When a chance meeting brings the two together, will they put aside their hurts and forgive each other?
Will the jealousies of outsiders force the two apart?
New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Piper Davenport writes from a place of passion and intrigue, combining elements of romance and suspense with strong modern-day heroes and heroines.
She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with her author husband, Jack Davenport, and an obnoxious YorkiePoo named Pepper who may or may not be an international spy.
Okay, so an asshole can be redeemed. I pretty much disliked Ace/Carter in the beginning. He treated Cassidy like shit when she dropped her little bomb even though if he'd manned up it could have been avoided. But when the two reconnect, he became that dirty-talking alpha I love and he only had eyes for Cassidy so I forgave him. I loved how he treated Maverick too.
I think Cassidy forgave him way too quick though. She should have made him work a little harder for it. I think she was a bit naive too. But she was a great mom and I know she truly loved Carter.
Normally I wouldn't have touched this second chance romance. It had a few of the reasons why I despise them i.e. She's celibate and he screws everything with two legs. But I'm glad I gave it a chance. He was actually a great hero.
Seriously, fuck no! I mean, he whores aroung and expects h to be 'faithfull' to him in all those years they are apart, like what the hell! Done with this shit! Also the reaction to her being with child was just unbelievable.
1. They were childhood friends she always loved him and so did he apparently but didn’t tell and because of some bullshit reason he made up ( the truth of the matter was he was screwing his way through all the willing high school girls before he would decide to enter a relationship with her because she was a virgin and all that- horny high school boy no matter how in love could not give up regular sex)
2.He leaves for the Air Force or whatever for a year but does not disclose his feelings for the h, and she is 17 and on her way to France for a year as well to attend dance school.
3. There are not in a romantic relationship, at this point none of them have declared anything but love borne out of friendship. He goes radio silent for 1 year and does not contact her. Before returning to the US after her year in France she finally decides to sleep with a french dancer dude. She returns home finds out she’s pregnant.
4. He returns home too and confesses his undying love for her lol and she tells him she got pregnant but the dad is not in the picture anymore.
5. Next day, he leaves and basically disappears forever from her life.
6. Several years later - we are told 7 but her kid is 5 so the author is clearly bad at math they sort of bump into each other at his club.
7. He yells at her like she is some trash that did him wrong!!! Boy you left the love of your life pregnant and alone - she slept with an guy once and shit happened, you slept with loads of girls and paraded them in front of her!!!!
8. He goes to brother, blames her for what she did to him looooooool.... he had no claim to her! He lost her cause he was ducking like the horny teen he was and would not commit, and after he was too stupid to be a man and ran instead.
9. Same day he goes back to her and tells her he loves and now they are back together —— after he saw her again in 7 years - it took him a few hours to profess undying love again.
10. He has a reputation for being unhinged, a man whore but the type that treats women like crap and uses them, a new one each night along with a more steady one kind of like an on call one. basically even his buddies from the MC think he’s a pig in that regard.
11. First meeting after 7 years he was playing tonsil war with a girl at the club while his hands roamed in her shirt and hers in his pants - that was how the h saw him again after all that time - then he proceeded to tell the tonsil girl that he will fuck her later but she needs to get lost for now.
12. A few hours later he was trying to get in the h’a pants and was offended when she stopped him also offended that his reputation reached her ears and totally forgot about Lisa - tonsil girl he almost f-ed few hours earlier.
That guy is a piece of sh*t

Another great addition to this series. Perfectly safe for me. I loved it. Once they see each other again, they are all about each other. There is a little om drama, but it's someone who wants the h, but the h is very faithful. Perfect read.
Nailed it! Yep, that was my first idle thought once I was not far into this story. I've read the first two books in the series and enjoyed them very much, but this one...there was a bit of something extra from the start. Boy next door blended with second chance romance really worked for me. I loved how the author achieved the distinct 'before and after' tones and the changes in the characters as maturity and life refined them. Before was the early scenes and after were those that began in the present. There were heart-felt emotions without devolve-ment into unnecessary angst. So yeah, this one felt solid and strong to me.
This is the third book in the Dogs of Fire MC series. This is one that someone might get away with getting out of order. The main characters are new introductions to the series and the storyline is new too. There are many mentions of the former MCs that already got their books as well as a few other recurring characters.
The story opens in the past as Cassidy prepares to go off to learn dance in Paris and her best friend and secret crush, Carter, is heading into the Air Force. Carter gives Cassidy no indication that he feels anything beyond friendship, but he loves Cass and plans to give her this year away to seek her dreams before he speaks of his feelings. Unfortunately, during that year apart, both make mistakes and they bitterly separate.
Carter had a tough time during his last tour of duty and suffers a bit from PTSD, but being with his club brothers including one of his actual brothers helps a little though he is known for being an angry, brooding man. It's hard for him to go home and be around family where his mother wants to smother him and some of the rest of the family aren't sure how to deal with his issues. Into the storm of his world walks Cassidy. They are both shocked to meet at a club party and his reaction is huge.
Cassidy never got over Carter turning away from her when she confessed to her huge mistake that left her pregnant, but now she has a beautiful son and they are getting by. She has lived quietly for years and now her friend Payton has invited her and little Maverick to get out and meet some people. Maybe she can move on with a nice guy like Payton's husband. Only the first guy to catch her attention is a large and frightening Carter who is less than pleased to encounter her or so she thinks.
Carter never knew what happened to Cass, but now that he's found her, he's not letting this second chance get away from him. He never stopped loving this beautiful woman and he knows they need to clear the air before anything else. She messed up, but then he did too. The have to get to know each other again and he wants all in with her son that he already considers his. The infuriating woman gets her back up when he gets possessive and she doesn't believe him because of it when he gets a bad vibe about one of her male co-workers.
Carter and Cassidy grew up together and already love each other so the foundation for this story has already been laid and the romance is essentially half-way developed. However, because of the big issue when Cassidy gets pregnant, its like the romance froze in time with them living separate lives until the moment they meet again. They both have changed and lived a lifetime apart in just a few years so there is also the sense of the new along with the familiar.
I think my favorite scene in the book was their reunion meeting. Holy snikies! That was hot and tense. But then there are string of adorable scenes as Carter inserts himself into Cass and Mav's lives. Cass is hesitant and would have pulled the handbrake constantly because she has such a load of guilt and bad thoughts about herself. Mav's birth dad messed her up when she was in a vulnerable moment and Carter's mom added to it by laying the blame on thick where Cass was concerned. Good on Carter that he's pretty intuitive and nips that junk in the bud. These two are good for each other having a nice balance between scorching hot, sweet and playful. Carter can get intense with his take charge alpha male behavior and Cass calls him on it just as he gets her out of her wrong-headed thoughts and makes sure she knows that he thinks she is the most beautiful woman and he makes sure she knows that he worships her body.
Scenes with Carter and Mav having father/son moments just brought out the oohs and ahs in me. I'm a sucker for that stuff. I also loved the gatherings with the other DoF families. I cracked up when Cass fell asleep on the boat and got that painful sunburn- been there, baby. Wasn't she lucky that Carter was there to rub in the aloe and kiss it better?
So, in the end, I thought this a fantastic story and a good strong installment in the series. These are engaging biker romances that lean toward the tamer end of the scale, but are spicy and passionate nonetheless.
My thanks to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This started good but went down hill pretty quickly. The H and h are life long friends but have feelings for each other. After a year separation where the H is in the Air Force and h is in Paris studying dance, the h decides to give her virginity to some other guy and immediately regrets it. This donkey was upset that even though they were going to see each other again after a year she didn't hear from him during the separation. But she can't forget her transgression bc she gets pregnant. This makes the H very upset and they don't see each other again for 4 yrs. But this disaster doesn't end there. The h names her child AFTER the H even though its not his. She keeps saying how she wishes the child was his. What kind of stupidity is that? The h was so incredibly immature. If she loved the H, she wouldn't have slept with someone so quickly. The H was furious when he sees the h again. But this also quickly changes bc soon the H is behaving overly sweet and joking around.
Very biker lite, just the way I like them. No MC group ho’s throughout the story (okay only 1 very minor incident with one of the girls at the beginning..tolerable), no grungy cringe worthy characters, no biker shootouts or illicit activity. There’s actually not much on the club itself which was okay with me, putting the emphasis on the relationship. This is probably the least biker like book I’ve ever read. This is a quick easy read with a fast re-connect early on for the main couple, childhood friends wanting more but separated as teenagers. Sassy heroine with a cute son (not overly cutesy) and a very pushy alpha H. Brief drama near the end that got resolved quickly. Hardcore biker fans probably won’t be drawn to this one, but I appreciate that there’s something for us who like our bikers a little less on the gritty side.
so, i love this author and her books! I got given an arc, like a whole month early (and i jump up and down and scream!)

Cassidy and Carter have known each other for a long time, been friends since she was young, then they go their separate ways.
Then 6 odd years later they meet up by chance...and well what happens next... you just have to read the book.
This series is not like your normal MC book. Well written, and it flowed nicely. My only complaint is that it should have been longer... LOL
Sweet second chance romance with quirky dialogues and a H who was absolutely crazy about the h. While it was an MC book the sordid elements weren't there so much.
3.75--- I didn't like what happened in Paris. Do I think he was clear that he wanted a relationship with her -NO. So she's been in Paris thinking they were just friends and not sure why the radio silence. She spoke to his brother why not say "hey Carter said he'd write me but he hasn't". I disagree with Paris because she waited until a month before her return to sleep with this guy. Why not sleep with him after a few months of no Carter? Idk I felt like if she really loved him she would have come home and faced him about the last 11 months of nothing. Was he celibate those 11 months? Then he drops her for being pregnant which I kind of understand. He should have questioned his wacko mom then. If he knew his mom didn't like her why did he not send the letters a different way. What I was confused about is his reaction when he sees her at the club. It had been several years since he left her pregnant. It seemed like he had been devasted without her and had been searching and couldn't find her. He was upset his brother knew where she was. I know if he wanted her he could have found her so I didn't get his caveman angry attitude. Plus he was trying to be all over her when he just f---ed a club whore the night before and planned to again later. I also dislike the kids in these situations. I can understand having a bbq with the families but to me when it's a drinking night why shove all the kids in one room with a movie. I felt bad for them. Maybe it's a really large room where they can also play games and etc. I guess they like to keep them all together for safety but it would get old if I were the kid. I hope I enjoy Mack's book.

I picked this up and could not put it down until I had devoured every word.
Carter/Ace turns from giant pushy slutty ass to one of the sweetest alpha male bikers who just wants the girl who got away.
Cassidy is a single mother whose one youthful moment changed her entire life and her dreams for the future.
Carter and Cassidy were inseparable best friends in their youth who were both hiding their true feelings from the other. When Carter goes away to the Air Force, Cassidy goes to France to study ballet. They promise to come home in a year and if no other person has stole their hearts they agree to get married. But as is true with hiding your true feelings from the one you love, if you are not honest the other person may misinterpret how you feel and make decisions which will derail all your best laid plans.
Carter becomes Ace in the Dogs of Fire Motorcycle Club and Cassidy runs away to be a responsible single mother for her child. When they meet again over 5 years later sparks fly and they are given a second chance to make is right. This was a really fun read.
really loved this. Carter is the he-man, super badass, macho alpha male from the word go. absolutely love his relationship with Maverick - what mum could ask for better? this book is all about second chances and he knew that he had to grab on hard with both hands, force the point and not let go to get back that which he had lost. Loved the "nut" and "bolt" inside joke and how far he took it by giving her the chain when she left for Paris. loved that she never took it off. Lily & Maverick are the mirror of Cassidy & Carter and their immediate kinship is beautiful. Mav's protectiveness of Lily shows the respect for women (and particularly his woman) he has learned watching Carter with his mum. Yes, everything happened at warp speed but that was exactly how this story needed to be told (last read 3/5/2015)
this is a very fave read ... short but well written with characters and story that i loved
Probably the most times a character (the H) has uttered F*ck! since Brad Pitt in the movie Seven. (And that was a book I thought was better than the screen version).
While this story was a very slight improvement over Book 2 in its h character, the MC itself still has very little development. It's more like some business conglomerate that holds cookouts now and then. All we know about the Prez is his name is Crow, his old lady's name is Susie, and they have a wild child daughter named Ashley. The storyline from Book 2 about the Russian mafia types wasn't really concluded, and was totally absent in this book.
Oh! MY! GWAD!!!! I LOVED LOVE LOVE this book! Piper just keeps getting better and better! and while I still love the other Dogs I LOVE Ace(as well!) This story was so amazing! fantastic! I LOVE how all the other characters are incorporated into this story! so much love! so much heart! I LOVEd Maverick! Booker was so wrong about the name! ;) (haha! lol!) He was such a great kid! and I loved how he connected with Lily! I have no doubt I will be rereading this story SO MANY TIMES!!! actually this series!!! and I can't wait to read about more brothers! (may they be Dogs or Quinns! :D)
5 Stars! This is by far the best book in this series, in my opinion. I absolutely adored Maverick, he definitely had me laughing to myself a couple of times in this book! I loved how he was with Hawk and Payton's daughter Lily and I cant wait for their story! I also loved how Ace and Cassidy were together and how after seeing each other for the first time in years that they knew they wanted to be together so there wasn't any other women drama or other stuff that kept them apart. Onto the next book!
When we're young, we don't communicate as well as we could. When we're young we make mistakes. What happens when you mistakes changes your whole life? You have no choice but to move on and that is what our soul mates did here - kinda! I wouldn't say Cassidy really moved on. But then the fates bring you together again.... That's this story. It's high on sweet and low on MC. It's about Ace (Carter) and his childhood best friend Cassidy with a little "Maverick" thrown in! I loved it!
Had potential, but got boring ... I have been enjoying this series, but this one was a letdown. It had an interesting premise: childhood best friends, secretly in love with each other, drift apart when the heroine gets knocked up by another guy. I was so excited for the angst and to see how Cassidy & Ace would overcome the past. But when they reunited, they got over it in like 10 milliseconds. It was so quick - I was left disappointed and bored.
I have read and reread this book for the last few days. I find it to be awesome. A great depiction of how to forgiveness and how to welcome a lost love back into the fold. Great job and i cant wait for the next book
I could not put this book down! I love Ace ( think he is my all time favorite ) the love that him and Cass have was unstoppable ! I live this series and can't wait for the next one.
ended up getting this book as an ARC and it is amazing! Ace and Cassidy are a great couple! Piper Davenport is truly an awesome writer! She is really awesome to her readers! this book is the 3rd in the series.. you should pick all of the books
This was a great read. This whole series has been a light fun read. While the couples experience some bumps in the road to their HEA's it is a sweet romance and just fun to read. rated very good
Ace & Cassidy were meant to be ever since they were 6 years old. When life takes them in different directions as teenagers and LIFE happens, nothing is ever the same again. Eight years later can they finally move beyond the past and move into a future together?
Damn! This was an awesome book! I am beginning to really love Piper Davenport, her Alpha males and the women they love who will not take their sh**!
Carter is a Air Force Veteran who suffers from PTSD, but has been able to move on with his life with the help of his brothers in the Dogs of Fire MC. The one thing that he, obviously, never moved on from was Cassidy. That was made clear when they first see each other again after 8 years. The same thing is clear for Cassidy. This is where the fun starts!
A lot of reviews were saying “Insta Love” for Cassidy & Carter, but I disagree because they have loved each other there whole lives...”insta forgiveness” from Cassidy...definitely, yes! Should she have? Definitely, Not! We women should make our men know that they need to fight for us, not just at the beginning of a relationship either...throughout it and let them know in our own way, that we are worth that fight! And Cassidy never did that...she even apologized for something she never did wrong, in my opinion...that was the only part of the book that I had a REAL problem with. But, I moved past it because of how enjoyable the book is. Their chemistry is undeniable and the fun they have in each other’s company is also a key element of this books success.
The laugh out loud moments come from Maverick, Cassidy's 6 year old son. Who is incredibly adorable and OMG the lines that come out of his mouth will have you laughing hysterically! Like when he jokingly tells his Mom and Carter he won't curse. "I won't, Mom. But just so you know, when I make Lily my Old Lady, I might say 'f**k’”. Holy crap, I died laughing and it was 2 am, so I woke my husband up! Lol
I still have a few issues, here and there, as you can see, with these books, but nothing that holds me back from purchasing the next one in the series to fully enjoy...which I do!
Road to Absolution is the third book in a series called Dogs of Fire MC by Piper Davenport. This is a series about hot bikers, alpha males and lots of hot action. I just recently found Piper Davenport and fell in love with her writing and books. This is a new series for me and I was quite excited to start reading these books. Dogs of Fire MC is not a 1% MC that means that they are mostly clean according to its members.
Cassidy and Carter were best friends from a young age. They always together until it was time for Cassidy to have a chance of dancing in France and Carter joined the military. When they finally came back together things had changed (thanks to outside sources) and when Carter heard about Cassidy’s adventure. He was gone! Cassidy struggled and moved on.Until they saw each other again. Carter was not about to let her go again. Interesting second chance love story with a twist. Throw in Cassidy’s boss and the twists keep coming.
I really liked the storyline and the writing. The stories are short and focused mostly on the couple, there are many mentions of the other MC members and their women. I thought at one point Carter (Ace) was too pushy, I do wish Cassidy had made Carter work harder to win her back, but I guess if you know what you want, why fight it. Road to Absolution by Piper Davenport was a fun read.
