I'm choosing not to rate this. This is probably CM's most extreme trauma book ever and I keep wondering why she keeps torturing her FMCs like this. The romance was nonexistent because the trauma took up most of the book. Watch your triggers. Honestly CM should take a break from writing and maybe recalibrate.
I didn’t hate this. The author really emphasized the TWs for this book, so I went into it prepared for a dark read. While the content was graphic, I can see how she tried to put the reader into Summer’s mindset. It’s easier to understand how broken she is when you’ve read the scenes of her SA so graphic, it turns your stomach. I sat through those painful chapters expecting a journey of healing and love afterwards…but I was so thoroughly underwhelmed. It definitely wasn’t worth sitting through the gratuitous violence I read for a solid chunk of this book.
I felt like nothing happened after the club saved Summer. Lots of reactions to her trauma, but not real action. The plot stalled, and it was a drag to read. Then to have the antagonists all go out in such underwhelming ways. Yes, the way Gabriel and Hanz died was gratifying, but it felt hollow because they were only in a position to die after making the dumbest choices. It felt lazy, like the author couldn’t be bothered to write something sensible.
My biggest disappointment though was how the surprise pregnancy was treated. Summer’s hesitation to terminate the pregnancy or give the baby up for adoption was wild to me. And the whole time, Anchor is in his head just hoping and praying that she doesn’t give up the baby…the living, breathing evidence of her trauma. But to frame it as Summer has “too good of a heart” to do anything other than keep the baby…as if a woman who went through what she did would somehow be less than for not wanting to keep the baby just made me sick.

I really question what this authors editor does. In the prologue it describes a situation that happened to book one’s main character and his father, but says it happened to book two’s main character and his father and was why he was being pressured to marry someone else.
It’s concerning to me when both an editor and author can’t remember what happened 2 books ago in a series.
For my thoughts on the book ready Danny Lea’s review, I very much agree with it.
Summer has been pushed to date a man she can't seem to drum up any interest in. When she catches him cheating she walks, has zero interest in pursuing anything more and that is when she meets Anchor.
Anchor is a player, he has zero interest in settling down until he meets Summer. He slows down his game for Summer and one misunderstanding has him making a colossal mistake he may not be able to come back from. Held hostage and abused Summer just wants to die but when Anchor finds her again he does everything he can to be her bright spot and help her heal.
This was almost too dark for me. I felt like the bulk of story is Summer kidnapped and while a huge point of the whole book it did not really get to develop Anchor I think. Would have liked a bit more self awareness and some of their initial romance.
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Couple: Anchor & Summer ❋❋❋❋❋ This book was just tragic all the way around. I was a bit bummed, I finally was liking one of her main female leads and then the poor girl got her life ripped away. I never could warm up to Anchor, nothing about him was hero like and the one situation he could have done something he went and did the worst thing possible. This really wasn't a romance read, but I'm glad she got whatever type of happiness she could in the end.
Anchor meets Summer after he swears he will never settle down., and demands her to leave her boyfriend.
There is a misunderstanding and then some bad stuff happens to Summer. I won't go into detail but heed the Author's warning if you are a person that triggers easy.
I will say a lot of stuff happens in this book but they do come together.
As much as I enjoy this author, I couldn’t finish this book. The sexual assaults were too much to get past for a romance book. I wish there was something less traumatic the author used as a plot device than being trafficked and violently assaulted for 19 months. After the FMC attempted to hang herself, I gave up.
I have been counting down the days for this book to see where the series takes us next. The author warned us this would be a dark book. She did not lie. Please make sure to review the trigger warnings. This is not a drill; this is for real. I do not have any triggers, and this was tough.
For me, this was not a book I was able to dive into and devour like I normally would. Anchor and Summer’s relationship was sunshine and rainbows that we knew was going to be destroyed in a major way. We were essentially waiting for the train wreck to happen. And then it happened, and the world was turned upside down. I needed to take a few breaks, wipe my tears, get my emotions in check and go back.
I truly thought there would be ZERO possibility of redeeming this character and yet he was. The redemption happened in a subtle way for me. I was raging hot at him and slowly my rage simmered and I bought their happily ever after.
PS I am still in a hate relationship with this Club after reading book #3, Trigger. This storyline seems to overlap with Trigger, so I expected more from these idiots considering how badly Trigger misread his situation and the club’s reaction. Seems they didn’t learn their lesson. I just wish Anchor would have asked for Dirty’s help immediately. Can’t wait for Tank’s book next!
I’ve been reading this MC series from the beginning this one was a little hard to read but I still liked it. Just be prepared what the FMC goes through is horrible I know Charlotte’s MC books are known for the FMC going through some horrible trauma mostly r***d but this one takes the cake out of this series. One thing that bugged me about reading I notice some other readers have pointed out in their reviews is when she tells the other characters drama with their ladies it’s a lot of detail. And I get it especially if you start in the middle of the series and don’t start from the beginning but I skipped like 3 pages cause it was every single detail that I felt like could have been shortened when introducing other characters of the MC and again but 4 pages when explaining the drama that unfolded in the other books. I will say this one couldn’t keep me hooked like the other ones did idk why it was but I found myself skimming over certain pages usually I finish her books in one read this one took me two days. Does have a happy ending I like how all her Mc books have that happily ever after ending
Felt rushed and like she was trying too hard. The part where she was assaulted and he misjudged the situation ( reminded me of one of her other book), it felt like the book was written around what happened to her and not their story. Only 4 chapters to read about their insta love and then she get sold by her mother. It felt rushed because the beginning of their story was done in 4 chapter and then it was all about the traumatic experience she had, it was disappointing. You don’t really learn anything about them and their parents history it’s just thrown at us… The editing was bad as usual… I don’t know, I would’ve loved to wait a bit more and to have a story a bit more developed! Still enjoyed reading about this MC and the others
This one was hard to get through. I knew from the trigger warnings what it would have in it. It's different actually reading the story. My heart broke for FMC and for MMC. Make sure you are in a good head space before you read this book. Overall I like this book. The connection between FMC and MMC was there and you could feel it. I do think that the villian didnt suffer enough in the end. He deserved more, lots more. I like how the author didnt glaze over either of their trauma. FMC didnt get an easy fix and automatically be cured when the MMC said he loved her. It took work to get her back to a good head space. It real and raw. Sometimes authors go for the quick easy fix instead of real.
Graphic, pure black trauma with unrealistic expectations, extremely detailed torment and almost ZERO romance. Abusive dark book? Hell yes. Romance? Hell no. It was basically a book about torture to the FMC. I'm pretty shocked this has so many positive reviews under a romance category.
I'm NOT saying readers can't enjoy dark books. I even get that not everyone has the same triggers. I'm saying I thought it was a poorly edited, underdeveloped, rushed, horrifically graphic book about torture for pretty much the entire book with a tiny bit of romance thrown in. I couldn't even read every page without cringing or feeling nauseous and skimmed a lot. The overly excessive detail about the previous three books as well felt lazy.
For someone that can read a book and not have to worry about triggers, this book was even hard for me to read. It’s was extremely dark and graphic, which I’ve read books like this before but with all the trauma Summer went through, her recovery should’ve been so much different. Also, I don’t feel like there was enough focus on the characters relationship nor Summer’s recovery. They just kind of got together at the end and that’s all. There were also quite a few grammatical errors that could’ve been easily fixed if caught during edits. Charlotte McGinlay is one of my favorite MC romance authors but this book just did not hit the mark.
This was emotional. Oh boy will you cry! Our FMC Summer goes thru something so horrible. It will break your heart. Her fight after will have your rooting for her but also crying for her. The story is about overcoming something traumatic and finding yourself again. Letting yourself be loved. But it shows the strength of our FMC. Best one so far. I loved the MMC too. But he was really dumb in the beginning. He just reacted without thinking and that cost him! So much heartache. When will these men learn??! Is Tank next??!
Even though Anchor messed up and Summer paid a terrible price, he was easier for me to forgive because the second he realized the gravity of things, he set to making it right, never backing down from being her own personal anchor. Summer stole my heart. I wanted to weep for her, but she was so strong. The trauma is not to be taken lightly in their story. It's on page, and it's gut-wrenching. Seeing the brotherhood come together in this one touched my heart, when they'd failed the other women in the past. Guardian (Willie) was awesome!
I don't like mentioning it, but there were many errors. The previous books in this series had them too, but this one got to be tiresome.
Cheating = H mistake a situation he sees the h in so to get revenge he sets it up for the h to walk in on him with a CW bent over his desk.
h sees H with OW = see above
SA/R = as h runs out from seeing above she goes to her POS egg donor who sells her into sex trafficking. h is SA/R for 18 months on the daily...truly awful and gritty, be aware of trigger warnings as they are very sad/de-humanizing/brutal scenes.
MC = it's there
Grovel = I mean there was grovel, but it is so overshadowed by the h's trauma

this story is so real it hurts. the real life feelings and situations bleed onto the pages. Anchor didn't want love an old lady was not in sights but when he sees her that all changes. her father made it seem like love was not a good idea but he won't take no for an answer. when he reads a situation completely wrong they both pay for it but her more then him. when he finally saves her they have a long road ahead to forgiveness but he promises to stay by her and help her through it all.
I loved this book as much as I have every other book by this author, even though it's definitely the darkest by far. There is on page depictions of s*xual assault throughout the book, and a human trafficking subplot that carries over from the previous Rebels books, so definitely read the TWs and take care of yourself.
This story completely broke me. Ugly tears, an entire box of tissues, and a very concerned hubby wondering what the heck was wrong. Then, miraculously, as Summer healed, I felt I did as well. I have never read a McGinlay book I didn’t love but this one is, by far, my new favorite and a definite re-read when I need a good cry.
This book really was full of everything that makes a great story. Lots of suspense and drama filled the pages. At times, it was hard to read because of what the heroine had to endure. Love and survival do win out for a HEA. I highly anticipate the next book in the series.
OMG, to start with I love this series. I love all the books but this book was the most emotional book I have read in the series. It had me from the start. I cried. I smiled. I did everything with this book. And I couldn’t put this book down I needed it to finish it and even when I got to the end, I wanted more. cannot wait for the next book.
Be warned! Rape descriptions, sexual sadism on victim, descriptions of sexual abuse with knives, needles on a stick, metal pole. Also forced abortion description X3 (babies “kicked”out of heroine) and attempted suicide. Definitely not for most and is extremely dark in places. Not my favorite of her books.
This is a book not for everyone. It was a difficult read. The cruelty that Summer went through and all the abducted is a real thing but still hard to accept. Especially realizing that people could be so evil. But the human trafficking is a real issue. When the evil is punished, I can actually say I was relieved.
Same author, same title, different book. That's not at all confusing.
Intriguing storyline. Very repetitive. I feel like I would like it a lot more if someone else wrote it. I feel bad writing that because I genuinely like the author's concepts. I go into every book thinking maybe THIS is the one. And it's not and I'm disappointed.
Such a great read. Please beware of the trigger warnings before reading this book. I thought Trigger’s book was gonna be hard, but Anchor’s definitely takes that spot. I was crying along with Summer and Anchor. Very well done. Can’t wait for Tank’s.
I absolutely LOVED this story!! You fall for Anchor and Summer right from the first chapter You get to feel all of the angst, anger and heartbreak that Anchor and Summer go through as the story goes on. Your definitely going to need tissues for this one! 5/5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow!!! This was rough, brutal and heart breaking. I thought trigger was going to be the hardest hit this one was buy far tougher!! I loved it! I'm so glad they held on to each other and loved so fiercely.
I absolutely loved this story. It was heartbreaking and some sections require a box of tissues. I know that there are many triggers listed for Anchor's story but it was a wonderful story with great characters.
Love this book and it's series and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read about MC life and their families and friends 🧡 and Charlotte McGinlay is an awesome writer ❤️
