DNF 15%

description

I usually try to get to 25% before I DNF a book but it this case it was impossible. I don't demand explicit sex in the books I read because I also love YA and NA and those often don't have that. But when you insist on starting a book with a one night stand then you'd better make that sex scene awesome because it sets the tone for the remaining of the story...

description

The characters had ZERO connection and I only mean that in the lust department because they just met. I wasn't hooked in any way and I had the urge to skip ahead...so instead I did the only sensible thing...I gave up...

A man in New York who made his money through shipping, meets a woman who is a college professor. Not in anything sciencey but women's studies. He thinks she is a challenge and invites her to have sex and for no reason I can see she accepts.

The rest of the book is a runaround of them agreeing to have a no strings fling, him showing up somewhere unexpected, they have sex, one of them leaves, she calls it off and wonders what has become of her dignity, rinse, repeat. There is no tension or personal growth.

We don't learn anything about either shipping or the life of a university professor, though we do see her office, unlike the docks. Towards the end a side plot is introduced regarding another woman and her need to find something out from the ship owner. She finds it out and she goes off to Nice to resolve the issue. We don't know what happens, because the story ends with our original twosome in the next chapter. So it was all just padding as far as this story was concerned.

You may of course enjoy this more than I did. An ARC was supplied to me and this is an unbiased review.

Louise Jensen has come a long way in the world from battered and abused wife to tenured professor of women’s studies at New York’s Columbia University. But when she meets a bad-boy billionaire who fulfills all her sexual fantasies as much as she wants to let him into her heart as well as her bed she’s just too afraid the real her would be a huge turn off for him.
From ex-con to successful entrepreneur, Javien Rodriguez is a self made man who pulled himself up from his tragic youth. When a sexy college professor catches his eye and his libido he knows he’s only good enough to offer her physical enjoyment because if she really knew what he’d been in the past she’d run screaming.

It’s all about forgiveness in Hewitt’s latest romance staring a couple trying to re-build their lives out of the ashes of their tragic pasts. She throws readers right into her lust at first sight story with a steamy affair that really works for her stars, plus it doesn't hurt that the heat between the sheets is explosive. Her street-wise narrative is seductive and really fits the earthiness of her duo, as does her eclectic New York backdrop.

This is part of a trilogy with a story about the missing Harlow’ and a sex trafficking ring, running through the books. Frankly the story made no contribution to the first two books and could have been omitted quite easily.

This is a very different story about two very damaged people coming together and learning to trust each other enough to take the risk of loving each other and committing to a joint future. Whilst there were times when Louise irritated me beyond belief because of her suspicion and unwillingness to see Jaiven’s point of view. However the author did a good job of building her back story and making her behaviour understandable.

I know issues like domestic abuse and sex trafficking are incredibly serious, but quite frankly I don’t read Romances to be in touch with the horrors of the real world. Had I realised that the sex trafficking would run through all the books and be given a thorough airing in Book 3, I would never have bought them.

This is a great story with a hero who is not the traditional jerk but a man whose background totally explains why he is the way he is. His growing love for Louise is beautifully done.

I'm a little torn about this. Louise has insecurities and doubts. Her past was rocky, and now her little sister is getting married. At a party for the engaged couple, she meets Javien who is deeply intrigued by her.

He is used to loving and leaving, but Louise leaves him in bed and he can't get her out of his mind. The story is okay but there is just something missing.

This is what I think is supposed to be the second book in the Forbidden Series. It's not labeled here on goodreads but judging from some of the things that happen in this book and the previous book, I think that this was meant to be the second one.

This story is about Javien and Louise. Javien is a billionaire who operates a shipping company. He's made his way up in life starting on the streets of the Bronx and doing some unsavory things to get by. Louise is a professor of Women's Studies at Columbia University. Louise and Javien meet at Louise's sister Chelsea's engagement party. They feel a mutual attraction and agree to a one night stand. Things begin to change as they start seeing each other more and both of them have to decide if they are willing to be truthful about their pasts and really let down the walls they've been using to keep people at bay.

Louise was a really interesting person, at times she was very strong-willed and knew what she wanted and at other times she seemed very confused. But I liked the dichotomy she presented, as most people in real life have different sides to their personality. Javien was just adorable and I loved how he was just so unbelievably confused about his feelings towards Louise. The romance between them was great and was the best part of the story. The side story of the missing friend fell short in this book and kind of seemed to just be thrown in to connect the last book to the series.

I really liked this one and I'm going to be looking into other books by this author.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.

Lust, fantasies, romance and love – “The Billionaire’s Fantasy” of Javien Rodriguez gets more than he bargained for when he decides to have a one-night stand with Louise Jensen. With a past tainted with street gangs, death and prison time, Javien has made himself into a power-house of running JR Shipping and making more money than he ever dreamed of yet, nothing can erase the guilt of his past.

Louise Jensen has her own demons to fight yet she can’t seem to resist the magnetism of Javien. As wild as the sex is and fulfilling fantasies that she never would have dreamed of, her abusive past stops her from opening herself completely to Javein or make any commitments.

Despite the hang-ups, both can’t seem to stay away from each other. Temptation is stronger than fears, want and need for each other above insecurities and the lure of having someone to care for bring Javien and Louise together.

This is as good a story as it gets. Kate Hewitt shows her writing prowess when she created Javien and Louise as two broken characters with a turbulent relationship. Independent, strong and stubborn, they annoy each other to the point of breakup. Kate keeps the emotions and fears of these two above all as she explores the relationship filled with desire and love.

Of all the three books of The Forbidden Series, this is definitely my favorite and Javien holds a special place with me. Captivating and sizzling, “The Billionaire’s Fantasy” is another captivating read.

O.k...o.k...I know!
Yes, it is yet another billionaire vs. commoner erotica trope.
But before you round up the torches and pitchforks...hear me out!
This is the second offering in the Forbidden series.  A new Special Releases collection from Harlequin.

You will notice that the part about our fair commoner being an unsuspecting ingenue is blissfully absent.
That's right!
She has had sex before!
Hallelujah!
Not only that, but wonder of wonders...she is a full grown woman to boot!

Louise Jensen may be an esteemed professor at Columbia University, but one perusal of her lush curves from across a crowded room, leavens  billionaire shipping magnate, Jaiven Rodriguez, determined to pursue a
very sensual course in Women's Studies.

Things start out as all fun and games for these two, but as the sex intensifies, so do the feelings that the two share.  This leads to some very hard to face truths from both their pasts,  which threaten any hope for their shared future..

Though this book is very sexy, fun, and light for the most part.  It deals with very real issues of body image, spousal abuse, gangs, forgiveness,  and redemption.

Both Louise and Jaiven are very down-to-earth characters,  that you have no problem identifying with and rooting for.

This is the perfect one sitting read for those who like their happily ever afters passionate, playful, and more than a little rough around the edges.

Two broken characters, they both have a past and they can both heal each other.

In this second installment in the Forbidden Series you have Louise and Javien. Louise comes from a horrible marriage where her husband mistreated her. Now she is trying to make her own life and she will not take it when a man tells her what to do. Then you have Javien a young man that had a horrible upbringing. In order for him to feel like he belonged in a family he ended joining a gang and in that gang he did some horrible things. Now he has turned his life around and is a successful businessman. He gives other people that have come out of prison a chance to be able to earn their money with honest work. You have two total opposites but oh my can they come up with some fantasies that can burn up the sheets. But no matter what they both have to tell each other their story.

The Billionaire’s Fantasy was a great read. I loved the development of not only Louise and Javien’s story but also the search for Harlow. Javien was able to help Louise, Nora and Addison know a little bit more what happened to Harlow. The chemistry between these two characters was steaming HOT and they were perfect for each other. I can’t wait to see what Nora finds out in the last installment in this series.

Smart focused female professor and sexy bad boy billionaire? Yes please! The story of Louise and Jaiven starts out well as these two meet at an engagement party for Louise's sister Chelsea. There's an instant attraction between them and when Jaiven offers Louise a chance to indulge in a one-night stand, she can't resist the temptation. Only Jaiven isn't quite ready to let her go after their night together and finds an excuse to see her again. The sex scenes are not overly explicit but still steamy. I liked that the story is told from both points of view and you get a clear sense of Jaiven's past, his insecurities in maintaining committed relationships with women (hence his desire for casual sex)and the fact that Louise is a little more intriguing to him than he bargained for. Louise was an interesting heroine, a little bit awkward, obviously less experienced in the sack but making up for it with her enthusiasm. The mystery of Louise's missing student (the common link behind the Forbidden series) is introduced but not really delved into yet. Looking forward to part 2!

I did enjoy reading this book compare to other Billionaire series.
They are all too short to actually but I can't wait to find out what happens to Louise and Jaiven.
Louise is uptight Columbia professor who doesn't want to risk anything but when she meets Jaiven at a her sister's engagement party, she is changing. She has a one night stand with Jaiven and he couldn't forget about her. Jaiven tracks her down and proposition her for using each other for their needs..
I want to find out what happens to Louise and Jaiven. It was such a cliffhanger at the end, now i have to find out what happens. Is Louise ready for new adventure or she will cave.

thanks to NetGalley for the copy

I've read this book right after The Billionaire's Intern, Book One in The Forbidden Series, and because I was more or less disappointed by the first book, I did not open the second one with much enthusiasm. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised by the story.

Don't get me wrong, the beginning is slow and as one of the previous reviews says, there is no connection between the hero and the heroine, but things get WAY WAY WAY better as you read further. I am a sucker for abused heroines and tortured heroes, the messiness of figuring things out, stepping out of one's comfort zone, growing a pair and reclaiming your life and identity. Both Jaiven and Louise do that. I was really sorry to let their story go as I liked spending my time with them.

After reading the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, I figured I should give this book a try and not listen to the reviews. I have to say I did enjoy the book at the beginning, but about half way through I became a little disappointed. Reviewers say the sex scenes were sizzling and I don't know where they got that idea. Most of the scenes ended with one sentence. Also, I know this is part of a series, but the continuation didn't really go with the story for me. A missing girl who was in one of your classes and a man your doing happens to own a shipping company just didn't fit for me. Lastly I was more interested in their background, but once I found it out, I felt a little left down. Especially Javien's past. Took too long for him to say it and it underwhelmed me.

A Great Read!

I enjoyed reading The Billionaire's Fantasy - Part 1 (The Forbidden Series), all about Louise Jensen & Jaiver Rodrieguez who met at her sisters engagement party. Seems that her fiancé Alex is his BFF since forever. They were both trading looks across the room most of the night, and Jaiver only does One-Night stands, so he's definitely up for that and he's hoping Louise will be as well! The author wrote a very interesting series and the characters made the series come to life. Read this story it will make you laugh, sigh, shake your head & cum up a storm! I enjoyed reading this first part, and can't wait to start reading part two.

Jaiven does not handle blue balls well, “I’m in pain, woman,”Jaiven growled. He reached for the belt of her coat and gave it one swift tug. “You’ve been torturing me for nearly two hours.” Whenever Louise is around Jaiven is always sporting some wood, "did I mention the part about my fantasy where we have sex in a dressing room? Because I’d say that’s definitely within the parameters.” I fell in love with Jaiven yes he has his demons but he's my kind of guy.

Who would of thought that a billionaire play boy and a female professor make such a good story. I loved this one like really this was very different of what I have read in the past. Louise has one wild night with Javien Rodriguez. She thinks that it will be just a one night stand and wild memory. After Javien has her and she left him he wants more. He just can;t have one night with her. The chemistry that they had together and their banter back and forth I enjoyed it.

Javien and Louise's story is an interesting one. Louise is working toward gaining back her sense of self-confidence and Javien is trying to redeem himself after youthful bad decisions he made. The Billionaire's Fantasy-Part 1 is a good start to the series but I found the story too short and rushed. I received this book for an honest review.

Great start to a new series. Jaiven only does one night stands but when he meets Louise and they share a steamy night together, he wants more. Both Jaiven and Louise have plenty of baggage, can the overcome it and find more together? Sexy short read, I liked the characters and the story held my interest. Looking forward to more.

I just can't put my finger on it - this is not as good as the other two in the series and you don't need it for Harlow's rescue. The concept sounded great. Louise is a buttoned up professor complete with chunky glasses. Jaiven is a self-made billionaire with a past. They embark together on a no strings affair that immediately feels like more.

I dont know where to go with this one. First off, Jaiven. Is that Jay-vin? Jaw-vin, haven??? I just called him Jason and quit worrying about it. I liked it but didn't love it. I have read other books about the secondary characters in here so it was nice that i knew what was going on. I will continue the series out of curiosity

A Professor, a Billionaire meet at a wedding. He's used to loving and leaving ladies while she has been hurt more than she can heal, well until he seems to be just what she needs.
If you love romance, this is a short delightful read...and not a complete cliffhanger.
