Perfect book!Awesome chemistry, emotion! The hero Josh was so sweet and caring towards the heroine. She confounded him, made him forget his place, which was bad since he was a spy. He tries to be there for her because she was betrayed by her fiancee and boss and he saw her withdrawing from life. He just couldn't stay away from her and wanted her, even when she wasn't sure about him, he was a born flirt and women loved him. I loved seeing him work to get her. And that moment when he realizes she is a virgin and he is trying to be all noble, the heroine turns the tables on him. She goes all out to entice him, open him up. I truly loved this book.

The virginal h who was so afraid of H's inability to love and marry that she falls in love with a con man/traitor. Even after that experience she continues to look for stability and security over love and passion. After a lot of convoluted plot with holes bigger than the plots, the H is now shying away from taking the virginity as he is scared of commitment. Weirdly enough H reminds me of Lucifer from the netflix series by the name. He is only vulnerable to h and turns clumsy around her. Unfortunately, Lucifer in Netflix with his eye makeup and constant flirting and his unsexy british accent makes me think of him as gay rather than irresistible.

Honestly was surprised by how much I liked this. The back and forth did get a little old for me, as well as Amanda’s slut shaming 😐 and I feel like they had sooo much potential for tension during undercover operations or high risk situations but it was just kinda teased and never really delivered— 95% of the book was them in the same apartment talking through whether they should have sex. But I did love Josh and the idea behind this, and the friends to lovers (for once lol).

Good plot but. . .

. . .overwhelmed by angst from the characters. Do people really act and think that way? Bottom line is you end up skipping over pages of dialogue.

This book is actually book 3 of a an unnamed series by Sally Tyler Hayes. Before discovering that there were related books, I read Book 4, Her Secret Guardian, and loved it.

Despite the somewhat pedestrian title, this book is actually quite good. Hayes brings the hero, Josh, to life through dialog and narrative in vivid detail. He reminds me very much of Tom Cruise in Top Gun... a man who is flirtatious and fun-loving, with a smile that could stop traffic. Through excellent foreshadowing, we do get a hint that there is more to the man, that the lightheartedness is his defense against personal pain.

The heroine, Amanda, is a bit more of a contradiction... Old-fashioned values and self-recrimination whenever she behaves in an assertive manner, her dialog is far more mature and sophisticated that is stereotypically used to portray a 24-year-old virgin. In many ways, it is actually much more credible and realistic.

Josh's motives for establishing a relationship with Amanda are also contradictory... he hopes to pull her out of what he perceives to be a deepening depression while at the same time, please himself by engaging her in a brief affair.

Until he discovers she is a virgin... and suddenly their attitudes toward one another are reversed, with Amanda wanting a relationship with Josh and him refusing to get involved with her. What changes his mind? Compassion. They are in a situation where her first experience could be wonderful or could be a nightmare. And Josh has to decide which it will be.

This is a wonderful story, very well-written with some unexpected plot twists and secondary characters who take center stage in the other 3 books in this series.

lets forget those little mistakes the author made with spelling, add action and romance with Amanda and Josh, and this was a hit, 4 stars
