Maggie Phillips is a hot mess. Her hands are scarred, her nerves are shot, and her business is a flop. Finding bodies is bad enough but she didn't expect the trauma to stick like a grease stain that won't give up the ghost.
After being voluntold by her mother-in-law to tackle a renovation, Maggie and company head to a money pit in upstate New York. The mission is clearly an intervention in disguise. The goal? Refinish the floors, fix her marriage, and-according to Laura-deal with that pesky ghost.
Maggie doesn't do spirits. Unless they're mixed in a tall glass.
The riverfront property holds more than a phantom in the fog though. Add a two-decade-old murder, a family tree festering with secrets, plus a husband she's been pushing away since the last time she stared down a killer. Maggie is in over her head.
In a house where the walls are crumbling faster than her sanity, she must decide what's more dangerous. A pissed-off apparition stalking the shoreline? Or the secrets someone is willing to kill to keep buried.
Third time's the charm. If she survives the renovation.

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Hart writes about characters that cuss, get naked, and often make poor but hilarious life choices. A native New Yorker, Jenn now lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her imaginary friends. Her works to date include the Cougars and Cauldrons series, the Silver Sisters series and the upcoming Legcay Witches of Shadow Cove.
After suffering serious burns to her hands in book 2, Swept Under the Rug, Maggie finds herself having a crisis of confidence and her marriage is suffering as a result. Desperately wanting to mend her marriage and find her confidence, she accepts a job exorcising a ghost from a haunted house her mother in law has just bought.
But it seems the ghost is the victim of a decades old unsolved murder and Maggie and her crew find themselves investigating.
All Washed Up is probably the weakest book in the series but it's also the most fun in my opinion. It reads like a cross between a Scooby Doo cartoon and a TV sitcom halloween special. I'm guessing Jennifer L. Hart intended it to be so based on her referencing Scooby Doo in the book.
The biggest weakness in the book is the ending which felt rushed. That said it's a light, fun read and worth the effort for fans of cozy mysteries.
This is so far my absolute favourite of the series. Funny, with a great mystery, the characters have a massive growth and details start to emerge about their past.
What this book doesn't have isn't worth having! Outstanding. I love this series, but I think I loved book three even better than the first two and only part of that was because Neil was in it more, but face it; if you are a Laundry Hag fan, you are probably a fan of Neil too. I loved that some of the issues that had been growing through the dangers Maggie faced in the first two books were addressed in All Washed Up and that the Maggie and Neil communicated better than they have in some time. No only to we see more of Neil in the story, he reveals more of himself to Maggie than he ever has. Awww. There are, as always a couple of real twists to the mystery and to the personal plot and the humor can't be beat.
This was a quick and campy fun book to read. The third in the Laundry Hag series, Maggie has been left permanently scarred from the events in the last book, which has taken a serious toll on her marriage. Add to that her brother's pregnant girlfriend is rapidly approaching her due date and Maggie's laundry business is, well, all washed up and things are a bit stressful in the Phillips' house!
So when Maggie's mother-in-law "hires" Maggie and her friend/new business partner Sylvia to go exorcise a rumored ghost in a new rental property Laura has acquired, Maggie sees that perhaps this would be a good chance for she and Neil to try to save their marriage.
As I said, the book was quick and campy as even Maggie had the mindset of "Ghosts? Yeah, okay." But once she, Neil, Sylvia and Maggie's BFF/Laura's assistant, Leo, get settled into the house, they quickly discover not all is as it seems and maybe there really is something to the ghostly rumors.
Unfortunately, I did not remember exactly how the last one ended (and was too lazy to look it up) so I would have appreciated a bit more of a reminder on that front. But all the elements of the first two books that make me really like these characters and find this series amusing were present making this the perfect escape during the double-whammy of a pandemic and wildfire induced hazardous air quality.
This is book 3 in The Misadventures of the Laundry Hag series by Hart and another great addition to this series. Maggie and Neil the best married couple I've ever read - they are so in tune with each other so this book broke my heart a little but in true I got your back style - these two come together perfectly yet again! Maggie and her bff's are out to save the world - or a haunted house in this laugh out loud mystery with spooks and twists. I loved every minute of it! I also love the narration - a perfect Maggie voice if I ever could have dreamed it...I'm off to listen to book 4 but am sad to know this series may be coming to an end - I love these characters so much now!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
Not my favourite but still a good read. I got this in a box set that doesn't appear to be available now. She's down in the dumps. Although cleared of all wrong doing her business has still not recovered and she has cut her CIA activities with the local police as they didn't lift a finger to help. So when her mother and father-in-law ask her to go and clear their new purchase of the ghost activities reported there they agree. Leaving the two boys with her brother and his new family they set off to the small community where the house is. Talk of ghosts abound as does the murder of the previous owner's daughter. When they start seeing and hearing things it all takes on a more sinister aspect. Will they be able to find out who what and why?
Recovering from her burns from her last life endangers adventure , Maggie is struggling with self issues and it’s straining their marriage. Tensions are high as Maggie, Neil and the gang head to a haunted house to clean and cleanse it to pieces. Like anything that involves the laundry hag, nothing every goes as planed. Murders and ghost and crazy people oh my lol. The small town isn’t ready for Maggie lol. I have to give props to the narrator, Her accents and emotions were on point for this novel! I adore this midlife book. It’s funny, it’s a mix of storylines and I can relate to some of the struggles. Maggie is perfectly imperfect and you can’t help but love her and her knack for finding her self deep off in it!
This time Maggie learns about a murder that happened in the past. She and Sylvia are hired by Maggie's mother-in-law to get rid of the ghost that haunts a house she has bought to flip. But Maggie asks to many questions and it looks like the murderer want to shut her up. I love the characters in this series and the trouble Maggie always finds herself in without even trying.
The Laundry Hag has a lot going on so her family and friends trick her so she takes a vacation. Some funny parts, an interesting mystery, but it kind of wraps up too fast and doesn’t quite seem so believable. Still a lot of fun!!
Kind of fun. Character development was a little slow at first. The story improved as it went along. The use of dialectic language was interesting A good read, entertainment .
This series is quite funny and unique. A woman takes up becoming the maid/laundry hag in order to help the police investigate some of her rich neighbors. However chaos usually follows her closely. In this installment her mother in law decided to buy a new house, and we all know that the maid is also a medium right?! I wish we had a few more details about the "ghost". It all seemed a little rushed at the end.
I have enjoyed the series and can't wait for more. I love murder, mystery and thriller of all kinds and these light hearted books are awesome. They keep me on the edge of my seat.
Funny, smart, well written and mysterious. If you want funny and witty along with your mystery especially if you are a Mother, you will love the main characters banter.
This was a BookBub recommendation, and the price was right. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it though. If you liked Stephanie Plum, you'll love these books.
(E) Definitely my least favorite of the 3 of these so far. The stuff with the ghosts was weird and I hate that Neil and Maggie can't just talk about what's bothering each of them.
