad happen in her past. Her parents are very manipulative and do not want her to have a close relationship with her sister. She comes to live with her sister and brother in law at Tall Pines - after she has had enough!
Gage wants to buy his own property. He has friends and family here but desires to be his own boss. He also think Meredith deserves more than he can give.
The only thing they cannot deny is each other. The sparks flying off them is almost too hot for anyone else in the room. Can love conquer all? Can you really get over your past?
The true meaning of family and real love are just a few of the subjects this book covers. I found the characters entertaining and fun. This is another keeper for the shelf!
***This ARC copy was given free from Netgalley.com and the publisher, for review purposes. My honest opinion does not reflect Netgalley, nor its affiliates.
This was a sweet story, though with definite touches of darkness to it. Meredith really pushed herself to get out of the bad situation she'd gotten into, finding herself with her sister. Now tired of being the "perfect girl" she always had to be when she lived at home, she starts "something" (neither can really define it) with Gage.
There are some twists throughout, both with Gage and with Meredith and their families. I really enjoyed how both worked (separately) to solve the Meredith's family problem and in the end, their solutions ended up being quite complementary (very vague, but trying to avoid spoilers).
Meredith's old loss that haunts her in the wake of some fantastic news from her sister really resonated with me. I nearly cried with her as she related what had happened and the guilt she felt over it to Gage.
Gage - he was awesome. That's pretty much it.
Sorry this is a discombobulated mess of a review, but I really enjoyed it and there was a 'lot' to the story.
Check it out if you get the chance. It's worth the read and a bargain at the price.

A year ago Meredith Anderson ran from her past. She fainted into the arms of Gage McAllister, foreman at the Tall Pines Ranch. A year later and she's still skittish and struggling with her attraction to Gage. Will a one night stand turn into more? Who will be there when her past catches up to her?
Such a heartbreaking story for two such wonderful people who deserve happiness. Being an angry teenager totally affected Gage's entire life. It's a good thing we sometimes get second chances. For Meredith, growing up and having your spirit crushed, makes for quite a miserable person. It's a good thing she has her sister, Melanie, to turn to. I love seeing someone who's been broken down, come back even stronger to face their bullies. This is a tragic and beautiful love story that includes a very SEXY cowboy or two! A great addition to the Tall Pines Ranch series. Victoria James has proven once again that she knows what she's doing when it comes to writing about those sexy irresistable cowboys! Gage McAllister is definitely book boyfriend material.
Shed a few tears in this one just grabs at your emotions. Both characters have some real deep emotional scars. Gage believes he is not worthy of Meridith, but it doesn't stop him from desiring her. Meridith is putting her life back together they way she wants to not what others tell her. She's putting the new her into motion and her first step seduce Gage to experience the all consuming passion he invokes in her. Soon Gage and Meridith's one night stand becomes more and they've finally reached happiness, but Meridith's past comes barreling back pushing her to the point she pushes Gage away. Can Gage get that happiness back or has really lost Meridith? Loved Gage he is great hero material. He has a past he rather forget, but he has so much compassion and they way he treats Meridith just makes me swoon. I liked the events at the end of the book for Gage definitely made my heart happy for him. I really enjoyed the journey Meridith goes through to become the woman she is by the end of the book.
This is the second of the Tall Pines series but could really be read as a stand alone, but I think you relate to the story better if you first read book one in this series, The Rancher's Second Chance. I really enjoyed the character's in this book. They had a flawed childhood and they both had real trust issues, but they grew to let their past go and grab on to the future they deserved. What amazes me with Victoria James's writing is that she can write a beautiful love scene that doesn't go into graphic detail but still maybe one of the hottest things you ever read. I love the way she creates her character's that they are "real" people with "real" problems that they must overcome. I like to read all types of romance novels and gravitate to the strong, rich, powerful men but sometimes you need a true "real" romance and that is what you will find in Victoria James's books. And that is why she will always be one of my favorite authors.
Meredith Anderson left a life filled with pain and abuse. She's loves being in Tall Pines with her sister. She's learning to stand up for herself and become the strong, confident person that she wants to be. Gage McAllister is attracted to her, but he doesn't want anything permanent. He'll look but won't touch. That is until Meredith asks for one night of love. Will it lead to more? Meredith is an emotional character. I love her courage and her desire to find happiness and be her own person. Gage is perfect for her. I enjoyed seeing them together. He's a man who will protect those he cares for. He knows how it feels to be abandoned and alone. These two have had such pain and sorrow in their past. I wanted them to find the love that they deserved. I cheered when Ron, Meredith's ex-fiancée and abuser, was brought down. Victoria James creates characters that grab you and pull you into their story. I enjoy her books and hope to visit Tall Pines Ranch again.
Two broken souls, Meredith and Gage. Meredith is only looking for a one night stand, she does not want her heart broken again and Gage has wanted Meredith since he first met her a year ago. Gage has to prove to Meredith that is such a thing as love, and it should not always hurt.
This is a sweet romance that is full of emotions. Meredith is such a likeable character, that has had such tragedy and to see her blossom out and stand her own ground, you will be cheering right beside her. Gage also has had a rough bringing up, and now want to prove to his family of his own self worth. Meredith and Gage are just the perfect couple.
I highly recommend this book and anything that is written by Victoria James, she is on my auto buy list. I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
This was a sweet story. It did not have the sizzling hot scenes, more of a fade to black. But it did have some emotional ones that were so much more than the physical. Both Gage and Meredith were broken and yet both seemed to be what the other needed to heal. I loved Gage's protectiveness of Meredith, talk about major swooning. He saw so much in her and wanted to do so much for her. It was very endearing. And Meredith, how I loved thee too. She wanted to change her ways to be stronger and independent. And Gage was there beside her to give her that little extra push.
I am glad their familial situation worked out as it did. Definitely high fives! And the ending, so loving, tears were coming.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.
Blame it on my roots but I'm a sucker for a good rancher/cowboy novel. This story of Meredith and Gage was so intriguing I never once caught myself thinking "when will this story be over". There were elements that were familiar for this type story, but I enjoyed Victoria James' presentation so much. Here we have Meridith, a woman reclaiming her life and Gage the boy who never felt like he belonged. Mix them together and you have one dynamite couple. I especially enjoyed the retribution they both received in the end, right along with their happily ever after! Apparently I have been living under a rock, but now that I've discovered Ms. James I will definitely be checking out her other works!
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was the first one that I have read by Victoria James, but will not be my last.
Usually in Bliss books there are no sex scenes, but there were plenty of parts where I almost thought I was reading an indulgence or brazen novel. Then the scenes would fade out in a fabulous way. As a reader I was still able to feel the attraction between the two characters and boy did these two have chemistry!
I was also surprised by some parts of the book, and didn’t see some things coming. One part that surprised me was when Meredith opened up to Gage and what happened to her completely broke my heart.
I haven't read the first book in the series, but this one had me absorbed from the first page. I could quickly identify with Meredith- wanting to change and be someone stronger as well as your own person rather than who others want you to be. Coupled with Gabe, they become an unstoppable force. He sees the best in her and the woman that she not only is, but intends to be. With his love she'll have no choice but to blossom.
I absolutely loved the author's writing style. As well as where she took the novel. I can't wait to go back and read the first part.
