Robert John Unstead is probably the most popular historian in the English-speaking world. His history books for young readers have sold over 6 million copies. He has a remarkable talent for making history exciting and readable. To him, history is colour, romance and adventure, not a dry study of dates and reigns.
OK I know these are supposed to be kid books but they are awesome! Great pictures and just enough text to make you want to learn more. Perfect choices for a beginning history reader or to start an older reader out in a new area. Highly recommended
See Inside an Egyptian Town delves into the lives of those who lived in Akhetaten, a town situated on a Nile Waterway. With great detail, the author provides a look into the life of different classes, their homes, work and traditions.
I gave this book 4 stars because it provided a holistic view into what life would have been like at the time for Pharoahs, the working class and slaves. It describes the layout of the city, the types of homes they lived in and how they built them, and what they harvested to eat. We also learn about the different Egyptian gods, what the Pharoah did in his spare time, and the use of tombs. I liked the different illustrations that took on different perspectives, sometimes like blueprints of homes with the roof removed so we were looking straight down into it. Other images were like maps, and some pictures of real artifacts are also mixed throughout.
