A power-hungry vampire in search of a fruitful alliance...
Kirill is a vampire prince plotting to be a vampire king. His immortal father has no intentions of vacating the throne anytime soon, but all good things come to those who wait…and plan. Bit by bit, Kirill is gathering political allies, forming alliances with goblins, trolls, and any other magical creatures who will speak with him. Unfortunately, his ruthless machinations can only get him so far. Some situations just require a woman’s touch. If only the fiery maiden with the power to help him didn’t strain his control over his lust for blood…and more.
A rebellious siren with a song to soothe the savage heart...
Irina will not cower. Not from her evil sorceress stepmother, and not from the vampire prince whose fangs threaten her with death even as his lips raise the heated desire of her bloodline. With a dagger at the ready, she agrees to a bargain -- her aid in his pursuit of political alliances with creatures beyond the veil in return for a reduction in the royal tithe her people are forced to pay the crown. If only sharp fangs and a sharp tongue weren’t such an incendiary combination...
Even an undead mastermind can’t foresee everything...

She is amazed and grateful to have made a writing career out of a Master’s degree in Psychology, hours of couch-detecting watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, and endless research into mythology and fairy tales. BLOOD REALM SERIES (PARANORMAL ROMANCE, IN PROGRESS SPIN-OFF OF BLOOD PRINCE SERIES):
I was curious if the series got better or if the story-telling got better but I just am not the right reader for this book! It's completely me but blah. I was bored and DNF it. The story didn't lure me in.
Star rating is based on personal preferences. Not my kind of romance. Don't like reading about H's who have seduced and been with h's stepmother in the past. And especially, not interested in H that kisses ow/stepmother after meeting and kissing the h

4 Stars... This story was a huge improvement, for me, over the first book...I felt as though the storyline was deeper and more engaging, the characters more fierce and somewhat darker, and the overall feel of the book was less rushed allowing the story to unfold in it's entirety... Irina is a strong, independent, brave, and sensual heroine that stood toe to toe with Kirill, the scheming yet loyal and undeniably sexy vampire...the two together provided a scorching chemistry that added a sultry dynamic to the overall storyline....I also enjoyed the reconnection of the Blood Princes and the small details that provide clues to each of their unfolding stories...looking forward to the next book in the series:)
A blonde, bold prince. A damsel in distress with snow white skin and ruby red lips. A wicked, forever-young stepmother with a magic mirror. Dwarfs who mine gems. Though it might sound like it, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" this isn't. Vampiric Prince Kirill preys on pretty necks while seeking to dethrone his father, beautiful Irina is a community organizer capable of leaving Saul Alinsky in her dust, and a gargoyle joy-rides through Evil Stepmother's mirror - all in a fantasy land that looks and sounds suspiciously like pre-industrial Russia.
This is the second in Jennifer Blackstream's Blood Prince series, which takes traditional fairy tales and turns them on their sides. I enjoyed the first "Cinderella" story of a lycanthrope prince seeking his perfect mate. I enjoyed this second story even more.
Prince Kirill is wily and scheming and even a little smarmy. His ambitions have led him to force favors rather than seek friendly alliances. However, at his non-beating heart, he seeks to be a good king to keep his realm strong. And he thinks he can do it better than his ruthless father. One night Kirill comes upon a lovely girl in the snow and takes her to the dwarfs. For his part, he is just being a Good Samaritan. However, Irina discovers it is the prince who assisted her, and that gets her wondering about the man and whether he will be a good king or tax his subjects into poverty. Her activist personality won't go into neutral, even though the dwarfs warn her that Prince Kirill might just suck her dry if she is rude to him. The two meet. Irina insults Kirill. He thinks she is a spicy little morsel with an intriguing mind and no wish for longevity.
As much as Kirill might want a little neck nip, he exercises supreme control over his actions. In fact, his entire life is about control. And obtaining even more control.
A vampire without control over his bloodlust was an animal, not a man, and certainly not a king.
Unfortunately, Irina will not be controlled. She confounds him even as his attraction for her grows. In turn, she practically melts at his silky voice. He speaks and she gets turned on. She can't believe she covets such a manipulator.
His voice has no business outside the bedroom, she thought miserably. It shouldn't be possible to be attracted to someone threatening to end your life.
These personality foibles, Kirill's need for supremacy and Irina's determination to live life on her terms, are revealed in insightful layers by author Jennifer Blackstream. They humanize these two fairy tale celebrities and make the story that much more poignant. Amid magical mayhem the two fall in love, but the villains looking to end them are many. The plot and action in this story are utterly unpredictable while the hero and heroine are inspiring but flawed, and that makes a familiar fairy tale become fantastic fiction.
This is a re-imagining of Snow White with a Vampire Prince and a wicked Sorceress stepmother. I didn't mind the storyline of a calculating Vampire Prince Kirill plotting to overthrow his Vampire father as King and the Mary-Sue Irina who befriends everyone and so became a pawn for Kirill in seeking alliances with other kingdoms.
What really grated is the narrator's decision to use this cheesy Russian TV gangster voice for Kirill and it just made all those seduction scenes more sleazy than sexy, especially when Irina is supposed to be swooning over his sexy voice and I'm cringing.... so have deducted 1/2 star from the rating.
The first book in this series, Before Midnight, took the traditional Cinderella tale, spun it around, added new elements and a much darker atmosphere and produced an exciting version with a werewolf prince. One of the things I appreciated about it is the Prince is more than merely Charming – he comes with complete with rough spots, the occasional dent, and a lot of tarnish.
This book does the same for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The vampire prince of this story is only charming when it serves his political agenda, and does he have an agenda! Not born a vampire, he was raised to be the next king. But now that his whole family has become vampires his inheritance is iffy to say the least. To say that our hero finds that unacceptable is an understatement. Machiavelli would have found his plotting admirable.
Enter our heroine, who the prince finds injured in in the woods. He delivers her to the nearby cottage of the seven dwarves and moves on, not truly expecting to ever see her again. And you know what happens then, she plays Susie Homemaker for the dwarves until she’s well enough to pursue her own agenda. You see, Irena is a crusader, believing in truth, justice, and equality for all members of the kingdom. When she shows up at the Prince’s door to examine his intentions for the kingdom, he is stunned. He had thought about her but assumed that she would be both obsequious and grateful for his condescension and aid. As the story progresses, he wavers between wanting to kill her and kiss her. Guess which side wins!
Of course there’s the requisite wicked stepmother and poisoned apple and let’s not forget the glass coffin, but even they have a new twist. To rescue his beloved the prince is going to have to learn to ask nicely for help. Machiavelli would shudder.
One of my favorite bits is the fact that the Prince’s family was assassinated and rose as vampires because the King had been having them all drink blood as part of his interpretation of an ancient prophecy. I can’t help thinking that if that got around a lot of people would be sharpening the carving knives and inviting their least favorite relatives to dinner…
I also love the use of Russian folklore elements. They enrich the background of the story and make the characters even more interesting. I liked that Kyrill was a researcher as well as a plotter. I like that Irena isn’t entirely a goody-two-shoes. She really (and understandably) wants to put it to her stepmother.
We get further glimpses into the series’ story arc and the princes themselves. Anticipation for the stories that the other princes will play in is building. They actually have roles to play with in this story, not simply part of the framing prologue, which was delightful.
All in all I’m finding this a great series and am looking forward to the next story and the ones after that.

Things are heating up.
I still want more out of these books, perhaps a slower transition along the story. I mean, I know what happens in these fairy tales, and I'd like for it to be dragged out a little more. That aside, I thought that Kirill and Irina were great together. He's so, well, calculating, really, yet humorous in his own way and alluring; and she's so spunky and feisty--although, I will say that she was a bit more fond of slapping the daylights out of him than was necessary at times, but, hey, the girl's been through a lot so I'll forgive her this--for the most part.
The story digressed far enough from the norm of it that I was happy. It was different, with just the right amount of familiarity to make it enjoyable: a.k.a., the apple and the adorable Dwarves, of course.
I feel that the story between the characters (the five Princes) is developing nicely. They're all evolving in their relationships toward each other, and I felt it a really good bit of growth on Kirill's part to step away from his scheming ways long enough to realize that there's more to what he needs than mere manipulation to get what he wants.
It made him (ha! I almost said it made him more "human") more approachable, which in turn made him more likeable.
Oh what a relief to come across a Snow White in Irina that's not the simpering, cute, sweet, perfect Snow White I've come across many other times. It's one of the reasons I can't even stand to watch the Disney film (sorry, fans out there). Irina is strong, but not so overpowering that she was annoying. I hate Mary Sues. She has just the right balance in her.
It would have been great to see more of the king and queen, especially since Kirill has such a coup to deal with concerning his father. But, I do hope that we'll get to see that in the future, even if in a small peek along the lines of one of the other books.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read, with a very fun set of protagonists. I think my main issue was how many times I had to Google the various beings that were mentioned and introduced throughout this story, but, hey, at least I learned of a few new (for me, anyway) mythological creatures along the way.
P.S.: The "evil" queen was wonderfully disliked, but she definitely deserved to suffer more than a swift death down on the lake with her monstrous creation. Kirill, you bad boy, letting your temper get the best of you again. Tsk tsk tsk...
A vampire and Snow White story rolled up all into one?! Sign me up!!!!
The vampire prince, Kirill, is plotting to over throw his father and become king and so he's on a consent search for allies, and he'll do anything to make sure he accomplish his goal. And a certain woman is the only person that can help him now.
Irina will not allow her fear of others and their powers to stop her from living, and she wont be taken advantage of if she has anything to say about it!! Not even from her evil sorceress stepmother, and certainly not from the prince whose fangs threaten her with death. She agrees to a bargain with her aid in helping the prince gain a political alliances with creatures beyond the veil in return for a reduction in the royal tithe her people are forced to pay to the crown.
I love that Irina is so kind and wise, my respect for her went up when she spoke to the prince as her equal saying that allies can be your friends and that they are stronger allies to you if you are either family or good friends to them. She also wont take advantage of her friends to gain the things she wants and that's why her friends are so loyal and protective of her. I liked it when she said that she would never ask or demand her allies to fight for her as she is a very humble person.
My favourite line: Terror reaches inside you and twists your mind, colors your decisions, and limits your options. If I’m going to live my life under the constant threat of death, then I’m going to live it on my terms.
And this one: “My circumstances have taken certain choices from me. I’ll be damned if I let fear take any more.”
I love that the prince desires power and the crown but is secretly kind and just. And that his love interest desires vengeance and her peoples safety but she just wants to live a happy life with the ones she love. I like this couple together and I like the slow shift of the prince takes throughout the book.
This is my absolute favorite from one of my favorite authors! I am in love with Kirill! He is a sexy, dark, plotting, and obsessive vampire hero. I thought his character was very well done, it is hard to make a hero this dark and still make him loveable. Irina held her own with this alluring hero. She was sweet, intelligent, brave, and intriguing. I loved how she marched into a vampire den and started making demands! Kirill’s devotion to her is so endearing. I would like to encourage anyone who doesn’t like paranormal, fantasy, or romances to skip this book. It is unfair, to the author and readers, to read a genre you don’t like and then give it a bad rating. I have read the entire Blood Prince series twice and will read them again in the future. They can all be read as standalones if you skip the prologues and epilogues, which I honestly skim through anyways. I really couldn’t care less about the whole “World Tree” plot. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Blackstream usually sticks to just 1 scene towards the end of each book. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-5/5 Steaminess-4/5 Explicitness-3/5

I liked this second book more than I liked the first, and honestly I think it was because of Irina, she had a much more likeable character than ... in the first book.
So this book is an adaptation of snow white with a vampire, Irina being snow white and the vampire Prince Kirill being Prince charming. I loved loved loved Indiana who was not the Disney snow white but a gutsy rebellious and adventurous, more of a snow white and the huntsman snow white. Kirill was also quite a fun character however I am getting a bit annoyed with bad boys always doing the right thing, just be bad for me please.
The secondary characters were ok although instantly forgettable, I didn't mind however since I really did love the main characters.
The pacing was good and kept me reading until the early hours of the morning.
The storyline was good especially the little changes which set it apart from the original story.
Definitely deserves the 4 star rating really did enjoy reading this.
So continues my obsession with twisted fairy tales. The Blood Prince series is definitely feeding that obsession. ;)
One Bite is a very witty title when you think about it. This twisted take on Snow White has the apple, the wicked step mother, the woodsman and the dwarves, but the real question is does the ‘one bite’ refer to the poisoned apple or the Vampire prince?
Kirill plots while Irina negotiates. They both have secrets that they are keeping for very different reasons. Even thought the story is familiar, there is still a fair amount of mystery. After all, this tale is twisted. ;)
I’m loving the interesting turns in this series that not only take the characters in totally unexpected directions but hint at things to come. The women in these ‘tales’ are just as strong as the men destined to save them. The men are beginning to realize that they are a much stronger force working together instead of against one another. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Speaking of next, Golden Stair is our next twisted tale in The Blood Prince series. Long hair, a tower…hmmm??
Plot: 4.5/5 Characterisation: 3.5/5 Prose: 3/5 How much I enjoyed it: 4.5/5 Even though you can expect the key plots of Snow White in this story, I like how it's woven into the story.. Though I wish there was more of the dwarves.
In the first book, Before Midnight, we got an amazing and fresh retelling of Cinderella. There were so many great things about that story and Jennifer was able to do the same thing with this book. This book focus’ on Snow White. There is a poison apple, evil stepmother, and a glass coffin but Jennifer gives us so much more with her story.
We have Irina who is running from a stepmother that is trying to kill her. While she is running she is trying to band the different territories together to rid them of the royal family. Irina is a rebel, crusader, whatever you want to call her. She is brave and courageous. She believes in truth, justice, and equality for everyone in the kingdom. She is not a weak heroine that is going to wait to meet the prince to try and get what she wants. She seeks him and doesn’t roll over when he tells her to. She stands up to him and doesn’t show her fear when she goes toe to toe with a vampire.
Kirill finds a woman injured in the snow. When he drops her off with the dwarves he never expects to see her again. But when she shows up in his chambers he sees how useful she can be in Kirill taking the throne from his father. One thing Jennifer does so well, is she roughs up her Princes. There is no Prince Charming who is perfect. So far both leading men have rough spots with the occasional dent. Kirill in no different. He is so focused on taking the kingdom he doesn’t know how to trust anyone else. Until Irina. To save Irina from the coffin Kirill is going to learn how to ask for help, share information, let someone else rule, and trust someone other than himself.
There are so many different elements that make this story interesting. There is Russian influence and I love the royal family’s background. They didn’t turn into vampires the old fashioned way. They had been drinking blood and when their subjects killed them they rose again as vampires. I love how each book is basically a stand-alone but the prologue and the epilogue really bring all of the stories together. To understand the bigger plot you really have to read all of the books. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Another dark, lovely retelling in this brilliant series! One Bite was a wonderful, dark re-imagining of Snow White with-wait for it-vampires! It was absolutely fantastic and I totally loved it.
I'm just loving this series. I love dark fairy tales and these books hit that dead on. We get more of an idea of what's going on with the prophecy of the World Tree and why it involves the princes of the 5 realms. I loved book 1, I loved book 2 even more, and I can't wait to see what's in store for book 3. If I remember correctly, it will be a dark version of Rapunzel, featuring our incubus. Doesn't that sound fun? I think it does.
Irina was a strong heroine. She's lived in fear of her stepmother for years and, after finally escaping, she's not going to let anyone else rule her. She was tough, kind, and a great character. I really liked her.
Kirill was a crafty character. He's very clever, ambitious, and determined. Because of that, he comes off as cold-hearted at first. But, it doesn't take long after he meets Irina that we see his soft side. He was very devoted to and protective of her. He was really sweet and I adored him.
The romance was lovely. Irina and Kirill were a perfect match. With Irina's ability to charm others into friendship and Kirill's ability to ruthlessly scheme, they were complements to each other. Not to mention the chemistry between these two. It was super hot and steamy. I thought these two were perfect together.
The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. Even though this book follows the story of Snow White, so we know what's going to happen, the author managed to throw in a few surprises. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. I can't wait to get my hands on book 3!
One Bite was a brilliant paranormal romance. It took the story of Snow White and make it delightfully dark and absolutely amazing. I loved this book! Lovers of romance, this is a book you have to read.
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
While this tale is generally crafted around the fairy tale of Snow White it is very unlike that childrens story in many ways, the least of which is the vampire prince.
This is a dark tale for a goodly part of the story as the parts that Walt Disney skipped over are brought to life here with some added things inserted. There are still dwarves, an apple and the wicked stepmother but the similarity starts getting thin otherwise and it was an excellent creative story that can be read in a few hours at one sitting (as I did since it was enthralling).
The story of Erina and Kirill was not a "love at first sight" as many in this genre are and I enjoyed that the author took the time to give it some appearance of actually an evolving relationship. The original aspects of the story weaved with some familiar things from the classic tale were very entertaining.
5 Stars for putting so much of an original story weaved into a classic tale without the feeling that it was shortened, the still unrevealed overarching storyline is coming together a bit more but anopther reason to keep reading .
I loved the first book in this series and knew that I had to read whatever came next.
I received a copy of this book from LoP in place of an honest review.
I will have to say that this one is my favorite because I have always love Snow White and this one is sorta like that. I will tell you that this isn't a Disney princess. This one just happens to have a little extra in it. We are closer to finding the clues that we first heard about in the first book.
Irina is just wanting her freedom but her evil step-mom will fight her with everything she has. She knows that her days will be numbered and I have to say that this step-mother is worse than the Disney one. Irina seems to be what calms down the vampire prince Kirill. Kirill doesn't know what she has that helps him stay calm. All he wants is to become king and all Irina just wants to save her kingdom Dacia.
If you haven't read this series you really need to give them a try.
Actually 3.75stars The five immortal princes meet at the world tree once again. Much is made of Prince Etienne, his fortune in finding a mate and becoming full lycanthrope once again. But the center of this outing is the vampire, Prince Kirill, in the retelling of Snow White or is it Sleeping Beauty? Whichever story we're reading, the prince is a vampire.
As Kirill's character demonstrated in the origin story and this prologue, he's obsessed with gaining power and unseating his father the king. Politically outspoken Irina has been treated badly by her scheming witch of a stepmother. When Irina escapes her stepmother's castle she views it as an opportunity to speak to the prince.
Forming an alliance, they keep their attraction to each other to themselves until it's important for Kirill to confess. Once again, this was a fun outing except the ending seemed a bit rushed and I would have liked to know more about Irina. Their chemistry was good and I liked that Kirill was flawed.
A nice take on the Snow White fairytale and a great second novel in the Blood Prince series. Can be read as a standalone, but spoilers for the first novel Before Midnight. Kirill took time to warm up to, his machinations making it difficult to see how Irina would fall for him, especially given her circumstances. Irina was a nice embodiment of Snow White, with a pure, if a little snarky disposition.
The story wove the over-arching arch of the Great Kingdom and World Tree nicely. All round a nice little read.
I thought the first book in the series was ok - enough to push me towards the second book, but I wasn't "Wowed". This book was much better - snow white has always been one of my least favorite stories. This book gave Snow White an amazing voice and I loved it.
Another Gripping New Twist To A Favourite Traditional Tale.
I really enjoyed this book. I am becoming a fan of the way Ms Blackstream takes traditional folk/fairy tales and makes them her own. This time it was Snow White that gets the Blackstream treatment!
I found this story very easy to read and get caught up in; the writing style was intelligent, the pace and plot development was well balanced, I enjoyed the twists and turns to the various mysteries woven throughout this (un) traditional paranormal romance tale.
I added the narration too and was impressed with Matt Addis' performance; the pace of his narration was just right and I enjoyed his vocal variances for the dialogue.
There is a background story arc that binds all of the Blood Prince books but each one can be read as a standalone romance.
I have added the whole series to my Amazon wish list and book 2 Golden Stair and novella 2.5 what big teeth you have are already waiting (im) patiently on my Kindle.
The five main characters meet again, in front of Eurydice's World Tree. In Book 2, Kirill, vampire prince, and Irina, a rusalka maiden, stepdaughter to a wicked sorceress. You will soon notice this is a remake of Snow White, but modified to fit the Blood Princes storyline. There are quite a few hot, sexual tension scenes between Irina and Kirill, as they are strongly attracted to each other, but not willing to admit it even to themselves. Despite being undead, Kirill manages to be a live wire hottie. How Kirill frees Irina from the sleeping spell, which leads to their final passionate resolution, is the dramatic conclusion to the book. Book 3 "Golden Stair" continues the series.
This book was the best part of my morning. I just couldn't stop reading, it made me think of the other series I have read that is very similar to this one. The other series by Marie Hall is very similar to this series. Though this series focuses on five princes and Hall's on the bad boys of the very fairy tales from brothers Grimm. Such as the Mad Hatter and Captain Hook. Each of their own loves complete them in the same way that the women in these books do for each of their princes.
A well written complicated love story. Prince Kirill struggling to obtain a kingdom of his own while trying to ignore his feelings for Irina. Irina is the one person that can help him. Add a evil stepmother into the mix and read what happens next. Fun storyline with interesting characters.
Loved this book! Snow White and a vamp prince...that could happen. I enjoyed Irina’s and Kirill’s love story and hate-passion or rather defiance-love relationship. The way three attempts on her life were retold were ingenious! Recommend for lovers of retold fairytales who love vampire lore.
One power hungry vampire prince and a beloved princess. Passion, magic, and a crazy stepmother. A Snow White retelling that actually goes with the real tale of Snow White. Another great book by Jennifer Blackstream. With great characters and adventure this book was a fast, fun read.
I love the twist on Snow White, and Irena is so full of fire and wants good things for all. She also comes across as naive, but that is part of what attracts Kirill to her. And this prophecy is starting to really intrigue me now, we seem to have bits and pieces.
Den var riktigt bra. Kirill insåg nästan försent att han älskade henne. Men jag älskade att han älskade henne tillräckligt mycket för att fråga de andra prinsarna om hjälp. Eftersom han inte är en person som frågar andra om hjälp.
