A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

This was a great read for getting prepped for our upcoming trip to UAE. Only downside is the copyright date of 2018 and Covid hitting. Quite a few of the things they recommended appear to be closed since Covid. But...not the authors fault that a global pandemic hit. I'm looking forward to taking some of the walks, checking out the sites and trying all the food. This is going to be a unique and exciting trip...can't wait!

This provided a wide variety of helpful information for planning a visit to Dubai or Abu Dhabi. I’d guess there’s a more up to date version, but this was what my library had, and I still found it useful.

Com mapa destacável de Dubai e abrangente relação dos principais pontos turísticos dessa cidade e de Abu Dhabi.

Out-of-date information, poor organization, and shockingly lousy maps. What a disappointment. Usually I am really happy with Lonely Planet books as they provide the type and style of information that is compatible with the way I travel. This one, though, completely missed the mark. We had a nice time in Dubai and did use the book as much as we could, but there were many things that would have gone more smoothly with a better guidebook.

Very subjective. Not very informative and too focused on where and how to get alcohol in the restaurant and accommodation section
instead of reviewing the aspects of the venue. Would have liked to know a little more about the meal voucher system as discussed on TripAdvisor in 5 star hotels. This was not mentioned in the guide.

Its difficult to see beyond the malls and the luxury of Dubai/AD and this really helps. Written in an informative, funny style, its the first of the Lonely Planets published under the BBC banner and new look branding that I've enjoyed and found useful. Highly recommend.

Very informative for both locations. I particularly appreciated the cultural insights and clearing up some misconceptions about women's roles and dress

basic guide
This is Lonely Planets typical guide book. Good background, adequate recommendations, and suggestions based on cost. Exactly what I expect from this publisher.
