Roommates and best friends Harvey and Jim are obsessed with zombie movies. That is until videos start appearing online, claiming to be footage of real undead outbreaks. Can their knowledge of once fictional creatures help them against the real thing? They soon realize that the undead aren’t the only threat they face. With their supplies running low and armed raiders attacking everyone, they will need to take their survival plan to a new level. How much will they sacrifice to survive, and who … or what … will they become when it is all over?
This has just the right feel to how I want zombie books to start--everyday life mixed with a couple of characters that will make me laugh and enjoy seeing survive. I enjoyed the fresh feel to this story and a few twists along the way to make it one of the better zombie books I've read. It's getting harder and harder to find a zombie book that starts out in a way that reminds me of why I fell in love with zombie stories. I see military angles and dark, twisted society angles, and then I see those like this, where good people who deserve better somehow drew the long straw enough to get a head start on the apocalypse. My only drawback was from some more common plot points toward the end that lowered the overall grade. Decaying Humanity is still a solid addition to the zombie canon, and worth support so this author can produce some more. I don't know how he'll go on from here, or if it could even be a stand alone, but either way his career shows promise.
This book was fantastic! A great read for any zombie lover, but so much more. I don't want to give anything away, but there were fresh twists to the zombie apocalypse story told here, with great characters to root for!
I couldn't finish this. Ridiculous "twist" and I didn't care about the flat characters. Why in the world do authors not use contractions? NO ONE says "I will not," " I am, " "That is," etc. You're not being paid by the word; it's very distracting to read stilted dialog like that.
Liked the characters. Could have been a really great zombie short. But ending destroyed it for me...I really like zombie stories. But. This one needs soMe work.
This was a slightly different take on the genre. I started this awhile ago but got bored about a page or so in. I guess nothing jumped off those first few pages to reel me in. I never delete a book without reading it and I needed to make room for something else on my Kindle so I decided to try this one again. This time I couldn't put it down.
All I have to say (without including spoilers) is: -Jim has to be THEE suckiest best friend in the world. You won't know what I mean til you get to that part. Harvey wasn't upset, but I was upset for him. -There is no room for romance in a zombie apocalypse. -They have zero room to be self righteous about what Jaime and those teenage girls (or even the Capt in a small degree) did trying to survive. They were very hypocritical. In fact, they actually say that they were the only two that really mattered and they were selfish when it meant their own survival. (I say "they" to not give anything away about who makes it and who doesn't).
The ending was rather ridiculous. Well, I guess not ridiculous if you are a gamer or a fan of game based movies like Resident Evil or Doom (which I am) but I just don't expect to see it in books. Anything can happen in movies, but in my books I expect the rules to be followed. I guess I'm very, "my food must'nt touch" in that regard, lol.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm glad that I gave it another chance.
Jim and Harvey are gamers who live in a trailer park and longed for the zombie apocalypse to come along and cheer up their boring life. Now it is here, they realise that a trailer is not going to defend them against zombies or human bandits.
Jim and Harvey frankly are a couple of morons. Gamers I know are much smarter than these plonkers! Harvey believes the zombie videos shown online long before chaos hits their town so they stock up on supplies-but why try to keep living in a flimsy trailer??? They had days to get out of town with their supplies in their cars but instead Jim keeps going to work until all hell breaks loose and he barely escapes with his life.
After finding a raider inside their trailer, and knowing the guy is part of a raiding gang whose friends might come back for them, do the boys flee? Um, no. They instead use the man as an experiment to test out what does and doesn't attract a zombie for 'research' purposes. Oh yes, if the zombies are seeking brains, these boys are quite safe. This book seems to be more about the boys and their friendship than actual zombies. I felt it wasn't going anywhere interesting so stopped reading. Not much else to say really.
The second installment of the Decaying Humanity series that fills in the gaps of the first book. This is like a prequel to the first book and without spoiling it, it really makes you think about how events might occur in the event of a real zombie apocalypse.
The different characters and their stories are compelling and the descriptions and imagery are even better in this book. It's very clear the author has taken what he learned while writing the first book and injected it into this one.
I'm really impressed with how much he's grown as a writer and I can't wait for the next book. He's clearly invested in his story and has so much more to tell. His characters are strong, emotional and engaging and you truly want to know more about them as the book moves on. Please read and enjoy this book as I have!
I read a lot of zombie and post apocalyptic books on a regular basis and while they often have their own unique stories to tell few have the kind of twists that this one had! I totally loved the completely different, and very creative twists that the author used when telling this story. A great new take on the zombie genre that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a well told zombie tale!
It was a bit different than most of the zombie books I had rad to date. There were some parts of the story that kind of felt rushed or more like the author made up thing as he he continued writing. With that said it was still a good book. I will definitely read the second book in the series.
Though the ending was just a little too... Cliff hangery. A simple additional sentence would have made the book kinda awesome. It's definitely a unique take on zombies. I just don't like having to assume I knew these people well enough to know what choice they made.
What an awesome read. This is not your grandfathers zombie book.... But an inventive and fun twist on an genre loaded with inventive writing. But this book stands head and shoulders above most.... Treat yourself and read this book,
It started out in a way that was somewhat similar to all zombie stories. I like the way there were different types of zombies. The spreaders and thinkers were the best. I didn't like the ending. It left to much unanswered
A story about zombies and humanity. Sounds normal right but this book re writes the rules to liven up the zombie apocalypse. With jokes, love and Gore what could go wrong.
Well have to say im not sure what l thought of this book. It held my interest, even some of it was corny.but I would still recommended it. It's an easy read
