Having once been a MarjJanice Davidson reader, I wanted to like this book. Thought it might be a distraction from the more serious stuff.... It's closer to a waste of time. I kept trying. Flipped through the chapters, read a paragraph here and there. Story was so transparent that I never lost the plot despite skipping dozens of pages at a time. Not her best. Don't bother.

By Any Other Name - is a story about family, friendship and love in various forms. Stephanie has lived with Sir, her guardian, since her parents passed on shortly after her birth. Stephanie meets Eric, a young friend of Sir's and the plot thickens when Eric and Stephanie fall in love with each other but won't admit it and Eric learns of Sir's secret: Stephanie's father is still alive. Very well written book that had unexpected plot twists and charismatic characters. Out of all the various titles I do recommended this one.

More than any other story by MJD, this one read like her take on a traditional-style romance novel. And not just because there's no woo-woo supernatural stuff in it. It's very soap opera-esque, lots of grand drama, great surprise twists to it. One of my favorites by her.

TOTAL FLUFF & A WASTE OF TIME.
She’s only good at the urban fantasy/romance/comedy books... any time she veers off that style, it is terrible.

Not one of her better books, still the twists at the end were good.

Cheesy romance novel, but oh so cute. I really liked the characters. It was fun without being excessively annoying like a lot of her books are.

Love me some MJ, but this is definitely an early book. Story was okay, but it just didn't flow like they do now as she has evolved into the author she is now.

I'm beginning to like some of her non-series novels better because she can hit with the wit and its good and stays entertaining.
