Would you like to avoid the #1 regret of people on their deathbed? "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." You'll be taken through a process to uncover the courageous person you're meant to be, allowing you to love who you are, live true to yourself and feel strong enough to carve your own path in life. This book is based on REAL LIFE experiences of the author and his clients, not on research done to rats or focus groups desperately trying to prove an already-determined point. I will lay it all on the table so you can learn from our victories, our screw-ups and our embarrassing moments. Get ready to build the kind of life that makes you want to jump out of bed and dance to the radio.
I am not into self-help books to be perfectly honest, but this was in a stack of books and thought I would give it a go. As I haven’t read any other books like this, don’t have a direct comparison to make…but certainly attended my share of “meetings” and training sessions over my working career to know most of the concepts. To me the author does a wonderful job of using humour and reflecting on his own personal experiences to elaborate on the techniques to be used to become a better “me”. There are also reminders of negative words/thoughts we all say and have, which hold us back from becoming better. I really liked the way that after the words were introduced, the words were still used in the rest of the book to demonstrate our common thinking…but were “crossed out” and the more empowering words were used instead. Have never really seen that used in a book before but really appreciated how it subtly helped to reinforce to overall messages that he was conveying to the reader. We can all use a little boost to change our way of thinking about ourselves and to become better versions to be able to move ahead in a positive way. This book is one way to start down that path.
All of you haters-of-self-help-books, I know who you are and I have the courage to tell you this - get off your high-horses! Do you think you are better than other people and don't have issues? we all have some!
Ok, so this book is intended to help you, for sure. And it does it in a non-intrusive-you-do-this-or-else way. I have met Billy through my work and had the pleasure to be coached by him to find my courage, my values, my mission in life. And yes, you should do too! It's a lot of fun.
Right now, my courage tells me to write a book and publish it. And so many other things, but I need to focus on one. So soon, my friends, I will be a Goodreads author! Watch this space.
This is a great book...that no one is talking about. It's not the social tour de force of Daring Greatly or spiritual like The Desire Map... but it's short, it's doable and it's fresh. There are activities to do, but they're straightforward so in a short amount of time, you will gain immense clarity. Good work, Billy.
Hmm, a lot of the ideas presented weren't necessarily new to me, but just rephrased differently. There's a lot of self reflective exercises in here to engage with, so it was practical in that sense.
I didn’t enjoy this book, although I’m not going to say it couldn’t be good for someone. If you like straight-talking motivation coupled with a lot of stories and case studies, this could be a book for you. I don’t like this format all that much and can’t actually remember what it was that prompted me to get this book so I can’t say whether I was misled or mis-judged what it would be all about. There aren’t a lot of references or additional resources, nor is there much discussion about why your comfort zone is actually killing you.
This is for people who need a jolt and can’t find one elsewhere. It’s an accessible book and will probably benefit some people who are stuck. For them, I hope this finds their way to their bookshelves. For me, it just wasn’t a fit.
A very practical approach to making changes in how one goes about day-to-day interactions with others and with one's internal monologue. Helpful exercises, role-playing (or script) suggestions, and links to his website for exercises and tools.
