ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

4.25 stars

My prayers have been answered - I’ve found a RH sequel without second-book-syndrome!! This wasn’t just meaningless pages without plot - instead, it added to the story, was exciting and new, and had COMMUNICATION!!! So much communication!

The characters learned from their mistakes, always tried their best to make up for errors, and grew as a team. They talked to one another and worked together, and each of them had a role and a unique personality.

Our protagonist was strong and human, and she spent much of the book trying her best to break down her own walls and learn to lean on others. The mmcs were flawed but dedicated to the team, and I’m excited to see how they continue to befriend one another.

The plot was interesting - I don’t know who to trust, or where it could be going, but I’m excited to find out!

Such an addictive, entertaining, rewarding sequel. Equally exciting as book #1 but it wasn’t just a meaningless addition to the series - we had major character and relationship growth! (Also communication! Have I mentioned that?).

Thank you so much to the author for the ARC, I can’t wait for book #3!

I was lucky enough to get an arc read of this book-What an ending! This series is definitely one I’m excited to keep reading.

It starts off right where book 1 ended which was an amazing cliffhanger. Something about the FMC really has me rooting for her. She’s strong, smart, and does not make dumb decisions just for the sake of moving the plot forward. She learns from her mistakes and it’s so refreshing!

Also most of the secrets she kept from book 1 get brought to light and i love that. Goodbye secret trope. It’s resolved! Mostly.

One thing i wanted more from this book was more romantic and sexual tension between Elodie and her matches. It’s a why choose- and i almost forgot that here. I definitely enjoyed the first book sexual tension more than the scenes in this 2nd book, but there’s a huge plot focus which i love too.

Regardless I can’t wait to read the next one!

i am so thankful i got to be an arc reader for this book! genuinely i took my arc reading role so seriously i was LOCKED in lol. that being said, i’ll give spoiler free for the first few paragraphs and then i need to say my thoughts/theories so there will be spoilers!

end of book 1 was the unexpected bonding between eloide and her matches. in book 2 eloide is navigating how to solve her continued murder attempts while keeping everyone she cares about safe. we get a lot of spicy scenes and watch eloide refall in love with her matches. we get lots of humor from salvatore and unexpected die hard dedication from the other matches. cole is still an ass, but he won me back.

i really enjoy this series because elodie is such a capable fmc. she doesn’t need anyone else and she can protect herself. however, she is also strong enough that she is able to depend on and trust others. the way she can navigate building relationships while trying to stay alive is truly impressive.

the mmcs in this book are soooo good omg. salvatore is so hot and funny and protective and ughhh so good! the rest of the men are also protective and obsessed with elodie (as they should be).

if book 1 had you hooked, you should def keep reading this series! i was definitely just as hooked in this sequel as i was in book 1!

the rest of this review is going to contain SPOILERS!

——————————————————————————————

first of all, let’s talk elodie. i love how powerful and badass she is. i love how she does not run away from problems, but instead tackles them head on. i enjoyed her coming to the realization that she has people she can trust and fall on in this book instead of doing it all on her own. i do think at times she was stupid, especially in book 1 (aren’t we all though). i think she needs to be less trusting of her dad and aunt daphne though for sure. i really like her funny bits in her head that showed dark humor. i hope we get more of that in book 3! i love a fmc who can handle herself in a fight and does not rely on men to protect her, and protects herself. i love her loyalty to her matches and how she works so hard to make them all feel seen and cared for. the girl can balance work and play that’s for sure.

okay salvatore is my favorite match. i love how funny, protective, and ride or die he is. i also loveee an obsessed man and him always stalking her is so hot. i also just love a bad boy. byron is second fav. his morality is sometimes annoying, but i love his protectiveness as well. his spicy scenes are all super good and i love the obsession he has for elodie! asher third and cole fourth. asher just was nothing to write home about in this one. i think next book he will be better. cole really was pissing me off at the beginning, but he grew on me. i did think his hotel scene was cute, but i need him to get over the whole “i’m still your professor” stick lol. all in all i like all of them and i LOVE how they put their differences aside to take care of their girl. UGH that was so cute of them!

what i really liked about this book was elodie finally putting aside the guilt to build new relationships with these men. the speaking to her past matches bit was interesting, but i thought it was a good addition because in the first book i felt so bad for them. it sounds like the past matches didn’t treat her the best though, so i am very happy to see these matches treat her amazing. i love how protective they are over her without taking away her choices. i HATE in books when the mmcs takes away the fmc free will, so i was really happy elodie kinda stayed the boss in this dynamic.

side note, stella is lowkey growing on me. i hope she’s not secretly evil. also i have a really bad feeling about aunt daphne for some reason. she is shady asf

okay conspiracy theory about what i think is actually going on. i think uncle nik and his little group are at war with gwyn and her group. i think both groups are radiants and were all a part of one group. i think elodie was born from two very powerful bloodlines and when that happened, the group was divided on whether to kill her or to use her for some other purpose. i think uncle niks group are still probably evil and just want to use elodie as their weapon. alternatively, the other group knows how powerful she could become so they are threatened by her and want her dead.

elodies mom in her past life being so shady about her family is weirdddd. it’s giving that she comes from a very powerful/dangerous family and she ran away with elodie to keep her safe and hide her from them. i do think uncle nik truly comes from her moms side of the family and could very well be related to elodie.

basically, i think everyone is secretly evil but elodies matches lol. i can’t wait to see what asher’s powers are next book and i hope we finally get all the answers and solve the mystery.

(side note: being an arc reader is so exhilarating omg i hope i can do this like 100000 more times)

I was so excited to get to do an immersive audio and ebook read for this one! Thank you so much, Eva Chase for the ARC and ALC!

I loved book one. The unique magic, the alternate universe, the secrets, the four smokin hot fated mates, the academy setting, all of it!

This book had all of that but it built onto it and made it even better! I love the growth of Elodie’s character in this book. Kind of making this life her own, making peace with her life now. I loved getting to know the guys better! Learning more about her past and how hard it was on her to have so many secrets and to be used like she was.

The spice kicks it up a notch in this one too 🔥 and I can’t wait for it to keep building! Their magic is so unique and interesting! I’m dying to know what Asher is going to end up with! I think auntie has some explaining to do as well, seems fishy haha

This is a really fun read. I am excited for the mystery to be revealed, and to see what’s going to happen next! For them to fully bond and embrace their partnership!

I absolutely loved Blood & Bloom, and somehow Shine & Shadows managed to raise the bar even higher.

Book one introduced us to Elodie after she’s pulled into an alternate version of her world and tasked with solving her own murder. Book two picks up immediately afterward as she tries to unravel who killed the other Elodie, protect her mates, determine who she can trust, accept that she may never return to her own world, and learn how to survive in a version of reality that’s familiar yet fundamentally different.

One of my favorite aspects of this sequel is that Eva Chase doesn’t simply have Elodie move on from her original world. Instead, the three years she spent with her original mates continue to shape every decision she makes. Rather than pretending that part of her life never existed, she uses everything she learned to help protect the mates in this world.

I especially loved how she awakened Bryon’s and Cole’s glims. Because she already knew the versions of them from her own world, she was able to guide them through the process in a way that felt safer and more personal. Salvatore’s birthday was another standout moment—it was such a sweet reminder that she hasn’t forgotten where she came from while still allowing herself to build something new.

I also appreciated that Elodie continued “talking” to her original mates in her head. Her gradual acceptance that, if she truly can’t return home, they would want her to embrace the life in front of her was surprisingly emotional.

Now let’s talk about Cole.

Yes, he spends much of book one—and the beginning of this one—being an ass. But honestly? I’m glad he finally confronted Elodie about keeping so many secrets. How he went about it wasn’t great, but he forced a conversation that probably wouldn’t have happened for a long time otherwise. What surprised me most wasn’t Cole’s reaction—it was everyone else’s. Once the truth was out, the four mates didn’t hesitate to accept it. Instead, they immediately decided they wanted to be better than the versions from her original world. Salvatore’s response had me laughing more than once, and once Cole finally accepted both the bond and how poorly he’d treated her, watching him swing completely in the opposite direction was incredibly satisfying and produced a few ‘aaaah’ moments. Now he just needs to get over the whole “I’m her professor” mindset.

Asher remains the biggest mystery of the group. Unlike the others, Elodie doesn’t have three years of memories with him as a mate—only their previous friendship. That makes him the wild card, and I cannot wait to see his story unfold. I’m hoping book three finally brings his glim awakening so all of the bonds can fully develop. I feel like he’s going to be key to resolving the mystery.

While all of this relationship development is happening, the mystery never slows down. Elodie is still trying to uncover who murdered the other Elodie while surviving attack after attack herself. There were so many twists that I honestly lost count of how many attempts were made on her life. The suspense stayed high throughout the entire book, and several reveals genuinely surprised me.

And that ending…

Yes, it’s a massive cliffhanger—but it’s exactly the kind I love because it left my brain racing with theories instead of simply feeling frustrated.

⚠️ Spoiler Theories Below ⚠️

1. I think the Radiants were originally one organization that split into two factions because of Elodie and the incredible power they believe she possesses. One side wants her dead, while the other seems determined to keep her alive—though I’m still not convinced their motives are entirely noble.
2. I’m convinced Elodie is at least half Radiant herself. We know almost nothing about her mother in either world, and that feels far too intentional. My current theory is that her mother was a Radiant who fell in love with a Lucent, making Elodie the very thing both factions are fighting over.
3. I also don’t fully trust Aunt Daphne. I think she knows much more than she’s admitting. I don’t necessarily believe she’s working with the Radiants, but that mysterious two-week disappearance still feels incredibly suspicious.

December 2026 can’t get here fast enough because I need book three.

Thank you, Eva Chase, for trusting me with an ARC copy of Shine & Shadows. It was an absolute joy to read, and I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to be part of your ARC team again in the future.

Oh and the AUDIO!??? PERRRRFECTION!!!!! I’m a puddle!

I need to go gather myself. Brb
🥵

—————————————————

Ok, now that I have time to process:

Let me just start by saying that I could easily write a dissertation of why I love this series so much but, for your sake, I’m going to try and keep it brief. 😅

Shine and Shadow is Book 2 of The Second Fate of Elodie Divine Series. It navigates the life and choices of Elodie Divine after she was basically plucked from her reality to be thrown into a different one. In this alternate reality she is living the complete opposite of what was going on in her real one (not that this one is any less real).

In book 2, Elodie is dealing with the aftermath of book 1 and it’s is such a journey!!! I knew I was going to love this book. Eva Chase has a way to write, that I knew, I just knew this book was 100% for me. I am a sucker for why choose, rejected mates, unique magic system, age gap, “he’s her PROFESSOR”, murder mystery, good plot-great spice and of course, emotional damage and this book hit all the right spots and so many more. I devoured it and if you’re like me and these tropes call to you, you’ll love this series too and will most likely binge it as well. It was impossible not to when every chapter ended in a way that it was a NEED to continue with the next.

Ok now the Audio:

I had the absolute pleasure to receive an ALC from Eva Chase and I have so much to say!!

The narrators are one of the most versatile out there. Genuinely, I was entranced by how well the portrayal of the different characters and dialogues was. Rose Dioro did a phenomenal job with Elodie and the other female characters from the book; she just blew me away. Same with Stephen Dexter!! Omg! They both did so good, performance wise. There’s only 2 narrators but it felt like a whole cast. As I was listening, I was 100% sure of which character was “talking” just because of how well they portrayed each one. The emotional weight they put into the dialogue, the different tones and even accents, it only served to enhance the whole experience. Chef kiss! Rose and Stephen have become a favorite duo of mine. If they both narrate more books together (or even alone), I’ll read them in a heart beat. 🫶🏻

I was so enthralled with the story, their performances, the whole situation going on that I didn’t even noticed that I was on the last page. My only sign was the audio saying “Shine and Shadow…” (End Credits) and then I felt like I was being unplugged from the matrix.

It was so good. So, so, so good! It kept me engaged, entertained, focused!! Elodie’s monologues and internal emotional war was top! Same with the MMC’s.

And because I said I was going to keep it “brief” (LOL) I’m going to stop here, but know that I have a million more great things to say about this book (and series in general) and will probably not shut up about it any time soon.

Huge thanks to Eva Chase for the opportunity to be part of her ARC & ALC Team and read/listen to Shine and Shadow ahead of its release. I am forever fortunate and greatful for the honor.

All thoughts are my own.

🌟Shine & Shadow 🌒 (The Second Fate of Elodie Devine, Book 2) by Eva Chase

😄 Holy Cannoli Batman, What a Ride! 🚕 Eva Chase Does It Again! 😄

If you thought Book 1 (Bloom & Blood) was a wild ride, buckle up your seat belts honey, because Shine & Shadow takes us on a high-speed chase! As this was an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) directly from Booksirens, I was blessed enough to snag this amazing second book before the masses (na-na na-na boo-boo😜)!

Booksters let me tell you—Eva Chase never fails to deliver! 😄 She is easily one of my absolute favorite authors, and this book is proof of her storytelling magic. Nonstop shenanigans, I mean it - there is never a dull moment.

🔮 The Plot & The Drama: Double the Universes, Double the Danger!:

After Elodie’s Aunt Daphne thrusts her into an alternate reality, Elodie is forced to impersonate her deceased counterpart. She has to navigate:

• Caddy Female "Friends" (honestly, can we even call them friends? More like vapid, shallow, entitled airheads)

• Conspiracies, plots, and murder attempts in not one, but two universes! 🕵️‍♀️

• Four unsuspecting fated matches who are morally grey, completely swoon-worthy, and yearning their hearts out. 😄

In this second installment, Elodie, Salvatore, Colson, Byron, and Asher embark on a thrilling journey to discover what their newfound bonded life can actually look like. Together, they are discovering their Glims, navigating school, and growing their relationships both mentally and physically—all while hiding their intense bonds from the other players on the board.

💞 Emotional Growth & Steamy Bonds:

What truly shines in this book is the honesty and openness that begins to bloom between the bonds. Elodie has historically been a major secret-keeper (which previously caused a massive amount of strife, guilt, and issues in her other life, largely due to her secrets surrounding what she did to Asher and Uncle Nik’s toxic influence).
Seeing Elodie learn to let down her guard, rely on her men, and let them love her is pure magic. 😄 They are truly learning what it takes to build a real family together!

🎧 Audiobook Lovers, Take Note!
I purchased the audiobook for Book 1 on Audible, and the narrators did an absolutely spectacular job bringing this story to life! 🎙️✨ I seriously cannot wait until the Audible version of Shine & Shadow drops because I will be adding it to my collection the second it goes live!

😱 That Cliffhanger Though...

This book is incredibly well-written, fast-paced, and absolutely action-packed. But oh my goodness, that cliffhanger! 😭 There are some massive, mind-blowing reveals at the very end that left my jaw on the floor. I am now in a state of desperate, burning need to continue on with Book 3, Blight & Bond!

My Rating: 5/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (and a million 😄 smiles!)
If you love tangled mate bonds, supernatural mysteries, and fierce heroines and murder plots, you need to start this series immediately!

Some books entertain me. Some books stay with me.
Shine & Shadow did both. 🖤✨

When a book makes me cry more than once, I know it has completely captured my heart. This sequel was packed with raw emotions, heartbreaking moments, hope, love, fear, and unwavering loyalty. I felt every single emotion alongside Elodie and her men, and by the time I reached the final page, I was already desperate for the next book. 😭📖

Picking up immediately after the shocking ending of book one, Elodie was forced to face the consequences of finally revealing who she truly was. Torn from her own reality and given a second chance in another world, she had barely begun to understand the tangled mate bonds connecting her to these morally grey men. Now everyone knew she was the core of their union, and with powerful enemies still hunting her, there was little time to process the truth before survival became the priority. 🌑⚔️

One of my favorite parts of this book was watching the relationships slowly evolve. ❤️ The trust wasn’t instant, and that’s exactly why it felt so rewarding. These men came from completely different worlds and had every reason to distrust one another, yet little by little they chose to stand together because protecting Elodie became more important than their differences. Watching them lean on each other, find strength in each other, and slowly become something resembling a family made my heart so full. 🥹✨

The mystery also deepened in the best way. Every answer uncovered seemed to create two more questions, and I loved constantly trying to piece everything together. The danger never disappeared, the stakes kept climbing, and I genuinely had no idea where the story was heading next. Eva Chase kept me completely hooked from beginning to end. 🔥🖤

And the emotions… wow. 😭 There were scenes that absolutely shattered me. Others made me smile so hard because of the quiet moments of comfort, trust, and affection between the characters. The emotional balance was beautiful, and it reminded me why I love character-driven fantasy so much.

This officially became my favorite book in the series so far. Every character felt more layered, every relationship became more meaningful, and the world expanded in ways that made me even more invested. I loved getting to know everyone better, and I never wanted to leave them. 💙

Then came that ending.

Excuse me… I needed book three immediately. Right now. This second. I wasn’t prepared to be left wanting more this badly. 😭📚

Perfect for readers who love:
🖤 Why Choose / Reverse Harem
✨ Fated mates
⚔️ Urban fantasy with high stakes
🩶 Morally grey heroes who absolutely yearn
🔥 Slow-building romance
🫶 Found family and emotional healing
💖 Protective love interests
🕵️ Mystery woven into the fantasy plot
🌙 Strong heroine getting a second chance
😭 Emotional, character-driven stories that will make you cry

Thank you so much to Eva Chase for the ARC opportunity. It was an absolute pleasure to continue Elodie’s journey, and I cannot wait to see where this incredible series goes next. ❤️

Thanks Eva & BookSirens for the eARC! 💕

I loved Bloom & Blood and wasn't sure if Shine & Shadow would be able to live up to my expectations but it did! We're keeping up the pace and going straight down to the nitty-gritty. 🔥

Elodie sparked her match, and everyone involved has to come to terms with it. The tension between Elodie and Bryon as well as Elodie and Cole was through the roof before, but how will they adapt to this new revelation? Will Elodie ever be able to look at Asher without being reminded of losing him?
And beyond that: how much of the truth will she be able to share with them? Who is she?
I had so many questions going in, and Eva provides answers to all of them! 💖👏

There's so much more plot in here than I could have ever hoped for, AND things get spicy with Elodie and her matches! 👀

What I love most about Elodie is her growth! In her past life she carried a lot of regret and shame, and she's trying to move on and handle things differently with her new matches. It requires a level of maturity typically unheard of in a 20 y/o MC, but her past forced her to grow up fast and she's trying to do better by the guys by taking their feelings into account and communicating with them, instead of being stubborn and creating unnecessary drama. *chef's kiss*

The guys are fantastic, Tore was my favorite at the end of Bloom & Blood and still is, but I cannot get over the fact how different they all are, yet working together to protect Elodie from whoever is after her. The guys' unique personalities is an absolute selling point of this series, I have yet to encounter another RH where they're so well developed - typically the men are only different on surface level. 🤯

Yes, I do wonder how after being with her matches for three years none of them have ever seen her chest (I guess match magic makes them just accept it blindly, because the trauma excuse seems weak)? But that's my only critical remark. 😌

A huge thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

After finishing the first book, I couldn't wait to jump back into Elodie's story, and Shine & Shadow absolutely delivered. This sequel raises the stakes in every way, blending mystery, romance, and urban fantasy into an addictive continuation that kept me hooked from start to finish.

One of my favorite aspects of this installment was watching Elodie's growth. She's carrying the weight of two lives, impossible decisions, and a future she desperately wants to protect, making her journey both emotional and inspiring. I loved seeing her become more confident while still remaining vulnerable enough to feel incredibly relatable.

The relationships were another standout. The bonds between Elodie and her fated mates continue to deepen, and I appreciated that each relationship develops in its own unique way. The chemistry, emotional tension, and heartfelt moments all felt genuine, adding plenty of depth without overshadowing the larger plot.

The mystery surrounding the conspiracy becomes even more compelling in this book, with twists that kept me guessing and revelations that made me eager to keep turning the pages. The blend of magic, suspense, romance, and action felt well-balanced, making it difficult to put the book down.

There were a few moments where the pacing eased slightly while new pieces of the story were being established, which is the only reason this wasn't quite a five-star read for me. However, the emotional payoff, character development, and exciting ending more than made up for it.

Overall, Shine & Shadow is a fantastic sequel that builds beautifully on everything established in book one while leaving me desperate to continue the series.

And just like that… Yet another case of the ARC reader blues. Having to wait for the next book is going to be torture. After the ending of Bloom & Blood, I couldn't wait for the sequel. The bonds. The matches. The parallel universes. Every part of this book had me flipping pages so fast, that I finished the book in one sitting. I was lucky enough to be able to do an immersive tandem read, and the duet narration was PHENOMENAL! Rose Dioro & Stephen Dexter did such a fantastic job at bringing these characters to life. I loved how Stephen voiced the different MMC’s. This book was such an emotional ride of high-stakes mystery filled with secrets and hidden truths. Elodie is so torn between her matches in her universe and the parallel universe that she has been pulled into. I loved diving deeper into the different glims and the magic system, and the twists and turns had me hooked. I can’t wait for the chaos and mystery that will come with next book!

I really enjoyed Bloom and Blood with it's unique plot and magic system! Shine and Shadow dives right back in from THAT ending!

In this series we get:
🌹Why Choose
🌹Fates Mates
🌹Hidden Identity
🌹Murder Mystery
🌹Magical Academy
🌹Touch Her and 🪦

So we're thrust back into this story with everyone having just found out they're bonded. Of course it's not that simple as not all of them are happy about their bond to Elodie to start with, especially a certain grumpy professor 👀

Along with navigating their new bond they now have to find out what their new powers are that have come from the bonding!

Also let's not forget they're also still investigating who's trying to kill Elodie, whilst she's still hiding the truth of who she really is too!

I love a why choose and this one is written so well with our four bonded!! So we get the grumpy professor, his younger brother, a mafia heir and her biggest school rival, the tension and spice between them as their bond builds is delicious and boy do we get some spicy scenes 🔥🔥

This book had me locked in with so much going on! We start to find out more about who's targeting Elodie, I was suspecting everyone 😂 There's secrets to uncover and plenty of action as she fights for her life against various enemies! With parts of her past life and this current Elodie's life linking together in unexpected ways!!

I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see what comes next!! Thank you to Eva for the gifted copy for review 🫶🏻

This was a great sequel that kept me on my toes the whole time!

We start out this book right after the ending of the first book. Elodie has sparked her match with Salvatore, and now all her other matches know she is the core of their union. Now she has a lot to explain - or explain as well as someone ripped from her reality and put into theirs can. Elodie and her matches are already drawn together on their own, but they are all from different social circles and normally don't work together. All that is about to change here once they start taking it seriously that Elodie is in danger, and we still don't know how has it out for her.

I loved seeing Elodie and her matches start to open up to each other more in this book. The trust is still rocky between all of them, but it is slowly starting to grow more and more. Elodie starts to wake up some of their glim, and they eventually find out some things about her, but the more they find out and the more they put their heads together about who has it out for Elodie, more questions arise. However, seeing them work together towards the common goal - pleasing Elodie - ohhhweee do I love to see it. The guys may still not be to sure of each other, but for Elodie they come together and it's so fine.

I love a good why choose/reverse harem, and this series is shaping up to be no different! The ending of this book wasn't as big of a cliff as the first book's was, but I will for sure be picking up the third book as soon as it comes out! I need more answers!

I absolutely devoured this book!! I loved the first book Blood & Bloom, but somehow Shine & Shadows managed to raise the bar even higher!

This second book picks up immediately after Elodie has sparked her match with Salvatore, and now all her other matches know she is the core of their union. I love the dynamic of the group and especially how the guys mention how they didn’t feel anything until our Elodie came in from another reality.

One of my favorite aspects of this sequel is that Eva Chase doesn't simply have Elodie move on from her original world.
Instead, the three years she spent with her original mates continue to shape every decision she makes. Rather than pretending that part of her life never existed, she uses everything she learned to help protect there guys in this reality.

especially loved how she awakened Bryon's and Cole's glims.
Because she already knew the versions of them from her own world, she was able to guide them through the process in a way that felt safer and more personal. I’m not one to pick favorites but I think Cole is my favorite especially when he had her confess EVERYTHING!! The fact that she felt better talking with these mates than her original says A LOT!!

I love that the mystery never slows down and that is still their goal on finding who killed Elodie. But also that sexual tension 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Byron and Salvatore 🥵 I am excited to see Asher’s glim!

And that ending...
Yes, it's a massive cliffhanger-but it's perfect because it keeps me guessing what is going to happen next!!

This series is going to be one of my top favorites, I can tell. This one was just fab and un-put-down-able!

The second book picks up right where the first one ends (so you definitely need to read in order) and it does not let up until the end!

I LOVE the premise of this - Elodie is transported to a parallel world where the Elodie of that world has been murdered. The magic system comes from sparking with your match and awakening your power, so you aren't allowed to touch anyone without risking that glim activation. So Elodie has to navigate trying to figure out who is killing her and having just matched with the same men she already knows from her other life.

I really loved getting to know her men more in this one, getting to see the relationships grow and develop. I love that each guy brings something different to the group, all have different personalities. But they are all united by one shared goal - protect and love Elodie. I love Asher's sweetness, Byron's determination, and I'm not sure if Salvatore or Cole is my top guy right now but they're all so great. I am really glad that Cole stepped things up in this one.

They all need to work together to find out who is trying to harm Elodie. I loved the path this one took and I'm READY for the next book!

(Also I can't wait to find out what Asher's glim is! Since they didn't get to find out what his glim was in Elodie's world, it's a surprise for everyone lol)

I received an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review

Thank you to Eva for entrusting me with a beautiful physical copy and ALC!

Shine & Shadow by Eva Chase
The Second Fate of Elodie Devine book 2
Releases 7/29!

Duet narration by Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter
Holy smokes Rose and Stephen continue to do such an amazing job with this story! They are fantastic with the many character voices and I just love listening to them! They brought these characters to life and gave them so much emotion to make my reading experience even better as I was mostly reading this as an immersive read! Audio note: My brain needs faster speeds for audio and this narration/recording sounded great at higher speeds.

Dark academia
Multiple POV
Why choose MFMMM
Found family
Underdog FMC
Alternate/parallel universe
MSecrets
Fated mates
Hidden identity
Banter
Touch her and find out
Rivals to lovers
Professor x student (she is 20)
Interesting magic system and magics

I completely devoured this book today! I really enjoy these characters and I adored them coming together more in this book to make their found family! Ah! All Eloise's matches are just too good and love them all and the different things each of them is dealing with. There is definitely spice, but not as much as you are probably guessing with a why choose! We actually still have some slow burns happening! We also learned a lot more about Elodie's heartbreaking history and what led her to where she is now. And the ending! I wasn't paying attention to how much time I had left at the end of the audio and when it ended I said nooooo out loud. So, Eva, I need the next book!!!

Why choose
Fated bonds
Murder Mystery
Elemental powers.

The plot thickens, the bond has been sparked, and the spice is spicing.

We pick up right where we left off in Bloom and Blood. The mystery of who is trying to ☠️Elodie is just ramping up. As she tries to keep her matches at arm length ,they all keep finding their way to her, (and yes that includes my favorite broody professor). It’s not long before she realizes that pushing them away is not the answer.

When Elodie finally decides to tell her truths- these men STEP UP. They are all so faithful and protective and so in awe of her. We definitely get some competition and rivalry from the men but at the end of the day their priority is Elodie.

I liked learning more about their powers and seeing them in use. We get a lot of training scenes that were able to showcase their strengths and weaknesses.

I will say while we did learn some things, there are definitely still a lot of unanswered questions in this book. Who’s out to get her and WHY and are her two realities more connected than she thinks! After finishing this book, I don’t know who to trust and I can’t figure out what the endgame is. All I know is we are one step closer to watching Cole fall! ( can you tell he’s my favorite?)

Until then “I have all I need. I have all I need”

✨ Why Choose
💙 Magic Academy
✨ Fated Mates
💙 Hidden Identity
✨ Murder Mystery
💙 Touch Her & ☠️

The narrators absolutely brought this story to life. Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter were incredible, but I have to give Stephen Dexter a special shoutout. He had the huge task of voicing all of the different male leads, and somehow managed to give each of them a distinct voice and personality. It made following every relationship so easy and made the listening experience even more immersive.

This is exactly how you do a second book in a series. 👏 I was already hooked after book one, but this one raised the bar in every way.

I loved watching Elodie slowly open up to her matches and learn to trust them. The mystery had me constantly questioning everyone’s motives, trying to figure out who was truly on her side and who was hiding something. The relationships continued to develop in such a satisfying way, and the bonds between Elodie and some of the men grew even stronger.

And that final stretch? Absolute chaos in the best possible way. The action never let up, and that cliffhanger was downright criminal. I need the next book immediately because I have way too many questions that need answers!

This is turning out to be my favourite series by Eva Chase to date.

The jig is up and the guys now know that they're Elodie's matches. Some of the guys accept that more than others. But there's still so much that she's hiding from them.

She's fighting to keep herself safe, her men safe, investigate who it is that's out to get her, and it's a lot for one person to bear alone, especially since she's still pretending to be "Old Elodie" from the world she now lives in. Finally, after pressure from one of the guys demanding the truth from her and seeing all of them fight each other, she breaks and tells them who she is and where she came from. It's a lot to take in, but when she reveals things to each of them that no one else knows, it sinks in that she's telling the truth.

Their acceptance of this and their willingness to help her with her investigations and to watch out for her, no matter the danger, proves to her that they really are all in and care about her.

We're left guessing who could be involved in these plots, who is friend and who is foe, and what's going to happen next. I'm loving of her relationships with the guys and seeing them each develop at different paces.

I didn't want this book to end at all, and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

An Addictive Continuation

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Shine & Shadow was such a great continuation of the series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first book. Every chapter seemed to reveal something new, and the story kept me completely invested from beginning to end. There were so many twists and developments that I never wanted to put it down.

I'm definitely continuing this series because I need answers! I'm especially curious to learn the truth about Elodie's uncle... and the rest of her family, I suppose. I also can't wait to find out what Asher's glim will be. Eva keeps introducing mysteries that only make me more eager to keep reading.

I absolutely adore this group of characters. All of the guys are amazing, but Salvatore has completely stolen my heart!

One thing I hope the next books deliver is Elodie getting to unleash some of everything she's been holding back. After all she's suffered, I'm more than ready to see her get justice and a bit of well-earned vengeance.

And that ending... I'm still in shock. I genuinely did not expect it, and now I need the next book as soon as possible!

I received an advance review copy (ARC) of this book, and this review reflects my honest opinion.

I was so honoured and felt extremely lucky to receive an early review copy of Shine & Shadow, the second instalment in The Second Fate of Elodie Devine series!

When i tell you the stakes were HIGH but my expectations after Book 1 were higher. I LOVED book 1 and sprinted headfirst into book 2 with high hopes and excitement… it did NOT DISAPPOINT!! I may even argue that book 2 was better!?!?

I loved Eva’s writing and continuation of Elodie’s story, continuing straight on from Book 1, it was perfect and really expanded on the character arcs that started forming towards the end of the first book. The MMCs REALLY stole my heart in this book and my favourite changed?? (I won’t say who) I love how Eva wrote the characters, each very different and unique but all sharing the same underlying protectiveness and loyalty to Elodie, no matter the stage of acceptance/love!

Elodie’s strength really shone in this book and I cannot wait to see how her character continues to develop and grow in the next book of this wonderful series.

Thank you again to Eva, you are incredible. This review is my honest, personal opinion of the book 🤍 20/10. Incredible story, incredible characters, big feelings.

Wow. Just...wow. This book absolutely devoured me. It was insane and incredible in all the best ways. After all the tension in book 1, I was incredibly relieved that a few things happened in this book. (Thank you, Cole!!!) Everything is working out in such an immensely satisfying way.

All but the murder mystery, of course! That's only growing, becoming bigger and more concerning. Just when Elodie makes progress on unravelling it, it just keeps getting worse.

The ending wasn't as bad as I was bracing for, thank goodness. But I'm still DYING to keep going with the next book! One twist I expected. The other I DEFINITELY did not. (Though looking back...there was one single clue dropped, but I devoured this book WAY too fast to linger on anything and speculate, lol. And honestly I'm still waiting for the other shoe to fall with one more person...)

The steamy connection between Elodie and her matches is growing quickly, but still not as fast as this mystery! Kudos to the author, this series is truly amazing and one-of-a-kind! I adore it and am completely obsessed!!

I received a copy prior to the book's release and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

So very excited to be apart of the arc team for this!

I legit was begging the universe to be able to read this early and the universe delivered.

Elodie goes through it in this book, constantly questioning every choice she’s making and wondering if it’s the wrong choice for her mates.
Her mates do make it hard for her to believe she’s making the right choices with all their bickering. But I like how after everything that happens they put their differences aside to center her and make sure she knows SHE IS WHAT THEY WANT.
Also I believe wholeheartedly I’m an Asher girlie. I can’t wait to see what more we can unlock with him. Cole is winning me over though with his sheer stubbornness.
Salvatore is in close running for second though just cause his loyalty has always been so unwavering. I love that she can legit do no wrong in his eyes. Like if she chose to be evil he would also become evil just for her.
Not that she’d ever do that. She’s got a moral compass and is more a guardian than she realizes.

In this book you find out quite a bit but than near the end your hit with even more questions cause dang that was a reveal of I’d ever read one.

All in all I loved this book.

Okay wow, I don’t really even know where to start?

Firstly, thank you to Eva Chase for the ARC of Shine & Shadow. Not only is it an honour to get to read this early, it’s a true joy to do it for someone as talented as you.

Shine & Shadow perfectly follows along its predecessor with some real face paced action, a lot of character building and some tasty spice.

Elodie, Asher, Cole, Byron and Salvatore are on the hunt for the people trying to kill her, who have already succeeded in killing this universe’s Elodie, unknowingly to everyone else. Things get tense, friends become suspects, and secrets are revealed.

Elodie is one of those FMC’s that actually feel relatable (you know, if you took away the powers). She has flaws, and knows she does, but she also is so strong and powerful inside and out. She doesn’t rely on her men to solve her problems, but can also accept when she needs to ask for help.

I cannot imagine the pain I am going to be in waiting for the third instalment, because that ending? I am foaming at the mouth to solve the mystery.

Five stars, I would give it more if that was digitally possible.

I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. I love how the story has progressed. This has been quite the slow burn and I love the concept with the fated matches and need to wear gloves. This book gives us a better perspective of how the world is and I love the depth of world building in this series. I confess that in book one I felt the struggle that Elodie had to deal with. The emotional stress and sorrow about leaving her original matches behind. It broke my heart her situation in the first place. Her loss of Asher from the beginning. I found it intriguing the differences between the versions of the guys and how they reacted and dealt with the matching. It was more difficult on her in her original world. The guys are interesting with their behavior towards Elodie, especially Salvatore. But I adore all of the guys. This book ends on a sort of cliffhanger, at least we learn some intense things and wow, I cannot wait for the next book to come out already. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and book one Bloom and Blood. The narrators were fantastic and I really feel like they bring the characters to life and give the story depth.

I devoured this book! I'm so thankful that I received an arc for this because the first book's cliffhanger killed me. This one picks right back up where the other left off after she sparked her matches. I love the murder mystery aspect of this series. It kept me anxiously guessing at what was going to happen but managed to keep me completely surprised. I'm so so glad that this isn't a total miscommunication troupe. The characters all have actual growth and development. They learn from their mistakes and actually make amends and change their ways for the better. I love the worldbuilding and how each of the mmc glims are so different and really cool. Each character has a distinct voice so there was no turning back to chapter titles to figure out who pov was happening. I like that the fmc is strong and badass in her own way without being "the most amazing person in existence". She has flaws and limits and acknowledges them. I love each mmc but Salvatore is my favorite even though that's only because I have a soft spot for psychos. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Filled with secrets, secrets and more secrets, Shine and Shadow is just as addictive as the first book in the series.

We are finally starting to see character growth from Elodie and all her men. We are getting more time with them and seeing the parallels and differences between her original men and the men of her current universe.

I was very one sided in my affection for the men in Bloom and Blood and that is no longer the case.

There is a depth to this installment of the story that wasn't there in the first one and it has me more invested than ever. There is a lot of vulnerability throughout and I found myself liking the characters even more for it.

While plot lines are being revealed and starting to come together, there are still so many things left unknown and at what point I was floored by certain revelations.

Eva Chase will definitely keep you guessing with this one. I'm excited to see what she has in store for this story and these characters.

Thank you to Eva Chase and her team for the e-ARC.
