This book is ideal for children 4+. It teaches them about fire engines and fire safety in a easy to follow and appealing way. The book contains colorful pictures on every page with an accompanying short parapgragh of text. The text is in a well spaced and easy to read font as are all the Topsy and Tim books.

One day on their way to school Topsy and Tim see a fire engine race past them with its siren sounding and blue lights flashing. They wonder where it is going and Topsy remarks that her friend Kerry's dad is a firefighter and that he might be on the engine.

Kerry's dad wasn't as it happens but the incident leads to Topsy and Tim speaking with Kerry and her dad and the latter invites them down to the open day at the fire station the following Saturday.

They excitedly go to the open day and find themselves being shown around and taking part in various exercises with the firemen and women. They are shown round the fire station and are invited to spot likely fire traps in a simulated situation; even their mummy joins them in helping to see some potential disasters.

They are told the importance of smoke detectors and before they go they are given a real treat, a present to take home ... and you will never guess what it was ....

A nice little story in the Ladybird learnabouts series.

Exactly as it says in the title. Topsy and Tim meet the firefighters and learn all about fire engines and firefighting. There's some useful safety tips at the back of the book.

I loved Topsy and Tim books when I was little and I have managed to source some for my little boy. We love reading them together and he has now started reading them to me!
